Definitely agree that the rectangular windshield is what’s stopping it from being instantly recognisable as the 500, but I think the rest of the build looks excellent
I peronally don't mind inaccuracies in the shapes of sets, so long as they are fairly recognizable. But the quality control of current Lego pieces cannot be tolerated. We are paying a premium for the sets and the prices are always on the rise, but we're certainly not getting a premium product anymore. I can barely justify the price of this awesome set as it is, but if I'm also gambling with the hope that it won't be defective........the price immediately seems unjustified. I had a similar problem with the Harry Potter clock tower set.......it's not ok.....
@@brianhilligoss you're correct, the price per piece is constant, but they're cramming smaller and smaller pieces into sets, adding needless complexity and making them over-engineered, making the sets ultimately smaller for the same price. I was just watching "The Castle of Cagliostro" (awesome classic anime), and if anyone notices, this is exactly the same car Lupin and Jigen uses, including the same colour. Would be definitely cool for Lupin fans as well. Too bad I'm not a Creator car collector, I'm more into lego Star Wars sets. If I were, I would also get the Mustang, and the mini cooper, and perhaps the Land Rover, but gotta save on SW sets. lol!
Lego should totally do a Creator expert scale of the classic late 2000s early 2010s lego city car. It would be really cool to see more detail put into the simple but recognizable vehicle, and it would be nostalgic for many lego fans, including me!
Wow, check out the red Fiat 500 on the Ideas page, it looks way more like the actual car. Don't know about how sturdy and all that it would be, but so many shapes are better...the rounded roof, the rounded front of the bonnet, the rounded windscreen area by not using any actual windscreen piece...the batmobile got its own unique windscreen piece, why not the Fiat? Oh, and it has mirrors at the sides! Why are they missing here?

If Lego is gonna cut down on their QC of the plastic, they shouldn't be charging the prices they do for it, that level of color inconsistency is pretty horrendous
This was the first time they made a lot of pieces in this colour, they probably weren’t able to check every piece. This will likely improve soon enough.
@@tedioustotoro4885 I image the differences for the same color, which we see in more and more sets and not only this specific one, has also to do with more and more production sites of Lego parts being in different countries. That makes it harder to get same quality of "ingredients" across the globe. Additionally slaking QC is always an indication that the company is in trouble, which Lego currently is despite rising sales figures which comes from selling more expensive sets than ever.
@@tedioustotoro4885 Be that as it may, there is no excuse for that. At the prices they command for what is essentially a bit of plastic it's their job to make the QC work. If they have to send samples of multiple production sites to HQ to makes sure the color is consistent, then they better do exactly that.
Still waiting for that 1989 Batmobile Review, even though i have it myself already. I personally was a bit mroe lucky with the color differences between pieces, for me only the 1x8s were a tad darker, but not too much. I had some scratched Hub Cabs though, but i ended up ordering new ones via Bricks N Pieces, wanted more shiny ones for my VW Camper as well anyways. And i plan to add them to the VW Bug with some mounting putty to make it look proper.
Your discussion on color variations make me glad to be colorblind hahaha I just finished this build myself and loved it, but definitely did not notice any color issues haha
Great model, but the color inconsistancies are bad. Especially. Since LEGO is talking about their "great qualtity" while other brands are becoming better for a lower price.
The colour inconsistency especially with bright parts seems to have been a thing for a while. The white parts on both my Speed Champions 919 and 911 RSR vary and were in general not as white as they should be (much darker than the stickers) even when new, and those sets are from ~two years ago.
I built this model past weekend and loved it. It is so cool how they were able to make the curves work. Agree with the assessment that there stuff to be desired (functional steering) i like the trunk and painting, but the easel is a bit weird. The color issues are true in my set too. It is a proper color for the 500 from that era though otherwise it would have been light azure or regular red to stay in theme
The worse part is that they even pick the regular angle that actually amplifies the square front of the car. I think they choose the color because it is the classic/iconic color for the 500.
On the subject of colour variations in Lego these days, I recently got the Ghostbusters Eco-1 and some of white parts in that and much more yellowish white than other parts, which are brighter! It’s almost like it’s made with old, sun-yellowed parts! The quality is definitely not up to standard these days like it was with older sets.
Totally agree with the windscreen. A special part it should be. During watching, i realized a second solution: put 2 of these rear side windows contrariwise together as a front - obviosly, this would result blocky with some scratches, but round corners, as it used to be!
I totally get what you mean about quality control man, I got this set on release and the windscreen part had this massive score across it while also having some slight colour difference like yourself.
I have all the Creator Expert series cars including the Caterham 7 Ideas set, so this was a must purchase. The colour difference was immediate to me too and as someone who adores these sets, disappointing. Ironically the black discolouration on the doors of Jang’s example is a mirror of mine. These were the worst by far - similar pieces being used for the rear engine cover and roof were of better quality. This points to the bag of parts production run perhaps. Anyway, 3 of these offending door pieces (equivalent parts) are covered in stickers on the engine cover, so I worked my magic to hide the worst ones as best as I could. The interior ignition key sticker also hides a part, but I’d already applied the sticker, so missed this opportunity. At the price point of the set, I really shouldn’t have needed to have taken such steps. I love the set overall, but as Jang rightly says, Lego need to do more evaluation on what consumers want and in their quality control. Sets like this are more often than not display pieces, getting the basics right is vital. As always, a level-headed and honest review Sir Jang.
