  • Fear of flying? But from the statistic - it's very safe. Flying through and around cumulo nimbus cloud towers with Embraer ERJ-190 D-AEMC during aproach and landing in Pisa. Recorded with GoPro HERO 3 in the window in full HD. QZ-8501 Akibat Awan Cumulonimbus.

    1. No pilot would fly into cumulonimbus clouds
    2. These are not cumulonimbus clouds anyway

    • @safespace4680
      @safespace4680 3 года назад +9

      This is correct. First of all, cumulonimbus clouds are way, way bigger than this. Sometimes (usually during the beginning of their lives) they are shaped like gigantic cumulus clouds (aka those white puffy cottonball clouds), but usually evolve into an anvil shape that extends for kilometres and reaches into the lower stratosphere.
      Second of all, flying into a cumulonimbus cloud is basically the same as writing a death contract. Extreme turbulence is already bad enough, but updrafts and downdrafts will batter you and quickly disorient you. After that, the insane amounts of rain, lightning, and insanely strong hail will essentially seal your fate.

      These clouds look like cumulus clouds. Very attractive, and fun to fly through. They always are bumpy inside.

    Fun to see the descent through the clouds. From the ground they all look "pasted" to the sky at one level. Only when you get up in them can you appreciate all their intricate layering in 3-dimensions.

    Passenger aircraft are not allowed to fly through cumulonimbus. So this title is wrong.

    • @hantus7523
      @hantus7523 4 года назад +8

      NoPants, Passenger aircraft are allowed to fly through cumulonimbus clouds but in most cases pilots fly around them, however here ATC could have rejected their request to diverted 30 degrees or so for weather.

    • @xcifer
      @xcifer 4 года назад +18

      @@hantus7523 This is not true. A pilot would even divert to another airport in order to not fly into a cumulonimbus cloud.

      @@germanstorms2785 oh no, not just normal cu clouds. They were tcu clouds, a stage between cu and cb. Look at the high level cirrus clouds and the layers below, the conditions look like a cold front which means a cb is very likely to form. Hence the tcu :)

    You flew through 'towering cumulus' clouds, Tcu. Although bumpy, they lack the ferocity of cumulonimbus Cb, clouds. Pilots avoid Cb's by use of weather radar equipment - some examples are on RUclips.

    I am going to be nicer then those comments but i am still going to point this out, CB's or cumulonimbus clouds are often a lot taller and pilots arent allowed to fly through them anyway, and also you noticed how the clouds werent towering at all they were just sitting there? thats just big cumulus clouds, if it was cumulonimbus the up and downdrafts would fling the plane like its a toy, and you can see the clouds towering up, and if thats not enough, the hail will likely total your plane. Good shots tho

    Turbulence comes in 4 levels: mild, moderate, severe, and extreme. (Mighta got the names wrong, but it’s 4 levels)
    Most airline pilots will only see the third level a few times in their career, and never see the fourth. The max type of turbulence basically only happens inside of CB clouds from thunderstorms.
    This was probably mild turbulence as far as the captain was concerned.

    Lets speak straight because of all this nonsense .first of all 99.999999 % of all passengers will never ever encounter HEAVY ! Turbulence and you know why ? because pilots are not allowed to fly into it they have to diverted .unless you are a cool ex military Pilot who thought little cumulus clouds can`t do anything to a A 330 and everybody did know what happened . Pilots wan`t to live as much as any passenger on the plane they avoid all the turbulence and the ones you encounter is light to moderate at his best .Heavy Turbulence means the food trolley bangs against the ceiling ,overhead lockers opened and baggage flies around the plane and your most certainly will be injured if you don`t wear fasten seat belts .my advice to everybody have your Seatbelt on all the time in case you encounter CAT ( clear air turbulence ) have a nice flight .

    For me as a passenger (on say like an Airbus a320) can someone explain the descent to landing when thick dark clouds are involved. What forces that I’m feeling are from the plane, pilot decisions etc and what are from the wind, clouds, weather, turbulence etc.
    What is the pilots strategy through thick clouds when descending. In fact it would be good if anyone could explain the whole thing from seatbelt sign being illuminated to landing on the ground. I’m a nervous flyer and just want to know what exactly is happening. It always seems to be the billowy clouds that give you the most shakes. Thanks

    • @pathfinder44ltd
      @pathfinder44ltd 4 года назад

      @ MJ Music: PILOT STRATEGY is simple, to get from point A to point B "AS SAFELY AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE" (of course with passenger 'comfort' in mind)!
      2 things come to mind here. 1st, the pilots are professionals who execute their duties according to the laws of science (aeronautics, physics, etc) using their experience & knowledge attained to fly @ that skill level.
      2ndly, CUMULONIMBUS are THUNDERSTORMS & are to be AVOIDED. Modern passenger aircraft utilize weather radar that show the aircrews the intensity of the weather environment whereby they can navigate around those areas 'critical' enough to interfere with aircraft safety.
      YOUR CONCERNS should be to sit back & ENJOY your flight & leave the worries to the aircrews!
