Hi Pedro, first I would like to say a BIG thank you for your very informational videos you take the time to share with us again thank you. I'm shop manager for my family's trucking company I have been doing this for the past 3 years, prior I was a GM for a trucking company that ran 130 units. Big game changer for me. I love my job but there is still a lot I need to learn. After watching this video my question is on the high pressure side of the fuel system aren't you suppose to drain the fuel a certain way due to injectors being in a closed state? i am having issues with some DD13 #6 injector staying open broke a valve and cracked the head. The machine shop is not standing behind this overhaul was done in Feb 2022 and here we are a few months later with this issue.
If an injector stayed open then fuel must have locked or damaged the engine. When you replace an injector or injectors you should remove the fuel that leaks out and will sit on top of the piston. It isn’t much. When the engine was overhauled, did the same shop buy the parts and install them?
Hello I got a question. I did a replace a number 3 injector, replace the injector harness, replace the fuel line, and the after I replace it put everything back together and I try to start a truck. It will crank couple times, ( weak crank and stop cranking and it won't let me start a truck, did pump the fuel try to start the truck through there starter and it won't start, I didn't programmed the new injector in the computer, do you think it will be the problem that the truck won't start or could be anything else, maybe the starter but before I did this job, the truck start fine. I don't know, if you have any idea, please let me know. Thank you
xxtruckin93xx when the engine is running, yes there is extreme high pressure. However once you key the engine off wait 10-15 minutes and you are fine to start working on the fuel system. The system will gradually lower the pressure on its own. No need to do anything.
$1100 is ridiculous, that has be with the core charge. They will credit you back the core once it is returned. Aftermarket is something I won’t touch. I have been burned too many times. Even if the customer agrees to or brings the parts. The shop runs the risk and responsibility.
EDWIN MONTERROZA perform a compression test using the software. This will help to determine which cylinder might be bad. Could be the piston rings allowing blow by.
Hey Edwin am buying a freightliner Cascadia with dd13 and am worried the engine may not be strong enough for hauling 80,000lbs, what is your experience with the engine
Very difficult to tell, you have to test the charge air cooler, perform a valve adjustment, check fuel pressures at different RPM's. Have your mechanic try these things first before anything else.
Hello, i have 2012 freighter with DD15 engine with 850,000 mile and we found cylinder 5 & 6 leaking coolant so i end up rebuilding the engine but my injector is working fine so far, do you recommend replacing all injectors or not and i would appreciate your answer
testy Ab i have done quite a few inframes/rebuilds. But replacement of injectors depends on if you are willing to spend the extra money. The customers that decided to not replace their injectors did not have any issues. Eventually you will need to but if they are not giving you any issues or loss of power or problems with regenerations then I say keep them.
Detroit does sell a special injector removal tool. The one in the video, we purchased from Snap-On. It isn’t made specifically for injector removal but it works well
Hello Carlos , I have questions, I have tune up, 2 weeks ago, and fist week I have long haul from ca to ks , when I come back I have code spn 1636 fmi 2 , active , last week I just from ca to ar same around like 3200 mile ,this time I have code spn 1325 fmi 31, and power is decreased 25%, and when I try to star engine ,the truck has shake , code active if driving felt normal, use computer try to found injector 3.4.5 not good , questions do I need tune up again or need change injector?or some problems from the engine?thank you
This maybe harness related. Let me get to my shop tomorrow and try and look them up. In the meantime, does your harness have any oil present? I don’t recommend injector replacement just yet. Very rare for 3 injectors to go bad. Again, could be the main MCM harness or the MCM itself. But, let me check these out and try to get back to you tomorrow with some ideas.
1636/2 is for the engine air tempature sensor says to replace it 1325/31 The fault condition is related to cylinder #4 exhibiting a misfire event. The entry conditions for this code are: • Engine speed is above low idle • All cylinders are active, no fault reactions • Engine speed/torque is steady This fault can occur due to the conditions listed below: • Cylinder kit failure • Valve train failure • Lash adjustments • Fuel injector • High pressure fuel line (rail to fuel injector) • Debris entering fuel injector (intermittent faults) NO the injectors will go bad over time
Good question, yes an injector can be bad without generating a fault code. The mechanical side can fail and cause this issue. Perform a manual cut out test to confirm which injector is NOT cutting out.
I can double check that fault code tomorrow. But it might a harness issue, you have two harness’ under that valve cover. The front harness for injector 1, 2, 3 and then you the rear harness for injector 4, 5, 6. On the outside of the valve cover remove the round plug and inspect for oil contamination. If any oil is present I would advise to first start there. You may have to replace the injector harness (front and back).
@@CarlosDieselElectric @ Im going to change both injector harness. I hope that will fix my issues. Also the original code cleared itself now i have SPN- 1073 AND SPN- 1072 FMI 5, FAULT code...any more advise or ideas you can give me. i really appreciate it.. Thank you for your help...
@@CarlosDieselElectric @ question, I have that code that came on again SPN-3661 Fmi 3 ( Engine fuel 1 injector cylinder 3 actuator 2) I changed the injector harness both of them, I changed the engine wiring also ) any help would be greatly appreciated...

gus in this instance there was no check engine light or active fault code. The owner said he felt the truck was shaking at certain speeds and he had low power. So I did a cylinder cutout test at low rpm and high rpm in order to find the bad injector.
