- Hello again from The Pottery Corner my studio near Chichester on the South Coast of England for another kiln opening glaze firing. I have finally learnt how to edit a video so am now able to stop the GoPro from cutting me off in mid sentence - who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! This firing contains some pieces which I have re-glaze fired having had a disappointing first glaze fire. I explain how to reglaze you work - what have you got to lose if you were unhappy with the results right? There are also the last of Jo’s platters in this kiln. Those of you who following my channel will know that we lost a most talented student a couple of weeks ago. Karen and I have glazed her pieces in her favourite glaze colour - purple - so Smokey Merlot and Mulberry have been used in combination on her pieces. I hope this will inspire you to try something new on your own work. Check out my Top Tip Tuesday videos for tips on clay related processes. If you wish to see items for sale from the studio head over to my website at www.thepotterycorner.co.uk to view items in the online shop. Course information is also available together with kiln services. Hope you have a chance to take a look. Do like and subscribe to see more from the studio. Cheers Sarah
I love the way that you are continuing the fallen one's work, allowing her to live on.
Thank you Tony. It's been difficult.
Hi Sarah,
I'd love a 'top tip Tuesday' technique video on your heart shaped handles, as you have on your lovely, large bowl.
Thanks, Jessica from Pacifica, California
Hi Jessica - okay, I'll put that on the list to do. Thanks for watching again 🙂
Are you monitized already by you tube? No commercials yet, it is nice no disruptions. I am a follower.
Hi and thanks for watching. No commercials yet thanks for following.
As always, fun and beautiful video! Thank you :)
Thanks for watching 😀
great tips! love you for posting this up and discussing.
Thanks for watching Sandy. So glad you found it helpful 😊
found your openings recently and have really been enjoying them here from Washington State, USA
Hello and welcome and thanks for watching. See my Top Tip Tuesday videos in addition for all things clay related. Great to have you aboard 😀
SO very thankful for your tips on re-glazing...question: Did I miss this-- on the heart bowl did you re-glaze on the outside? or only the inside? or did you get that beauty from the original coating of glaze? and you cracked me up because about the time I thought about taking a hair dryer to the hairspray you nailed me! LOL Continued prayers concerning Jo's absence, but feeling so happy for those getting those pieces---to have something from her! Sending happy warm virus free hugs!
Hiya. Heart bowl only reglazed on the inside. However the outside glaze has 'crawled further from the refiring. You have nothing to lose by reglazing disappointing results. Most of my May off glazes give disappointing results for some reason so I do reglaze with Amaco over the top.
@@thepotterycorner I will be headed to the Shack Saturday evening and Sunday----gonna get a Re-Glaze Session going! Thank you for the tips!
Watching your kiln opening as I wait for my reglazed firing to cool...which I meant to have a 10 minute hold and accidentally did a 10 hour hold that I noticed after 3 hours of holding ;'O
Oh my! That'll be interesting- ouch. You may get some unique pieces - hope your kiln shelves survive
Another grand viewing from our sunroom @ 9:22pm.
Lovely! That sounds blissful. Grey and miserable here!
Why dig you use hairspray? I nerver hearing before. Thank you for good videos!!
Hi Helena. Thanks for watching and commenting. The hairspray helps the glaze you are applying to an already glazed piece adhere. Don't use too much. Hope that helps 🙏
I was very interested in the piece that you put frit in to cover the crack. Do you have a video of how you did that or would you be so kind as to tell me how that's done? I'm just getting ready to refire some pieces and one has some cracks in it. Thank you! I love your videos!!!
Hi Britt and thanks for watching. Great to have you along. I don't have a video on that unfortunately. I was a glass artist originally so I tend to try and fix things with frit! Sometimes it works and sometimes not. 🤷. I feel I haven't lost anything by trying though. Make sure you only use one type of glass due to different coefficients. Hope that helps 😀
@@thepotterycorner Thanks for your quick reply. I think I was just wondering at what temperature you were firing the pieces with glass. I am also doing fused glass so would definitely like to incorporate it into my pottery. I usually use Cone 5 clay.
@@brittgastreich4065 - my usual glaze firing is 1225 degrees centigrade so a cone 6. Cone 5 would be better! 😄
@@thepotterycorner Super! Thank you! I will give it a try.
Q: how many layers can you put on when re-glazing?
Thanks for watching. I tend to only put two extra layers on otherwise it gets a very thick coat! Watch out for drippy glazes too. Hope that helps 🙏
Are your classes starting back up now ?
Hi Laurie and thanks for watching. My classes are full for some time hence and I have closed my wait list for now. I've got some exhibition work to do and then it's summer. I'm hoping there may be space in the autumn but nothing at present 😌
