Second of all, I love the video, my friends, who know I'm obsessed with the game sent it to me, and yeah you made it as entertaining as this run could be lmao. a couple things of note regarding the run itself of course (this is for the PC version of the game) 1st, the paintings, depending on how many colors you use in each painting, you will get a different time multiplier, an extra x0.05 seconds for each additional color, with a max of x0.25. 2nd, the never ending notebook does not actually give you the minute skip off of your counter, it only does for IIRC the first 100 or so pages. 3rd, how long did you spend playing the instrument that one day??? i set up time for each day to play it for around 4-6 hours each day, and i can only knock off 50 in game days from the timer, the switch port must be a very different game than the pc version if you can beat the game in 34 hours, my best try (before something in my recording software breaks) lands me at about 10 DAYS. again, i love the video, and i hope your channel keeps growing :)
@nathanrees1357 glad to see another speedrunner! All my footage is on my second channel, @GeosageArchives so you can see it. Tue instrument playing took a total of about 30 hours, but I took breaks according to Speedrun.com's rules, saying you can pause the timer while in the halls of eternity. All that said, I'm convinced that the switch version is just faster, because instead of using the mouse to click in 4 locations, you only need to press 4 buttons in rapid succession. Maybe you could achieve the same from playing on controller on PC, but I don't know for sure. Keep up the good work!!
You can play the instrument on controller on PC version of the game, but it's a little different since, for some reason, the dpad-up doesn't work on PC version. I recently figured out the way though. Firstly, you have to position your mouse cursor where you play the second note (slightly above Shade). Then you have to press dpad-right, move your left stick in any direction, dpad-down and dpad-left (and then repeat). When testing, I was able to skip 1 day in around 2.5 minutes without any decorations in my home. Playing on controller is much faster, I saved TWO AND A HALF minutes in Any% category, even though I lost around 30 seconds to stupid mistakes and most of the timesave came from playing the instrument in that way. I advice you to remap the buttons in the Steam Controller settings to something less tiring (I don't know if it isn't against the rules tho). Yeah, it's insane! The most wild thing to me is that to truly get an optimal time, you'd need to be constantly playing the instrument. And even then, if someone else with more determination tried the run and was able to press buttons just slightly faster, they could take it. In theory, anyone with enough desire could beat the world record no matter how good it becomes.

I bought this game soon after that video you mentioned came out however before i knew it 400 days had passed. So i redownloaded it and started again as i hadnt really experienced much of the game, but that was two years ago now so i guess i have to try again 😂
I blacked out a second and forgot what I was doing. I looked at my phone and realized I was watching this video. It wasn't even half way though the speed run. Like gosh dang this is the longest Speedrun ever.
the summoningsalt video on this game is gonna be wild "...and then just as the speed running community thought it couldn't get any better... J-splat69xxx shows up and shaves a staggering 38 frames off the total time of 39 hrs 45 minutes and 23.457 seconds"
Did some basic testing using macros from Steam Input for a wired Xbox Series controller and found that the game will only allow at most 2 music skips per second, but the average time skipping seems closer to 15-18 min/s instead of the 20+ you'd want. I had left trigger full pulls set to cycle through dpad right, LStick down (with the cursor in the right spot for that note), dpad down, and dpad right with the minimum turbo rate of 10ms (this seems to be where the 2 skips per sec limit is coming from btw). I was able to get 2 skips more consistently using a Steam Controller wirelessly with it's proprietary dongle though, so that's nice. This brings the theoretical minimum to 8-9.5 hours for just doing music, holding down the macro button the whole time if you don't have it set to toggle. Also mildly interesting is that music spam seems to remove 3-8 seconds at random from the timer, though no idea why. It's kinda annoying that I can't get keyboard inputs to play more than the 1 note for the cursor position, cause then I could use a macro I made in Logitech Gaming Software to input something like 4,000 inputs per second. Can't find a good non-steam way to get gamepad macros to work either, cause the game doesn't seem to like/allow note-spam EXCEPT through gamepad macros.
Hey i created a macro script to try out what you calculated towards the end i made a video about it on my channel if you wanna know about the details but i can say sadly theres some sorta cooldown that prevents you of pressing too many inputs at a rapid pace so the maximum amount of inputs that i could get was 4 inputs every 1.77 seconds
the input delay is much less if you use controller inputs to play the instrument instead of mnk. So far I can get 4 inputs per 119 ms. I could probably cut it down to an input per frame but the software I'm using does delay by milliseconds not microseconds and if I go under an input per frame it gets janky and misses inputs
"Alright, let's see the 1st one" *longest game ever* "Well shit..." At least you're a man of your word. You get a sub for not b!tchin out. 👍 you could have lied and no one would have known. Or you could have left it off the wheel. Props.
Nah man i just forgot about this game for two years straight and only three days ago i opened it again, completed the worst possible ending and started the cycle again. Totally worth it.
YESSSSSSSS This masterpiece needs to be talked about more. The way it's so cozy, allows you to breathe and take your time in a world that seems to always been in a hurry, and how it gets you to think. Just sit and think about what you would do if you were stuck underground for 400 days and some old man's "just trust me bro." This game holds a special place in my heart and once I'm done with the final ending, I plan to start all over again and let the Shade's dark chocolate home whisk me away.
Imagine the playtesting for this game lmao “Ight I’ll join back in a week and see if the bug where the stalactite wouldn’t fall is still there” *joins back* *glitch still exists* “Ight, time to spend another year getting to this point! Surely this new patch works!”
I had a really stressful factory job a few years back. I played the game every day in bed after work. It's such a stress relief. Just watching my little dude walking through the beautiful cave system is extremely calming.
ok so I saw the 200,000 button presses and thought "that doesn't seem like that many tbh." If you were to consistently press 10 buttons per second(not unreasonable considering you could be using multiple hands), it would only take 5 and a half hours. Realistically, that's probably stretched to 6 or 7, but still doesn't seem that bad. I haven't watch much past the point where you said it was unviable, so I'll edit this if something else comes up. Edit: Ah

I honestly don't care for speedrunning, but that Partitio theme towards the end has earned a like from me.
@@splitirisbear4589 it's such a bop!
A game that contains the entirety of The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is a game I can't hate.

I am…frankly flabbergasted. I’ve been a fan for a very long time but only a couple months ago made a RUclips account. Seeeing one of my favorite RUclipsrs get so much recognition….wow. I’m Happy for you, Geosage.
Thanks!! It's been amazing!!
@@GeoSage1137must have been a jump from your most viewed video go from being 68k to 1.6M 😂 you’re poppin off!
@@Crimzon0 Not going to lie, it's still hard to believe! But I think it's helped understand the type of content people want to watch, and once the new year starts, I'm hoping that all my videos will have the potential to explode in popularity once again!
@@GeoSage1137 I hope the absolute best for you bro. I remember watching your octopath lore vid on my 13th birthday earlier this year. Btw if it’s not to big of an ask, what’s your actual name? I get it if it’s to much but I would like to know what to know you as
@Crimzon0 I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed! I'll just stick to going by Geo for now, since my name isn't very unique.
dude i watched that 9600 hour long game video when it released like 3-4 years ago and now we get this video as a spiritual successor this is cool dude

I LOVE YOU FOR USING THAT BACKGROUND MUSIC ❤️
Fr i used to Play yokai watch Like 5 times a day when i was 9 and I want these days back so hearing this soundtrack made me kind of nostalgic
Incredible that you can honestly say you shaved over a year off the original time, and still have hours of room for improvement
I discovered the longing trough your video and I thank you so so much for that!!!
@@Dimension2364 glad you found the game! It's a gem that some people despise and others love, so I'm glad I could spread the word!
Oh cool, I know the Longing!
I worked in the same building as the guys who made this lol. They rent a tiny room in Studio Film Bilder's floor. They're nice guys :D
love that youtube recomended me this video. great job geo!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I couldn't imagine being the mod to verify this.
Yeah, I feel bad for them, even after doing the run myself.
Damn Man finally RUclips is giving the attention you deserve! I hope you keep making these numbers and maybe when your next tomodachi video will came out, we'll probably make the community even bigger!
Finally, someone commited to the bit
Mom: It’s time for dinner!
Me: Just a second I’m speedrunning a game.
Mom: Ok, promise me you’ll be done in just a few minutes.

How do corpses make noise again?
That game must have an extraordinary story with this gameplay to be allowed to see the light of day.
@un1kum42 I'd reccomend it. The gameplay can be slow, but it's relaxing
The puzzles are kinda hard to figure out and you will most likely get spoiled when looking up hints.
Plus there is only one worthy ending and you have to replay the whole thing to get another one meaning that looking up a guide is the only way to do it.
Dude, this is friggen impressive!!! This game is like... 80 times slower than usual games. I can't imagine how bored you could've been halfway through. That's dedication!!
If speedrunning the longing is moderate sane behavior im afraid of what you would call insane
Honestly, Gamechamp3000 is the definition of insanity to me. I aspire to one day get on their level!
Speedrunning Pokemon Go without money.
10 minutes to mine a rock in game made me upset lol. That timer on top running in mostly real life time was wild and made me empathize with you over each little hurdle or walk way more hah. I enjoyed seeing all the unique endings this game has to offer a while back, thanks for the fun montage and showcasing just how fast a person could beat this game without any other software :D
Congrats on the video popping off too!
@@KalebSDay Thanks! It's meant to be a game where you AFK a lot, being patient and all that, do I can't be too annoyed at the long mining times. But man, they're a time loss lol
Pretty meaningless comment but i do admit your pfp reminded of me of when i first played hk. When i didnt understand the wayward compass jokes. As many people say, i really wish i could experience it again from scratch like the first time without any spoilers (i didnt spoil much but i spoiled some stuff like radiance :-( ).
Also, you are pretty underrated! Your content is really good, keep up the good work
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed! And hopefully Silksong will eventually give you that 'first time experience' feeling again, once it comes out in 2043
It will come once you do the 400 days speedrun under 1 hour frfr
@@GeoSage1137 exactly, and if i get anything in my recommended about it im deleting youtube till i beat it
The lengths people will go through to not play an mmorpg.
I enjoy this so much! Amazing content, best wishes to you and your future projects! 🌻
Thank you!!
Speedrunning a Slowwalking game! Genius!
really cool video! i hadnt heard of this game so it was interesting to see how this was set up
Did some basic testing using macros from Steam Input for a wired Xbox Series controller and found that the game will only allow at most 2 music skips per second, but the average time skipping seems closer to 15-18 min/s instead of the 20+ you'd want.
ALMOST A MILLION! Great job. Keep up the goos work.
As someone who absolutely adores this game i love to see this happen
The longing my beloved depression game
i just clicked on the video and got immediately jumpscared by the yokai watch music T-T, anyways cool video! i enjoyed this a lot!

Partitio's theme towards the end! Earned a like and sub for that, nice choice B)
the beginning is on the wiki for "you played yourself"
congrats on blowing up, dude! I can't wait to see what else you make!
I aspire to one day to waste my time on video games like this
Congrats for 1M views in this video!!! I get know your channel for your Octopath Traveler videos ❤❤
"Alright, let's see the 1st one"

At least you're a man of your word.

@@jeshguin_the_final_one thanks!
Imagine the playtesting for this game lmao

Allow me to introduce you to the king of long games. Old School RuneScape, you can try to finish it, but you never will.
34 hours is insane and this is an absolutely brutal punishment. Great video!
this game changed my life. please, all of you, make yourself the favor and play it "normally"
I had a really stressful factory job a few years back. I played the game every day in bed after work. It's such a stress relief. Just watching my little dude walking through the beautiful cave system is extremely calming.
this video is awesome dude. thanks for introducing me to a new game too.
ok so I saw the 200,000 button presses and thought "that doesn't seem like that many tbh." If you were to consistently press 10 buttons per second(not unreasonable considering you could be using multiple hands), it would only take 5 and a half hours. Realistically, that's probably stretched to 6 or 7, but still doesn't seem that bad. I haven't watch much past the point where you said it was unviable, so I'll edit this if something else comes up.
Edit: Ah
Yep! Though my hands are slow and weak. I'm sure a dedicated person could bring it down quite a lot!
Yo-Kai Watch 3 music the moment I click on the video. Peak.
