Doom's engine is decently optimized but it's visuals and shaders are also dated techniques that are not very GPU intensive. Also the levels themselves are "design optimized" and not vast or sprawling so to praise the game for it's high frame rates is not right versus other games.

Marketing is part of a product. So GN will critique subpar or misleading marketing when they see it. They will also laud good marketing when they see it. I can't be more specific but there was a somewhat recent Silverstone case that received such praise because it had X and Y features but only had marketing for X features.

It's like a legacy thing by now. The original DOOM is used to benchmark how PC-compatible smart devices are; you can run Linux and therefore DOOM on things like smart fridges. So it makes sense if DOOM Eternal can run smoothly on a Tamagotchi.

That can do gaming. And can do more gaming than previous models known as Titan. Titans didn't have a high resolution advantage if I recall. So no other advantage other than some more frames but got a price tag of 2-3K. And Nvidia's statement that it's about gaming actually means that they commit now to that. Hence the extinction of the Titan and the rebranding to the xx90 naming convention. The old Quadro is the new Titan it seems.
It's not. Nvidia disabled the workstation optimizations present in the titans, so the previous gen titan rtx regularly outperforms it. There is no ampere titan yet. Unbelievable.
Clever Jensen, call the 3080ti 3090, clame its a Titan replacement with out the Titan driver stack. Jack up the price from 1200usd to 1500usd = profit!
The titan never was for cad or the like. Those unlocks were for the quadro lineup which never included the Titan as supported in the driver INF. Selecting the Titan "drivers" has always redirected to the same exact game ready drivers as mainstream.

Even if the series x gives us 2080 performance at $500 is a steal(I think its more like 2080S or more). This coming from a mainly pc guy and i was gonna buy a 3090 glad I didn’t i want to wait and see if we get a 20gb 3080ti or 3080 super. And i wanted to wait and see what rdna2 performs like. My strix 2080ti still doing great im in no hurry but i will probably pick up a zen 3 16 core cpu. I love my 9900ks and 3900x but the ks is my main gaming cpu if zen 3 can match it hopefully or surpass it gaming im switching and putting my fastest gpu with zen 3. I think rdna2 has a good chance against the 3080 and we know its gonna have 16gb’s of vram. I don’t care as much about ray tracing it still kills the performance too much for my liking. Its gonna be down to how good the reference cooler performs because custom cards are gonna be 1-2 months after launch. The vii’s cooler would’ve been much better if it was a little bit thicker there wasn’t much of a heatsink but the vapor chamber was a nice addition. I actually bought one for the 3900x and its so much better when you undervolt it to around 980-1000mv. The new cooler looks to be much thicker so i think we should see good temps lets hope acoustics are good. I think rdna2 will be more efficient than ampere that seems a given. I have a nitro 5700xt se with my 3900x right now but i will probably switch back i tried to keep it an all amd build.
Lawlzilla I think it will be more than a 2070S the X has 3328 cores, 208 TMUs, 80 ROPS, and a 320 bit bus width. The 2070S has 2560 cores, 160 TMUS, 64 ROPs and a 256 bit bus. Now lets look at the 5700xt which is not too far behind the 2070s. The XT has 2560 cores, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256 bit bus pretty much the same as the 2070S. The series x may not clocks as high but its close and has way better specs than the xt or super. And we know that rdna2 has better ipc and is more efficient.
They can barely figure out how to mix and match compatible game mechanics, what are you asking next? Honesty? Fair prices? Fair treatment of programmers?

I've never heard of anyone that actually plays that game yet Nvidia and AMD constantly use it to show off how much more "powerful" their newest GPU or CPU is. While there's no doubt their newest products are more powerful than their predecessors, it's very well optimized from the get go. Of course it's gonna look good in benchmarks and in marketing because of that.

I'd argue HUB are not relevant. Better graphs, less volume. Not that I don't like GN, just a different style. HUB for GPU, CPU and monitor reviews, GN for everything else especially the more niche reviews, factory tours etc.
Yeah it's very accurate opinion. I achieved 60 fps@1080 low/med settings on HD7950. Swapped my rx580 out of curiosity how it will manage. Both new DOOM are the best optimized games of the decade.

@@thisishuhwow doom 2016 ran at 30-50 fps in my old A10-7850k with rx560 4gb at 1080p with medium settings. I was really surprised it ran that well in that old quad core

tbf that game has cpu bottleneck eventhough its a remaster. whats even wierder is that it seems the game requires more cpu the more you crank the resolution. so you cant stop the bottleneck with that.
8k TVs will be 300 bucks in 5 years, but at that point we'll have new cards. It's like the Vive I bought early, works but it has flaws. Should have waited and picked up a 2nd generation set up.
As an electrical engineer, I only watch GN's reviews on computer hardware. This channel has authenticity written all over, and it just feels more relatable, not only because Steve himself feels like one of us, and not only because he backs it up with real experimentation, solid data, and sums it up nicely with technical insights, but also because he has the courage to do what most of us can only dream: He does not shy away from shady aspects of the industry, and constantly gives that middle finger to dishonest sales&PR bullshit. Steve destroys again, hell yeah!

According to Steam only about 1-2 % of users ever use 4k, I seriously don't understand the obsession of these comapnies with the resolution, almost no one is going to play 8k for the next 10 years.

@@federicocatelli8785 This chip is very powerful, the card has a buttload of VRAM. So much of it, in fact, that games won't be able to utilize all of it for years. This is a prosumer product, like Threadrippers. And this was promised to be a Titan successor by Nvidia! So when they intentionally handicap this card's performance in software in order to better segment their product stack and to sell more expensive cards it feels like a slap in the face to everyone interested in a good performing GPU. It's kinda borderline e-waste in a sense that the company wastes potential performance that this card can provide and enable creators and developers to build God knows what. If they're so greedy, they could've sold this for 500 bucks more but not intentionally castrate it. This is a grenade launcher that shoots 9mm bullets.
At this point, any rational person would just buy a used pascal or turing based quadro card. Especially for CAD. Quadros have even better driver certs then titans. The fact that Nvidia thinks $1500 isn't enough money to give allow Real View and enhanced simulations, which doesn't need that much compute power to begin with, is just absurd.

@@ThaGr1m Do you really think a stock 10900k grants less bottleneck than a 5.3GHz 10700k??? The 2 cores less don't really make such a huge difference, but probably give you a better chance to improve single thread performance due to higher possible overclocks.

Yep...we haven't even hit stable 4k for a single card yet (though I'm pretty sure the 3090 will do that). No console has ever done 4k (the XB1X and PS4 Pro use upscaling and lie about it). The "8K" demo Nvidia made was nowhere near 8k, it was faked with upscaling.
Just a quick note: the 4K/8K refers to the width in pixels, not to the total pixel amount, which would be in megapixels and thus have an M (Mega = million), not K (kilo = thousand) suffix.
They marketed it as a "gaming" card because the want to reserve the specialized drivers for their titan and quadro lineup that they will launch later. And we can't do anything about that since nvidia is competing with itself.
@@BillyONeal look at ltts vid. Nvidia replied specifically stating they have disabled some of the drivers. This way they can sell a $3000 titan in a few months, which is the exact same card but with the full drivers

I went with the RTX-3090... not because I expect to play any video games at 8K, but because my last graphics card became obsolete much quicker than I liked. I went with a low-mid range GPU for my last computer (Radeon HD-7750) in ~2013, and it was starting to show its age within a few years; I recall that Rise of the Tomb Raider and Doom both ran fairly shitty at 1080p low settings. Only a few years after the card came out, it was nearly obsolete, so hopefully the RTX-3090 will give me a bit of "future proofing," as much as is possible anyway

Doom's engine is decently optimized but it's visuals and shaders are also dated techniques that are not very GPU intensive. Also the levels themselves are "design optimized" and not vast or sprawling so to praise the game for it's high frame rates is not right versus other games.

Marketing is part of a product. So GN will critique subpar or misleading marketing when they see it. They will also laud good marketing when they see it. I can't be more specific but there was a somewhat recent Silverstone case that received such praise because it had X and Y features but only had marketing for X features.

It's like a legacy thing by now. The original DOOM is used to benchmark how PC-compatible smart devices are; you can run Linux and therefore DOOM on things like smart fridges. So it makes sense if DOOM Eternal can run smoothly on a Tamagotchi.

mpgxsvcd just frustrating that it took GN to say it for people to realise it - I really hope nobody bought this card today with the pretence of playing 8K games.
That can do gaming. And can do more gaming than previous models known as Titan. Titans didn't have a high resolution advantage if I recall. So no other advantage other than some more frames but got a price tag of 2-3K. And Nvidia's statement that it's about gaming actually means that they commit now to that. Hence the extinction of the Titan and the rebranding to the xx90 naming convention. The old Quadro is the new Titan it seems.
It's not. Nvidia disabled the workstation optimizations present in the titans, so the previous gen titan rtx regularly outperforms it. There is no ampere titan yet. Unbelievable.

The titan never was for cad or the like. Those unlocks were for the quadro lineup which never included the Titan as supported in the driver INF. Selecting the Titan "drivers" has always redirected to the same exact game ready drivers as mainstream.

I just want to like the video twice for this.
Even if the series x gives us 2080 performance at $500 is a steal(I think its more like 2080S or more). This coming from a mainly pc guy and i was gonna buy a 3090 glad I didn’t i want to wait and see if we get a 20gb 3080ti or 3080 super. And i wanted to wait and see what rdna2 performs like. My strix 2080ti still doing great im in no hurry but i will probably pick up a zen 3 16 core cpu. I love my 9900ks and 3900x but the ks is my main gaming cpu if zen 3 can match it hopefully or surpass it gaming im switching and putting my fastest gpu with zen 3. I think rdna2 has a good chance against the 3080 and we know its gonna have 16gb’s of vram. I don’t care as much about ray tracing it still kills the performance too much for my liking. Its gonna be down to how good the reference cooler performs because custom cards are gonna be 1-2 months after launch. The vii’s cooler would’ve been much better if it was a little bit thicker there wasn’t much of a heatsink but the vapor chamber was a nice addition. I actually bought one for the 3900x and its so much better when you undervolt it to around 980-1000mv. The new cooler looks to be much thicker so i think we should see good temps lets hope acoustics are good. I think rdna2 will be more efficient than ampere that seems a given. I have a nitro 5700xt se with my 3900x right now but i will probably switch back i tried to keep it an all amd build.
Lawlzilla I think it will be more than a 2070S the X has 3328 cores, 208 TMUs, 80 ROPS, and a 320 bit bus width. The 2070S has 2560 cores, 160 TMUS, 64 ROPs and a 256 bit bus. Now lets look at the 5700xt which is not too far behind the 2070s. The XT has 2560 cores, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256 bit bus pretty much the same as the 2070S. The series x may not clocks as high but its close and has way better specs than the xt or super. And we know that rdna2 has better ipc and is more efficient.
My take away. More game studios should invest in their engines the way Id has. Doom's optimization is what we the consumer should demand.
They can barely figure out how to mix and match compatible game mechanics, what are you asking next? Honesty? Fair prices? Fair treatment of programmers?

I am one of them, best modern 1930's pop adventure and one of the best drop in drop out co-op shooters today.
I've never heard of anyone that actually plays that game yet Nvidia and AMD constantly use it to show off how much more "powerful" their newest GPU or CPU is. While there's no doubt their newest products are more powerful than their predecessors, it's very well optimized from the get go. Of course it's gonna look good in benchmarks and in marketing because of that.

what game you play in 8k? mostly right is doom enternal and that game so flashing light that if you play in 8k you going to had seizure... look at it.. it is better to used in rending 3d studio.. good amout of vram and power..

According to Steam only about 1-2 % of users ever use 4k, I seriously don't understand the obsession of these comapnies with the resolution, almost no one is going to play 8k for the next 10 years.
@@GodOfWarBG I for one would love to move up to 1440p wide, but the monitors are just so damn expensive. If I want to stick to 144hz and the ips panel, it would hurt me 1000€ at least. Not even mentioning the 1080ti might not be enough anymore.
@@Menthix In Sweden I found a 144hz 27" curved 1440p screen for 250$. Yes it were a budget brand but have had it for 1,5 year and it is a fine screen.

@@federicocatelli8785 This chip is very powerful, the card has a buttload of VRAM. So much of it, in fact, that games won't be able to utilize all of it for years. This is a prosumer product, like Threadrippers. And this was promised to be a Titan successor by Nvidia! So when they intentionally handicap this card's performance in software in order to better segment their product stack and to sell more expensive cards it feels like a slap in the face to everyone interested in a good performing GPU. It's kinda borderline e-waste in a sense that the company wastes potential performance that this card can provide and enable creators and developers to build God knows what. If they're so greedy, they could've sold this for 500 bucks more but not intentionally castrate it. This is a grenade launcher that shoots 9mm bullets.
At this point, any rational person would just buy a used pascal or turing based quadro card. Especially for CAD. Quadros have even better driver certs then titans. The fact that Nvidia thinks $1500 isn't enough money to give allow Real View and enhanced simulations, which doesn't need that much compute power to begin with, is just absurd.

@@ThaGr1m Do you really think a stock 10900k grants less bottleneck than a 5.3GHz 10700k??? The 2 cores less don't really make such a huge difference, but probably give you a better chance to improve single thread performance due to higher possible overclocks.
@ThaGr1m for me an honest person is the one that recommends the best bang for your buck and do not try to justify the 10%-15% difference for 110% price increase.

Yep...we haven't even hit stable 4k for a single card yet (though I'm pretty sure the 3090 will do that). No console has ever done 4k (the XB1X and PS4 Pro use upscaling and lie about it). The "8K" demo Nvidia made was nowhere near 8k, it was faked with upscaling.
Just a quick note: the 4K/8K refers to the width in pixels, not to the total pixel amount, which would be in megapixels and thus have an M (Mega = million), not K (kilo = thousand) suffix.

They marketed it as a "gaming" card because the want to reserve the specialized drivers for their titan and quadro lineup that they will launch later. And we can't do anything about that since nvidia is competing with itself.

@@BillyONeal look at ltts vid. Nvidia replied specifically stating they have disabled some of the drivers. This way they can sell a $3000 titan in a few months, which is the exact same card but with the full drivers

I went with the RTX-3090... not because I expect to play any video games at 8K, but because my last graphics card became obsolete much quicker than I liked. I went with a low-mid range GPU for my last computer (Radeon HD-7750) in ~2013, and it was starting to show its age within a few years; I recall that Rise of the Tomb Raider and Doom both ran fairly shitty at 1080p low settings. Only a few years after the card came out, it was nearly obsolete, so hopefully the RTX-3090 will give me a bit of "future proofing," as much as is possible anyway
