  • G.Loomis E6X Steelhead Rods are what I use for my 'workhorse' rods on most days on the river. I own many G.Loomis rods as well as rods from other manufacturers and the E6X is the best value on a rod made in the U.S.A. The E6X 1143-2S STR is the most versitile steelhead rods Loomis makes and the 1145 is the runner up. I normally have the 1143 set up for floats & Jigs and the 1145 set up with beads.

    Ive been using loomis for 20+ years and i love them. My e6x spinning and gl3 casting are my go to. But my 90s 8'6" gl2 bronze colored rod is probably my favorite for casting spinners and spoons.

      I’ve seen those old bronze colored rods, I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled to try to find one for the collection. My oldest Loomis steelhead rod is a 2003 GL3 1024S. It’s caught all kinds of steelhead and salmon as well! I can’t break that thing, it’s my favorite spinner rod. I have an old GL2 1024 in the casting model and it’s been great too, I usually use it when I want to step up in spinner size or the water is high and I want a level wind to extend those drifts easier. Thanks for the input and good luck this season! 🎣

    I really like my Lamiglas X-11 9’6MS. It’s a really versatile rod for trout, steelhead, and small salmon. I paired mine with a Shimano NASCI 3000. Definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a good rod, but doesn’t want to pay Loomis money.

      Don’t get me wrong, I still recommend the X11 / Nasci combo for a great entry level steelhead combo. Some of my fishing buddies fish X11’s and do great, not everyone wants to pay that kind of money for gear. I didn’t pay that kind of money when I got started. An E6X with Vanford is about $535 compared to $200. Both will catch the same fish. Thanks for your perspective, this is more of an explanation why I fish the rods I do. 👍🏻🎣

      I appreciate your perspective, thanks. Since you made me curious, I put my combo on my kitchen scale: the graphite handle is about 1 oz more than the cork X-11.
      Rod - 6 oz
      Reel - 8.9 oz
      Total - 14.9 oz
      Thanks for the videos, and happy winter steelhead season

    I appreciate the emphasis on weight. When you’re high-sticking all day while float fishing, ounces feel like pounds on my old shoulders.

      Yes they do! I always remember you got a great deal on my favorite spinner rod, the GL3 1024S. Didn’t you get it for $150? I paid $285 in 2003.

      @@RAGEFISHING I was very lucky that day. The seller had just bought a batch of assorted fishing gear at an estate sale, he was not knowledgeable concerning rods. (Craig’s list add stated a Loomis “pole”.) With some timely advice from you, I was confident to make a great deal. The rod birth date is 9/2005, I suspect still within Gary’s time with Loomis. It will be out with me this winter and many future winters fishing spinners and spoons. 🎣

    I also search Ifish for deals on rods and reels. Its been productive over the years. I have a couple old 1000 series Lami's, 8.5 ft, 8-12's, i use for plugging. I have an X-11 10.5 foot, 6-12 for float fishing, and the same IMX you have, it is my favorite rod, that 9'8" one. I have a Dave Vedder series float Lami, 10.5 foot, casting, eated 10-20, i think. And 2 Edge rods, a 9.5 spin, 6-12, and an 8-17 10 foot casting, and I have one old LCI Striker, 8.5 foot, 8-15, i think. And one old IM6, 6-10, 9 foot. I have never weighed them, that was interesting. My old vest weighs about 14 pounds, down from 16, when i tried desparately to lighten that load! Good stuff, thanks!

      Wow! That’s a collection. I need to do a full video on my steelhead rods at some point, just to explain why I bought each one and why I’ve kept them. I have a Lamiglas Cerified Pro X96LS in the far back side of the rod rack that has fought an impressive number of steelhead including some monsters. Lamiglas discontinued the Certifed Pro series. I know they have some newer models in a similar series, but I’ve been sticking with Loomis.
      I forgot to mention Ifish. I’ve sold rods, reels and other stuff on there. That’s a good place to find some honest good deals. Maybe a point to make on my end of December Q&A video.
      Thanks William!

    I had plans to pickup a Stryker at the PNW Sportsman's show last year until I picked one up. I'll just say Edge has me spoiled on rod weight. I have handled the EX6 rods in store and they may be the closest to my Edge rods weight wise.

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  7 месяцев назад

      I’d be curious to see their weight. Don’t they have more of a skeletonized handle? I notice a lot of synthetic bass rods have exposed blanks where handles aren’t needed, that would save a ton of weight.

    I had an IMX for the longest time and it's known for drifting but I've been bobber fishing with it. It has been great it's a little light but, handled fish well. Can you share insight on line color? is it something you think about or just whatever is available at the time? I like the blue it is a bit harder to find but, i think it hold color a lot longer than the green.

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  7 месяцев назад +1

      I do prefer brighter colors. The aqua green is so much easier to see than the blue. I only buy the different colors so I know which rod is which at a glance. Kind of a dumb reason. 🤓 I need to get some of the moonshine yellow instead of blue next time. Line visibility is important to float fishing!

    • @alejandroguillen8790
      @alejandroguillen8790 7 месяцев назад

      @@RAGEFISHING I see, yeah I get that. do you remember that Power Pro used to make a yellow in Super Slick? I still have a road with that line on it it must be 8 years old it still has the color on it and it was my first setup, so I used it a lot. I haven't seen it in stores since.

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  7 месяцев назад

      @@alejandroguillen8790 I do remember it and used to use it. They do have a newer color in the super slick called ‘moonshine.’ If you search for it on Amazon or Fish Field, you’ll see it. I’m going to switch my blue to that stuff when it’s time.

    I’m assuming the Vanford 3000 balances the 1143 well? I was looking at the 1203 because everyone is telling to get a 10’. Thoughts of 9’6” vs 10”? Planning to fish in Erie tributary streams.

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  5 месяцев назад

      Good questions! The Vanford 3000 balances with the E6X’s very well. I was fishing a small tributary today and was fishing my 1083, the 9’ model shown in this video, and it was perfect! Lots of overhanging branches and I don’t like my rod tip constantly brushing the trees.
      A couple questions for you: 1. What size of rivers do you fish? Like how wide? Are you having to take long casts / mend line at long distances? And 2. Do you have overhanging branches to deal with?
      If you have wide open rivers, go as long as you need, the 10’ would be great. Jacob and Kody, both featured on my channel, fish 10’ rods with good success.
      If you fish smaller rivers with overhang, go 9’ or 9’6”. I now have 2 1145’s and 2 1143’s. They are my favorites. That little 1083 performed well for me today though, but again, it was a small river with lots of bushwhacking.
      I hope this helps! 🎣

    Have you ever had to warranty one of your e6x rods? If so how was your experience in doing so?

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  7 месяцев назад

      I’ve never had an issue with an E6X. I’ve caught a bunch of steelhead on my 2 gen. 1’s I gave to my fishing buddy Dave. I now have the Gen. 2’s and have had no issues. I’ve only broke one Loomis rod, a 10 1/2’ float rod, totally my fault, I even have video. I did the $100 expeditor program and had a new rod in a day. They even encouraged me just to send in the pieces to see if it was a blank issue which would have cost me zero. Great customer service, but I’m more happy that they just don’t break.

    Which one would you use for 1/2 to 3/4 oz spoon fishing

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  6 месяцев назад +1

      I would go with the 8 1/2’ 1025 which is a medium heavy power / fast action, 8-17#, 3/8-1oz lure rating. I personally like an 8.5’ rod for fishing spinners and spoons for casting accuracy. They also make this rod in the casting version which I would prefer for heavier spoons. Another option is the 1084 in spinning or casting which is a 9’ medium power, 8-12#, 3/8-3/4. That’s if you prefer a longer rod. I’ve had the 1084 casting rod in an old GL2 model, it was a great rod. It also depends on the size of river you’ll be fishing and what size of steelhead it’s known to hold. Lots of options! 🎣

      @RAGEFISHING Hey thanks a lot for your reply I really appreciate it. I have a 12' tica paired with a vanford 4000 I'm using for float fishing lake superior and I want a rod I can use for spoons and spinners. It will get used in the rivers as well so I might go with the 8 1/2. Really looking for distance casting. I'm going to pair this up with another vanvord in a 3000 or a stradic fl. Great job with the video I found this very helpful. Have a great day I'm going fishing

    How are these e6x vs the IMX pro in terms of weight?

    • @RAGEFISHING
      @RAGEFISHING  Месяц назад +1

      I haven’t owned one, I’ve looked at them but haven’t weighed them. They don’t have a 9’6” model, but do have 9’2” and 9’9”. So it would be hard to compare them exactly. As I did in this video, the older IMX 9’8” was slightly lighter by a fraction of an ounce. The other thing I noticed about the IMX PRO is they are moderate fast compared to fast action on the E6X.
      Here’s my best guess, they will be slightly lighter in the blank, but it probably wouldn’t be noticeable in the hand. I’m sure the PRO’s are incredible rods, but I just think they are above the price point most fishermen are willing to pay. It’s hard enough to convince folks to buy an E6X! 😁
      Good luck, let me know if you get the chance to weigh one.
