  • This one chapter of a full 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTE video production covering Sacramento, Roseville and all the way to Sparks Nevada with the history of the famous Donner Pass line. Visit our website at www.cspmovies.com
    Description:
From old Sacramento to Reno, Nevada we present the any challenges of the Sierra crossing. Filmed over three decades in all types of weather and every type of train from 1955 to 1995. Ride a F7 powered passenger train in a raging snow storm. See early diesel power and the history of the line’s building, the snow sheds, tunnels and more. Visit the old pre-merger Roseville hump yard and see a wonderful mix of old SD and GP “high-hood” power.
Donner Pass was America’s first line into California and we cover the politics, engineering and construction of this historic line.
The last years of the SP are also covered with great action with the “Tunnel motors” built to cope with the extensive, long tunnels and snow sheds. Expect long trains, lots of helper units and foreign power mixed in

Ah-ha! I spy a Chicago Northwestern and a Soo engine-which brings fond memories of midwestern childhood(GN, NP, BN, OR, DWP, DMIR, SOO, MR, CNW, etc). Your videos are very enjoyable and informative; thank you!! Totally captivated by the Sacramento Northern story and your related video. Cheers.

You know that feeling when you hear a song you haven’t heard in over a decade and you get a flood of memories? That hit me at the 1:57 mark. Forgot all about that sound and never even realized today’s locomotives don’t sound like that anymore. Used to hear those engines when I lived in Nevada.

It would be awesome to see a video of the locomotive re-manufacturing process of the EMD locomotives at Sacramento - if such a video(s) exist.

5:41 The narration is incorrect as Caltrain is the commuter service that runs from San Francisco to San Jose, not even serving Sacramento: it's an Amtrak California Capitol Corridor train that is seen crossing the Sacramento River bridge.
