My Dad almost bought one until the guy called it a "punch action pistol" because the gun would go out of battery every other shot. From what I hear, the Quality control is inconsistent. For one guy loving these guns, there's 3 guys saying they flopped. Taurus, Ruger, even Keltec are much better options.
They're selling all the cpx hammer fired models on Palmetto for only 179 the last few weeks. That's an awesome deal no matter how you look at it. My wife has a version 1 and I think the ones at palmetto are either v2 or v3.
I have a cp-x2 and honesty I like the long trigger, I really do, there is nothing wrong with that. I also have a H&K VP40, and my Taurus M44 .44magnum and my Taurus Tracker 44magnum, yet I love my SCCY cp-x2, that small gun it's great, I highly recommend it. I love your reviews Don, I learn a lot and I love the way you explain and show the facts, pro and con's; Thank you. Greetings from Anchorage Alaska.
I think some have gotten carried away with 3lb, 3mm reset triggers. Great for competition, not so much for defense. A good DAO that's not too heavy or long is fine.
Viewed your video and 8 others. After purchasing the SCCY DVG-1 RDR I first cleaned and lubricated it. Dry fired multiple times plus ran both mags with dummy rounds. Range time employed both mags and used critical defense and fmj ammo. Kept my thumb away from the slide release during firing the pistol. Results: Ran perfect, no issues , and shot tight off hand groups for an 83 year old arthritic man. $201.00 at Buds gun shop. Extremely pleased with the results. My new carry pistol. Thanks for your informative videos and I am a long time fan.

Have the Cpx2 and just picked up the dvg1 with optics ready cut in grey frame and black slide. I got the dvg for 179.99. Not bad I don’t think. Hope it’s reliable.
I have owned a cpx-1 red dot for three years. I put a trigger kit in mine that reduced the trigger from 8 lbs. to 4 lbs. completely different pistol now. I ordered a heavier slide spring that is supposed to reduce muzzle flip. I use mine for concealed carry. After breaking it in it is very dependable.
All jokes aside, I actually considered buying one of those SCCY pistols. The only thing that’s delaying me is the NJ state law regarding handguns. honestly, the sig p365 was just too small for my hands. I could wrap my hand the whole way around, and my fingers would touch my palms. Didnt like that. The shield was no better, how slick and small the slide was, made it difficult to manipulate the slide for clearing malfunctions.
If you have an issues with SCCY, they fix it. if you have a problem with your SIG, Glock, S&W, etc, you have to find a gunsmith and pay pay pay. PSA, Taurus, SCCY, Lifetime warranties. Why can't those high dollar gucci guns like FN and SIG do that?
Had a cpx2 loved it other than the frame pins walked out after about 50 rounds and constant failers to go into battery with ball ammo of all things. Must be a qc issue I sold it.
I owned a SCCY CPX2 . I had the problem with the slide pin ? backing out. Called SCCY and they sent me a replacement pin. That pin got stuck and I had to send it back to SCCY to remove the pin. When I got it back no more pin backing out. I then traded for for a S&W Airweight Snubbie The one good thing about my SCCY experience was I didn't have a problem with the long, heavy Snubbie trigger.😂

I love my sccy cpx2 I'm used to my double action revolver though so it was an easy transition for me with the trigger feels like it shoots forever hahaha after a 5 shot revolver.
I have four SCCY pistols: a CPX-2 RD, two 380s and the DVG-1. They have all been 100% reliable for me. Manufacturing quality on my guns is superb. The long, revolver-like double-action trigger pull of the CPX models is there for a reason: to prevent an accidental discharge. It can easily be mastered with a little practice. The trigger on the DVG-1 is probably one of the best triggers on a budget firearm and is much easier to become familiar with. Accuracy with all my SCCYs has been very good. I shoot at the range quite a bit, and at the typical self-defense distances these guns are designed for they are excellent. The SCCY lineup is not intended to be shot at 50 yard targets: but, what micro-sized pistol is? This really was a very good review. The only important thing missing was information about the fine SCCY warranty, absolutely one of the best in the industry, which even goes with the firearm to subsequent owners. In my experience, if there happens to be a problem, they WILL fix it. Help is just a phone call away. I have other handguns from the Goliath manufacturers, including S&W, GLOCK, CZ, Ruger, FN, Beretta, etc. As far as Bang for the Buck! is concerned, IMHO SCCY is a winner.
Great video order cpx 2 wit CT rd came wit dif optic gonna cancel and go wit dvg like striker fire better thanks for making my mind up amen brother live 💪
Good review! I have a CPX long trigger pull and all I really like it. Had an issue with it sent it into SCCY and got a complete new upper end on the thing no questions asked, works great. I would recommend their firearms to anyone looking for a compact firearm especially those on a budget.
I don't like the grip feel on the CPX but that is the ONLY thing. The long heavy trigger pull is partially to make it a built in safety and also because (I think) that it's a hammer fire.
The cpx-2 trigger pinched and slapped my trigger finger. Does the dvg-1 do the same. Other than that I liked the gun. The crimson redot kept failing in my uncles sccy.
My cpx-2 will stay locked away for the rest of my life issue after issue with it then they sent me the dvg-1 for the inconvenience and i love the dvg-1 ive had no issue with it what so ever besides the magazine not holding the slide back after the last round i like it
There's guns that have long trigger reset and there's the SCCY brand, where the trigger basically has to go fully forward to reset, almost like a revolver. Good for the budget citizen, but not my taste whatsoever.
THAT is the main safety feature, and there need be no others. It is what I WANT for a deep cover concealed carry pistol...........................elsullo
You're better off with getting a Hi Point, Taurus G2C/G3C or a used gen 1 or 2 S&W Shield if you can't afford much. At least those work and won't blow apart in your hand like the SCCY is known for lol.
Guys this hurts me to say. Had to sell my sig p365, glock 19 and glock 43x, along with a couple others, to save my house. Severe financial issues. This was last year, I just had a taurus g2c for home defense, along with shotguns. Gave the taurus to my wife so she has protection when she goes out. Anyway, recently I purchased the SCCY cpx 3 .380 for carry. I am SO used to high quality guns, I was humbled to buy this. Paid $169 for it brand new at a LGS. Although I've shot many better high quality guns, this is my only option for a gun at this point. I am fine with it, I do trust it with my life.
I just don't see a great reason to go this route when Taurus has done so much to address their reliability issues. The G2C and G3C are just better handguns for around the same price, especially if you can find them used. If you can afford a Canik, go with that, but Taurus is my #1 budget choice always and forever until they convince me otherwise.
Let me guess: you did not clean or lube it from the store; and you used the cheapo bulk-box underpowered low-weight ammo from a FartMart?..........................elsullo
just give me a final press coffee maker with a pound of pure KONA grind and a SCCY DVG-1 RDR with a few boxes of Fiocchi practice ammo and a few boxes of Underwood XP for carry duty and I'm in Heaven!
I’m not sure why anyone would “like” the double-action “micro hammer” guns. Ruger finally figured it out. I’m glad SCCY did too. A long, DA trigger pull in a compact is just a catastrophe. A heavy revolver…or a full-size auto…? oK Not a compact. I bought my original Ruger LC9, shot it at the range, and listed it for sale that night at a $50 loss.
My CPX 2 was trash, we are making sure we don't get anymore of their models at the shop. These guns have been having trouble. They posted something on Twitter I responded to their post and they deleted my comment. Companies like that don't get my business.
I can agree with most your videos there sootch but this company been making the most expensive paperweights for years now. I'd typcally have better luck throwing a Sccy at someone and hope I get em in the head.
I picked up a DVG-1 a couple days ago and got to shoot it for the first time tonight. I was actually blown away at how good of a trigger it has for a cheap gun.
Not Cheap, Inexpensive. They are not funding bearded tatted SOCOM wannabe pew toobers to scream at you for not being tatted and bearded and tactical. LOL I have an original SCCY that is my go to for kayaking, biking etc.
I've owned a CPX-2 since 2015, the cost($189 + tax & paperwork) - estetics & cost were major factors in that purchase, but.... the trigger is awful & the slide is reasonably difficult to pull back, though I've ran hundreds of rounds thru it with 4 different mags@ the range and had only a couple of malfunctions. Glad to hear the new striker-fired SCCY is a better product. BUT I have no desire to own another one of their guns.... when I can buy much better guns "near $" -adjusted for 2023 inflation. Ex. Canik, Stoeger, Diamondback, Bersa, Ruger,Taurus, etc.
I do like mine..... but....... I have had a dead trigger issue with 3..... not a save your ass option at all.... but I still run rounds through them once in a while
Love your videos. Sccy is just not on my radar. I’ve heard wayyy to many reliability issues. Trigger pull isn’t even the problem for me at all. I just can’t trust it’s reputation. That said is if it works for someone else then cool.
Anyone interested in a shield plus performance center ported barrel flattish trigger with the red dot? Looking to connect straight with a buyer instead if the middle man crap. Will part for a real fair price cuz I want parts for my Canik Rival
Nothing wrong with a two stage or a double action trigger. Lots of folks use them for all the single stage or a single action trigger snobs that think different. Then there are those of us in the DA/SA camp that use both. Haha. My neighbor had a SCCY and I was not impressed with that particular example. It had sharp slide serrations and a chamber defect would deform the cases of loaded rounds. She complained about the mags not working properly and got new mags for it. I realize for a cheap pistol the quality control may not be very good but this was just bad QC and that pistol with that chamber defect should not have left the factory regardless of the lesser problems. Hopefully SCCY has gotten better. Thanks for sharing.
My only observations of this gun has been on the range and in training classes with students. Consistently a poor performer, the most likely gun to struggle with malfunctions. If they have improved things, that's good. But that will remain to be seen.
There are plenty of places that offer layaway programs. You’re much better off putting the money you’d spend on this pistol towards a higher end pistol. Nearly $300 for a SCCY? For roughly $50 more, you could get the Taurus GX4. Or save another $150-200 and grab yourself a Hellcat, P365, or 43x. They’re better firearms, by a mile. Quality control is far better.
I had a dead trigger within 16 rounds out of the box. Got it back from the factory and had another dead trigger. They fixed that but it still fails to lock open even with the new mags. What a let down. Tried to get my money back from the company and gun store, no luck. I wrote a letter to the CEO on what a garbage gun it is and no one reached out to make it right. I won’t waste another round trying to break it in. Most of the time with guns you get what you pay for.
I have to object to the quality. I owned one of these sccy before and the fit fit and finish is not there. I don’t recommend this gun to anyone. This gun is just as bad as high point. Just not worth the money. Someone would be better to save up a little more to get a better firearm.
Failure to feed, failure to eject, light primer strikes, stovepipes. Tried a couple different gens to see if they got any better, same problems. Maybe the new ones are better idk
Seriously! If you just be patient and stroll thru shops for ammo every once in awhile you'll find some solid used DEALS under $200. I scored a sar k2p for $150, bersa thunder for $120 and a complete Anderson lower for $99 this past month. All are reliable and proven. These sccy pistols have sketchy track records...
Time will tell on the DVG. SCCY can't not improve on the CPX- I've seen too many of them glitch and break. To be perfectly frank, I'd rather be caught live with a Hi-point than dead with a SCCY, and from the CPX's track record that is exactly what you would be.
I'd be more likely to buy a dvg if i didn't see the cpx have such terrible reliably and every review of dvg seems to be the exact same script. Pretty much verbatim. I remember when khar were all the rage and all the reviews were super positive...... only to find out they were garbage shilled by paid reviewers.
Hard pass on this. Why get a SCCY when you can get used Glocks 40 cal for $300-$350. A used Canik is way better than this and there plenty of new Turkish brands that work and are good to go. Used S&W Shield pistols are out there too and they're much better quality. Even for a low blowout price a SCCY isn't a bargain because it's a crapshoot if it's going to run.

I do like mine..... but....... I have had a dead trigger issue with 3..... not a save your ass option at all.... but I still run rounds through them once in a while
Can you do a review of the cpx 3? Tnx
Is there no trigger safety?
I buy one .
Sccy DVG-1 RDR? Seriously, can they throw a few more letters and numbers on this pistol's name/model?
Wow, that seems like a really high bore axis. Did you notice any issues with the height of that axis?
Same GX4 that fails the drop test?
I had a dead trigger within 16 rounds out of the box. Got it back from the factory and had another dead trigger. They fixed that but it still fails to lock open even with the new mags. What a let down. Tried to get my money back from the company and gun store, no luck. I wrote a letter to the CEO on what a garbage gun it is and no one reached out to make it right. I won’t waste another round trying to break it in. Most of the time with guns you get what you pay for.
👍👍

Need to take that “quad lock” off the damn slide. Won’t buy one until they do. They make a cheap gun look cheaper
Bridgeport lathe
I'd like to see SCCY come out with a 25 or 32 caliber in this size.
I Don't think SCCY pistols are built strong enough to be able to take to the range very often. Good for self defense I'd agree with..
$169.00 after rebate at rural king
Somehow, some way, Highpoints are better, and cheaper. Definitely not smaller.
I have to object to the quality. I owned one of these sccy before and the fit fit and finish is not there. I don’t recommend this gun to anyone. This gun is just as bad as high point. Just not worth the money. Someone would be better to save up a little more to get a better firearm.
👍😎🍺🍩.
I've owned several Sccy pistols, they were all junk. I'll pass. Gave em a shot and they all let me down
What was the main problem with them?? Inaccurate? Misfires??
Several? Why did you buy so many if they are trash?
if you want a cheap and reliable gun buy an Armscor M206.
Probably my only time saying this, but you should've bought a Hi Point lol
Failure to feed, failure to eject, light primer strikes, stovepipes. Tried a couple different gens to see if they got any better, same problems. Maybe the new ones are better idk
There are just too many better options, albeit at a slightly higher price point. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
These things are pure trash..theres a reason why they are so cheap amd why you can find them everywhere
First
Congrats!
No lock-back on one magazine, seens like a magazine issue.
I don't know? Do you really think so? Just that one mag, it might lead the others to follow suit over time.... should probably just get rid of it.....
I thought the sccy guns are trash??????
Rather have a HIPOINT. At least I can rely on them. CPX2 with red dot. Can't even get through one magazine. JUNK!!!!
Completely agree. This thing is complete garbage.
Odd, yet they sell MILLIONS OF THEM year after year? Possibly YOU are doing something wrong?.....................elsullo
@@elsullo2 Nickelback also sold millions of albums. Doesn’t make them a good band.
@@Aenima308 hey, I like Nickleback , lol
Funny comment though
@@lens7859 see now you know how to take a joke! The SCCY fan on the other hand…lol
sccy's first gun is junk
