      I’d never heard of Pete North or the Leave Alliance. So I just checked out the Leave Alliance website. And it seems your assertion that the organisation ‘’wanted to continue to be part of the Single Market, on a Norway model’’ is false. They actually advocated INITIALLY remaining in the single market after our withdrawal from the EU.
      In other words, they wanted the UK to remain in the single market for a short period after Brexit. That is not the same thing as adopting the Norway model, which is based on (long-term) membership of the EEA.
      In any case, as most people will have no idea who Pete North or the Leave Alliance are, their views are irrelevant. The vast majority of high-profile campaigners insisted that leaving the EU would also mean leaving the single market (and also the customs union).
      But in their wisdom, the majority of voters in the referendum opted for Leave anyway. They did so because they understood that leaving the EU but remaining in the single market (even if that was possible) would be disastrous for this country. It really would be the worst of all possible worlds.

    • @PhilosophyLines
      @PhilosophyLines 6 лет назад +2

      This tagline sums it up "Pete North is a founding member of The Leave Alliance, which is a network of pragmatic pro-single market leave campaigners and bloggers. The alliance wants to see the UK as part of the European Free Trade Association, taking a lead role in global multilateral trade." Seems pretty unambiguous to me. Pete North and the others at the Leave Alliance have plenty of essays on why leaving the EU and remaining in the single market would not be disastrous.
      inews.co.uk/news/politics/leave-alliance-conservative-mismanagement-brexit-may-cost-uk-future/
      What do you mean 'even if that was possible'? You are aware surely that there are several countries currently outside the EU but within the single market.
      twitter.com/PeteNorth303/status/934551172605796353
      Here's a representative tweet.
      peterjnorth.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/yes-single-market-sucks-heres-why-we.html
      Here's an essay arguing why, despite its faults, we should remain within the single market. As you can see, he doesn't want to just stay in 'for a short time' he wants to be a leading member of EFTA and actively shape the single market.
      Plenty of the longer term campaigners for Brexit are for remaining in the single market, and indeed those of the Leave Alliance mostly regard a WTO option as suicidal.
      None of what you said changes the basic facts that leaving the EU doesn't mean necessarily leaving the single market, and plenty of serious long term Brexit campaigners argue for remaining in single market.

    • @louiswalker5080
      @louiswalker5080 6 лет назад +2

      Philosophy Lines
      Regarding your first paragraph I would simply say: so what? The Leave Alliance is an obscure campaigning group that I doubt most people have ever heard of. If you believe that staying in the single market post-Brexit would be good for the UK, explain why. Please also explain why it wouldn’t be a betrayal of the referendum vote, when pretty much every opinion poll taken (eg the monthly Economist/Ipsos-MORI issues index) had put immigration as the number one concern of the British people...ahead of the NHS and the economy.
      But please use your own arguments, rather than regurgitating what the Leave Alliance says.
      Incidentally, I would have no problem with the UK joining EFTA as a non-EEA member. (Which is the Swiss approach). But you should be aware that EFTA countries are NOT members of the single market. Three of them (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) have conditional tariff-free access to the SM via their membership of the EEA. But they have no formal say in the rule-making of the single market and can only make representations to the EU. They are certainly in no position to ‘’actively shape the single market.’’
      Leaving the EU but remaining in the EEA would mean no end to free movement; continuing to hand over £10bn+ to the EU every year; more than half our laws still being decided by a foreign body that is not democratically accountable to the British people; having no say in the making of those laws, regardless of how damaging to UK interests they might be; and the continuing supremacy of a foreign court (the ECJ) over our own courts.
      Throw in continuing membership of the customs union and we could also forget signing free trade deals with the US, China, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and many of the world’s developing/high-growth/tiger economies. The EU’s share of global GDP is shrinking rapidly. It was 35% in1980, but had fallen to 17% by 2016. For the EU27 (ie, excluding the UK), it is just 13%. In a few short years it will drop below 10%. The European Commission recently had to admit that 90% of world growth will come from outside the EU by 2020. A divergence that will continue to grow going forward.
      Like I said, remaining in the single market and the customs union post-Brexit (and to repeat, even if that was possible) would be the worst of all worlds for this country. If you respond in your own words (as I’ve done), rather than sending links to people I’ve never heard of, I’ll get back to you. Otherwise, forget it.

      From what I've read, it's a myth that say Norway has no influence on the rules. However, I'd parroting Pete North again here, I don't pretend to understand it myself, I'd say I'd need to dedicate half a decade of full time study to get to that point. Dominic Cummings (who ran Vote Leave) himself says they only have one or two people who understand the single market, he doesn't claim to, and he says most MPs can't even define it. But if you're interested in an articulate case against your position from a leaver, I'd recommend Pete North's essays.
      The answer to 'so what?' is that people are portraying anyone who is for remaining in single market as 'Remoaners' or 'soft brexit = remain' which is nonsensical since several prominent Brexiteers such as Christopher Booker (who Peter Hitchens credits with some of the finest work setting up the ideological basis for Brexit, decades before opportunists like Boris jumped on the bandwagon) are pro-Single Market membership.

United Kingdom is among the top 5 most prosperous countries in he world. Why should we be intimidated by the eu cabal. We do not need them, they definitely need the UK & the huge amounts of money that we contribute to their fraudulent organisation. They have no regard or respect for the UK. Just look at how fair the British are. In Britain Got Talent, how even if someone with true talent comes from another country. They are treated fairly & possibly even win it. Conversely, the eurotrash song contest always ensures that England comes last or 2nd last! How can that be possible when the Worlds top singers/bands from all genres come from either USA or England. These blokes in the eu vote in cliques. If they can't be transparent & have a fair & square attitude in something as trivial as a song contest. How can we in Britain trust them as trade partners & friends. We be better off leaving the eu, no deal, no £39 billion, cut our loses. Close the door behind us, look to a bright & be masters of our own destiny, wellbeing, sovereign democracy & our very own Justice System.

      Her family ARE immigrants and she came to UK when she was 10yrs old from Guyana where her father Doodnauth Singh was attorney general. I will assume you think i am white from your vile little comment but let me assure you most black people are angered by her behaviour because like i said above it has fuelled racism against them.. She has cost the tax payers millions in a court case, even though she knew the government would still vote to initiate Brexit anyway, they would never go against over half the electorate.. She is now crowd funding and will waste other peoples money on something that will have no effect. Believe me she knows she has no chance of doing anything that will overturn the results of a legitimate legal election, the government knows the consequences and damage it would do to the british constitution and government of the UK and it would be unthinkable to them. Everyone with a brain cell knows what she is doing is to promote herself and her businesses, she will be paid for TV appearances, will no doubt write a book etc, ker-ching!!!! In my experience, most remainers are working class or lower middle class. They're worried about their jobs, they're worried about their rights, and they're worried about the economy. They're also worried about political degeneration in Europe. What they are NOT is a bunch of elites all cackling manically at the prospect of keeping their ill-gotten billions and kicking poor people in the face. It's the capitalists who don't give a shit about the poor, and Brexit is going to make it a hell of a lot easier to exploit workers. Trust me, Brexit or no Brexit, the true elite will be fine. The question is whether Brexit will make things worse or better for working people, and indeed for the world in general. My firm conviction is that it won't. I hope I'm wrong, but I really don't think so.

British judges are not even appointed by politicians in the UK, let alone voted for directly by the people. She's literally using a non-democratic system to undermine the most direct expression of democracy. She's relying on people's ignorance to not notice this, whilst parroting terms like democracy & transparency. It's just more double-speak from the globalist elite. She intends to use her wealth & the legal system to undermine the very democracy she professes to love. She clearly has contempt for the British people & their democratic choice. How dare the ignorant peasants negatively impact her interests. You have to admire her tenacity though. She must have a lot to lose from Brexit or a lot to gain from remaining in the EU.

      andy smerdon I live in a safe Labour seat, have felt abandoned for years by people calling themselves "Labour" and representing anybody but the working man. I had stopped voting until I heard Nigel Farage and I now vote Ukip. I would not p*** on a Mp (lab/con/lib natzi) if they were on fire.

    Knowing that Gina Miller is in the financial sector, I can only assume she used to sell junk bonds after switching from the cheaper end of the second hand car sales trade. If this woman told me it was a hot day I would put on warm clothes and boots before going out. She is just a typical flim flam con-person who will do and say anything to succeed irrespective of anyone's life she ruins on the way.

    Brexit mean British Exit. EXIT.
    We left it to the politicians for 47 years, that's why we were still in. Politicians did not give us the option to leave. No, I'm not trusting this to politicians again. We want out. Really out. Fully out. Out!

  • @Dave-si2im

    These people don't believe in referendums and it should be down to politician's.
    Yet we, the people, vote politician's in, supposedly, to carry out our will and they don't.
    Politician's make promises to us at election time so that we vote for them but often they go back on those promises!! That isn't democracy!
    We had a referendum, the people voted and now they want to undermine that vote. What is happening to our country and democracy!? When did we become Russia!

      Dave 983 They are mostly in remain areas and are representing what they think is best however I don't share that view. My MP supported a remain vote yet now is happy to leave (Damian Green) why should I support someone who wants to slash benefits and take away disabled cars and buses are being cut because able people are buying more cars clogging up roads and slowing down the journeys home.Plus killing people with more accidents and the police have more to watch out for like using mobiles behind the wheel. I oppose right wing

    The vote was simple and it was defined. Leave or Remain. There was no conditionality. We were told that out meant out and we said yes. She was very effective for the leave campaign. Umana is so incompetent. I cannot imagine the damage he could do if he actually got in office.
