slight correction, because everybody makes the same mistake: the spec for the pcie slot ist NOT 75W, but 5.5A at 12V + 3A at 3.3V, which is 66W over the 12V lines and 9.9W over the 3.3 lines. As most cards draw basically no power at 3.3V, the spec limit is 66W, not 75W. Also, as the 24pin has seperate 12V and 3.3V pins, for melting the 24pin, the 66W limit is the relevant one.
Technically the spec *also* limits a 16 lane PCIe slot to max 75W total (12V & 3.3V), but as few cards ever exceeds 9W on the 3.3V line, the 66W limit on the 12V line is usually the only relevant limit. For shorter (1, 4 or 8 lane) PCIe slots the combined limit is more relevant. For those slots the spec says max 2A at 12V (24W), 3A at 3.3V (9.9W), and 25W total, and since most cards does exceed 1W on the 3.3V line, the 25W total is usually the most relevant limit.

Those 1600W T2 power supplies are beasts - I'm using the same in my system after a CM V1200 couldn't keep up. Might be fun to ask Jacob why they used the Terminator 2 reference LOL The trick with using chilled water if you are going open loop is to only chill it down to `3C above whatever your ambient room temp is. If your deltas are anywhere like mine with a custom loop (15-20C) bringing your liquid temp (under load*) between 3-5C of your ambient will make a HUUUGE benefit alongside a CPU delid and GPU shunt mod. But you gotta watch that water temp like a hawk between idle/load so that it doesn't go BELOW ambient and create a condensation problem. Conformal coating spray can be your best friend here. As always, thanks for the vid and good luck with the OC. You guys rock.

To be able to say you are going to solder anything to a video card that most can't afford or get their hands on....The pair of balls between his legs must clank when he walks...
You really need a couple cheap 3D printers. I could‘ve modelled up and printed some brackets for much more effective air cooling (and a more physically stable setup) in a couple hours.
Overclocking using two 3090's is relevant to perhaps 100 people on this planet max, even if these cards were available. They're so expensive very few ppl will buy them, and almost no-one is going to buy two, especially for overclocking and record-setting purposes. It still is interesting, nonetheless.

Hello, Steve; NICE job!, thanks pal! 'K, i've been posting this a few places but when I saw you competing w/ Jay & Paul, well, here it is. A few months ago a was in my backyard, I walked by my heat pump & noticed the fan pulls air. I thought 'that's odd', so I searched online for heat pump fan efficiency. Turns out a pull far can be up to 20% more efficient. So I've been wanting to see if it holds up for PC fans, because I searched for heat pump fans. After I saw the search I moved the fan on my CM Hyper 212 EVO cooler from the front to the back. [Back is between the cooler & the exhaust fan.] My system is an old FX-6350 OCed to 4225, 4 x 4GB RAM & a Radeon 7 250. Old & slow, I know, but it runs great w/ MX linux. Temps are typically 34°-38°C but that's not really a load w/ linux. So I'm still looking for someone to test this & see if it makes a real difference. Hey, 20% better cooling would be pretty good, eh? [I know, 20% higher fan efficiency is not equal to 20% 'better cooling'―but how much better?] Maybe you could try it & see if there is a real benefit, since you're prolly looking for an edge. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!

I am a commenter, and I am definitely triggered by that thermal paste.
Grab your popcorn, fill up the soda, the saga continues + new contender entering, may the craziest person win.
Nothing gets the blood flowing better than watching a good ol' American Competition.
when you bring out the EVGA to smack jays cheap MSI's with heat pipes and no flat cold plate
I see you went with The Verge anti-static wristband. Nice!
The friendly competition between you three has got me pinned to my computer. Good work all.
Steve’s impression of jays sound effects really got me 😂😂
@FatherBootyHands near the end of to much thermal paste
Apparently precision X is giving worse scores than Afterburner atm
I am triggered with that Icing. 😂
I'm glad you guys can have fun in between all the research and work.
Lmfaooo Steve, I ain’t even watch the the video... the thumbnail 😂😂😂😂
Corsair 4000d case review in the making?
Yes, it is on the bench.
@@GamersNexus Really hope (for Corsair) that you guys have the Airflow one.
so glad i got a tuf card now
@donutdoode69 I'm getting the next revision and then both of you will have obsolete paperweights
@@jpesicka999 and im getting the revision after that so you will also have obsolete paperweight, mohahaha
Those 1600W T2 power supplies are beasts - I'm using the same in my system after a CM V1200 couldn't keep up. Might be fun to ask Jacob why they used the Terminator 2 reference LOL
The trick with using chilled water if you are going open loop is to only chill it down to `3C above whatever your ambient room temp is.
Seeing sportly competition like this is awesome. No vitriol, no politics; just three nerds with a little trash talk going at it for the sake of seeing what's possible. Do it boys, do it for the scores, do it for America. God speed. *tearful salute*
Jay is mostly occupied by beating himself. That’s kinda his schtick
LTT basically give up this fun, I’m sad 😞
linus is too busy counting his money to care about this rofl
@@Aaezil true
Now LTT became pop band
LTT has become "The Verge 2.0", so I don't know what you expected?
Sponsored content pays more.
Been waiting for this for so long and it's so damn good, can't wait to see what kind of other tricks you have up your sleeve for this one
You guys working together and helping build each other's content by introducing fans of each other to the others' channels, is absolutely what the fuck we need in 2020!!! LET'S BUILD EACH OTHER UP!!!!!
"Enough paste to trigger commenters and he we go"
...
Normal people trying to buy a graphics card: "Where the fck are did all the 3080s and 3090s go?"
RUclips reviewers: "And for my next trick, I'll show you how to build a house from the ground up using 3090s..."
"Make sure there's enough paste to trigger commenters" - LMFAO
I was thinking, "Wait, I thought you only used like a rice-sized grain of paste, wtf is Steve doing???"
Well played, sir!
The title in the thumbnail is amazing. When you say it out loud it sounds like your talking abouts cars " ripping Paultwojayz" sounds like ripping Paul's 2jz
It's funny cause Jay's a car guy....speaking of Jay if you read this I'm local come take my 2014 yukon for a spin i know its a big suv but i bet it will shock you with its built twin turbo 6.2l e85 setup 1388hp 987tq
Imagine saying "Yeah, i'm probly going to solder some capacitors to them later" and "going to rip them down to disable the LED's to squeeze out some more watts". To be able to say you are going to solder anything to a video card that most can't afford or get their hands on....The pair of balls between his legs must clank when he walks...
Saintbow this is his job and he’s good at it.
You really need a couple cheap 3D printers. I could‘ve modelled up and printed some brackets for much more effective air cooling (and a more physically stable setup) in a couple hours.
Or we can use twist ties and have it working in 3 minutes.
@@GamersNexus Maybe I‘m just too German to be able to appreciate that 😅
I am enjoying this little competition far more than I should.
I love the banter between your channels and fact that you respect and promote each other's Channels. May the best OverClocker win.
All of this would be relevant if WE COULD ACTUALLY BUY ONE.
Overclocking using two 3090's is relevant to perhaps 100 people on this planet max, even if these cards were available. They're so expensive very few ppl will buy them, and almost no-one is going to buy two, especially for overclocking and record-setting purposes. It still is interesting, nonetheless.
Do you have Hyperthreading off? Might be a marginal boost there.
I was thinking the same thing, other records like KINGPIN using the 10900KF have Hyperthreading off.
If you read this, Jay found an issue with EVGA Precision X1. MSI Afterburner was giving him more stable, higher OC's than X1. EVGA is aware of this issue
That opening...pure gold!
With all respect to Jay but damn Steve, that was just too good!
"there's a specific reason as to why the ASUS cards would give us an advantage"
Let me guess: ASUS secretly changed out the things on the back to ceramic bois.
Nah, the strix 3090 has a ridiculous 480W tdp.
Come on Bitwit, now we need you to have a go!
RIPWIT
Watching you put this setup together i swear i could hear the MacGyver intro theme in my head.
This is always my favorite series when you and jay do this. The icing on the cake is Paul jumping in
I lost respect for Jay a while back as he's been rather arrogant and controversial in recent years also belittling his audience/subs.
So I'll be watching your and Paul's vids on this sli comp.
Yeah I don't like Jay either. The few videos of his that I've seen all give off this arrogant vibe added to that he doesn't seem to know what he's doing or talking about.
@@Kepe you should see him on twitter
Seeing how 3 channels waste the entire stock of 3090 cards... is just sad, no gaming at all. :)
ur sad, we aren't this is amazing content, THANKS STEVE
Moreover flame lord, bots is the reason that cards are out of stock, not reviewers who probably received one str8 from the manufacturer in order to further demonstrate the capabilities of the product.
You mega cry baby
@@llortaton2834 wow you must have been dropped really hard as a baby to not differentiate between a joke and reality... 😂
Dumb dumb
As a content creator we could argue gaming is a waste of this cards :)
Hello, Steve;
NICE job!, thanks pal!
[Back is between the cooler & the exhaust fan.]
My system is an old FX-6350 OCed to 4225, 4 x 4GB RAM & a Radeon 7 250.
Old & slow, I know, but it runs great w/ MX linux.
Temps are typically 34°-38°C but that's not really a load w/ linux.
So I'm still looking for someone to test this & see if it makes a real difference.
Hey, 20% better cooling would be pretty good, eh?
[I know, 20% higher fan efficiency is not equal to 20% 'better cooling'―but how much better?]
Maybe you could try it & see if there is a real benefit, since you're prolly looking for an edge.
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
This is just so much fun! I loooove these friendly OC competiotions!
Steve... we get it, you hate the paste comments.
Please sthap wasting precious paste :( lol
It's not a waste. That's how much I wanted to use.
I dont have any plans upgrading from my Pulse RX570 but i was waiting these new cards just to watch this competition. This is just so good.
Watching Steve setting up his experiment and all I'm thinking is "Tune in next week to watch Steve attempt rigging a flux capacitor with spare parts!"
