  • @Just-SomeGuy

The back stretch at the end is indeed very good. It won't necessarily *fix* you, but it does help a lot.
I did a similar one yesterday in Pilates where you lie on your back, bend your knee (eg right) (left leg flat on the floor), lay your right arm straight out to the side and use your left arm to pull your right knee gently across your body to the left side. Reverse everything for the other side. The important thing is to keep the shoulder blades on the floor.
Leaning sideways and running your hand down your leg is also very good.
Another is to get on hands and knees and make your back arch like a cat whilst tucking your head in, then make your back concave and tilt your head up.
Another is to take your arm and hold it as horizontal as possible over your head whilst curling your torso (not hips) sideways, but not bending forward or back. This really stretches out your muscles in the side of your back.
I frequently do roll downs too. When standing, you curl your head down towards the floor with arms hanging loose in front of you. The key is to keep the head as close to your body as you can as you go down.

I’ve tried this exercise and I must admit it made my sore lower back 60% better for the time being but I know it’ll come back after few hours . I’m not not being pessimistic here but I’ve tried all these exercises for many years! I guess it will vary from one person to another depending on the severity of their symptoms.
I have been suffering which I think from Sacro-iliac joint pain (or something similar, lower left part of the back) for about 20y now and tried many different treatments (you name it & the answer most likely be ‘YES’) but nothing seem to be working fully other than a temporary fix. Many specialists I’ve seen over the years and after many MRI scans, they came up with different diagnosis but to date nobody could tell me for certain the real ‘Cause’ or ‘Symptom’ and the right treatment. I wake up every morning with severe pain and takes good couple of hours before I can do anything but the pain in that particular spot is ‘constant’...I’m on really strong pain killers and without I won’t be able to carry out my day to day work which not a manual labour but work in an office. I’m not happy being on medication which I know the risks and certainly not good for my internal organs and I’m not getting younger (46y old) If if somebody can share some thoughts or ideas that would be very helpful. Thank you.

i have had a lot of back issues. I even had an operation on my back. I have been to and everything. These problems started when i was about 22 or so. I am 33 now and after the operation I do have more good days than bad days. Dr Oz did not mention that back problems can cause leg problems as well. I had a slipped disc, it fell on to a nerve and would shoot massive pain down my leg. However, the real thing i want to comment on is that i never thought of doing the back excercises at work (i am a toddler teacher.) That leg thing is deffinately something the kids co do as part of learning gross motor skils. This is pretty great.....not if only i hadn't decided to shovel 18 inches of snow off my driveway by myself. I wonder if Dr Oz has a snow solution that won't cost me a bunch of money i don't have!!!

Just thought of sharing my experience.

this is my second rodeo with sciatica, had it ten years before i figured it out, stretching relieved pain, so i raised foot of bed about eighteen inches, secured my feet, body weight provided the stretch that allows space for disc to heal, eight weeks later could feel the heal complete by itch. it takes time , crutches to get around. dont agravate .. five years later came back last may, november now much better, slight sorenes remains .. if i had kept stretching not have come back..know it works.. by trial and error found that inner tube tyed to both ends of bed posts, slightly inflated then tied tight in middle, stick feet in sideways, straighten feet! this holds feet confortable, sleep that way,even..flexing feet up and down against resistance of inner tube helps alot.some folks have trouble with high blood presr weight and pullys wight work instead..good luck!

I have to do a bunch of back exercises, twice everyday, so that the pain isn't constant.

Here’s the problem, the healthcare system doesn’t focus on cure or fix. Which is the ligaments in surgery you see surgeons focus on the disc ignoring the ligaments thus why back surgery fails so often. If you truly want an end to pain go to a reputable prolotherapy clinic repair the ligaments and pain is done

These are great for lower back, what can I do for my mid-back pain? Imagine a dagger half way up (or down) the spine and that's my every day. Pain ranges from a 2 (dull) to a 6 or 7 (quite painful) as the day progresses. I sit for about an hour, then stand for about an hour at work every day.
What works best for mid back? Aleve helps take a bit of the edge off, as does Tylenol.

Hello! I am a gymnast and have mid back pain sometimes. Laying on the edge of my bed with my head and upper back over the edge helps as a mild stretch but stand facing away from a wall and put your hands in the wall. If this hurts a bit hold it for a few seconds and try again. If it doesn’t walk your hands down until you feel a stretch :)

Thats a pretty good stretch, but just getting up and being active is probably more important. All about the 20/20/20 rule of posture.
