At SFOT, MrFreeze actually does run backwards! In July, the ride valleyed 3 times in one month, so maintenance decided to switch one train to face backwards, and the other to face forward. Since the change, the ride has valleyed once, and the forwards train was the one that valleyed. It’s had some downtime, but maintenance has tried their hardest to keep the backwards train running as much as possible.
oh for real? This is news to me! Thats actually awesome, that was our original hope with the change- so love that they decided to do this!
Can confirm. I was just at SFOT in late August and they had one train facing forwards and the other backwards
Yessir
Can also confirm, they were only running the one backwards train when I was there in August
Can also also confirm, rode the backwards train a few times at SFOT, they run both directions.
"I need that reverse blast in my life." Don't we all 😂 Sarah is awesome!!
I personally am a fan of the Boss, its rough around the edges and I miss the helix but it's worth the ride, my 2nd favorite at the park. But nothing beats Screamin' Eagle at night. I used to operate it, and I've gotten night rides where it was overspeeding. When its at it's best, it has the single strongest airtime moment at the park. Favorite ride at SFSL and 2nd best night ride in Missouri right behind Outlaw Run.
That's the busiest I've seen SFSTL in all of my recent visits over the past several years. Most of the rides are near walk-ons or station waits.
The Boss doesn’t run in under 60 degree weather due to the layout being super prone to valleying, especially after they removed the 540 degree helix.
Once the helix got removed they had to make the mid course brakes harsher because the double up at the end was designed with that helix & now that it’s removed the train would take the double up too fast, which is why the brakes on the mid-course are so harsh… but because of that the train CRAWLS over the large hill after the mid course brakes, so I’m sure that’s where the valleying risk is
Honestly, even with the super harsh brake run the double up at the end is still intense.
Why did they remove the helix, wondering
I'm a minute in and I gotta say, I enjoy The Boss.
Screamin' Eagle is my personal favorite PTC I've been on. Better than Racer in my opinion, but that a great one too. It's such a sneaky terrain coaster with a classic layout!
The Joker Carnival of Chaos is going in front of Rookie Racer
I definitely know people who've said the boss is really fun and they'd be upset to see it RMC'd.
I'm proudly one of those people who'd be upset if it were Rmced
@@ThrillSeekersandHellRaisers I've not been to the park, but I've got 5 RMCs in my top 10 so I think them RMCing any of their woodies would give them that elite ride to push them over the edge
This is actually so amazing! This is one of my home parks and I am.so happy you went back, its been a very long time. I can't wait to see this!
As someone who has this as their home park, one of the ride ops told me that Boss isn’t able to open until the track temperature is 55 degrees. Hopefully next time it is open
Always stoked when I see there’s a new coaster studios video :D been my favorite on RUclips for a while now
I really liked the Boss when I visited Summer 2022. An absolutely speed powerhouse, and the second drop (if you know) caught me off guard. It does crawl over some of the highest points, so can easily see why it couldn’t run in the cold.
The river king mine train actually used to have two sides!! One of the sides was turned to a stand up coaster for less then a year then put the original trains back on. And the side that didn’t have stand up trains was relocated to Dollywood a couple years later. Then was relocated to magic springs and it’s still there today as big bad John!
boss is amazing it’s in my top 5 wooden. not even that rough and has multiple good airtime pops, very unique and cool layout, and very intense
Why am I not surprised you chimed in here to say that LOL
@@CoasterStudios it’s true tho i’m so sad y’all didn’t get to ride it :( i’ve also never seen that park with anything worse than station wait for any coaster and i been there over 10 times y’all got so unlucky with crowds
@@CoasterStudios also looks like most people in these comments actually agree with me about boss lol
Love your videos! I can’t wait to get back out there.
Freeze at Over Texas has one side forwards and one side backwards
I went here this summer for the first time with my youth group. Mr. Freeze is amazing.
screamin eagle used to have pretty crazy ejector, but they put a whole bunch of trims on it a couple years ago
I personally really like Boss. It has a great sense of speed and it was fun enough that I didn’t care that it was rough.
Wow I'm surprised you would put this at #3 of those three parks, I lived nearby all three for a few years and SFSL was always so much more enjoyable than WoF. Pretty underrated park, great rides, and well-run. Nothing touches SDC though!
We love MR. SIX Always have a SIX FLAGS DAY!!! 🦅
4:46 with this as my home park, I am turning around and running if I see this 😂😂😂
Great shots & beautiful cinematography! I especially love the shots of Rookie Racer & the transition into Fright Fest at night at 11:46 !
9:05 *half right correction* River King Mine Train is original to the park! It used to operate with 2 tracks, then Dollywood bought one track. Dolly then replaced that with Tennessee Tornado!
@coasterstudios
ahhh I had it backwards, my bad! Super cool though!
@@CoasterStudios it is a crazy story! I really love SFStL. It is in such a beautiful setting!! With just a little bit more love, the park could be really good! It has crazy high potential!
That part of the queue for American Thunder is almost never actually used. You went on a busy day.
Front row rides on Boss are great
I am so sad you weren't able to do the Boss. Honestly my favorite at the park, although it could use some Titan Track/RMC and a return of the helix!
Fright fest is crazy busy at St. Louis, but if you come during the summer time the waits will be really small and everything will be open. Might not have the best coasters but outside of Fright Fest there's normally never anyone there so the lines are short. I have heard people say The Boss is their favorite. I think it got a little more smooth this year compared to the past few years but it can still make your head hurt.
SFSTL was my home park growing up. Had fond memories of the place and I loved the Boss when it came out. Then I went to Great America in Chicago and it blew ours out of the water (Raging Bull is still one of my favorite rides ever). Sad to see in 20 years they haven't done much to close the gap between them and the other SF parks or the other parks in MO. An RMC'd Boss and the addition of a B&M hypercoaster would be a good start.
Yayyy amusement park speaker content...me want more of it
If you guys really want to go to a good haunt, you guys need to start doing vocal haunted houses because I honestly think they are so much better and more interactive and more personal than theme park/amusement park haunts and the part is you and your group r completely by yourselves it’s not like a Congo line like Hollywood horror nights or those other haunts
Wahoo! Another vlog
1:20 welcome to Canada!
“The boss aka me tonight” 😎 my guy 👍🏾
Also the ninja is known as the head chopper. The whole time your head is getting banged from side to side but that’s why I’m scarred to ride it.
Screamin is a lot better then Racer... mostly due to the setting of it being in the woods. Awesome night rides.
I'm not sure when Six Flags over Texas made the change, but now, one train launches forwards, and one launches backwards. I was there last weekend, and I was shocked when I saw it in the station. They finally did what everyone has always wanted. When the queue splits near the end, go to the left for the backwards launch, go to the right for the forwards launch. The spike actually provides better sustained airtime on the forwards launch side.
Thanks for the vlog! It seems to be the least talked about six flags park.
The Boss is my favorite coaster at the park. It is not the same since they turned the mid course up and removed the helix at the end. That helix was super intense, really shook ya up and was a great finale. Won't lie though, the Boss has some bite to it and is not for the faint of heart.
They need an amazing hyper coaster and something like Velocicoaster.
Surprised they weren’t running both trains on Freeze with that line.
Also odd that the Boss wasn’t running at that temp. I’ve been at night during fright fest and ridden it, it was quite chilly. Though maybe that was pre-helix removal.
Mine Train was my first coaster as it was the gentlest of the coasters there.
Definitely looks like you went on a surprisingly busy day, I’ve never had to wait that far back on Evel Knievel.
I can say boy oh boy the boss is something you guys really should go back for. Since sfsl doesn’t have a lot of rides that are hardcore, the boss would prolly b ur top 2 hardcore after mr freez. It’s very fun and a lot of drops that put you off your seat and you wish it’s over but it keeps goin bc it’s so intense on ur body. And since fr freeze is short, the boss might be number one. Also, you might feel G’s on the boss, specially going up hills so fast😅😊also my head hurt REEAL bad after boss so did my friends and it’s really fast
Yo Taylor, At Six Flags over Texas, on mr freeze they have 1 train going forward and 1 going backwards! lol
thats awesome! great to hear!
Noooooo! I was there the day before! I wish I would have seen you guys :(
@Sarah, I don't think Boss is bad!! I love it. It's my 37 overall.
Screaming Eagle was my fave at SFSL since I was 8. But last visit it was pretty rough
A while back they had a Tony Hawk spinner. My old beat up body loved that. I giggled the whole time.
River King Mine train is from the early days of the park, although many changes over the year
I like American Thunder
You missed out if you didn’t ride American Thunder in the front. I get it, back airtime but something about thunder in the front makes you just feel the shear speed. I’ve had over 50 rides since this is my home park.
0:40 nah what, boss is one of the best woodies in the country imo, although it definitely isn’t smooth
fun fact: my great grandpa helped design me freeze and my grandpa worked on maintenance for mr freeze
also: the boss is my favorite
You should go back and ride American thunder on a hot summer day. Really does whip around the track so much better. On a hot night it rivals me freeze for best coaster in the park for me. But I also prefer lateral forces over air time. So there’s that
Screamin’ Eagle was my first ever roller coaster
The Boss is actually a very good ride - super thrilling with a great layout (It's one of the biggest coasters CCI ever built). I don't care for it however because it's too rough for me (I was reminded of that when I rode it again in early August ... "one and done" for sure). What do you expect, It's a CCI with Gerstlauer Trains - enough said. I'm surprised there weren't any comments about Ninja (even though it was closed). That ride is not nearly as bad as everyone says it is (too bad you couldn't ride it and find out for yourselves). The Screamin' Eagle is an awesome wooden coaster (one of John Allen's favorites I might add).
The garlic knots at Great Escape have indeed gotten less like a rock.
Boss Is so good my favorite coaster in Missouri. Sucks it wasn't open for you. Night rides during fright fest when it has no trims are elite.
Boss night rides back in the day… PEAK
@@theanygamer4044it's still peak! It's been running trimless everytime I go recently
This is my home park! Me and my brother were debating going for fright fest or around that time, and I could have potentially seen you here 😞 I have come to realize that this is one of the more neglected Six Flags parks, and I was really sad when Excalibur was removed. Definitely was hoping for something more than a family coaster given that the coasters in the park all have issues or are clones, aside from Mr. Freeze which is so amazing even though there is another one at SFOT. I’m really wanting Ninja removed and personally, I can see an RMC Raptor taking its place.
when i went in july there were no waits for anything besides for catwomans whip
I am curious when ya'll are going to visit Fronteir City in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, that is my home park. While the only true THEME park out of all the Six Flags parks, it is probably the lowest tier of them all.
its gets very cold in october for missouri
SFSTL is my home park. I used to be a defender of The Boss, but it really has become too rough to enjoy.
Me if I had glass bones and paper skin
I rode Boss a year after it first opened and it was AWESOME! I visited the park again a few years later and it was complete and utter garbage. Roughest ride in the park, if not the entire midwest, and that was saying something with Son of Beast still being open at Kings Island.
I ❤six flags and my mom bought us diamond passes for six flags
MY FREIND MET YOU GUYS ON MR FREEZE
Six Flags over Texas has one train forward and the other side backwards. I think it's the better one, just because now you can ride it both ways on the same day assuming they are running two trains.
This is news to me! Thats actually awesome, that was our original hope with the change- so love that they decided to do this!
You showed up on the worst day to come on a Saturday and cold weather
You should do eagle at night. Totally different experience.
Also how would you have liked to ride mine train back in the day when they had arrow stand up trains for that one season
I remember riding the boss when it was almost brand new. It's sad to see how rough it's become and that they've removed elements from it as well. Honestly if they RMC it, that would be their stand out coaster.
You could say the SFSL Mr. Freeze has some Mistery to it
When are u guys going back to sfga it’s my home park and it’s so underrated and it has been two years since you last went
I’ve never waited in a line over 40 minutes in my 15+ visits to this park 😭 y’all went on the worst day lol
I like The Boss :( but seeing as this is my home park, it may be nostalgia
The reason the Mr. Freeze station sucks is because the special effects actually overheated. My family was there one day and there was just smoke pouring out of it.
Also I like The Boss.
I love the boss
Geez that is PACKED compared to when I went last summer.
Damn, wish I had been there the day you were! Last time I was there in late September I ran into someone that knows Airtime Mike (I was wearing my Coaster Idiots shirt).
St. Louis' management is very...iffy with weather. Back in June all the coasters closed around 1pm on a day I was there because uh, there were some dark clouds and one clap of thunder in the distance? They didn't reopen anything the rest of the day. And last time I was there they were rotating ops between some rides, so I'm sure Boss being closed meant something else was running. Hopefully.
I'm glad that Rookie Racer has some "theming" but also isn't a speaker playing a generic commentary track the cheapest attempt at theming ever?
I literally don't think that Freeze's second train is in service any more. Like, the platform doesn't even move most likely. Also, American Thunder is better.
Whip, Supergirl, Spinsanity, and Fireball were all closed last month for me too. I get the water rides going down after labor day, but like half the flats were closed! Just the scrambler, swing ride, and Justice League were open last time I went. Colossus has been closed all season and I'm 99% certain Joker is closed and gone in favor of New Joker. And I've literally never seen the water tea cups running. I'm glad that they do focus on keeping the coasters open above other things, but it would help to have like, 2-3 more flats even if everything was open.
Mine Train gets sneaky-long lines when the flats are down and it's an event that brings families, I think a lot of parents hand down the nostalgia to the kids. And it's still a pretty fun ride, definitely in my top half of coasters at the park. Glad I got to lap it during some ERT in the early summer (though bummed that the ERT had it, Boomerang and SkyScreamer as the only 3 rides open. I was really hoping for night rides on any of the three woodies).
Their line estimates are crap and never remotely accurate. Half the time they just don't even exist, or the app says the ride's down.
American Thunder has great airtime if you're not stapled. I've had some rides where they left me multiple inches and my butt was fully off the seat on the camelbacks that cross the queue. Maybe it's weak in comparison to other parks but here it's a VERY strong ride compared to the competition.
Boss is good. It's in my top 10 coming in at number 6/250
Hi Taylor and Sarah, which six flags parks do you recommend?
I never understood the hate for the boss. It is the star attraction in the park and maintains its ridership. While it is great that we have such great attractions through RMC and GCI why should it be at the cost of a great and intense wooden coaster. If this coaster gets an entire overhaul I would love to see the gravity group retract the coaster to ensure the experience stays for a long time.
The Boss is the most pain I ever had on a coaster
Ever been stapled on Xl 200?
For Rookie Racer it looks like a Ferrari, which if its anything like the F1 team, the pitstops (dispatches) should be slow.
The Go Karts at SFOG seems out of place after they opened Pandemonium a couple of years ago in their newly theamed Screampunk district. It should be removed sometime next year and replace it with a Raptor.
1:40
I’m loving the SFOT hate
Was River King Mine Train really at Dollywood? I think he's confused, maybe he is mixing it up with Big Bad John (Thunder Express) from Magic Springs? Am I wrong?
It was at Dollywood but he did mix things up. The version at Six Flags St Louis used to have two tracks. Eventually one side was sent to Dollywood where it operated as Thunder Express. Later Dollywood sent that coaster to Magic Springs where it still operates
That's cool. I learned something new there. I got to ride Thunder Express as a youngster and guess I just assumed it was built for Dollywood. I had no idea that was relocated twice. Watching the pov back they may have done the best job of any relocation ever. The coaster fit the terrain of Dollywood like a glove.
St Louis is my home park and it’s very sad to see how they’ve let the boss crumble over the years
The new general manager of Six Flags St.Louis has said that RMC Boss is coming
finally *_IR0N MANAGEMENT_*
I’ll believe it when I see it
No. He later retracted that statement
@ThrillSeekersandHellRaisers no he didn't
Oh hey I work here
they cant run 2 trains on mr freeze, because one of the trains constantly underparks and shuts the ride down for 30 or 40 minutes with people stuck on it, i operated it in 2016
They run two trains all the time.
yeah it has 2 trains probably 80% of the time i’m there even when it’s empty
@@peterschwab5259 It is true that sometimes the magnets slow the train a bit more than usual and that ends up with an under park. And that condition will keep occurring all day because I think it might be a specific set of weather conditions causing it. The ride has no drive tires. The solution to an under park the last time I saw one was literally just get a bunch of people together to push the train manually.
Its probably good you didn't get on Boomerang as its currently my least favorite coaster. It was reloacted from SFOT and still has arrow trains with the old orange arrow OTSRs. It was probably the roughness roler coaster ive ridden and somehow managed to brake my dads sunglasses.
Fun fact. They are putting a flat ride there.
When are you coming to six flags St. Louis this season I want to meet you guys
We don't have any plans to visit this season
I want to know the lore about the log flume
“The boss is bad” common man, it’s all we got😂
An elite cci? That's a win.
It's definitely false that Boss only gets hate. In fact, its probably the most polarizing coaster I know. I personally don't like it but its not even because its rough.
Coasterdash Likes Boss Sarah
primos is the best food in the park
I think JB’s is. And Macho Nacho when open.
Was that $15 for A SINGLE SLICE of Pizza
We had a dining plan so we didn't have to 'pay' for it so could be worse!
The six flags closest to me. I think, but I don’t really care about six flags.
The Boss has been hot garbage from Day One. Boss occupies an amazing spot where a great rollercoaster could be built.
7:53 😂 Why are people so rude?
Aren't you guys 'big' enough by now to get an actual answer if you reach out to six flags about things like the smoking area next to the queue? I'd really want to hear their take on that.
Boss is easily the best woodie at the park for me... American Thunder is a family coaster and Screamin' Eagle is both rough and airtimeless 🤷🏻♂
Back in 2020 I had the EXACT opposite experience with Screamin Eagle
@@JulianDale94 It must be due for a retrack... it was pretty bumpy this year!
