I love the number and realism of functions, but the traverse is a tragedy that should not have been allowed. also no excuse for b model missing, there's so much potential in the inventory.
@Nolan Dines i think that Lego wants to bring new sets more often so for that reason they dont have time to make b models, and as sets are getting bigger, and for that reason have a more specific piece selection, it gets harder for Lego to make b models. Also the price has to be as low as possible so normal people still buy the sets.
The truck body is lovely, I'm not turned off by the colors, and I'm glad it's not black. I'm surprised no one has commented that the crane seems to be a little tall and spindly It really should be a little lower to the deck that it rides on. Other than that, I agree, this is an extremely polished looking model. As much as I enjoy Sariel's motorized builds, I appreciate not having an expensive battery box and motor in a set that will probably end up on my shelf. Sometimes manual control is better. IRL, the operator would be scurrying all over parts of this truck to get stuff done.
yeeeeeah boooy i clicked on RUclips by mistake and was going to go back when the first video i saw was yours in the home page so i am not gonna go back and am going to continue watching you are brilliant
For me the best model this year, winter and summer wave. Great mocing potential great parts. Pneumatic. With all orange sets so far enough to go crazy with orange. Waiting for the typical discount and will buy at least one, probably more😉 But of course without the stickers they are really a bit, or more, over the top.
Detailed review again. Seems like it needs some mods, like the steering ratio. Also a feature to switch between having the winches be moving with a single knob as well as indenpendently would have been nice.
Super excited to get this baby, heavy wreckers/rotators are my favorite type of truck by far. Definitely gotta put an air tank in there somewhere though.
a great technic set. many functions, good price. it has some flaws but overall it's pretty good. I don't like stickers either, but that's not a big deal
The most awaited review (awaited by me, this year)! Great to see this set meets my expectations :D One thing I have to say after watching a lot of Your reviews (and I still will be watching): you review the toys, this one for 11-year-old children, from the position of an adult. E.g. the stickers - you hate them (high-five, but I hate all the stickers), but for 11 YO child they could be great :) Maybe ask few ~11 YO kids, what they think about those stickers? And interior of the cab - hey, it's Technic set, not Creator Expert VW T1/2 ;) I'm pleased with engine complexity, better than in Zetros, where nothnig moves, even fan xD And as you mentioned - the space behind the cab gives opportunity to place a C+ hub there ;) so for me it's a pro feature, that there is no sleeping interior :P But if there was... I would be expecting someone to put there #techniciansback! Now awaiting Ford Raptor review :)
I just bought this, the overall colours and design jumped out on the shelf in a lego stockist, that and all the features with the old school pneumatics.
Pneumatics have really come a long way in Lego technic, I have the Service Truck (42008) and Mercedes-Benz Arocs (42043) and both of their pneumatics took a long time to work (if they worked at all) and didn't stay extended for long. The pneumatics in this set look so responsive and I wish I had them in the past.
I have second-hand 42008 and similar experience with pneumatics in it - cannot say it works flawlessly, rather I would say "harsh" or "with difficulties" and makes it less playable than it could be
Finally something interesting again from Lego again. And if I am honest, this is way better looking than models like the liebherr excavator (the "white box")
I finally caved today and ordered myself this set. I have no clue when I'll be able to build it, or where to display it (all my Technic models have been boxed since moving house 3 years ago), but this is a set I simply do not want to miss out on and I expect it's prices to go up quite a bit in the future. As for the colors: I lik it NOT being yellow or red, or black, the color scheme is quite nice, the stickers are a matter of taste, I kind of like the way they fit with the sort of truck it is.
After watching the 42129 review yesterday the Tow Truck doesn't seem like a bad option anymore... The lack of a B Model is to be expected now, but it's still a drag - this had so much potential!
Truly a useful review. And what were they thinking with the stickers!? they could have easily made two sets of stickers, a trashy one like this and a more reasonable one for those who didn't like the first.
This set is really nice, it has lots of functions and pneumatics! The lack of a B-model, the strange stickers (I was surprised when I saw that orange monster thing with a car, it doesn't seem like something LEGO would do) is not acceptable, as others said, it had so much potential and stickers could definitely be improved. The lack of motorization can be justified with the price as if it were motorized it would probably cost $100 more, but the hand-of-god steering being geared down is a bit odd (it shouldn't be too hard to fix though). Oh well, I guess you can't have everything Thanks for your awesome review of the set, I liked how you went really in-depth and even gave information on the weight and size of the vehicle! I'll definitely be getting this set in the near future! :)
I think this set is going to go really well with the 42098 Car Transporter. They seem to be in the same scale. I actually have to really come to like the sets in that scale. I like that they all function together - the ZR1, the Senna, and the car transporter. Hoping to add this one to the collection as well!
i don't find the colours too bad, but yeah it's one of those sets where i would not consider putting on the "decorative" stickers, esp the ones that go on the sides of the sleeper
Sooooo... Lego does a faithful recreation of actual vehicles, despite being an unlicensed set, thus keeping the price down. LEGO - please, this is great! Do more of this please! Not everything has to be branded for people to care!
I wish this was one of the sets similar to the 2013 service truck that had a motor and a batter box included to upgrade to not use the manual pump and the knobs or be able to be upgraded like the Volvo wheel loader from 2016
For what it’s worth, American style heavy wreckers usually have horrible paint jobs so the stickers aren’t far off. Can’t wait for this good old fashioned technic set. I have had the same pneumatic sticking issue for every pneumatic set from 42043 on.
I've always wondered what music you use in your videos? Great work on the vids by the way. I love watching the part when you do the speed build. For some reason it seems satisfying to me but to others it is not. I have my own Legos that I kinda just build random things with whenever I have an idea. I still love to play with Legos to this day and whatever age I am, I will still play with. Even though it does not matter what age you are which is the cool thing.
Couldn't the gears you use to control the functions have a pin hole besides them to attach a removable crank made out of a axle with a gear and a bean with a small wheel? Would make these controls much easier
Maybe it’s authentic to have a straight 6, but the engine just looks so tiny compared to the rest of the truck, like a cost-saving / they hadn’t figured out how to use bigger pistons.
This is the sort of Technic set I've missed so much since 2016's Summer blowout which had the amazing Bucket Wheel Excavator and Claas Xerion 5000 TRAC VC; great looking model/impressively sized model with a ton of functions for a reasonable price. There have been some good ones since but, outside of the Supercar collection, haven't felt quite as impressive or ambitious or were tied to the rather unpopular Control+ system (the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey is a impressive well priced set, by official retail price, but was canceled). This Heavy-Duty Tow Truck ticks so many boxes; good looks, tons of manual functions, very well priced in all regions and impressive in size. Colour scheme is gonna be hit and miss but I'm fine with it. Having no motor is simultaneously a good thing and something I wished this had; good in that it greatly lowers the cost of this set, given how much Lego is charging for sets that include Powered UP and Control+ motors and components and doesn't interfere with the set's looks. But watching the speed of the functions in this review, I kinda also wished this used the older motors for some of the functions as they are very slow to operate. But they're minor quirks though as this is still so impressive already. However, while it is very well priced, I'm expecting this to get discounted quite heavily and quickly as Technic is very widely available and sadly Technic doesn't do particularly well, relatively. I'll say though, this is still going to be far more successful in the UK and EU than the frankly overpriced Ford F-150 Raptor.
@@RAiNfORAiNbOW I love Technic and used to only buy sets from the theme, but I won't pretend it's the most popular of the themes. It's not that popular generally, as evidenced by the amount of heavy discounts sets from the theme gets. A LOT of the sets tend to get reduced by nearly 50% compared to other sets of equivelent price which don't get so aggressively discounted.
@@AHYL88 I hope more people become aware of it then the technic series is something I cant imagine not having in the toy world. So far all the sets have released have been perfect and they even get more expensive after a while so they are doing good maybe All sets I have from 5+ years cost more second hand now than they did when I bought them new which is a nice feeling ^^
IMO not as clean or polished as the Mac Anthem, but significantly more interesting/feature driven. I find it fun that this is a regularly marketed Technic set set yet looks more difficult to assemble than the 18+ targeted Ford Raptor. I don't normally assemble Technic sets, but this looks too good a model pass up, and the value is one of the best in years.

Thank you, Sariel, for the amazing work, as always! I'm building my set, and as I opened bag #4, I stopped and came to watch your video as something has been bothering me: my steering is backward and is driving (pun intended) me CRAZY!!! I must've made a mistake. In mine, you turn the steering to the left to go right!!! Argh! I wonder if this is a common mistake people make?
I found my mistake, and I'm too far in (@ page 369) to fix it. In page 201, step 307, I have the yellow gear on the left side of that black 'saddle' piece instead of the right side as shown in the book. D'oh!
im worried because i have a long axle piece left over and everything works perfectly fine, it might be an extra part but its still got me scared because its my biggest set ever and i cant take it apart for 1 piece
What engines? You can't put engines in this set, there's no room for them. It's a manually controlled set, just like most Technic sets. Nothing unusual about it.
