I just finished playing through this, wow the game is pretty hard! But might be the best shooter I've ever played! The minds that created these games are awesome.
You can tell you are watching a Saturn game in the area that looks partially black and white, when the beams of light shine down, it has that "mesh" like effect!! : D
1:08:32 Which describes you perfectly. Seriously, immaturity like that is reason enough you deserve a Salsa-Henry-Opus-Twins-Gatorade-Unicycle-Norris to the Swap-Keillor-Upon-Like-Legend, Valis77!
You don't need to be on the hsrdest difficulty to get the good ending. In case you didn't notice, those rings in the background on the final stage were slowly changing color from blue to red. Once the rings turn red, the boss will escape, taking you to the bad ending.
@@CPS42069 No matter what difficulty you end up in the game, you'll have good CGI cutscene. If you finish it in normal, the staff will be present in the video and the sound effects will be absent. In hard and master, you will have the video with sound effects and the staff disappears. Except in easy (the USA version only get to level 4 and you are forced to raise the difficulty)
@@CPS42069 Nope im playing in normal difficulty and im still unlock the Extra CG ending with last latter sequence at the end and in fact that's my first time im unlock that in my first clear game.
@@RuV9999 Normal ending clear in PS1 port shows New CG ending (remake of the saturn ending) with Saturn version staff. PS conversion staff won't show unless you beat it on Hard/Master.
John V Working Designs was going to release TF5 in the US, along with Hyper Duel, Lunar and possibly Grandia (can’t remember). But Victor Ireland had a famous meltdown at 1997 E3 with Sega of America’s new chief, Bernie Stolar, which ended the relationship entirely. Both men are still grouchy about that episode.
Even if Bernie Stolar did everything right for the Sega Saturn like releasing popular Saturn games like Sakura Taisen, Thunder Force V, and etc. it wouldn't not had mattered because Sega will still have to face fierce competition with the Nintendo 64 and specially the Sony PlayStation. In other words the Sega Saturn is a doomed console for North America and PAL regions.
Bernie was a former Sony man and shouldn't have worked for Sega. It's unbelievable that 80% of Saturn games never left Japan. Shenmue, Virtua Fighter 3, and Sonic Adventure were supposed to be on Saturn but canceled last minute and moved to the Dreamcast. They should have kept the console going until at least the year 2000.
I'm honestly still impressed that Technosoft (and Sega) never got their asses sued for ripping off Metallica's Master of Puppets riff on the Thunder Force IV theme song. Be sure to not tell them about it! We want a Thunder Force compilation release and we don't want lawyers mucking it up. What a fan-freaking-tastic videogame.
you won't see something like this on any modern console today. this game came out a year before star soldier: vanishing earth on n64; R type Delta, G darius and gradius gaiden on ps1; gradius 4 and 1944: the loop master in the arcades, and blazing star on neogeo aes.
Yeah I think it’s cuz it’s mostly used for Claw blocking which is super useless or idk underutilized in this game unlike previous games cuz I do like Claw Blocking
The Saturn version has better background details and the D pad is really good for shoot em ups, but the PS1, not as pretty but removes some frame drops and slowdown present on the Saturn release, and has some new cinematics and the full story of the game.
Thunder Force V was a big disappointment for me. While Thunder Force IV was a masterpiece. It had a stunning OST and very detailed scenarios, cool design, immersive gameplay (you really felt like fighting aliens and invading their homeland) Thunder Force V looks like a total s*. The music is awful, the gamedesign is very poor, and the gameplay boring. This game dont deserve the "Thunder Force" name. Great video though! Keep the good work.
I disagree. Thunder Force 5 is my favorite entry of the series along with Thunder Force 3 and 4. I like how gameplay goes back to Thunder Force 3's gameplay style rather than 4's style gameplay (with a little bit off 4's gameplay) as well some new stuffs like over-weapon system and a new blue ship fighter. The bosses are cool like Guardian Knight, Vasteel Original (the ship that we fighting, from TFIV protagonist who got destroyed) and Unknown. The music feels more like Thunder Force. You can beat bosses with using a twin shot only, either charged or uncharged but it depends, if you find Free Range too broken and overpowered like Saber from Thunder Force 3, just use twin shot only. But hey, opinions exist, we can have a different opinions, and we can respect opinions each other. It's like you prefer MMX4 over the MMX5. And overall, both Thunder Force 3, 4 & 5 are great entry of the series.
The real time graphics aged very quickly, and the technical strain might have affected the level design and lack of environment obstacles. 5th gen 3d really threw gaming back to the stone age The music otoh is absolutely epic and stands up with 2-3-4, while offering something different

This is one hell of a game! Then again the Thunder Force series has always been a blast...literally!
I always gonna love the sound of the explosion in this game.
This game is proof that the saturn can do amazing things if put in the right hands.
Such a great masterpiece....

Thank you.
For a Japanese Sega Saturn game the game is entirely in English as if Technosoft wanted the Saturn version to be released in the western market.

Why can't they just re-released Thunder Force V with HD quality?? :D
really shouldve been part of sega ages! Maybe we'll get in sega's new retro range!
Sega need re-realease that game. or maybe with help with M2 to get a better port quality

I like that Saturn version has more detailed backgrounds
I miss this game so much
nice play!
Hold on. Every time the Brigandine is hit, it absorbs it and reduces its shield counter, but earns you points.
You also need free range+overweapon to speedkill the mechs/enemy ships, crucial for scoring

YES YES.
