Genesis has been in the US for seven years now and it is regarded as a premium brand--in the same way as Lexus is for Toyota and Acura is for Honda. Originally sold at Hyundai dealerships, they have gradually been building up their stand alone network. here. Look at the US Wikipedia for all the models they have sold in the US. They are all pretty well regarded, in the same ballpark as Lexus.

Been an admirer on Genesis since I first saw them. This shooting brake looks amazing inside and out, That colour is the cherry on top. I really like the indicator cameras, a very nice touch indeed, and the servicing perks a wonderful touch of customer appreciation. Very surprised that there is not more of them on the roads. Wonderful review Anna.

Great video, Anna. Hurrah! No electric nonsense and not an SUV 👏🥳 Unfortunately, it’ll be hit by the premium road tax here in the UK for anything over £40k. It’s probably going to remain a niche choice but could be a shrewd buy used once depreciation has sliced a chunk off the price. An interesting choice if you don’t need the room of a traditionally styled estate.

Well Anna, for the first time in a while you have some competition, that car in that colour is a looker! I currently drive a Ruby Red Mustang GT, a very similar colour. When the time comes to change our current daily (new Corolla Hybrid) I am definitely heading to the Genesis dealer. A petrol shooting brake in that colour is top of my shopping list, so thank you Anna, and well done on yet another excellent video.

Thank you Isaac ❤ I think Genesis's strategy is full electric or a pure combustion engine. This is where they truly are the experts. Their electrics are one of the best on the market - rapid charging, very good batteries which hold a solid range.

Hello, Anna! Thank you for this great presentation; very impressive audiovisual 'Anna on Roads' intro. As for the car, I really like the interior of this car. The dark cabin interior plus the rounded windows makes it look as if you are driving a classic car from yesteryears; something I always liked; none of that cheap light gray plastic _"look 'n feel"_ so common today (UGH!!). As for the external color, this glossy burgundy you like is just fine 👌. I very much like this Genesis as presented by you, Anna.

Your camera and sound teams seems professionel.
Moreover you allways have funny expressions like "My right foot is not a piece of feather", "I'm not here to nany the throttle", "I'm going to smash the throttel pedal". Who is the author ? You ?
And finally you drove in my region : Cannes, massif of Esterel.

Nice job Anna. Genesis's challenge is of course branding. Most that care about resale if spending $50K USD would choose another brand. Genesis doesn't have the cache of other luxury brands however, they may one day.
Also in America, I wouldn't choose a turbo diesel however they do exist in the US, albeit quite rare and diesel fuel more associated with large trucks....I know in Europe with higher gas prices, diesel and fuel economy and lower displacement are more prevalent.
On the subject of 4WD, greater long term maintenance cost, poorer fuel economy, parasitic driveline loss, more weight etc. Don't need 4WD in southern US but comes in handy in snowy northern climates.
No question a nice car and reminiscent of a station wagon of decades past that pre-dated SUV's.
    Nice review as always.

I love that "How you bloody adjust your seat" Well I think you know what I think about the G70 Shooting Brake as you know I'm a sucker for estate/ shooting brake and I'm a fan of Genesis. I think this is the first review I seen with any of the Genesis in a diesel and it good to see. The diesel engine doesn't sound too bad at all. MPG not too bad but I've done better with my A7 3.0 bi turbo V6 on a long journey mostly on motorway and on cruise control and on comfort most of the time so it was kinda nannying the throttle a bit. Me and my friend saw the G70 Shooting Brake at London showroom. It looked stunning but it was in black and had the same colour interior but it looks better in that red but I totally agree with you it needs a lighter colour interior to lighten the mood. I would go for white or a creamy interior with orange or gold ish stitching but that wouldn't go with the red exterior but it would be good for a green or maybe a purple ish colour paint, but with that red you want to have matching stitching and seatbelts then I probably go for the half and half that Genesis does, seats and lower half in a cream or white red stitching and seatbelts upper half in that black or dark but I think it needs a panoramic sunroof to lighten the it. But that just me. I must admit I really like the rear doors windows it kinda hides the estate looks from the interior from what you shown on the review. All in all the G70 Shooting Brake is a definite winner winner chicken dinner.
Great review Anna. Thank you for all these brilliant videos and content that you created. I wish you all the success and happiness. I'll have to love ya and leave ya. All the best and keep being you Anna. :-)

Winner winner chicken dinner! ;-) Thank you Jason ❤️ Oh I like the idea of creme interior with orange stitching, even with black paint colour! That could look so elegant yet so unique!
That diesel engine is good and I was so happy to have it as I've had this car for nearly a month, I've done a lot of driving through Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and Monaco. And it was absolutely brilliant!

@@AnnaOnRoads Yes that idea sounds very classy black paint colour with the creme interior and orange stitching. I like that indeed.
Sounds like the diesel engine is a good engine if you're happy with it on all roads and terrain. Well no one can say you don't fully test these cars going through all those countries.
Take care and all the best Anna. :-)

Anna…an interesting review as always. In the U.K. this is a hard car to sell…a diesel non suv from a firm nobody has ever heard of and no network of dealers to see it, service or fix it. I have just priced up a well optioned version at £51453….that colour is not available here so I chose metallic blue. Yes it has that Servicing Package and I think is a well made car that actually delivers something very attractive…well specified, good performance, superb economy, space, some style and is actually all the car 90% of real world people want…it should fly out of the showrooms…..but it never will…the whole concept is dead in the U.K. and a 2.2 diesel is no longer considered acceptable so poor Genesis is going to battle to sell it here. However….there is a thought…at £51453…that is far less than any competition out there…an EV of comparable size is £70/80,000 and they loose value like a stone….50% in two years or less…..so whilst buying a GV70 SB is on the surface a crazy decision, if you did keep it 10 years and scrap it then perhaps it works out after all. A decision that only the brave and undemanding will take…maybe the best car that nobody ever bought?? Safe driving Anna….😃😃😃😃

Another top review Anna. Once again the perfect blend of information and just the right amount of humour like, "Winner winner sausage dinner". I love the plum colour of the car with the chrome trimmings contrasting very well. I like the look and the blend of practicality and comfort. Getting the balance right is certainly not "Easy peasey lemon squeezy", but Genesis (the car not the group), have done a pretty good job all round. As usual brilliant presentation, production and editing. Many thanks for sharing.

Anna, you're being too modest; it's not the car that's turning heads. That said, I do prefer it to an SUV. I agree a lighter interior would be nicer. I'm not really a fan of black, especially for leather seats. I'm also one of those people who don't consider diesel as suitable for premium cars.

Hi Anna. Genesis is sold here in Australia including the G70 though we don't get the diesel version. However we do get the Sport model with the same engine that was used in the Kia Stinger. If I was to buy a new car, Genesis would definitely be on my radar as well as Lexus. BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi are in my opinion over rated. Great cars to drive but I cannot justify their cost especially when there are alternatives such as Genesis which provide great value for the money. I really like the cabin functions that you demonstrated in this video. The reliance on touchscreens in some vehicles for functions such as climate control and radio/music etc are no benefit to the driver and in some cases make driving more dangerous. Thanks for sharing.

    • @AnnaOnRoads

Hi Tom, I will be launching my start up CarMatch and one of my pilot markets is Australia ❤️ which I personally love and miss dearly. So I got very familiar with all the stats, models and pricing ;-)
Kia Stinger was a fantastic car, I loved how heavy yet powerful it was so i think it's a great engine choice for the G70. Genesis, Lexus are brands to consider nowadays, I completely agree. The Germans have rested on their laurels a little and their pricing is just not competitive at all.
I did find the physical buttons very handy and far more practical when driving on a busy road or even doing long distances. I've had this car for nearly a month and have absolutely fallen in love with it.

Hi Anna! Nice to see you again. I Googled whether the Genesis is available for purchase in Sweden, but it is not possible and according to the German general agent, there is no intention of reselling the car in Sweden.
When I see the Genesis grill, I thought that you can joke and put an S in the middle of the grill, so people would think this was Superman's car, because the shape of the grill resembles Superman's logo.
I think it's a beautiful red color but I would have chosen light fittings as it gives a more luxurious feeling than black. For Genesis, everything is thought to be Hundai's luxury brand, and then the interior should reflect that.
Anna what I'm wondering about, something you didn't mention in the movie and that was how was the rear view? given the roof shape and the spoiler over the rear window.
A while ago I saw a Korian type mafia movie and in it they drove an even more luxurious Genesis, I don't know what that model is called but the shape of the grill revealed that it was a Genesis.
PS! As usual, you dress elegantly and the suit suited the car.

That roofline is too forced. It was a nice attempt, and as a huge fan of the long roofed automobile, I must award great applause and appreciation for even jumping into the oft frigid pool of alternative body styles. Thank you Genesis, and I award this trophy in word form to bolster your resolve for your next foray into the STATION WAGON body shape. A shooting brake is a two side door, hatch configuration, only, and I’m looking at you Mercedes. Just because you apply a coupe roofline to a sedan, you can’t morph etymology by your will and short term marketing department gone desperate. Call it coupe-like till you are out of breath, and that is a worthy cause. But, BECAUSE words matter, this cause matters, and I will never deride such an exercise to the point of exclusion. Get it better. Next time. Think Dodge Magnum, Porsche Panamera Tourismo, not so much CTS-V. Too my own self-appointed status as calling a form by its actual rather than biased status, I can attest to this: as the owner of a Dodge Magnum RT, bought new, drooled over, in Brilliant Black, or course, because Brilliant Black is ALL of the colors, while Black is devoid of color, I was bestowed with an actual AND daydream of a car. I also owned a 1968 Ford Country Squire, one of f the most handsome, muscular, beautiful, and elegant cars ever to have been sculpted by mortal hand. I also have a truly coveted spot in my heart, mind, and soul, for Mercedes, and once owned a 1995 E320 wagon. I loved the way the Merc drove, handled, looked, and felt overall. But I loved the character and style of the Squire. But it rode a tad too firm with its heavy duty suspension, yet had torque for days with its 390 cubic inch V8. It’s idle was lumpy, and the car’s overall character has never been matched, with nary a competitor. If only, if ONLY, Mercedes would make a bigger, more muscular, more powerful, quicker, better riding and handling, more unique and striking station wagon, with modern underpinnings, my dream would come true. At 6’ 4”, 230 lbs, I NEED, a large car. My prerequisites? Set driver ‘s seat for myself, sit behind driver’s seat and still be comfortable. 120” wheelbase, or as close as is practice. 300+ horsepower, more is ALWAYS better. Mercedes E or S Class handling. Looks and style to die for. That was in 1997. Lo and behold, Mercedes buys Chrysler, and one of the many offspring is the Chrysler LX platform, a stretched chassis derived from the E-Class front, and S- Class rear, replete with E Class electrical and interior architecture, suspension is E class up front, S Class in the rear, 120” wheelbase, and with not one but TWO V8 options, the 340HP/390Ftlbs RT, and the 425HP/430ftlbs SRT8 models. The Chrysler 300 sedan was first, with its muscular yet Bentley-esque visage, then came my baby, the Magnum, all muscle and brawn in wagon form, stolen directly from my dreams and daydreams, before finally the Charger, an exercise in styling desperation made doable in SRT8 form, before ensuing restyles finally got it right. So when Porsche made the Panamera sedan, it reminded me of the mistakes Dodge made with the Charger. Desperation channeled with executive push for A four door sedan in 911 form ended up a compromised and stretched. 911 as if a taffy version of a 911 was literally stretched and swapped its rear hung boxer slug forward to the front engined V6 and V8 mills of the Panamera. WOW. SOMEONE was asleep at the wheel. But a later refresh brought a much improved roofline which hid the desperation within. THEN came the Panamera Sport Tourismo. “What light through yonder window breaks? It is Bavaria, and Tourismo is the sun! Arise fair Tourismo, and kill the envious Panamera. Who is already sick and pale with grief that thou her maid is FAR more fair than she.” So, I go to the Porsche build-a-car site, and with anvil, hammer, palette, brush, needle and mind’s eye, form an unforeseen dream of a vehicle beyond the future. Near Hellcat power, opulence unmatched, with astounding appointments in hide and veneer, jaw dropping, heart attack inducing, unlit I saw the pricetag. Well. Aren’t we proud of ourselves? Indeed. So I did what any pragmatic mortal male would do. Took out the dick pics and did a side by side comparison. And guess what? The Magnum took the honors. More muscular, more tasteful, yet slightly vulgar, just enough mind you, to suit my ever-so-slightly-vulgar tastes, less ostentatious, yet still shouting for a glance, which is ALWAYS rewarded with adoration, and for 1/10 the price, I could and would choose my car, even if price was truly no object. For that price, I would make a Hellcat Magnum. Brilliant Black. But of course. Why pick A color when you can have ALL of them. In reality, the paint code for Brilliant Black, when shown as its ingredients to make a match, includes roughly 14 different ingredients. Black paint is generally undershaded with red or blue to give its hue, and with this can be other hues to bring depth. The pearlescent quality comes from tiny chips of mica, themselves colored, with several shades, red, purple, blue, brown, green, all combined to produce a subtle yet striking iridescence which I find sublime, to say the least. When I’m know for saying the most. Fare thee well. A four door wagon is not a shooting brake.

Genesis will not be available in other European countries (outside UK, Germany and Switzerland) before at least 2026, because Genesis wants to open more outlets in the UK and Germany.

A shooting brake term actually refer to the shape of a car, just like a coupé. This terminology isn't set in stone. Some people are though.

Genesis has a good value for money proposition but their design is just off...it's very strange and weird, they've gone for something that tries to be unique but the result is not there. This is typical of asian brands when they want to be different but most of the time they fail big time. Fix that and the brand could have a much more successful future.

  • @andrewhigdon8346

With all due respect, a shooting brake is a two-door wagon. The wagon nomenclature, much to the derision of European snobbery, is historically and categorically more accurate, despite the less than elitist nomenclature. Indeed, a wagon is that which is used to shuttle the accoutrements de la riche, both pre- automobile and present. An estate is simply a more sophistique’ appellation for such a conveyance. The station, of course, would be the train station, which was the preferred, if not only method of transport for the well heeled. Roads and bumps and twisty ribbons of non-fluid undulations were simply too vulgar for such elite semi- mortals. Your portions and accoutrements were shuttled from the “station” to the “estate” via the “wagon”. Me sees such a snobbish trajectory as quite travail inutile. It is, after all, despite ANY protestations, s station wagon. The shooting brake should be called the shooting break, as its origin in the “breaking” of young stallions was mandatory amongst those of such means, a heavily built carriage turned wagon loaded as needed to subdue the wild beast until submission was response , not of choice. These wagons were often the choice support of hunting, ne’, shooting parties, as the status imbued by such opulent discharge of power via long barrel set the undue and unsightly labor of actually deceased animals a rung too removed from the ladder of social-political ventures. The word “break”, as used when “making civil the wild equine beast” indeed morphed into “brake”, which to this narrator is a step backwards in sophistication and just another example of how the elite unknowingly employ the trappings of distasteful and sordid etymology via gross ignorance and a lemur-like accordance with their categorically ignorant and in-bred fellows. L’argent ne peut pas acheter l’intelligence.
