You have a great point there. We discussed the idea of putting a piece of glass or acrylic on top of the table if this were something being used in a living room. Then you could engrave the names of the streets as an overlay layer to the map.
iKea typically makes it's furniture using a particleboard veneer type material during the manufacturing process. The furniture usually has a strong cardboard core with 1/8" (3.175 mm) particleboard panel applied to the outside of the core for added strength.
