I'm originally from Piriaka mid 1960's, (south of Taumarunui) having been a former Rail Employee from Wanganui. Absolutely love the scenic view from this video footage. Unbelievable, the state of those carriages being hauled by that locomotive is a disgrace. Kiwi Rail needs a kick in the backside for abandoning these carriages in Taumarunui, and to allow them to decay and be vandalised.
@bonda01 Fog was insane (Not so much for drone) Was pretty thick from Taumarunui to the south end of the Poro-o-tarao after that was clear as anything.
I passed through in the evening and took some photos of this consist. I didn't have the time to wait until the morning but its great to see you filmed it. Thanks 😊
They're getting SA5617, SA5638, SA5695, SA5703, SA5730, SA5743, SA5770, SA5818, SA5829, SD3199, SD5652, SD5762 and SD5842! So they could make several consists and become public transport 😂
@Kiwitrailchannel There isn't much left in Taumarunui anymore, especially after they started scrapping them. I think there's 1 row of them left, but I'm not sure who owns them.
Unlikely due to their mechanical condition. Especially the amount of transmission oil they spew in all directions leaving a visible trail behind them on the tracks. SA/SD stock has a useful purpose for them. ADL not so much.
Because it's the only loco they have that is main line certified. They own a DC they are restoring and it would be very unlikely for them not to get that main line certified also. And with the number of SA/SD carriages they now have it is only a matter of time before they get their second DBR main line certified also. I believe they picked up the SA/SD carriages off Auckland Transport for $1 each because AT doesn't want to keep paying to store them on Kiwirail land.
A real pea-souper early in the morning! Good chase 👍

Amazing Taumarunui artwork on the carriages.
Nice footage. Neat how that fog cleared completely!

I love the sound of the DCs and DBRs
Good effort that proves these cars can be safely towed from Taumarunui by rail rather than relying on road transport.
It will be pretty funny if the GVR are looking to make a heritage MAXX consist. Dont they have another DBR to restore 👀👀👀

Neat video, good effects with the heavy fog, imagine GVR running a subbie type service from Pukekohe to Glenbrook, go G-Maxx. 😁
@zanegracie39 Growing up with the SAs I'd love to see one again and film it this time.
Pukekohe Station is looking fantastic
@@stinchjack Sure Is!
I want to buy an SD carriage for a front yard project. Hopefully, they still have some in the coming years...

@KiwiRailSpotter or what about those SX driving trailers?
@Kiwitrailchannel all the SXs are long gone.
That row that is left consists of SA carriages and SD driving cabs.
@KiwiRailSpotter wait, what happend to the SXs? I know one of them was used for a house but what about the others?
@Kiwitrailchannel sold off to people
1 is still at Taumarunui owned by the preservation group there
Is the GVR going to purchase some of the old diesel multiple units for preservation as well?
@user-ou3hz6wk9q They might do I'm not sure to be honest.

Wonder why they used 1254 for this move....
@@maxwellthehedgehog6273 Why wouldn't they?
