  • This is a description of the full movie. The Santa Fe from the 50s to the end in the 1993 era. Lots of passenger F-unit trains and freight with many paint colors. See the speedy “Super-C” freights that redefined the rail-freight industry - as it was run like a premium express passenger train.
This is Tehachapi, Cajon Pass, the Los Angeles Area and the Bay Area at its best. The Needles Subdivision and Stockton Junction round out the action in this tribute to the Santa Fe’s various generations of the “Warbonnets”.
To quote Model Railroad News, “I can’t think of a better way to spend an hour and a half...”
To quote Railfan & Railroad magazine, “This prolific producer, specializing in high-quality, well researched and narrated, mostly vintage movie programs of operations mostly in the Golden State has brought back to life the evolution of Santa Fe diesel motive power… Fans of the Santa Fe’s classic diesel era and the various incarnation of its locomotive paint schemes should find this program to be enjoyable, and likely required viewing.

BNSF, please at least do a few heritage Santa Fe units. Or even better, just drop the Halloween colors and the wedge logo and rename yourself Santa Fe.

"Santa Fe, All the Way," (its' fun to ride the train), to quote the old Santa Fe TV spots promoting their passenger service in the 1950s-early 60s. Thanks for sharing!

So thankful to have been part of early SF and SP passenger travel. As time passed, the wonderful lunch cars were replaced with vending machines in some, and in many cars the AC was sometimes faulty, leaving many to open windows in the old Pullmans going up the Central CA Valley. But what a great journey for a kid this was! A favorite highlight was the train stopping in the middle of nowhere (NorCal) while engineers chased herds of cattle off the tracks, and moved on. Such beautiful scenery, wonderful memories. Thanks for this treasure,

For many railroads passenger service was something forced on them by the ICC. For the ATSF it was a sence of pride & a good public image.

I only rode Santa Fe to San Diego quite a few times I think back how great it was that I got to experience a private owned Railroad passenger service. We would ride down to San Clemente Beach for the day

Also remember that Santa Fe took away the rights to use their passenger train names from Amtrak, because the service wasn't up to Santa Fe's standards. It took many years for them to allow Amtrak to use the Chief name again on their trains.

Santa Fe was an early user of diesel power because their tracks ran through some of the driest areas of the Southwest.
