You have definitely opened up the possibility of caring for our elderly loved ones, whether wheelchair bound or not on the same property with family. I believe the longer they can hang onto their independence is wonderful for mental and physical well being! Great video to show possibilities of caring for family. ❤
As a wheelchair user this is amazing to see. And from one of my favorite RUclips gals. Looks phenomenal. Always appreciative when people focus on building accessible homes.
Thank you so much. It was really eye opening when my dad used a wheelchair, how many things are not accessible. Anything I build now will be accessible.
Your Grandma is a lucky lady to have such a thoughtful Granddaughter. This is a beautiful smaller home for a handicapped person! I just Love your Walmart videos!! Love, Faith Falcone
First of all, you are sooooo amazing!!! I absolutely ADORE this house!! You are incredible, researching all of the options you have installed and the deco is so beautiful!!!! I congratulate you!! You should be very, very proud of yourself and I think this could become a second career for you!!! XOXO PS ... My mom was in assisted living in PA here where I live and we started off paying $4500 per month and at end were paying $7100 per month when she had to go in to memory care... her sister in NY is paying $14,000 per month OMG!!!! Sooo sad for the elderly! I am doing a kitchen remodel next year and will get the drawer dishwasher and microwave for sure, not handicapped but love them!!! Thanks so so much for sharing!!!!
You really did your research 👍🏻. This reminds me of the homes that The Wounded Warrior Project builds. God bless all of our handicapable friends and relations.
You put lots of love and care into this darling home. It obviously has many uses, but how thoughtful you had Grandma in mind first and foremost. ❤️2U my friend
Thank you for showing us this beautiful home. My son is in the process of putting together for me to live with him, didn't want to be a burden for him. I love all the amenities that is so thought out. I'll be sharing this. Thank you so much.
This is beautiful and something for me to think about as I get older. I’m 48 with MS so I love how much thought went into designing and those grab bars are so helpful even for me now when I stay in hotels for my balance. ❤ all ur content!
Wow I love the details you put together- it really shows how much you care for your granny, I love that! If I can ever do that for my in laws would love to do it- thanks for the inspiration ❤ Also the picture over the toilet made me LOL a bit with her covering her nose 😂
Thank you. I will build everything handicap accessible from now on. There were a few things that made it a little more challenging but nothing that was a big deal. Totally worth it!
This was so helpful, and so kind of you to share. You’ve installed so many features that I would not have thought of. Thanks so much for the information and for taking us for a walkthrough of your new space.
Thank you so much Mousy. My daughter and her husband at some point in the next couple of years want to buy a house on land and I want a tiny home to put on the property. This looked exactly like something I would love to build.
Thanks so much for sharing this lovely and flexible space. Great ideas for anyone considering future needs, including unexpected situations. A few thoughtful design options would make such a difference for even temporary problems with mobility at any age. I know your sweet grandma will love it and I hope you enjoy your new studio too!
This is amazing you gave me so many ideas I'm a care giver for my sister she lives my mother as well down the line if get the house I would make the house easier for her my so when she does chores it's not difficult for her she needs to live easier not harder
In alot of states you can't add another septic you have to tap in to the existing. That is what we have ran in to in our state. It was a measure about not being able to divide properties. We are building an adu, but it has to be movable, and we have to connect to the existing septic. It is kinda dumb. We are here to help out aging parents. You have done a beautiful job! Love the ideas ❤ that stairwell is pretty neat!
Thank you. Interesting. I don’t know our states rules but it tends to be more lax on everything than most states. And we are outside city limits, but who knows
I love this!!! I wish my sisters apt had this.. The kitchen is such a wonderful idea ..my gram would love all of these features! Thanks for sharing this❤
❤I’m really impressed with everything you’re offering to your family well thought ❤In my family my father is 83 and even though he’s able to walk he can still have the possibility of falling and to reduce that accident my sister’s and me take one day each to stay with him and like that he still has his freedom another thing is that they’re redoing his bathrooms and one thing that I was so upset with my sister’s is that they forgot their doing this for an 83 year old man so he needs every handle that they can put to prevent the falling of course he’s very stubborn and went with a whole tile bathroom so it was a little difficult to add the handles but they manage🤭❤Love You Blessings❤️ 😂😂(that also explains the change of scenery which I thought you move from your house😂)
Mousy, it's absolutely gorgeous, and I love how you made it handicap accessible. It would be a beautiful vacation for your grandmom, should she choose to visit. Great job!❤❤❤
That’s awesome, Mousy! I hope your grandma loves it when she has to live there. Would it have cost more (vs the interior attic slide down stairs in the bedroom ceiling) to make exterior stairs and door to the second floor storage area where your RUclips clothes are?
Thank you for this wonderful video. It will help a lot of people who are taking care of their elderly parents now or in their future. Thank you for your insight and a beautiful home! Pa. I love watching your channel.
My mother had a stroke last year and the assisted living in my small town is 6000 to 7000 a month now. They said the cost doubled after Covid. She is still in home with home care for now it was cheaper than the assisted living. Thank you for these ideas.
Wow! I am paying $3200 a month for the small room with a large bathroom in this Assisted Living Facility in Gulfport, Mississippi. Great idea in this video!
Assisted living in Virginia costs us $9,000/month. Less if your parent is willing to share a room. An accessible ADU with in home care is a fantastic solution. 😮
I would like to live in a little house like that in the future. It would require property with no deed restrictions where I live. My mom was in assisted living and it took her social security and her 4 kids to pay for her private apartment for several years, then hospice less than a month. My husband has health problems and I will take care of him as long as I can. We moved to a one story house but it doesn't have all the handicap features your current house has.
Can you give us a general idea regarding cost to build this with all the extras (special shower situation, pocket doors, stairs to the attic, etc)? I would love to build this type of home now to live in that is already ready for me as I age!
Thank you. I don’t know the break down of all those things. The stairs were a few thousand. The total cost of the house (land not included) was $184,000 in a low cost of living state.
I’ve been looking at the magic stairs for a few years. I know they are based in Florida. How did you find an installer near you. I couldn’t find a list on their website.
I’d say put grab bars in all homes. While going through chemo earlier this year, I was very weak and unstable . I really would have been safer with grab bars in the bathroom.
Good day! We will be building a 900 sq ft home. The hubby and I are getting older. We are empty nesters. We have purchased 11 acres and are preparing to build. Would you be so kind to share the plans? We will have an engineer setup the home with this is mind. Thanks.

You a a sweetheart and a very smart young lady. Builders should have thought of these helpful ideas years ago!
Thank you. I will build everything handicap accessible from now on. There were a few things that made it a little more challenging but nothing that was a big deal. Totally worth it!
Your smile is huge but your heart is huge!
Wow great! ❤ I care for my 95 year old dad. It's would be great to have a place like this.

Would it have cost more (vs the interior attic slide down stairs in the bedroom ceiling) to make exterior stairs and door to the second floor storage area where your RUclips clothes are?
I’m not sure. I didn’t process that. I would have rather had it inside though
You did such a great job! Thank you for sharing this. You did such a wonderful job selecting finishes and decorating. SO beautiful!

It really is so difficult to find places that are accessible and the cost of apartments is insane

You could certainly do it for cheaper. I had a few things a splurged on like the stairs, fireplaces, hardware, etc.
@@MousyLeighThank you so very much for your quick response!! I appreciate you sharing this with us!
This is amazing. Now, what jeans are you wearing? Love them, they look fantastic.
Love
That is so nice! Great job. What’s the ballpark price if I may ask?
Thank you. In my low cost of living area it was $184,000 not including land. I splurged on a few things so it could be done a little cheaper.
I’ve been looking at the magic stairs for a few years. I know they are based in Florida. How did you find an installer near you. I couldn’t find a list on their website.
My contractor did it. They shipped it and he installed them. He said it wasn’t too bad to install. Most contractors can do it
This is awesome! Where can we find the house plan?
May I ask for the house plans? I’m obsessed!
Thanks. I can probably get you in touch with the lady who drew them for me. Email me if you are interested. Mousyleigh@gmail.com
PS - what cabinet brand do you have for bedroom and kitchen?... Beautiful!!!!
Thanks. They are custom from a local cabinet maker
My builder said custom is about the same price as buying them from big box stores
Ugghhhh I Love love love those jeans on You!!! Are they still available to buy at all? What brand are they? Or style if I have to search ebay?❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤
I’d say put grab bars in all homes. While going through chemo earlier this year, I was very weak and unstable . I really would have been safer with grab bars in the bathroom.
I agree. When I remodel my bathrooms I will have them
May I ask how much $ the attic stairs were? I am considering for my home... thank you!!!!
I don’t remember the exact price and there are different options but somewhere around $3,500
800 sf
$184,000 low cost area, not including land
$230/sf
