- On the 26th-27th of August the Glenbrook Vintage Railway headed down to Taumarunui with DBR 1254 again for another movement of SA/SD carriages this time with a bigger consist, consisting of SD 5675 SD 5883 SA 5743 SA 5818 SA 5638 SA 5730 SA5695 SA 5770 SA 5703 SA 5617 and SA 5829. 11 Carriages all up which ended up being 381 tons which is just 9 tons under the DBR's max tonnage. this is also the heaviest train 1254 has pulled since its return to service (With GVR).
This time the carriages traveled to the Mission Bush Yard for storage as there is no room for an extra 11 carriages at Glenbrook with the previous 4 SDs being moved and the ADLs taking up a lot of space.
Despite what I said last time about the carriages being in a poor state its only really the exterior that is bad from what I've been told the interior is pretty decent considering they've been in Taumarunui for 8-9 years, however they still needed speed restrictions because of the long storage.
Taumarunui - Okahukura 35 Km/h
Okahukura - Ongarue 45 Km/h
Ongarue - Waimiha 45 Km/h
Waimiha - Mission Bush 55 Km/h
Unfortunately on the day around Taumarunui is was extremely wet I tried to avoid it where I could but wasn't so lucky and if it wasn't raining it was windy so there is a bit of wind noise here and there towards the end of the video but isn't too bad.
Special Thanks to the GVR Crew for an awesome chase!
Enjoy!
Great watch in U.K. - thank you.
@@ChrisJBrady Glad you enjoyed!
Should be of particular interest to you seeing as these are ex BR carriages rebuilt almost beyond recognition. Like to know what they will be used for now. Too good to waste.
@cathybrind2381 Will be stored until they're fixed up for mainline excursions and what not. Not too much work to be done from what I know, but still a lot.
More of clean up to me shouldn't take long@@KiwiRailSpotter
Thank you for your work. Enjoyable to watch
@malcolmyeates8212 Thanks, man glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video. Besides storage, are there any plans for the carriages?
@FranktheTank-bk8me Thanks! To be restored for Mainline and railway Operations, I imagine
The twp SD cars what are they? Are they powered cars the cabs at the front seem to indicate that.
@MerleDoughty-yw6cl Yes, they have driving cabs and a generator.
I'm not sure if you know, but they were used on the old Auckland SA/SD push-pull trains run under MAXX Transport.
It's like stock going to the freezing works isn't it? 🫣
