A short review - one of the best fantasy game series i have ever.. played... The characters.. the combat mechanics.. the missions.. everything.. about the game.. was spot on.
Holy shit, the nemesis system where they actually REMEMBER killing you, and the fact that you can manipulate their chain of command is fucking amazing. Bravo, never seen anything like it before!
Also that if you get killed by literally the most random orc ever they can keep getting promotions. Basicly 1 simple orc can turn into a powerfull warchief if you fail at killin him alot of times. It's pretty interesting and nice to see that developer's can still make new and unique things.
As of 2022 the gameplay is still satisfying and it's definitely on par with recent titles, the world and character models unfortunately doesn't hold up, especially the environments looking like 2012 japanese mmorpg with very wide areas with no discerning characteristics
This is one of the few games in recent years which didn't disappoint me. Watch dogs, AC black flag, Titanfall, Cod ghosts, Far cry 4, Battlefield hardline... All are unfinished messes of half-made mechanics. Shadow of mordor and lords of the fallen look like the saviours of this year.
Hardline and farcry 4 aren't even out. You can say you were dissapointed with the battlefield beta or the farcry 4 trailer but saying its dissapointing before the product is out doesn't make any sense
This was a great game and all, but the last mission was a bit disappointing in my opinion. I was hoping for some epic boss fight with Sauron. Instead it's just some QTE's
That is exactly what I thought! I also thought that the fact that Talion still lived after the campaign was kinda dumb because that would mean that he could still live in the lotr time line
hulkman245 it's a lot of fun, but i would wait till it gets reduced in price. there's not much replayability, but i had a LOT of fun and just recently 100%ed it. combat is very arkham like and great.
Every game that Troy Baker does a voice over for seems to always get a high score and is a good game examples The Last of Us , InFamous Second Son , Bioshock Infinite , Guild Wars 2 , Darksiders 2 , and the list goes on and on and on and on.....
Woah, woah, woah, he voice acted someone in dakrsiders 2??? Holy smokes, how come I didn't recognize him? Who did he "voice-act"? I don't thin Death, 'cause, well, Death was voice-acted by the fella who played the bad guy in The Crow right?
I love the Nemesis system. It's pretty cool. My only beef with it is that should you be unlucky enough to lose to the same Uruk more than once, he can get ridiculously difficult to kill. It only happened to me once, since honestly the game isn't all that hard, but man it was a pain. When they win their strengths increase while their vulnerabilities decrease. My one problem child was an orc who wound up beating me twice, and became impervious to basically anything but fire. Which means fire arrows are off the table as well cuz it's a ranged attack. You can hurt him with normal strikes, but since you can't parry or do an overhead dodge it's basically a recipe for a quick death if you've got any other orcs around. Your only hope is to lure him into an area with enough fire and barrels to blow up in order to get him into the green and grab him. Frustrating.
got the game cheap a few months ago. the combat (gameplays.exe) felt really good and it was fun to go around slaughtering orcs n shit. but just like assassins creed that got old quick and the story was so uninspired i couldn't finish it. if the atmosphere was more like p.jacksons trilogy (darker vibes, actual enemy variation like they had in the old ps2 games, environment variation - maybe some cities to go through and do shit/defend). just felt like there was no point to anything and the environment/lighting was monotone af. felt like i was in the exact same area the whole time. oh and heres a troll or two 9.3/10 IGN.
I got it pre ordered im so addicted to destiny but i want this game wicked bad as well. Im in the mood for some hack and slash been playing tons of shooters im ready for an hack an slash game.
Is IT ME or there is something Seriously FISHY about this Review I mean DESTINY SUCKS ASSS but its not like IGN Reviews a Game Before it gets Released :/ and How can it Get a 9.3 when they Reviewed it for an Uninteresting Campaign in the Cons!!?
I'm showing this video to recommend to my little brother since it's currently in sale on pstore lol I tell him it's assassin's creed+batman while kind of looking at Ned Stark (borimir) lol
Played this one for the first time in 2021...still a great game and honestly, you would never guess that the graphics were seven years old. Really looking forward to playing the sequel.
I looked at the review AFTER beating the game. Saved me the spoilers. Took me three days to finish the story and brand all captains and war chefs in the second land/part. Still gotta wrap up some loose ends like collectibles and tedious tests of skill. All in all once I finished the game you get a sense of the randomly generated personalities. They loop from time to time.
Started playing this a few days ago and love it. A little overwhelming at the start but once you have done a few of the main missions you pick it up pretty easy and can take on swarms of enemies. My advice is just try to do the main missions first and make sure to get intel on the captains so you can kill them easy
_So this game takes the parkour & eagle vision from AC, the combat from Batman & AC, and the cyclops kills from God of War. How exactly is this deserving of anything above a 9 when it rips off so many other games to the T?_
Well it doesnt straight up rip off things, it takes other games elements and gels them together for an amazing experience. An example of this done poorly is destiny, the random number generation system for loot drops from mmo's is really executed poorly.
Almost every FPS is almost exactly the same in mechanics. This plays it safe by refining/perfecting a successful mechanic but the nemesis system is completely original and one of the most innovative things we've seen in a long time.
Why do people keep on saying "This game is a ripoff it's copying a bunch of games" why don't people think that's a bad thing it's combining experiences jeez kids these days
oh wow what a turn around everyone thinking destiny would have been a 10/10 game with noone really caring about this game thinking it would be a 4/10 game when in reality destiny is shit but with this game everyone i trust is giving this a 9+ (no i dont trust IGN reviews btw)
According to IGN, Shadow of Mordor has an unexciting campaign yet they literally gushed over the campaign enemies and mechanics for 5 minutes. Make up your mind already.
I liked the fact that the combat was hard at first when you started the game, but overtime i felt like my character was getting more powerful and instead of the game getting harder it got easier.
the one orc that just wouldn't die, Uggu Black-blade I love how every captain is different with the random generator combining their class, skin color, face, voice, personality, skills, and armor
the next gen version is wayyyy better then last gen, the visuals, graphics, fighting, and mechanics overall is awesome! the last gen lags a lot and the graphics are cheesy
"its a rip off, its got this and that and this and that" what do you think most games you play are ? they take game mechanics and tweak them to their own. sometimes we get a rare gem that brings something new. so instead of bitching about what it has that other games has is finding out the most important thing, IS IT FUN?
WOW, a review that comes out many days before its release, cant remember last time this happened. A very BIG SURPRISE lol. Modor will clean off my dissapoint with Destiny, have more credit to get Modor cheaper! :P
I remember when last of us reviews came out like 2 weeks early to build up hype...... now its all about delaying the reviews so the pour saps that get a game day one are completely ripped off if its a shitty game
k skinox no they reviewed The Last of Us early because there was no embargo and they felt they had a solid game. Same with Forza, but just because a studio has a, review embargo doesn't mean it's a bad game but it's definitely worth taking notice and just be sure of what your purchasing.
Well, I wasn't planning on picking this game up but now it looks like I'm going to have to. Huge shock to see such a great score, was expecting somewhere around 7-8.
Looks like I made the right choice in pre-ordering this game. I'm kinda disappointed to hear the game is only around 20+ hours. I was hoping for more from a new gen RPG, but for now, I'll take what I can get until Dragon Age and Witcher
Guys, I didn't understand one thing about the review. Is the PS4 version not good as the XBOX ONE? The talked about flood or something. Can you help understand It? Thank you.
Thank you for this review. My closest friend, for my 14th birthday this July, is getting me this game and I'm gonna play this for my RUclips channel. Cannot wait. Hope it beats Skyrim because Skyrim was one of the best video games I've ever played in my life.
I have a digital copy of this game for my XBOX ONE and I have the Season Pass. I have unlocked 75/76 achievements (1630/1680 gamerscore) for it . Money well spent...
EVERYBODY who is even remotely interested in this game needs to buy and support it imo and here's why; Read it, you'll thank me later ;) This is the intro section of Kotaku's Shadow of Mordor review, which is btw one of the best reviews i have ever read, written by Yannick LeJacq. "Lugdash Broken-Shield. Now there was a tricky orc to assassinate. Until I discovered he was scared of fire. Once I set his minions ablaze, Lugdash dropped everything and fled. I wasn't going to lose the kill, so I chased after him. We both ended up running for a long, long time. I chased Lugdash out of the rusty metal fortress he'd laid claim to as one of the elite warchiefs in that region of Mordor. We sprinted up a verdant hill, Talion's dark blue cape billowing behind him. He dodged his way through the small orc encampments peppered across Mordor's lush yet barren landscape. I tumbled into muddy ditches and crawled feverishly up moldy ladders in pursuit. We skirted around stone ruins, past vicious, lion-like mountain beasts known as caragors. Other characters gave us passing glances. Some even tried to attack us. We blew past all of them. 2 I wasn't quite fast enough to catch him. But I wasn't slow enough to lose him, either. The chase went on. And on. And...on. I started to wonder if I should give up, reload Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and try again. But I'd been trying to kill Lugdash for a while at that point. Every time I met him face-to-face in his stronghold, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of henchmen and lesser orcs he had at his disposal. And every time I died, Lugdash would become more powerful-as would his bodyguards and whoever happened to land the killing blow. The next time our blades met, then, Lugdash would sneer and remind me of how awkwardly I'd stumbled during our last fight. This made the first step of just infiltrating his stronghold harder every time, and the sting of failure more embarrassing in turn. Now, I finally had Lugdash on his own-away from his pesky underlings and anything else that could stand between us. I needed this kill. And there it was, so close to me. But he was still sprinting away. So I kept running too. The heat of battle gave way to a palpable silence. I eventually caught Lugdash because, in his terrified state, he ran straight into a cave on one side of Shadow of Mordor's first map. Ohhhhh, I sighed, tensing my shoulders. I've got you now, you little piece of shit. 3 You should've heard how Lugdash and his orc bros were teasing me a few minutes ago. He deserves this, for all those times he wouldn't let me forget how I royally fucked up and ended up with an axe (or several) sticking out of my head. Now, it was my turn. I took a few swipes at Lugdash, knocking him to the ground. He struggled to get back up before sprinting in the other direction. But I had him. I kept hitting him, and hitting him, until finally he stumbled and stopped trying to get back up. His body heaving as he gasped for breath, my character strode over and pulled him into a kneeling position for one last killing blow. But Lugdash still had one last word he just had to get in. "Is any of this going to bring your family back?" the orc asked. One final twist of the screws, to get my blood pumping all over again. A moment later, his decapitated head was spinning in mid-air, soupy globs of black blood swirling around in slow motion. I'd achieved something, right then and there. But I didn't feel triumphant. There were still a lot more orcs and uruk-hai outside of that cave, just waiting for me to slip up and reveal a weak spot they could exploit. I had to do something else, something bigger, to show all of them who's boss. I had to keep trying. I strode out of the cave feeling restless enough that I attacked the next group of uruk-hai I came across. Things were going well, until a small pack of caragor showed up and started chomping on all of us. We all scattered in different directions. The commotion attracted the attention of another group of orcs nearby. My health precariously low and the entire situation officially out of my control, I decided to make a run for it. Before I could, the camera swung around to center on a massive oaf of an orc who'd decided to show up. "Is this a bad time?" he asked. Well, yes, I wanted to say. Yes it is, Mister Giant Ugly Orc With An Unpronounceable Name. But I didn't say that, and I wouldn't have even if there was some way to make Talion kvetch in Shadow of Mordor. The challenge had been laid down. It was time for another fight."
I do agree with IGN that this game is amazing, however, its a little weird to me that it got the same score as the Witcher 3. In my opinion, the Witcher 3 is a 10/10 and this is a 7/10.
Just because the witcher 3 got a 10 doesnt meant that every other game should be marked down. Shadow of mordors gameplay is much better than the witchers. The witcher just excells in story and graphics
EuroTrasho Productions i am playing it in full 4k uhd, and on ultra settings, and its running incredibly smoothly on my pc, which is the Lenovo y50-70 uhd, with 16 gigs ram and an nvidia 960m with 4gb ram... get it for pc if you can, its much more fun
This game was not on my radar at all but after all the positive reviews its a day one buy for me. Yes I can admit that reviews do sway my decision somewhat. Anyway game looks dope and I can't wait to play it. Does anybody know when it comes out?
Try Horizor Zero Dawn and Days Gone. Those games have incredible fighting system. HZD has a boring story and I just skipped dialogues while DG's sgoryline wasn't that bad.
I think I'll pick it up as well :D This is awesome, usually I spoil the game for myself before it comes out but since I've heard nothing about this game I'm so hyped to play it!
My main issue with this game: It's too fucking easy. If you played the batman games the combat is instantly familiar. The nemesis system is brilliant and I love every bit of it, but unfortunately, it only really shines when your enemies actually survive their encounters with you. There is no "nemesis" if you kill them all on the first encounter. What's the point of all this branding and planning if I can just as easily storm the fucking gates and kill everything in sight with no real risk considering that I can just run off and regain full health at some plant. I have to handicap myself to enjoy the warchiefs and stuff, if you actually brand bodyguards and shit this game is a fucking cakewalk.
That's the problem with all of the more recent games. There is no real challenge. It would be so much more fun if you would have to actually be dependent on stealth as opposed to it being merely an option. Although, if you compare it with AC series or sth similar, this game isn't that easy, but it still kinda is
Your logic is flawed. well since unity came came out AC is kinda what u said, u actually are dependent to use stealth instead of going rambo style since they changed the combat system. Even fighting 10 soldiers in unity is hard now.
SuperNaruto238 It's very, very good. Not perfect, but it's the extremely fun. Plus, if you think it's easy, you can set your own challenges to make the game more difficult, like no branding, or turning off parry prompts.
Also, as much as I love the Nemesis system, it kind of covers up for a relative lack of depth in the game. Don't get me wrong here. I've really been enjoying playing it. However, if it didn't have the Nemesis system, there wouldn't really be all that much to it. It kind of props the game up and makes things interesting.
I don't get why this game isn't getting that much attention by most gamers when the reviews are extremely good. Someone explain please? I've never seen or played anything about LoTR, should that deter me?
ChrisMetal_Covers You don't really need to know anything about LoTR. I myself thought you had to watch/read them to understand the game so about three months before the game came out I saw tge whol LoTR trilogy and I got so into them that I started watching the Hobbit!
Well it's because the developers haven't even touched the books and are solely based on the movies so it doesn't grab our attention much when those lazy fucks are interested more in fast-paced movies rather than in thoroughly written and developed books.
Currently going through the game. I wouldn't say it was worthy of a 9.3 score. Its very repetitive but thankfully the map(s) are small enough that even on foot its not horrible to traverse. Graphics wise it would have looked superb on PS3/360, but on PS4 it looks a little simple. Though the Warchief/Captain speech scenes look very detailed. This only my third PS4 game though, so I can only judge the look against GTAV and The Order 1886. Combat is nice but very limited when it comes to melee combat, but then again I don't suppose there's much you can do with a sword. I have the GOTY version and got it brand new for £15, so I could score it 7/10 from what I've played so far (on the second map and 14 missions in after doing all collectables and most of the weapon challenges). Speaking of the collectables and challenges and such. I think its great that the items are revealed in game rather than having to keep leaving the game to go check a PC video guide. I miss that in games and its a great feature in this game.
I kept hearing the comparison to Batman games, but I'm no fan of Batman. If i liked games like The Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition will i like this game?
I think Shadow of Mordor is tremendously ahead in the combat department than those two games... combined. Don't be mistaken, however, SoM is an action game through and through... and it is an absolute delight! Certainly worth the price of admission and for an addictive experience for a month or so :)
It has far better combat than W3 and very different combat compared to DA. It also has a much worse story/quests than both games (although it was interesting enough for an old Tolkien fun like me). It is not an rpg so you can't really compare it though. Batman is a better comparison and I'd say batman and this are about equal. Which one you like the most depends on which setting you like.
The game is pretty cool but if you're a fan of the books you're going to find some aspects of the story and the script laughable. Imo it would have been way better if they just had an original fantasy story instead of halfheartedly mooching off LOTR. But the gameplay is pretty fun.
What did they do that was laughable hmm, an elf becoming a wraith, OHHH SHIT LORE BREAKING RIGHT DERE!!!, seriously the game expands on the lore, doesnt destroy any of it or make any of it laughable
Golden Rush just that some parts of the script are lifted from the book or movies and recycled (a fact that always makes me chuckle), also some of the names (an area where jrrt excelled imo and one of my personal fav aspects of lotr) are pretty lame, the elf and man being a wraith, the fact they've kinda made the main character to sound like sean bean's boromir just coz he is a man of gondor, using 'ranger' in the wrong context when 'ranger' in lotr lore is pretty much synonymous with the dunedins and not the men of gondor and other things. But like ive said these are things that only matter to lotr fans who always expect excellence in terms of every aspect of a story.
darkangelzephyron If I remember correctly (but I'm not sure) there are Ithilien rangers and Dunedain rangers. Aragorn is a Dunedain ranger. Faramir is an Ithilen ranger. I believe the main character in the story is an Ithilien ranger as well.
Ates Goksu yep there are rangers of ithilien that can sometimes be called angers of Gondor but Talion's heritage and appearance is not in accordance with them. I think the makers of the game just put together the characters of Aragorn and Boromir and came up with him. And another part that was lifted from the story that i forgot to mention: his son's broken sword that totally doesn't look like Narsil. Lol.
darkangelzephyron The broken sword gets reforged into a dagger, and besides, the game is more based on movies, where Aragorn never even wielded broken Narsil
Unexciting campaign? That seems like a large part of the game. This whole game looks pretty generic and boring honestly, I'm really really surprised that it got a 9.3. Really disappointing from the looks at it, but if the review is honest maybe just watching it is boring.
The combat has borrowed a lot from other games, though it still looks good, but the nemesis system is probably the most innovative thing we've seen in years. Generic is being a bit unfair.
matt4045 may be kind of simple this nemesis system apart from all the lines of dialogue they've created and that kind of stuff , but this may be turning the tide for ai and future games, imagine this system perfected and in other stuff , this game is freaking awesome
I'm sorry but for those of you who are bashing this game because it ripped of other games are complete morons & don't know how the video game world works. COD Advanced Warfare rips off Titanfall Playstation all stars rips of Super Smash Bros Amazing Spider Man 2 rips off Arkham Destiny Rips off Halo big time your comment is there for invalid, can't wait to get Shadow of Morder!
Can we all stop bitching? Games copy other games' stuff. Would we have any FPS/RPG/Sandbox games if games didn't copy other games? You can all be like, ''destiny ripped off halo'' or ''Cod ripped off Crysis'' but EVERY FPS ripped off DOOM basicly. So there you go, fanboy wars are over.
This is actually a great review because I feel the exact same way they give you plenty to do in the game and I definitely feel like 60 bucks was worth it the map size isn't bad at all either the upgrade system is actually very very very rewarding to I'm not even a Lord of the Rings fan and I enjoy this very much
who's here because they are debating if they wanna buy it for $4 on xbox one?? There is no debate.. easily worth $29.99 and you get a lot for the price.. highly recommended

The simple mechanical control of this game is so much fun, it’s like I’m enjoying pressing the buttons. The actual game is awesome too.
As of 2022 the gameplay is still satisfying and it's definitely on par with recent titles, the world and character models unfortunately doesn't hold up, especially the environments looking like 2012 japanese mmorpg with very wide areas with no discerning characteristics
Having picked it up after replaying arkham asylum/city didn't wanna jump atr8 to knight just yet picked this up for $5 goty worth it .....
Stop being such a critic. It holds up just as well to current games and the graphics are just as lovely.
It's for $5 on the US PS store right now.
Lol that's why I'm here 🤣
victor Vallejano same lmao
I know right 🥳
I just bought it for 8 bucks at Eb games ...I know nothing about it

UnkeptMoss328 Not COD... 9.10/10
+UnkeptMoss328 They gave it a 9.3...
Is that bad in your opinion?
This is one of the few games in recent years which didn't disappoint me.
Watch dogs, AC black flag, Titanfall, Cod ghosts, Far cry 4, Battlefield hardline... All are unfinished messes of half-made mechanics.
Shadow of mordor and lords of the fallen look like the saviours of this year.
Agreed, except that I really liked AC Black Flag. It was by far the best AC game since AC II.
far cry 4 isnt out yet genius how can you say it sucks if you cant even play it?
This guy is a full on troll
WastelandPatriot Because it is the exact same as Far cry 3. Like I said, an unfinished mess.
I was also very disappointed with the fight with the hand.
That is exactly what I thought! I also thought that the fact that Talion still lived after the campaign was kinda dumb because that would mean that he could still live in the lotr time line
gokulauri Maybe he lived because shadow of mordor 2
Was it great? Didnt you get bored at some point? Or is it repetetive? Because i am thinking of buying this game but i am hesitant
hulkman245 it's a lot of fun, but i would wait till it gets reduced in price. there's not much replayability, but i had a LOT of fun and just recently 100%ed it. combat is very arkham like and great.
Every game that Troy Baker does a voice over for seems to always get a high score and is a good game examples The Last of Us , InFamous Second Son , Bioshock Infinite , Guild Wars 2 , Darksiders 2 , and the list goes on and on and on and on.....
And Shadow of Mordor of course
The crew got 6/10 which has troy baker as the main voice
Woah, woah, woah, he voice acted someone in dakrsiders 2??? Holy smokes, how come I didn't recognize him? Who did he "voice-act"? I don't thin Death, 'cause, well, Death was voice-acted by the fella who played the bad guy in The Crow right?
Sorry for the really late reply , He voiced Draven in Darksiders 2
Pagan Min in Far Cry 4.
It's addicting as every battle scene feels unique in how you statagize. I recommend it. The soul steel feature and using beast to fight is awesome
Basically you play as grown up parallel universe Kenny from South Park. :D
Yes high on cheezing cat pie lol
"unexciting campaign". isn't that basically the whole game lol? how does it get a 9.3 if the story isn't great?
got the game cheap a few months ago. the combat (gameplays.exe) felt really good and it was fun to go around slaughtering orcs n shit. but just like assassins creed that got old quick and the story was so uninspired i couldn't finish it. if the atmosphere was more like p.jacksons trilogy (darker vibes, actual enemy variation like they had in the old ps2 games, environment variation - maybe some cities to go through and do shit/defend). just felt like there was no point to anything and the environment/lighting was monotone af. felt like i was in the exact same area the whole time. oh and heres a troll or two 9.3/10 IGN.
EXACTLYYYYYYYYYYYYY dude. I'v been saying this for months now and all the Shadow of Mordor fans boys argue about it to me
@@Canuckcancanuck I just love the nemesis system
They give this game a 9.3 with a bad story and they give Infamous SS an 8.7 for a bad story.. IGN logic.
bitch this was awsome stfu u scrub
Soul Mahajan Except graphics there's nothing new about games in general lolol. Nice shot at logic though, guy.
W and E are really really close!!
wow this seems like a surprise hit.. i always thought this would get a 8.0 but pretty much every reviewer is giving it a 9+.. will have to get it :)
***** doesn't gamespot give everything an 8? lol
gamespot gave Last of us 8 too lol
I got it pre ordered im so addicted to destiny but i want this game wicked bad as well. Im in the mood for some hack and slash been playing tons of shooters im ready for an hack an slash game.
jesse dupere ia played destiny for a week than back to killzone shadowfall multiplayer lol..destiny got too boring after i hit 20
$9.99 Game of the Year Edition on Steam at the moment (Halloween Sale).
how this game even earned a "game of the year" title is beyond me
Just downloaded it for free but thanks anyways :P
Nathan Morrison cause it's awesome
I just bought the Game of the Year Edition for the same price on the PS4
Karen 3 $ on PC ;)
superb combat system. extremely responsive, random and fun. one of the best combat feels out there.
Am I the only one who is watching this in 2019?
AAAYYY
to bad you can only get this game through psn now on the PlayStation store
Ahoy mate, from 4019 :)
Aye mate u r not alone
I'm showing this video to recommend to my little brother since it's currently in sale on pstore lol
I tell him it's assassin's creed+batman while kind of looking at Ned Stark (borimir) lol
Rye Guy nah. . You can get it through game pass on Xbox One
Played this one for the first time in 2021...still a great game and honestly, you would never guess that the graphics were seven years old. Really looking forward to playing the sequel.
The sequel is like the first 1 going super Saiyan
It is 2020 and I'm just now starting Shadow of Mordor 😂😂😂.
Not only that but just getting back on my Xbox in years
Same man - just bought it yesterday cause it was on sale on the Xbox store for $6 - always wanted to play it and really enjoying it so far
Same
Definitely still worth playing. I originally played this back in ‘14 and just now finished the sequel, which was also excellent.
Damar Fadlan I did
A game Wii U owners will never have. LOL.
I have the PS4 as well as the WiiU so yeah
That's fine, the last assassins creed game wasn't that good so they didn't want this one anyways 😉
But this game is actually getting rave reviews. It came literally out of nowhere, but they're actually saying this game is GOOD.
COUNT VLAIDMIR well I might actually want to get it then on the PS4
Scratch that, should've said "Wii U only owners who don't want to buy a PC or another current gen console system"
this review is full of spoilers!!!
I just finished it and I'm watching the credits now, wondering how a final mission can be so easy...
Do i have to know about Lord of the Rings in order to understand the story? Or can i just play it with out knowing anything.
Started playing this a few days ago and love it. A little overwhelming at the start but once you have done a few of the main missions you pick it up pretty easy and can take on swarms of enemies. My advice is just try to do the main missions first and make sure to get intel on the captains so you can kill them easy
who else is here after watching middle-earth:shadow of war trailer?
Me too
What an incredible series!!!!! Really want a third!!!
T___T. are you high? or did you just not watch the video?
Almost every FPS is almost exactly the same in mechanics.
This plays it safe by refining/perfecting a successful mechanic but the nemesis system is completely original and one of the most innovative things we've seen in a long time.
Yeah like I already said to somebody else....What video game now doesn't "Rip Off" any other game?
ClassicGameFire
Destiny imo is a fancy, realistic and hella lot less funny version of Borderlands.minus the awesomeness.or the variety.
Warning: This video starts with some pretty major spoilers.
Why do people keep on saying "This game is a ripoff it's copying a bunch of games" why don't people think that's a bad thing it's combining experiences jeez kids these days
Because people have nothing else to bitch about so they have to come up with something lol
oh wow what a turn around everyone thinking destiny would have been a 10/10 game with noone really caring about this game thinking it would be a 4/10 game when in reality destiny is shit but with this game everyone i trust is giving this a 9+ (no i dont trust IGN reviews btw)
According to IGN, Shadow of Mordor has an unexciting campaign yet they literally gushed over the campaign enemies and mechanics for 5 minutes. Make up your mind already.
theEpicDragoon001 thats why u should never trust ign reviews try places like the escapist, angry joe and total biscuit
SamuelMcCloud They were not the only one who gave this game 8,5+
Kaloyan Vasilov what? i sed that lol
SamuelMcCloud Sorry i didnt noticed :)
I liked the fact that the combat was hard at first when you started the game, but overtime i felt like my character was getting more powerful and instead of the game getting harder it got easier.
Jmbing Binger If you think this game is hard then you probably think Candy Crush is hard too. Play Dark Souls you green casual consumer.
Emanuel Stenberg shut up darksouls fanboy.

The ideal games scale difficulty with your level/ability gain so you are never able to 100% clear deck
But I’m sure on a harder difficulty than the review was played on would allow that to happen
the one orc that just wouldn't die, Uggu Black-blade
I love how every captain is different with the random generator combining their class, skin color, face, voice, personality, skills, and armor
Wish they do a second one were you could play as Aragorn.
IGN has NEVER posted an honest review. They’re the CNN of games.
LOL
Such a good game! I'm so obsessed with killing all of the Uruks, I forget there is even a story mode.
the next gen version is wayyyy better then last gen, the visuals, graphics, fighting, and mechanics overall is awesome! the last gen lags a lot and the graphics are cheesy
The Ps3 version was almost unplayable. The difference to the Ps4 version was ridiculous
+andyboo23 I agree
Last gen's loading screens are ridiculously long.
The xbox one doesn't play at 1440p lmfao
"its a rip off, its got this and that and this and that"
what do you think most games you play are ? they take game mechanics and tweak them to their own. sometimes we get a rare gem that brings something new.
so instead of bitching about what it has that other games has is finding out the most important thing, IS IT FUN?
Ironically this is among the most original games we've seen in a long time.
Ya I mean look at Sunset Overdrive that's taking from a huge number of games but shadows of Mordor has a lot going for it
matt4045
well when it comes to gaming, never expect them to re-invent the wheel
The nemesis system sure sounds like innovation to me.
andy mutch Such as..?
WOW, a review that comes out many days before its release, cant remember last time this happened. A very BIG SURPRISE lol.
Modor will clean off my dissapoint with Destiny, have more credit to get Modor cheaper! :P
it comes out in 4 days
I remember when last of us reviews came out like 2 weeks early to build up hype...... now its all about delaying the reviews so the pour saps that get a game day one are completely ripped off if its a shitty game
Lol, they only review the last of us early, Because the release date was the same day of the first day of E3 not for hype.
Forza Horizon 2 had reviews out 5 days early. Its coming out this September 30th.
k skinox no they reviewed The Last of Us early because there was no embargo and they felt they had a solid game. Same with Forza, but just because a studio has a, review embargo doesn't mean it's a bad game but it's definitely worth taking notice and just be sure of what your purchasing.
Seeing this gets me excited for how the Wonder Woman game will be in terms of combat
Orcs have never been more relatable than the ones found in Mordor.
They're not just any meat to slice. They're a meat with personality.
"I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my King."
I actually liked the campaign as it links in with Lord of the rings and the hobbit really nicely and can't wait for a sequel to this game
I have a digital copy of this game for my XBOX ONE and I have the Season Pass. I have unlocked 75/76 achievements (1630/1680 gamerscore) for it . Money well spent...
EVERYBODY who is even remotely interested in this game needs to buy and support it imo and here's why; Read it, you'll thank me later ;)
This is the intro section of Kotaku's Shadow of Mordor review, which is btw one of the best reviews i have ever read, written by Yannick LeJacq.
I wasn't quite fast enough to catch him.
You should've heard how Lugdash and his orc bros were teasing me a few minutes ago.
Nobody likes IGN, but this is the best Lord of The Rings game ever made.
This and forza horizon 2 are a great way to start October :)
This Game is absolutely Awesome... Dope graphics an wicked Sick kills!!!
My biggest thing is there is no diversity in the enemies. And the scenery looks the same no matter where you travel.
I know its 2019 and Im just now playing this game but why do you have to spoil it in the first minute of the review??
Batman + Assassins Creed + The Witcher = Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor
Sold! Take my money now!
I do agree with IGN that this game is amazing, however, its a little weird to me that it got the same score as the Witcher 3. In my opinion, the Witcher 3 is a 10/10 and this is a 7/10.
I agree but I think what they mean here is what it does so well
That's true. After all, I shouldn't be so comparative about games that are really different.
+lippy896 Witcher 3 is better but this game is still great. I would give an 8 atleast.
+Timmy MUFC interesting
Just because the witcher 3 got a 10 doesnt meant that every other game should be marked down. Shadow of mordors gameplay is much better than the witchers. The witcher just excells in story and graphics

Hayden C Finally!! Someone who agrees.
Hayden C No. Just no. Watchdogs is the most overhyped game ever xD
Mikroniix I dunno man Destiny was hyped as shit. There were ads everywhere and people wouldn't stop talking about it prior to it's release.
Same with Watchdogs and then it was even more depressing. I guess they're pretty close.
Mikroniix Yep I can agree with that.
Can't decide on what console to get it on - any difference between the Xbox One and PS4 versions?
Not really I have it on the xb1 and it's great
EuroTrasho Productions i am playing it in full 4k uhd, and on ultra settings, and its running incredibly smoothly on my pc, which is the Lenovo y50-70 uhd, with 16 gigs ram and an nvidia 960m with 4gb ram... get it for pc if you can, its much more fun

You must have played 2 games you're entire life
Try Horizor Zero Dawn and Days Gone. Those games have incredible fighting system. HZD has a boring story and I just skipped dialogues while DG's sgoryline wasn't that bad.
Hello
Played a lot of Xbox One/PS4 games, and this is definitely one of the games that you must play.
Man of Reason skyrim 👍
Man of Reason m
Speaking of Batman, Monolith just announced a goddamn Wonder Woman game. Imagine this game's mechanics applied to that.
Wow a 9.3 thats freaking amazing i barely even heard anything about this game let alone what i it was about im am so picking this game up next week
I know right this game had little to no hype but is turning out to be an amazing game
I think I'll pick it up as well :D This is awesome, usually I spoil the game for myself before it comes out but since I've heard nothing about this game I'm so hyped to play it!
Keep in mind who is reviewing it. The worst of the IGN editors. I would wait till it hits meta critic to judge. That's just me
ClassicGameFire That's it basicly. If a game has no hype it's mostly better than games with ALOT of hype. Take Destiny for example.
You can make the game much more difficult for yourself, though I do agree the game starts pretty easy.
***** is it good I've been waiting for the price to go down its $25 right now on ps store instead of $51
SuperNaruto238 It's very, very good. Not perfect, but it's the extremely fun. Plus, if you think it's easy, you can set your own challenges to make the game more difficult, like no branding, or turning off parry prompts.
Watching the review after finishing the game in 2024
Also, as much as I love the Nemesis system, it kind of covers up for a relative lack of depth in the game. Don't get me wrong here. I've really been enjoying playing it. However, if it didn't have the Nemesis system, there wouldn't really be all that much to it. It kind of props the game up and makes things interesting.
Playing this right now and it's AMAZING! Got it for free with the PS4, didn't think I'd be into it, but damn am I glad I'm playing it.
So AWSOME have fun dude
I still play this game all the time today. Beautiful game.
I don't get why this game isn't getting that much attention by most gamers when the reviews are extremely good. Someone explain please? I've never seen or played anything about LoTR, should that deter me?
I have no clue about LOTR either but I'm enjoying it
ChrisMetal_Covers You don't really need to know anything about LoTR. I myself thought you had to watch/read them to understand the game so about three months before the game came out I saw tge whol LoTR trilogy and I got so into them that I started watching the Hobbit!
I've read the books and watched the movies, and I can tell you after playing it for a while, there is nothing in common with the books.
Rob Ford totally worth it though im sure!
3:40 Uruk captains arent roaming in real time? thats an awfull lie to say IGN

One of the best games I've played and owned. Can't wait for part 2
Unexciting campaign? That seems like a large part of the game. This whole game looks pretty generic and boring honestly, I'm really really surprised that it got a 9.3. Really disappointing from the looks at it, but if the review is honest maybe just watching it is boring.
He said unexciting campaign missions as in a few of the missions are boring.
The combat has borrowed a lot from other games, though it still looks good, but the nemesis system is probably the most innovative thing we've seen in years. Generic is being a bit unfair.
Play the game then judge.
matt4045 may be kind of simple this nemesis system apart from all the lines of dialogue they've created and that kind of stuff , but this may be turning the tide for ai and future games, imagine this system perfected and in other stuff , this game is freaking awesome
It doesn't matter if a game gets a great review or a bashing, someone in the RUclips comments section is always unhappy.
I'm sorry but for those of you who are bashing this game because it ripped of other games are complete morons & don't know how the video game world works.
COD Advanced Warfare rips off Titanfall
Playstation all stars rips of Super Smash Bros
Amazing Spider Man 2 rips off Arkham
Destiny Rips off Halo big time
your comment is there for invalid, can't wait to get Shadow of Morder!
destiny can't ripoff halo, you can't ripoff yourself
Xtemplate Technically you can, if it's meant to be a completely different game......
Cod AW was in production before Titanfall. And destiny is made by bungie who made halo
Aaron Ray CoD AW is a Crysis ripoff
Can we all stop bitching? Games copy other games' stuff. Would we have any FPS/RPG/Sandbox games if games didn't copy other games? You can all be like, ''destiny ripped off halo'' or ''Cod ripped off Crysis'' but EVERY FPS ripped off DOOM basicly. So there you go, fanboy wars are over.
"it makes decent use of gollum"
Hits harder when you see gollum in 2023 🤣🤣
If Batman actually killed, the fighting would feel very similar to this game
This is actually a great review because I feel the exact same way they give you plenty to do in the game and I definitely feel like 60 bucks was worth it the map size isn't bad at all either the upgrade system is actually very very very rewarding to I'm not even a Lord of the Rings fan and I enjoy this very much
who's here because they are debating if they wanna buy it for $4 on xbox one?? There is no debate.. easily worth $29.99 and you get a lot for the price.. highly recommended
That is exactly why i came THanks!
Bought this about an hour ago. The loading during the intro really took me out of the experience, but I have to say I'm enjoying it quite nicely.
6 years later and I'm playinh it for the first time
Same lol
I’m just buying it now
@@mikestamp1188 nice bro
@@gloomsouls thanks
Great game, one of the first next-gen titles that feels worthy!
"It's a Triple-A title, so it's at least a 9." - IGN
the captains actually do wander the world in real time. i have spotted them moving from camp to camp without being on any mission.
