I finally got mine, and I was super-hyped about this camera... and to me, so far MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT! Out of the box, the resolution is great, but the picture looked AWFUL. Despite the software having tons of controls, I could not get nice colors from it. My nearly black shirt was like a bright blue, and making tons of adjustments, I could not fix it. The skin tones seem to range from very warm to very blue, Even the white balance just gave weird results. But the other issues included the fact tat despite the coiled cord, it is WAY too short. I had to re-arrange my setup, just to plug it in. And when I did... it kept disconnecting randomly (it did this on my Mac Studio, and on my MacBook). When I tried to use it with other software, like Screenflow, it would only work occasionally, and kept disconnecting. The Composer software is VERY buggy. It crashed numerous times, and sometimes the controls didn't seem to do anything at all. When it did crash, when I opened it back up, even though the settings I had done where still there, the image looked totally different, and I had to mess with the controls, but I still could not get an image that looked natural, or even nice. As for comparison, shooting the same scene with the C92 was CLEARLY lower resolution, and didn't have the same fidelity, but the colors looked normal, so I would chose it over the Opal right now. I see the potential, but so far, I am HATING this purchase decision.
@@PatrickRambles simple, it's overpriced. Would you have paid your own money for it (also considering you couldn't use it as a tax write off)? Try to look at the value from the perspective of your typical audience member who doesn't have these benefits.
I saw this camera a few years ago, I think. And they said they were still ironing out the details and features. Sounds like they are still stuck in a loop. 🤣
great video! maybe it was my screen but the video didnt really look too good. I've tried continuity camera on mac/iphone and it really blows this C1 out of the water. decent looking product though!
@PatrickRambles I appreciate it. I did just realize it only supports Mac so had to pull back but dang, I sure wanted it. I ended up with the Lunina as my choice.
@@PatrickRambles I like how the webcam looks, I was saying I am not that good looking to be in 4K. People don’t want to see that much detail of my face. Just joking of course. It is a great cam. There is more than just meetings a person could do with it.
Can someone please explain why would you need to have a 4K webcam for online meeting? Most meetings are done with video off, or just relegated to the side as a thumbnail as you are probably doing screen sharing. So what’s the point of high res video? Even in a one-to-one video call, why would you need 4K? It’s consumes too much bandwidth and power. Now if you are doing some live shows via webcam, than you may have a reason, otherwise don’t see the point in spending extra money when your built-in camera can do the job.
It’s just a cool product for people who have meetings with video on. It’s neat, there doesn’t have to be a need for it but I could definitely see how some of it’s features could come in handy, I felt like that was explained pretty well.
@@WHALEx3 I have nothing against this particular camera, it does have good features like the noise cancellation etc, and those are indeed useful. It’s just that it seem every tech RUclipsr complains how their webcam sucks because it’s not 4K, yet never give a compelling reason as why you need one. Sure it’s nice to have but any other reasons?
@@sreedharanbaskaradass9896 Fine. Some people want the people who see them to have a clear view. It’s easier to connect with someone when you can see them clearly. At the end of the day it’s just another product, the people who want it will buy it because it’s cool, things don’t need a reason to exist.
Most conferencing apps ate capped at 1080, that's correct. I never had an online meeting where video was turned off, might as well pick up the phone then. The appeal of 4K comes in when streaming or doing video podcasts. Yes that takes up some bandwidth but a lot of us have at least 1Gb internet these days so that should not be a problem at all. Having a camera that literally fits in your pocket, that can do all the things above is where the appeal is imo.
Your meetings might be video off - but there’s many different companies out there. All of my meetings are with 4-6 others, video on, and no screen share. On top of the I need to record weekly demos and being able to have a webcam shot of myself with more clarity is worthwhile. It’s not fair to limit yourself to you’re own situation, the product might not be for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless
Thanks for the review Patrick. That camera has some nice features but it's too spendy for my budget. As it happens, I have the Logitech C920x and it meets all my telecommuting needs at a fraction of the Opal C1's cost.
It's apples and oranges. This one is a hybrid, much more versatile and it offers a very decent action cam experience when in the pod. But the One R(S) is a proper action camera, so it will do certain things better.
Great video Patrick, this looks awesome. I love al the features. I was considering the INsta 360 webcam, however this looks appealing. Which one would you prefer?
Love the aesthetic as well as software options! I am close to changing from Windows (Dell) to Mac so will keep this on my watch list. The Insta360 web cam is similar price. I’m going there now to compare features, but it does NOT look as nice (aesthetically) … Thanks for the review!
I'd say they're both up there with some specific features attributed to them. I'd say Insta's major feat is the gimbal head that actually tracks you, rather than a crop and pan kind of deal. But the Opal is easier to take with you (Insta is super fragile because of the head). I'd confidently recommend either one.
Warning : some future software options need a subscription. Yes, a webcam with a subscription model.

Same
Nice product, but I’m worried about the size of the sensor. Half an inch seems ok, but I doubt it could fit both of your chad arms in frame.
LOL
Only Patrick can make me watch a webcam video all the way through
😂
Same here. But the loop function makes it absolutely worth it
Haha such a hack 😂
At $250, those influencers getting it for free can keep them.
Your point?

Looks great. Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra Has a bigger sensor
Yes! Unboxing is key! A good box makes me feel better about the purchase!!!

so no initial plans for the C1 to be supported on Windows?
Great review Patrick! I’m gonna snag one!
Hope you enjoy it!
Another great video, Patrick - thanks! I've been interested in the Opal C1 for a while now, and seeing such a thorough review on it is great.
Appreciated 🙏🏻

Hey thanks for the rundown. I think I'll buy this baby!
It's really good 👌 this and the insta360 are running the Webcam game right now.

Looks good but shame it’s only for the Mac
Agreed.
Do you know if you can film directly to capture in Final Cut Pro with the C1?
Is that an orange Benchmade Blackout? Great webcam, only if I was a little better looking. 😂🤣🤣 Thanks for the review. 🙏👍
Sure is! How funny Steve that you don't like the way it looks. I love it! Taste is so personal haha.

LOOOOL Steve you crack me up! I had to read that again 😂. I thought you said if only "it" was better looking.
I don’t have a Mac but can I adjust the settings with my iPad and then connect it to my pc? 🤷♂️

Nope.

Yep, definitely not a cheap one.

Want it just because of the loop 😂
Haha killer feat 😂
I bought @Lumina 4K and couldn't be happier. The Opal looks pretty amazing, too.
Looks good, but WAY too expensive. I'll stick with my C920 for now.

That's a tough one. They both have their pros and cons but both are stellar webcams. I'd feel super comfortable recommending either.

Save your money or buy more ram. Use your iPhone as your web cam with continuity on your new Mac.

Thanks!

Now that’s a good looking webcam, I need this
Pretty impressive webcam honestly. But I bounce between Mac and Windows. So no sale for me.
would love it if I could use it on a #Linux machine. I've left the Big 2
I won’t invest into this. I don’t need it! Everything is back to normal now!
Or is it 👀
@Joe the operative word being “now” and my perspective is that the new normal will always include some virtual/online meetings, interviews, etc. 😊
