      Thanks for this. Indigo float was in my first group of glazes test tiles so haven’t one of that combo. Only with white and oatmeal.

    Thank you for posting these tests. As I have said before I am at a similar stage in the journey of discovery albeit you are in front. Independently I have done similar experiments but with fewer combinations. Keep up the good work.

    I am learning so much watching your videos as i am in the process of first time test tile glazing. What do you use to write the glaze info on the bottoms? I have an underglaze pencil but it’s not easy to write on bisque so that it is legible. Thanks!

    • @LoisHook
      @LoisHook  3 года назад +3

      I put underglaze in one of the little bottles that has a needle end and write using that. I add a little water as the underglaze is too thick. And I just write.

  • @lottaearth
    @lottaearth 3 года назад +1

    Thanks for your videos! I used your test tile method and i love the efficiency of your style. Now to put my pictures and note cards into an accessible format.
    1.) what do you use as you flip through on your tablet?
    Writing the glaze numbers on the bottom of each tile-
    2.) I used underglaze pencil but it’s not easy to make it legible nor is there enough space for all the details. You mentioned you use a needle on a rubber squeeze bulb- how does it not stick to the cookie?
    Thanks!!!

    • @LoisHook
      @LoisHook  3 года назад +2

      So I’m using a slip trailer bottle. I have a needle that is thin enough to let slightly watered down underglaze through and I gave nice writing to that’s what I do. It doesn’t stick as underglaze.

      So I have a book I write everything in. Every piece has a number. Every piece has an entry in the book. A little diagram and then the glazes I use. I take a pic of the piece glazed with the pots in the picture. The base glaze on the bottom. Next glaze jar on top etc etc.
      Then pics and video of each piece. It’s getting harder now that I’m producing more. I also keep pieces that I like and will repeat so I have a pot to inspire me and if course everything is videoed.

      @@LoisHook thanks. Do you use a photo app? To move the order of pictures doesn't seem possible on a mac. I want the before and the after pic together as I scroll. Just thought I'd ask.

    Can you tell me what you used for the white bowl in your kiln with the blue half way down?

    • @LoisHook
      @LoisHook  3 года назад +1

      I put pressure points in the clay as wanted to get glaze to run. So snow all over x3 Top inch in and out obsidian x2 Indigo float x2 then a ancient Jasper thick on rim and top half inch to cause the run.

  • @kiddywriter
    @kiddywriter 3 года назад +1

    Lois...since you don’t use a vent system on your kiln, do you need to open the lid/peep holes during your firing? Bisque and glaze?

    • @LoisHook
      @LoisHook  3 года назад +2

      With bisque leave out bungs check for steam using mirror. Once no steam put bottom bungs in leaving top open. Glaze bottom three in.
