Nice trains to be sure, but would have liked to have seen any of the following: TX Special, TX Chief, TX Zephyr, TX Eagle; all fairly significant named trains in their day.

@@marksimpson5199 missed an opportunity to show the union pacific M 10,000 union pacific E9 streamliners and, a honorable cameo of union pacific 844 since it was never retired and did occasionally see use on union, pacific passenger trains after 1959. There was even one or two times it briefly served as motive power for Amtrak in the early 70s in order to give the locomotive some use while it was being ferried in between excursions For union pacific. This is a very little known fact but it has been confirmed to have happened a few times in the late 70s. I found out about it on the DVD called Union Pacific 840 for the early years when it showed some footage of this. While it is a very little known fact, this would mean that Union Pacific 844 is along with southern pacific 4449 would technically be the only two steam locomotives to be used on one-way passenger trains with Amtrak as 4449 was the centerpiece of Amtrak’s very first instance of flirting with the idea of steam excursions back in February 1977, when it was being sent back to Portland Oregon after completing its tour of the American freedom train. In order to help pay for the move and to get some more publicity the organizers of the American freedom train made a special arrangement with Amtrak to pull a one-way passenger train, special deemed “ the great transcontinental, Amtrak steam excursion” and as part of the event 4449 along with a Amtrak passenger diesel in the red, white and blue stripes with the silver background, pulled a long string of Amtrak passenger cars from Florida to Oregon over the course of a few days as part of a single passenger train special. what makes the event all the more interesting is that in addition to its bicentennial American freedom, train paint, looking very appropriate, and practically lending itself to the Amtrak rollingstock behind it some of the crew of the locomotive decided to paint the word Amtrak on the tender during the event. If you ever decided to remake this video by adding details like the union pacific and maybe some more Amtrak stuff perhaps you could have the pictures with union pacific be featuring the M 10,000 the E9 streamliner diesel and union pacific 844. Additionally, perhaps a brief cameo of 4449 in the 1977 Amtrak transcontinental steam excursion could be featured showing how the word Amtrak was painted on the tender? You can find this image and further information about the event on the Internet and it’s quite interesting.

The final nail was loss of mail and package express to GM trucks. Slow , expensive trucks. Even air mail is gone today. it's trucks all night miles of them on the interstates .

Mail is still shipped on passenger planes. I worked cargo at the local airport. U.S. mail went out every morning on the first passenger flight along with luggage.
