I delivered three loads to NYC, the roads are meant for a horse an buggy, not a tractor with a 53’ trailer. On my third and last load there I have come to the conclusion “to hell with NYC and any surrounding areas.” I don’t care if the load is paying 20k, I am not going anywhere near that area.

If you drove a 53' trailer through NYC local streets, you probably violated the law. The only time you can drive a 53' trailer is if you are going to JFK airport, or passing through to Long Island. All other loads must be broken down into shorter trailers before entering NYC.

He asked where he was supposed to park the truck, they said the straight truck just parks on the sidewalk 😮 so I proceed to maneuver around parked cars and fire hydrant and building awnings, street traffic and park it right where they said to put it. Cop said he never seen anybody do that before. Then I had to help unload bc the dock people were gone. The owner wanted me to come back next day to deliver and I told No…. This is my scheduled time and we’re delivering it. If I leave they will have to reschedule bc I wasn’t coming back. Haven’t been back to NYC since

Not necessarily, he would have probably been better off if he just listened to them and blindsided it. They deal with trucks coming in everyday so they know what they are talking about, the docks looked like they were slanted at a weird angle which is why he struggled so hard because he had to back in at such an awkward and angle with not much room to work with.

I used to run John Deere tractors on a dry van from Georgia to mom and pop dealers in the corn belt. First of all, those parking lots were meant maybe for a day cab. Secondly, they would park all their equipment all over the property so navigating around it all was a real chore. This right here is a good reminder of why I gave up trucking. I don’t know how anyone does this crap year after year. 3 years was enough for me!

One tip another RUclips trucker @AlexNino gives, and I think it actually works, is small movements, not over do it on the steering wheel. Otherwise you end up doing what Kevin was doing. Glad it all worked out, that’s what matters. 👍🏼

I hate how some intersections allow vehicles to park that close to the edge. For this reason. Good job in the turn though. I love watching these tight turn videos. It’s a skill I do great at, but it seems rare because of a lot of new drivers they do not know their truck, clearances, and have no confidence and these are the ones who would have had to do that first turn in my maneuvers haha but you did great. Fun to watch.
