      Do you know why RideOps by in large are happier in Europe? Because unlike working at SixFlags, Working in the park is enough to raise a family on in most European parks, and being laid off for the winter is no big deal because they have great pay and government benefits.

    For a brief period, Goliath was widely recognized for having the longest drop at 255 feet (78 m) and the fastest speed of 85 mph (137 km/h) among all closed-circuit roller coasters in the world. Millennium Force at Cedar Point eclipsed both records several months later when it debuted on May 13, 2000, with a drop of 300 feet (91 m) and a maximum speed of 93 mph (150 km/h).

I'm not talking a normal hard brake run btw I'm talking malfunction damage the trains bad.

    I rode X2 for the first and last time probably 10 years ago, give or take when I was about 40 years old, and that's when I realized coasters are a young mans game. LOL While I would probably never ride it again, I have to admit, I was proud of taking the plunge. I'm pretty sure the fire element was working when I rode, but it went unnoticed while riding, but Metallica blaring in my ears was something else I'll never forget. When I see someone like Sarah shook from a ride like that, it makes someone like me feel better about my experience with X2. All the best and safe travels.

      I hear ya. I'm 52 and while I would probably go on just about any rollercoaster one time, there are many rollercoasters that I just cannot do multiple times in a row. I learned that this summer when I went on Medusa at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom three times in a row with my kids. Honestly, I was feeling somewhat nauseous by the time I hit the final brake run on the first ride, yet my boys persuaded me to go two more times.

    I thought Goliath would be stupid but I like the sense of speed. Those Giovanola trains are really heavy and they seem to keep their speed better than other trains by other manufacturers. I think the airtime hill is really good the helix is crazy. And I’ve noticed that people who are in the general public like this ride because of that sense of speed and it’s not overly aggressive

    • @ShinHito
      @ShinHito 3 месяца назад +2

      I rode Goliath shortly after it opened and it was one of the most intense rides I’ve ever been on. But the last time I rode it back in 2019 the mid-course brake run completely slowed the train to 0 and then absolutely took all the bite out of the helix. So it is a great coaster and I will ride it every time, but I also understand if people don’t like it.

    I think Goliath is an enjoyable but not memorable ride. It’s almost like the family hyper-coaster. I don’t think it deserves the hate that some people give it, but I also don’t think it is good enough for any top ten lists. It’s a solid middle of the road coaster, and a good one for someone’s first hyper. If you’re wanting something more intense then you probably won’t like it, but if you’re wanting that then you’ve probably moved well beyond your first hyper anyways.

  • @HandsomeRob2008
    @HandsomeRob2008 Год назад +6

    X2 is absolutely unreal! If anyone hasn't gotten the credit yet, the back row inside seat is one of the most amazing roller coaster experiences out there. The outside seats do hurt a lot. It's not a perfect ride in the sense that it can give you a headache sometimes. The last raven turn (if you're in the back) is very very very intense. It feels like being sucked into a blackhole. X2 is not really a ride you want to marathon. I mean you can... but the intensity of this ride is a bit extreme. Maybe if you keep doing the front row it's doable. X2 and Intimidator 305 just have way too much intensity that it's a bit much to keep riding those rides over and over, but if you can do it knock yourself out.
    X2 is my number 1 because the sensory overload is just absolutely unreal. For those few seconds coming out of the first raven turn you feel like you are literally flying through the air. And then the backwards loop is one of the greatest feelings of your life. What's amazing about this ride is that you actually only go upside down twice. It feels like way more, but it's only twice! X2 is so amazing and it's a shame there aren't more 4D coasters (not the free spinning ones!) around the nation (or world, outside of Asia).
    Tatsu in the back row is a little too intense for me. The pretzel loop in the back is very very intense. I find Tatsu more enjoyable in the front rows. Amazing flying coaster. Very very underrated.
    When it comes to Goliath... I rode this thing the first year it came out, and I had very very high expectations for it. I was very disappointed when I first rode Goliath. Over the years I've come to the conclusion that Goliath is a solid ride. It's not a crazy airtime machine but it's ok. Very smooth, but it's not a great out and back hyper like other hyper's out there. It's ok. Nothing great, but not really bad. I'll ride it once but there's so much more at Magic Mountain to ride that's way better.
    I agree with everything Taylor says about Twisted Colossus. I was there this summer and I made it a point to focus a lot of my rides on Twisted Colossus. I went on it 12 times and I only got a half of a duel! Ugh! So frustrating. Twisted Colossus is a ride you want to ride on a busy day. It's not that great when there's not a lot of people there. When you have two packed trains with people and it's dueling, the energy is unreal! It's so much fun! Definitely Top 10 when it's dueling. But like Taylor said, it's not dueling anymore, and Magic Mountain needs to do a security checkpoint like they do on Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion so that the ride ops are much faster when you get to the station so the dueling can happen more often than not.
    Magic Mountain is incredibly huge. When I was growing up in Northern California, we'd go down to Magic Mountain and I didn't have much to compare it to (because I hadn't visited a lot of other Six Flags). Magic Mountain is in a league of its own when it comes to roller coaster amusement parks. There's only a handful of other parks around the world that can compete with its sheer size of attractions. You can't do everything in one day. You can do all the roller coasters in one day but that's such a challenge because there's going to be at least something that goes down throughout the day (usually).
    The weather of LA is very very nice which is why Magic Mountain can operate year round. That's a plus, but then you usually have something down due to maintenance (last time I was there Apocalypse was closed).

    • @thelazmatazz
      @thelazmatazz Год назад +3

      @@thelazmatazz Twisted Colossus is an RMC which races two trains together.
      It usually doesn’t duel though which is a huge bummer but when it does it’s a Top 10 coaster for sure like what Taylor says.

    • @euro_mir9983
      @euro_mir9983 Год назад

      It's staffing. Dueling is so hard to do with 2 trains. And the parks have to shut down the rides close to closing so the maintenence team can do maitenence

  • @midnighthour733
    @midnighthour733 Год назад +1

    Finally, you hit my home park. I've been a member for about 5 yrs and while I still love the rides, the park itself is going downhill. It needs a coat of paint and some TLC but it's Fright Fest time and then Holiday in the Park so maybe next year. Crazanity at night is the best! I've been on all the rides so many times I started just sitting in different seats so now I know where to be for the most fun. Hands up on everything especially X2 (but make sure they don't staple you in) and the front isn't always the best ride.

  • @bradarnold7834
    @bradarnold7834 Год назад +2

    I will never understand your distaste for Goliath. I love it. There is some nice height, good speed, several fun elements, two very decent airtime moments (if you’re riding in the front) and some pretty crushing Gs in the Helix.
    Front seat, left side is best - it turns the brake run into the scariest part of the ride as it slow rolls to the left and really makes you feel like you’re going to fall out from 100 feet up.
    Is it Fury or Intimidator? Of course not. A better point of comparison is Magnum XL and in that showdown I think it wins hands down.
    It’s my #5 in the park after Tatsu, Wonder Woman, Twisted, and X2.

    For the pretzel loop on Tatsu... use your neck muscles at the bottom to hold your head away from the back of the seat and it helps keep the blood from rushing into your head causing a massive headache. And also while we're on the subject... on the last raven turn of X2, hold your legs straight out in front of you to avoid your legs slamming into the seat and bruising your calf muscles making it difficult to walk.

    For the first couple years of Twisted Colossus's operation, they had a policy that they would attempt to duel as much as possible. Unfortunately, that policy was dropped with two train operation as it hurt the throughput of the ride too much, and the window is so tight with three trains (~70 seconds) that a single guest issue will prevent a duel. Now that they have West Coast Racers offering a guaranteed duel every ride, it is no longer seen as necessary to focus on dueling with Twisted Colossus, so it really depends on the crew and the guests as to whether or not it will happen.
    Regarding Full Throttle, what SFMM got is less than half of the original design. It was supposed to be a ~6,000 ft. long coaster initially with three separate launches, but due to budget cuts it was significantly shortened. It is rumored that what became West Coast Racers was originally the middle section of the coaster, as it would have gone down the back of the hill, looped around the Cyclone Bay area (now the Underground), then launched back up the hill from the back. Presumably there was also originally more after the top hat that got removed.
    I like Goliath, but I don't love Goliath. It is not a ride for airtime lovers, but it still features a huge drop and a unique twisting layout. It's the sort of ride that I'll usually ride if the wait is reasonable, but won't wait 30+ minutes for.
    Lastly, seeing how empty it was for you definitely backs up the decision by the park to abandon 365 day operation. While weekdays in the off season have always been quiet, in the past the popular rides usually had waits of two or three trains in the station even on slow days. I guess the chain really is hurting for attendance.

    Full Throttle’s hang time was great, but better hang time does exist. Mr. Freeze when you get a rollback has the best hang time I’ve experienced. I was in the back row on the one at SFSTL, and I was stuck perfectly upside down for about 3 seconds and then it rolled back

    Goliath is fantastic. The drop is great, in the front it's great because you can't see the track until you're going down and it's great in the back because you get yanked over. The second drop is still like 200ft tall which is pretty nuts, and the floater hill is pretty insane, you get a solid 3-5 seconds of airtime. Even though you come to a complete stop on the mid course, if you're on the left side you're really hanging over the side when it banks to drop back down which is freaky. And the helix at the end is one of the most intense moments on any coaster. Taylor is actually insane or just trolling when he talks about Goliath.

    I went to Magic Mountain for the first time this Saturday and Sunday. I was visiting a friend that works at Disney, and we went to Disney, Knotts, and here. This place was by far the most disappointing. Superman, Viper, Goliath, Scream, Full Throttle, and Riddlers Revenge were closed. Wonder Woman was only open for a short time on Saturday afternoon/evening, thankfully I was able to ride it when it was open. I’ve worked at Cedar Point for four years. Coming from the Cedar Fair flagship park to the Six Flags equivalent it was a major disappointment. I knew it wasn’t going to be as good as an “overall” experience, but it seems like management doesn’t even care about the place. Then a lot of the coasters that were open were operating with one train making very long lines. I wanted to love the place, but I couldn’t. The only redeeming factor was being able to get four rides on X2. That was truly and amazing ride and blew me away.

    I’m curious how your opinion changes of SFMM on a weekend. Your Thursday visit is really the ideal time to go with minimal waits. Also Twisted Colossus typically runs 3 trains on busy days in recent years.

    Taylor Brother be fair, try and remember Goliath opened in 2000 and was a multi record breaking coaster. When you say it doesn't do anything could it be that it doesn't do anything now, you may be just a bit jaded having just marathoned X2. I'd say it's held up quite well and to this date is my favorite Six Flag's coaster barring the name Goliath and I've ridden all of them as have you I believe. It's 22 years old my friend built by Giovanola that only built three roller coasters ever, all of which are still operating , but now does not exist.

    1. Riddlers Revenge is better than Tatsu
    2. Wonder Womans aitrtime is very minimal (I rode first thing in the morning though)
    3. Goliath is a waste of space- literally any other hyper would be better

    Instead of trying to time the dispatches perfectly, it would be much simpler to stop the trains at the top of the lift hill until they’re in sync with each other so the workers aren’t pressured to get it right every single time.

    I love Magic Mountain. I think Fiesta Texas is objectively a better overall well rounded park but the ride collection is so great at Magic Mountain that it makes up for any inadequacies and I still rank it first in the chain. And I'm sorry to my Chicagoland and New York/Philadelphia area friends but Magic Mountain has the best ride collection in the chain. It also has a really cool setting despite the fact that the area surrounding the park isn't much to look at.

    Goliath is a very fun ride, but only if you wait less than 10 min for it. It’s a cool feeling diving into that tunnel at 85mph, the helix is forceful, and it’s probably one of the smoothest coasters ever, but that’s it. I’d be massively disappointed if I waited more that 10 mins on my first ride.

I've always kind of wondered if there is a downside to going during an uncrowded weekday. Like would the park keep a lot of major rides closed on those days?
