Reviewing the Curt Echo Bluetooth Smart Phone trailer brake controller. Many SUV's and trucks don't

- Bonus: At 15 minutes, we show how we adjust gain on a brake controller. About 30% of the SUV's and trucks don't have a factory brake controller. It's all about safe trailering, controlling sway, mountain curves, snow and rain means you need to brake the trailer without the truck to avoid dangerous trailer sway. Curt Echo is easy to install, just plug it in your truck and plug the trailer into it. It works off your smart phone. We demonstrate is with my Apple 13 Pro. Just sync your phone to the Echo with the code that comes with the Echo so you're only controlling your trailer and no one else is controlling yours. In your phone app, you set the profile for up to 5 trailers. Set the gain and sensitivity for each trailer profile. There is a big orange button on the phone app to brake just your trailer and stop road sway. The Echo has a 3-axis motion sensing accelerometer for control. No tools install, just takes 15 minutes and you're ready for safe trailering. It securely attaches to your factory trailer plug on most SUV's and trucks. www.curtmfg.co... #Trailering #MrTruckReview, blue tooth phone trailer brake controller, wireless brake controller, curt echo wireless brake controller
I have been reading the reviews on this product and while most I’ve found were positive, some were a little negative. Based on Mr Truck’s review, I will purchase one here in Canada. I don’t know the man but having watched him on this site and the TFL site, my instincts tell me he is legit and would not promote or sell a substandard product.
Thanks
Thanks for doing this, really helped!
You bet
I still got question. The gain setting adjusts how much braking. Ok. But does that braking power is triggered automatically when the vehicle brake pedal is depressed?
The manual gain setting is the same as the gain setting you set on the app. The only brake controller that I know of that goes max gain when you grab the manual trigger, is Tuson DirecLink controller
@@MrTruckTV are the trailer brakes activated when the car brake pedal is pushed or only with the button in the app?
@@davidtolentino4755 Yes, the truck foot brake will trigger the Echo trailer brake controller
I spent a couple hours trying to get this to work to no avail. If you Bluetooth on the phone pairs with it the app won’t work. Unlike any other connected Bluetooth the phone won’t let me “forget this device”. Then it says no trailer connected.” There is and my old controller worked until I removed it.
That does happen sometimes, It works for me. TFL truck tried them and it didn't work for them
You’re the truck guy so I’m asking you. I’ve seen a few of your videos and I noticed your chains are hooked onto the truck from the top. I was always told to hook them from under. What is the correct way? Thanks love your videos.
It could be slightly better coming in from the top
Thank you
You're welcome
I have a 2022 Ridgeline Black Edition. If using this brake controller do I need to disable anything first?
Hi, you're best bet would be to contact Curt or a Curt dealer
No
Now it’s 2023 , does it still work ? Would you recommend it ?
Yes
@@MrTruckTV awesome and thanks for taking the time to answer
@@acguevara7047 Sure
We've had it for a year and it sucks!!. Too often when I hit the brakes like getting off the frwy, it doesn't work. Then I'm on the street and it works. We absolutely hate it.
So the trailer needs to be connected to the Echo for it to pair?
Yes
Thanks for the reply Mr. Truck I appreciate it! Got one to tow with we will see how it goes.
great@@dmurray91
Do not buy unless you do your own strap. That cheap rubber one they give you does not hold so it will fall off and there goes your $289.00 down the road!!!
I've been lucky, but a thicker strap is a good idea
I’m thinking reusable zip ties @lynn, a friend of mine also bought one and said zip ties reassured him.
👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks
We are putting this in a new jeep wagoner and towing our trailer to grand lake Colorado this summer. Do you have any problems losing connection with the blue tooth/phone? Have you used this on the Ike gauntlet?
@@codybell4317 I've got two of them with now problems. Andre said that TFL tried one and couldn't get the signal. I'm had many problem with Ram trucks factory brake controller from Continental. So my experience says the Echo is better than what you would have got, if you had the factory installed brake controller.
@@MrTruckTV thank you and now we didn’t have that option. I actually drive a Ram 1500 and the factory controller after driving over 300 miles says to have the electronic brake control serviced. Is that the problems you are speaking of?
@@codybell4317 No more more severe, on heavy trailers it doesn't brake enough, on lighter trailers if brakes too much. I recomend to people with factory Ram brake controllers to unplug it and plug in a DirecLink or Prodigy 3.
