For the lever action I bought a Henry; smooth as silk and no problems whatsoever. So far so good and then I bought a Ruger Talo bolt action rifle: beautiful stainless steel and accurate as all hell. The first semi automatic 22WMR rifle I bought was the Savage A22 which couldn't get through a full magazine without a jam; I sent it back to the factory and to their credit they fixed it but by then I became disenchanted with it. Call me picky but I expect a brand new firearm to function flawlessly and have found that altogether too many do not. I then bought a CZ 512; hallelujah, it cycled flawlessly. For the revolver I got a RIA/ALFA. Th came the choice of a semi automatic pistol which got a bit more frustrating. The first 22WMR pistol I bought was the RIA XT which turned out to be one of the worst jam-o-matics I've ever owned. I sent it back to the factory in Pahrump, Nevada twice to no avail so I brokered a deal with them to simply trade for the ALFA revolver. I then bought a PMR 30 which out of the box would jam even with premium ammo but after some tinkering and a few replacement parts from M.Carbo I was able to get it to cycle well; it shot very accurately but wound up trading it out for something else. When the WMP became available the siren's call of a 22 Magnum pistol hit me again and I bought one. Of all the 22WMR pistols that I owned the Walther was by far the best right out of the box. When a friend of mine on a budget, We were in our mid twenties, asked me about home protection for his family. I suggested a 22lr pistol. He had never shot a pistol and his wife was 5' 2" and 85 lbs. When he asked why I told him. Shot placement is more important than anything. I also told him that nobody had ever been on the wrong side of a 22 and giggled saying that's just a 22. I gave him lots of reasons it was a good choice and explained once they were proficient they could always move up
Nice Sootch00. Great review. I love my WMP. They are great pistols. During target practice all the ammo I have used hits hard and the WMP is very reliable. I practice with this pistol. I find myself using it more and more. I put a CyeLee Wolf “0” on for an optic and the pistol performs great. I also have the OLIGHT Baldr S. Thanks for sharing and be safe. 🇺🇸🇺🇸⭐️🇺🇸🇺🇸
I have a Heritage arms Rough Rider revolver in .22 mag. When I’m out working my property I strap it on. It’s easy to carry as I work. If a Varmit shows up it’s a quick way to dispatch the little bugger.
Walther WMP came from the Walther PPX/Creed. There may not be anything officially from Walther confirming this, but having owned a Walther Creed, the frame internals are almost identical, and the slide design is conceptually the same. The Walther Creed disproves the bore axis myth. It has a very high bore axis but it shot unbelievably flat because of how light the slide was. I always said it felt like you were shooting a sofa. Because it is a hammer fired pistol, it does not require striker springs which lessens weight towards the rear of the slide, making it a flatter shooting pistol.
Rare but I once had a 22 mag case rupture firing a rifle, even though I had safety glasses on some of the gas stung my eyes. With a pistol I would think that issue would be alleviated. Love the 22 Mag anyways. Great video thanks - liked, subbed, and shared. Ha! I love the Bloopers at the end!
I had this same Walther in a 22LR. I loved it. Never had any feed issues. Only issue I could say it had was the slide felt like it was loose and wasn't as tight as it used to be. It never affected the gun tho.
I can see the smile on your face while shooting it, I am pretty sure it's a great pistol. I always like Walther, too bad for sport shooters like us in Canada, the gun law introduced not long ago makes it no longer possible to buy handguns even for sporting use at a club. Great video ! I enjoyed watching it.
My mom got one of these a few weeks ago. She hasn't shot it a lot, but likes it so far. I wish they could get a few more rounds in it. I have a psa rock on the way, we will have to shoot them side by side.
I feel you do a great job of explaining all the weapons you review. I just bought the Walther 22 mag and can't wait to take it to the range. I am a Army vet and you have reviewed every weapon I have bought. I really feel that the choices that I have made so far were good ones after seeing them on your reviews. Stay honest on your opinions and keep up the great work
I have both, a WMP and a PMR30. PMR 30 is lighter, nicer trigger, 30 rd capacity (not easy to load to 30), fairly reliable but picky on ammo. WMP is bigger and heavier, optics ready 👍, 15 rd capacity (super easy to load), more reliable and handles broader range of ammo. I like both, but I trust the WMP more. The PMR30 has been good shooting Hornady Critical Defense 45 gr, but not 100%, I've had a handful of malfunctions in the 500+ I've put thru it. The WMP has been 100% reliable so far. I was able to get 500 rds of Federal Premium Speer TNT's, 30 gr, for under $10/box of 50. Super price, but was worried about the light bullet, they've been 100% in the WMP, but I have less than 100 rds of them thru it. IMO, both fun range guns, personally I wouldn't trust a rimfire for self defense, again, my opinion only, so either would be fine for plinking and varmits. I prefer the WMP, less issues and I like the ease of loading the mags, plus optics ready is a big deal to me!
Not many 5.7 comparisons here in the comments. With a few brands now making pistols in 5.7 I figured Walther made this magnum 22 in response. One thing that's already visible, the grip isn't over bloated like the 5.7 models.
I took mine out today and noticed an issue maybe you guys could help with. I was firing CCI Maxi Mag 1875 fps FMJ rounds. The first 2 magazine loads were just fine, no issues. Then...after every single round, it would dry fire on the next round. If I racked the slide again it would fire. Perhaps it wasn't seating the round properly? I cleaned it when I first got it and again after this range trip. Other than that, I love the gun. It's extremely accurate and fun to shoot.
As much as I love my WMP, I can't figure why Walther made it so honkin' HUGE given the caliber it's firing. The WMP is even larger than the full-sized 4" Walther PDP! Finding holsters to fit this thing has been darn near impossible, leaving your choices with either a semi-universal holster (even then, options are limited) or getting a custom-made holster (usually very expensive).
Great review. I’m still debating if I’m gonna pull the trigger on a 22 mag for plinking. It’s more expensive than 22Lr little cheaper than 9 in some places it’s more than 9. Trying to justify the cost for something that will be a range toy. If I do decide to go with a 22 mag it will definitely be the Walther WMP
Very good review Mr Don I like my pmr but this a good looking 22mag may have to pick one up thanks I too am from SC bought one today Mr Don thanks for the review
Now you can add Smith & Wesson to the 22 Magnum list with their offering of the M&P 22 ! With 30 + 1 magazine ! As well as Rock Island armory XT - 22 !
Got one of these for Christmas put a crimson trace red dot and an Olight laser/flashlight combo on it with cci 40 hp i wouldn't hesitate to use it for self defense . This gun groups very nice and the muzzle blast is fierce along with the fire ring but no recoil easy to stay on target
I just put one of these on lay away. It wasnt my first choice honestly, but it was my second. My first choice was the Ruger MKIV in 22lr. I am going to be using it for pest control on the golf course where I work. I have been using a 22 rifle, but I want something more compact that I can also carry all day. I am using 22s because of the sound level. We have people that live around the course and we prefer not top wake them up at 3am when we shoot an armadillo. I know the mags are louder than the 22lr but its still within acceptable limits. Im going to get an underbarrle light/laser for it instead of mounting an optic though.
*So smart to give the old dogs their button mag release, and us new school ergo advantageous guys, their dynamically effective paddle release.* *Now implement that dynamic in all Walther pistols, that should make everyone happy.* *I wish they would have shaved off that back bottom corner of the grip, to match the PPQ M1, so as to give less ability of printing while concealed.* *And also wish they would offer a more trimmed down slide version, for all of us who are not part of the Red Dot Fad.* (call the Red Dot capable one "Target", and the one without "Defense".* *Thanks for the cool review, ya, it's definitely a Walther EZ, I like it. (now go frog lube that mess you showed us)*
This is interesting. I watched the KelTek video you did. Now this Walther gun. Might need to do a shoot off or pro con video to see which is best and for what purpose. I want both pistols but the budget says only one right now.
I still have (& carry, if I have to, for deep concealment) an NAA .22 mag mini revolver; no, not a first choice, but always better than nothing at all😃🇺🇸
For home defense I'll stick with my Mossberg Shockwave 12gauge loaded with 9 Federal #4 buck shorty shells equipped with a green laser and flashlight, but each to their own.
Get it. The last thing you're thinking about when you touch off a .22 WMR is the ammo cost. It brings a sense of occasion to every range trip, and is super satisfying.
A 6.5" barrel .22 Magnum is supposed to have a muzzle velocity of 1480 fps. This pistol should exhibit a muzzle velocity of Approximately 1250 - 1300 fps. The velocity given by the author is for a rifle length barrel.
Just using this to do some writing, but this was super educational and you explained why all of the different things were the way they were and how the different features were changed by adding something like a sight or the different grams in the ammo. Thanks.
Good review. I do not like that it is double action. Walther's 22 LR version is not. I don't know know why that with the DA on this. I will NOT be buying this one just because of the DA.
I'm excited that Walther came out with this. 22 WMP is great! And the take down with the slide is a better set up than the 22 LR. This will be better than the keltec I believe. Walther is a favorite of Steven Crowder too!
Except that Walther has horrible quality control and a repair department that's been notorious for decades as incompetent! If you have a _good_ Walther, it's great! If you have a bad one, you are on your own because Walther *will not* fix it. They have *never* fixed one of their pistols, and probably never *will!* Ask around. I'll buy Kel-Tec.

@@jimnagel5611 A .22 WMR between the eyes will do the trick. You will find that the 125gr .357 Magnum from Buffalo Bore or Underwood hits even harder than the 158gr rounds. Also, you might want to turn off caps lock.
My great uncle has a keltec 22 mag pistol that holds 30 rounds and comes with 3 mags. 90 rds of 22 mag is amazing defense for elderly people or women who are sensitive to recoil
The fight is over is by 4-8 shots. Someone is running away, severely injuried, or dead by then
@@robarmstrong5404 more like 3. Most defense scenarios won’t need more than 3 I was just stating a pretty good factor that a lot of people care about which is capacity
The WMP will be much more reliable than any Kel-Tec.
Would be a great little side arm for trappers also when they dispatch there catches. Also yes great self defense for those who dont like or are scared of bigger calibers.
My PMR 30 has no issues with 30gr to 50gr loads in over 2000 rounds. Had one hiccup when I rim lock because I was not paying attention, other than that it took everything I load it with.
It's still built like a crappy airsoft gun.
PMR 30 prefers 40-50 grain ammo. Love my frankenpistol. So light you hardly notice you have it on.
Nice looking 22 Mag, one of my favorite calibers. Thanks again Don and Sara Mac, great video!! May have to get me one of these!!
KELTEC PMR-30 TIP: If you relieve the sharp edge that is under the magazine follower around where the spring rides (the round hole), the mags load very easy, and feed better. A win win
Thanks for the tip!
Here's an even better tip: throw it in the trash and get a Walther that actually works instead.
@@joshklaver47 and save money!
Actually the newer PMR's running great. The walther is sweet too, but big and clunky.
I like this gun, I like the sound of bullets and your popular science explanation. Thank you for letting me know the beauty of this gun.
I just bought one of these, and I'm waiting for it to arrive with a lot of anticipation!
Thanks for the great review! I also love the paddle type mag release. I love my P22 and if the opportunity presents itself, I will also pick up this WMP 22 Magnum.👍
Fiocchi 40 grain jacketed hollow point made good Fireballs in the broad daylight Sun out of my Walther totally gnarly
I have a PMR 30 which I purchased in 2011 and I have never had a failure to load and fire with more that 2000 rounds. I believe the first 22 WMR semi-auto pistol was made by Hi-Standard as I was trying to find one when the PMR 30 came out.
AMT automag
There was a High Standard (very rare), then the Grendel P-30, then the AMT AutoMag II, then the Kel-Tec P30.
@@davidgoodnow269 Owned several HS . Never seen or heard of ,nor can I find any reference online to a HS .22 mag sa. I thought I knew about all .22mags. can you provide a pic or reference to this gun ?
@@paulmoss7940 No, just something I remember from a gun show nearly fourty years ago!
Nice gun and review. When carrying .22 WMR I prefer Federal Game Shok 50 grain bullets. CCI and Federal Punch shoot very well too. I have the Rock Island you mentioned and both 2 and 3 inch Ruger LCRX versions. All the best. "The JJ" SW Penna.
I have one . Awesome gun. 30 g hornady ammo with polymer tip wont cycle well. Stick to the ammo reccomendations that walther suggests
People always make fun of 22 magnum, but no one has ever been brave enough to say "hey shoot me with that 22 mag a couple of times I'll be fine after"
Dumb
I hate when people post a comment as dumb as this one.
My thoughts exactly..!!
Right thru the gel block should say something
YESS!!!!. Say it louder for the people in the back
When a friend of mine on a budget, We were in our mid twenties, asked me about home protection for his family. I suggested a 22lr pistol. He had never shot a pistol and his wife was 5' 2" and 85 lbs. When he asked why I told him. Shot placement is more important than anything. I also told him that nobody had ever been on the wrong side of a 22 and giggled saying that's just a 22. I gave him lots of reasons it was a good choice and explained once they were proficient they could always move up
Thank you for the beautiful video. For me, the best pistol in this category is the Beretta F87 Cheetah . Others may be students of this pistol.
Such a cool little round, great video.
Thanks Joshua!
Love my walter ppk 22cal. With threaded barrel. Think I might pick one of these up during Christmas for myself.
I have a Heritage arms Rough Rider revolver in .22 mag. When I’m out working my property I strap it on. It’s easy to carry as I work. If a Varmit shows up it’s a quick way to dispatch the little bugger.
You really afraid of a little bugger? Wow, what a man.
Because it is a hammer fired pistol, it does not require striker springs which lessens weight towards the rear of the slide,
making it a flatter shooting pistol.
I actually saw this gun in a shop the other day. I was surprised to see it had 4 different mag release buttons and that it's fully ambidextrous.
Love the review love the channel 👏 the Walther in 22mag. Muzzle-flash (fireball) is really something 👌
Been waiting. Love my P22.
22 mag awesome and more capable than people think
Thanks, this was very informative and entertaining!
Revolution!
My mom got one of these a few weeks ago. She hasn't shot it a lot, but likes it so far. I wish they could get a few more rounds in it. I have a psa rock on the way, we will have to shoot them side by side.
15 is plenty. Just get some more magazines.
I feel you do a great job of explaining all the weapons you review. I just bought the Walther 22 mag and can't wait to take it to the range. I am a Army vet and you have reviewed every weapon I have bought. I really feel that the choices that I have made so far were good ones after seeing them on your reviews. Stay honest on your opinions and keep up the great work
very nice, it is a pity that 22 magnum is so expensive here in Belgium, all ammunition has become much more expensive here
I have both, a WMP and a PMR30.
Every time I'm at the range with this gun, I get at least 2 people that come over to ask questions about it.
I bought a 1791 Gunleather paddle holster for my WMP and it fits perfectly. Around $60. It even accomodates the pistol with a red dot mounted on it.
The keltec PMR is a fun gun, extremely lightweight. I did find it ammo picky, ran great with CCI.
HELL WHY NOT . Here you go again this oldman is going to get one. My Walther PDP is awesome so why not get one.
I would love a compact version of this
Kel-tec PMR 30

Kel TEC PMR 30 is a big gun. .It is a very light weight gun but it is a big gun . I want a semi auto compact pocket gun in 22 Magnum.
Just remember below 3 in is a waist on .22 mag., under 3 in. might as well be Lr.😎
🤣🤣🤣 "Trying to justify..." Man, so many of us "create" reasons to buy, just one more.
.22 Mag is so much more fun to shoot than .22 LR. The .22 LR gets boring eventually, but .22 WMR brings a sense of occasion every time you fire it.
This is a great self-defense round IMHO with Fedreal 45-grain punch.
25 yards .22Mag out of a scoped Rossi bolt action rifle you can run bullets through the same hole. A very accurate round.
You cant compare short and long barrel..
I have the Rossi RB22M and RS22M, both with 14" barrels and suppressors. Awesome guns.
Very good review Mr Don I like my pmr but this a good looking 22mag may have to pick one up thanks I too am from SC bought one today Mr Don thanks for the review

With 30 + 1 magazine !
As well as Rock Island armory XT - 22 !
I have the wmp for the past year it's is a awesome shooting fun gun
Holy fireball gatman!
Great video! Thanks for all the great info!
That is a really good idea !! .22 cal auto pistols need a little oomph for personal defense! Great idea !!
Love the redundancy on this model. Ambidextrous shooting rules!!
Very nice gun wouldn't mind having one thanks for sharing sootch00
*So smart to give the old dogs their button mag release, and us new school ergo advantageous guys, their dynamically effective paddle release.*
*Now implement that dynamic in all Walther pistols, that should make everyone happy.*
*I wish they would have shaved off that back bottom corner of the grip, to match the PPQ M1, so as to give less ability of printing while concealed.*
*And also wish they would offer a more trimmed down slide version, for all of us who are not part of the Red Dot Fad.* (call the Red Dot capable one "Target", and the one without "Defense".*
*Thanks for the cool review, ya, it's definitely a Walther EZ, I like it. (now go frog lube that mess you showed us)*
Walther: "Ok we'll make a 22 mag but it's going to be bigger than any .45 you've ever owned"
Not too heavy, though.
Almost no recoil, and the bullets are long.
Really good review, thank you!
This is interesting. I watched the KelTek video you did. Now this Walther gun. Might need to do a shoot off or pro con video to see which is best and for what purpose. I want both pistols but the budget says only one right now.
Yeah, I'm working on getting a RIA 22 Mag and do a head to head. Plus it's a good excuse to take these back to the range : ) Thanks Mike!
Short version: The Kel-Tec is a piece of garbage. Get the WMP that actually works.
Love that Flame Thrower… Sweet review .
Like a mini-10mm...
I still have (& carry, if I have to, for deep concealment) an NAA .22 mag mini revolver; no, not a first choice, but always better than nothing at all😃🇺🇸
Bad guys fear pain...
your 22 would infict the pain needed
For home defense I'll stick with my Mossberg Shockwave 12gauge loaded with 9 Federal #4 buck shorty shells equipped with a green laser and flashlight, but each to their own.
Same here

You can't go wrong with Walther pistols 👍
Great video. I just learned that you are from my home town. Great to know that we are neighbors. Keep up the good work brother.
Well done review!
I just found the perfect pistol for my daughter with Federal .22 wmr punch. Dad will feel secure.
Thanks for another very good review.
Looks a lot better than the keltec
I hope they use the double set of mag release on more pistols it would set them apart more
How does this compare to the s&w 22 mag. ? I’ve heard that one has a bunch of issues and failures, problems with magazines
It’s funny that we Germans can’t have these Guns for self defense, but an American can 😂😢
You all make great guns in Germany. Mein Walther ist ein wunderbar pistole.
It's not funny, it's sad and infuriating.
Maybe if all of Germany demanded gun rights they'd give them to you... Or at least be too scared to say no
Sad really.
God Bless America
Might be my best option for my wife who is seriously recoil sensitive.
Awesome 22 mag, Walther makes great firearms! If the 22 mag ammo wasn't so expensive, I would have one of these already...
"If you can't afford the ammo,
you can't afford the pistol." ( paraphrasing TAB )
@@fjb4932 Well, I just hate the idea of spending so much on 22 mag. I will likely have a WMP soon. I don’t think I can resist.
Get it. The last thing you're thinking about when you touch off a .22 WMR is the ammo cost. It brings a sense of occasion to every range trip, and is super satisfying.
Today, 22 mag is $22 for 50, 5.7 x 28 is $1 per round, 22 mags are cheaper than 380
Thanks!
A 6.5" barrel .22 Magnum is supposed to have a muzzle velocity of 1480 fps. This pistol should exhibit a muzzle velocity of Approximately 1250 - 1300 fps. The velocity given by the author is for a rifle length barrel.
I caught that too, I was told today 1400 to 1600 with 22 mag depending on bullet. And the 5.7 being at 2000fps from the pistols.
Just using this to do some writing, but this was super educational and you explained why all of the different things were the way they were and how the different features were changed by adding something like a sight or the different grams in the ammo. Thanks.
Funny I like the paddle mag release takes a bit of training but once you have done some work it's great. PPS has it and I do like the system
I have the Kel-Tec PMR 30 and love it! I will prolly pick one of these up. 22mag is one of the most underrated calibers out there! I love the 22 mag!
Excellent video thank you
Hmm 🤔. This Walther WMP vs the new S&W 22 Mag. ??? Would make a very good vid.
The only thing I don’t like about the kel tec pmr is the base of grip mag release. Have lost several loaded mags while hiking
Good review. I do not like that it is double action. Walther's 22 LR version is not. I don't know know why that with the DA on this.
I will NOT be buying this one just because of the DA.
We need a TX22 magnum please 🙏
The Walther p22 was fun. Wish they would remake it with a larger mag capacity. It looks much smaller than this .22mag pistol
Wish they would do more with the 22 tcm round it could be a great selfdefese round
I'll buy Kel-Tec.
awesome quality rimfire pistol! 👍
