Great video Kat! I love MCM and have pieces my parents purchased in Germany in the early 50s. Anyone that’s interested is getting to know more about mid century modern should read about Frank Lloyd Wright who was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years.
Not all FLW is modern, just as a side. His work started in the Sullivan style - he worked for Louis Sullivan in Chicago. Most of his work in Oak Park is Craftsman & Prairie. It wasn’t until later in his career that his style moved into Modern. He actually hated the idea of transforming his style. He entered a modern design competition and basically said “I’ll show you!” - and designed Fallingwater. (Done dorking out, 🤣)
So I worked at a University cleaning the Art Dept. for 8 years. I've seen good art and bad art. Some of our professors are quite accomplished in what they do. Now I'm not an art critic by any stretch of the imagination but, (I'm hoping I don't hurt any feelings), I just can't see it with the Betty Woodman piece. Almost $2,000 on that piece...how? It has never been more evident to me that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
We had the mint green toilet and matching sink & tub in our last house. The bathroom had this horrendous pinkish purple tile lined with a black half tile. I hated it, but this was 15 or so years ago. If I saw that today I think I would appreciate the beauty.
Oh my gosh, I've watched so many videos, and yours are very helpful and knowledgeable. I've subscribed to your channel. Thank you so much! I also like your eyes.
Really enjoyed your video Kat. Love how you did one decor style! My favorite😀😁 Great stuff... always on the lookout but now I have more to look out for😆
Maija Grotell was from Finland. She is coined as “The Mother of American Ceramics”. In 1938 she took the position as Head of the ceramics program at Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Pretty impressive and progressive to hire a woman as head of department in that era! This is a highly acclaimed academy where the likes of Knoll and Saarinen studied.
I’ve been binging all nite! More fun then sleep i love ur research videos!❣️I’ve watched a few before but now I’m hooked. Can’t wait to hit the thrift stores today. Of course after a nap. Thanks so much!
I really appreciate all these informational videos. I am learning so much as they are so eye-opening to what’s out there. Personally mid-century modern is not my cup of tea but I could definitely love it enough to sell some! Now I know some things to look for!
Kat, I loved this video. it is right up my alley. I’m a mid century aged woman and I am going to be keeping my eye out for some of these big artists and makers . thank you so much! My mother was actually right there in the mid century time and we had so many of these Pyrex bowls. Darn it I wish I had them. My mother-in-law had 2 HUGE chalk ware lamps at either end of this gigantic long couch she had… I wish I had those as well. it’s funny how you just never know what’s gonna all the rage.
Watching your videos gave me the courage to start sourcing lamps and large artwork. Haven't Tried furniture yet. I loved this video. Brought back memories of growing up mid century.
I am so glad the Homescool Picker says to check you out I'm thinking about selling again I'm a nurse also and back in the late 90s and early 2000s Ebay didnt charge much so I made a fortune on the auctions just doing it part time but it got so expensive and the market got so saturated nut I'm thinking about trying again and you girls are pumping me up lol
Auctions now for me are not the way to go it's way different than it was unless you have super popular items or in demand most people want to buy now and get stuff asap
I liked this research video a lot. I have watched all of yours and I agree that it can get repetitive seeing 25 teacups...this had a mix of items and was interesting to see that some of the items that were obviously tagged MCM to make it into your video, were actually late 20th century items and not "mid century" but had that vibe. The Starburst wall art comes to mind that was dated in the 1980's. Helps me to be not so strict with myself and to use the MCM keywords so you get the buyer who is searching for the look, not just collector's looking for authentic 1959's 1960's stuff. Thanks as usual Kat! Great info!
I'd love to see some research on American made items. Vintage, antique, mid-century anything. Glassware, depression, eapg, China different patterns, pottery pieces. Just any kind of older USA made items. Thank you very much for all the time you put in doing your research videos. There is so much out there and so much to learn.
I always find your videos amazing and so informative. I'll have to see if there's a way I can send you a pic to find it's value. (I haven't read your bio yet). Keep up the good work and I love it when your son speaks, you always hesitate, answer him and get right back to it!!! Thx again!
Love these research videos, Kat and thank you thank you for doing them! Congrats on your win in the Thrift Battle. Your last piece was over the moon gorgeous! Looking forward to the battle between you and George ☺️
Hi Kat! I must warn against shipping anything you care about via Greyhound. Maybe this is pandemic specific, but I shipped 2 Bachelor chests/night stands in summer of 2020 and one of them made it, and the other one was lost in the abyss for about 4 weeks. Apparently it went unscanned which was not uncommon and sat in the back of a freight room at some bus terminal until I filed a claim.
Of all the categories I find this one to be the most challenging to assess value since most of it is somewhat bland and hard for me to determine demand. If I ever did see any of this stuff, I might not recognize it as being worth picking up!
We always remember and want to learn about things we are interested in or have a passion for. I can pick this stuff out a mile away. I have never been so into a style or era as Mid Century.though and it excites me so much! I retain everything really fast because I’m in love. ;)
Great info. There is so much to learn . It's eye-opening to see how much disposable income some people have. I guess many of these things could be considered investments.
Like you pointed out, there is a lot of speculation on some of these listings and still people are willing to give big bucks for these items. I had always felt icky selling items proclaiming something I am not sure about and here these people do it and are make huge sales.
@ Kat lmao I have my 🎧 on while working & when I heard the rain on your roof I looked out the window lol and was so confused because it’s raining her but I don’t have a tin roof so I was like how is it only raining like this but sounds like this lol then my common sense returned lol 😂
Another great research video Kat!!👏 It is amazing these items sell for so much. I have a teal 3 piece bathroom set with starburst Formica countertops. I love it, but will be very careful if we ever remodel🤣🤣🤣 Love every minute of these, thank you ❤️❤️
I really enjoy your research videos. Could you make one about holiday decor/ornaments and not just Christmas but Easter, Valentines Day, St Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, Halloween and Thanksgiving?
Hi Kat I have to say as an experienced reseller of vintage and current items and their values for over 30 years I have learned a few things from you! I’m very impressed by your RUclips channel keep up the good work and educating all on the value of really sustainable and reusable items! you need to work on your clothing values though 😏 Just saying

Got so much of my Grandmas... mom all the way. Thanks
There are movie/tv studios who want matching fixtures and will pay well for shipping also... Coral pink? How sweet...
Thanks Kat! I loved listening to the rain hitting your roof! I love that sound 😍
Glad you liked it!!
Love those atomic dinnerware sets & MCM sculptures!
Me too!

I'd probably drive the dish sets to where they're supposed to be dropped off. That way I know they'd get there in one piece.
LOL I have driven one thing ever, I would again, but nothing over 12 hours

Yeah can be hard for sure
It’s definitely a minimalist style. Something I am not!
@@constancerobinson1377 it really doesn’t have to be. It’s the style I’m obsessed with decorating with and I’m definitely not a minimalist! Lol
