Yes, I'm wearing gloves. It's up to 30,000 new COVID cases daily outside and I have a little baby at home. I'm sorry if being a responsible parent offends your conspiracy theories.
The reason for releasing this is because it saves on Marketing. If you've noticed, LEGO haven' exactly been doing any risky projects with their auto-lineup, if we exclude the small Speed Champions series. The Beetle, Mini and Fiat 500 are icons of the industry, instantly recognizable whether you're a car enthusiast or not. In fact, their success stemmed from precisely that fact, having attractive designs and offering sufficient functionality that even people who were not particularly fans of their respective brands would consider buying one (the low prices as entry-level cars being a huge help as well). People entering a LEGO store with their kid, even ones not into LEGO themselves, would have the same reaction as someone visiting a VW dealer with a buddy 70 years ago. They'd see something familiar, bright colored and happy-looking and would likely consider buying one, if not right away, then certainly by planning for it. The only thing I'm surprised they did was the Caterham, but even there, the Lotus Mk. 7 was a famous car, and still is a famous car in kit form. The other things were the same: The T1 Camper Van, known world-wide, the DB5 Aston from the James Bond Movies, basically a legend right now, the Mustang (a brand that's been going since '65) or the more recent Dodge Charger from the Fast & Furious franchise (that one being a clear example of a marketing approach, as the '68 or '69 model years are the ones more appreciated by auto enthusiasts in search of pristine Galen Govier reports, while the movie used a 70s model particularly because it would be easier to procure). The Isetta, by comparison, albeit a unique car in its own right, is a curiosity, and not many people know of it outside of car enthusiast groups. You'd sell a few, sure, and the people buying them would certainly appreciate a bit of love being given to such a quirky oddball of a car, but you'd certainly not sell as many of them as you would a Beetle or a 500 (even if the only features they come with are rolling wheels, opening doors and some easel or a surf-board).
