That ceiling hit is way to hard. Please turn up the volume on your audio interface, headphones or whatever knob outside of fl you can find so you automatically stay away from hitting 0db. Going above 0db isn't a problem when you export to 32bit float AND are planning on sending your mix to a mastering engineer who knows what he is doing and if your plan is to send your stemms to a mixing engineer, I guess my entire comment is kinda invalid, but if that is not your plan, then leave the master channel empty, mix way below 0db and only at the end, increase the loudness with a limiter with a ceiling set to -1db (-1.1 if the limiter isn't using truepeak) this will prevent: -your mix sounding like a wall -elements sounding way different and changing volume drastically depending on what elements are playing -transients getting swallowed and drums sounding weak -you from just making everything louder instead of properly taking care of masking Also, I would not recommend using the fruity limiter but if it's all you have, then make sure you tweak the attack and release settings.
im not actually turning up the ceiling on the limiter for volume or loudness, im using a compressor before the limiter (stock fl yes i know) to do the limiters job of transient control by just overdoing it ( 3.2 ratio, 81 ms attck , 300 release threshold -17.2 db gain + 5.2db) im using the limiter to literally let every single thing flow out, then control with saturation within the limiter and then later on in the master chain 2 instances of maximus. i do recognize im destroying parts of the transients with the soft clipping im doing, but thats kind of the point with soft clipping on my chain; i want the 808 to be powerful. i know im bound to be doing something completely wrong but i think it accomplishes the job successfully, maybe not the most efficient/quality, but i like it enough to keep it as is. just putting it out there, im completely self taught, really i have no idea what im doing, i just like pretty sounds; not at all a pro thanks for leaving a comment, i appreciate the feedback! :D
it’s just oneshots from my stash kit; no vst. if u mean the vocal chain the non native fl studio ones are antares auto tune 8.1, fab filter pro-q3 equalizer, vocal splitter from w.a productions, and surgext fx. outside of that it’s fruity limiter, compressor, maximus, sound goodizer, and fruity reverb 2
