    Great video Nick and thanks for outlining the challenges of Planner Premium. I haven't yet fully accessed it, but I will take a look closer look this week. If a Project Plan 3 license is indeed required for Copilot that would be disappointing too, given it's a high cost to access capability that should be available to all in Planner.
    Also, I do agree with you too, Planner Premium is not as some people think, a new version of Planner. It's rather the integration of Project for the Web capabilities within the Planner experience. I think that is becoming a little confusing for people at the moment, and so I am continually letting people know that the current version of Planner Basic / Free is not going anywhere either 😀

      Thanks Scott. My guess is - though not based on any specific knowledge - that the licensing confusion will be worked out in some way, with perhaps a clear “Planner Premium” tier like “Teams Premium”, it makes sense for MS not to roll out new licenses to support a preview product but it could be made clearer all the same. I wish that this development had included unifying the basic and premium planners on one backend and data storage technology, particularly if only one of them is going to support Copilot.

    Your explanation and review of the New Planner are spot-on. New Planner promised a significant benefit for team members: a unified location for all tasks, irrespective of their origin. Initially, I suspected an error on my part when tasks from Project for the Web failed to appear in My Tasks. I got concerned when I realized that this functionality was absent for the Preview. This is rather disappointing as the fundamental purpose of the New Planner is to consolidate all tasks into My Tasks. I really hope that Microsoft will address this conspicuous gap prior to the official release of the New Planner.

      This is a preview and adding this feature is on their own published to do list for the product. However, the decision to release this to public preview without that feature is IMO a little odd.

      I'm so glad I found this video and comment, because I thought I was going crazy with nothing appearing in My Tasks! I'm most excited to use My Tasks to help other resources manage their workloads, so it's kind of a bummer that this isn't ready yet.

    Regarding "Digital Transformation" and "Planner" apps, some of us are moving back to analog / hybrid. Advantages: 1) More secure. Our plans are not in the hands of others. Encrypted in transit and at rest does not solve this (vendor has encryption key). 2) No data loss. 3) No network outages 4) No batteries or power needed. The only thing digital will be aspects that are shared dynamically. AI adoption? We ARE an AI software company and deal with strictly confidential information and have been for almost 30 years.

      PS: I hope MSFT gets their #&#T together regarding numerous versions of Project, Planner, ToDo, tasks, on an on. For major projects, we don't use Microsoft. It's a mess. We use another vendor.

      The arguments of the pros and cons of physical vs digital often comes down to what risks you are trying to protect from. A physical notebook is more secure in so far as no one can remotely hack into it but if you accidentally leave it in a restaurant you have totally lost control of your data - unlike a digital copy where losing a device need not be a big issue if it’s set up properly. For the most sensitive workloads there are capabilities in Azure that allow you to host digits assets where Microsoft does not have the key btw.

    • @angstrom1058
      @angstrom1058 2 месяца назад

      I was just pointing out there is a move back towards paper, fully aware of the pros and cons. Leaving your day planner at a restaurant isn't consequential if you are doing it right.

    • @angstrom1058

      @@guitarchitectural It gets a bit involved, but here goes... Some information must be shared with co-workers, partners and customers. That goes in the cloud with the least intellectual property as possible. Issues are tracked in JIRA and external docs are in Confluence (Atlassian). Project management is done in JIRA with "Big Picture" (easier and fights you less than MSFT Project) and has integrated time reporting with "Tempo Timesheets". Public calendars are in Outlook for scheduling and time blocking as some collaborators can book time on my calendar using Calendly. JIRA tasks are a beast to manage, so they are prioritized using "Foxly" custom scheme (think 1000's of them) and select few are pulled into Sunsama. So ends the cloud based apps. Personal Knowledge Management is the last digital, but on-prem in Obsidian. An individual's task planning tactical "order, rank and execute" is in a Franklin Covey day planners. There's a lot more to the topics here than just work. Paper journals are organized by major initiative, such as each software's product development notes, intellectual property, personal development, branding, business processes, project notes, draft meeting minutes, etc. These are in page numbered, bound, dated, signed and witnessed notebooks to protect intellectual property (think legal lab notebooks). Move only what is necessary for collaboration into an encrypted cloud service, because of risks.
      Once we implemented this system, productivity shot up, especially in new product development. Instead of trying to create diagrams in Confluence, just sketch them by hand.
      AI (e.g, chatGPT, coPilot) can be used, but often the answers are just flat out wrong. Best used to inspire the user on alternative ways of designing and implementing if one gets stuck.

    anything on the ability to add people to certain tasks in a plan, without giving them access to all the tasks? some of the commercially sensitive information i hold within a project plan isnt appropriate to share around everyone. i circle back around to trying planner every year or so and always find this is a showstopper for me.

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency  2 месяца назад +1

      This isn’t in the basic plans and I’m 99% sure it’s not an existing capability in the premium plans. Because planner is built on M365 groups I doubt this is something there is actually a framework to build for right now. Although you could probably achieve something approaching this with some automation.

    I am getting rather concerned about the multiple licensing approachi
    I have 365 Family so family can access
    I have 365 business standard so I can access copilot and azure services plus I have seperate MS Project 3 and Visio licenses to be able to use those services
    Planner works within Teams but as a sole practitioner I do not have a team😮
    Why are all products aimed at teams
    Surely MS can deploy multiple licensing strategies to accommodate everyone
    Unless you can meet some $$$ level for MSFT they couldn’t give a damn for your business
    Q is it possible to deploy teams for a single user so you can access planner etc?

      Yes, I think Teams is a great tool for solo businesses. Apart from some subs on specific projects it is just me in my business… how I use Teams: 1. Client teams - I deploy a Team for most projects and use that as a base for files, sharing, and collaboration. 2. I use Teams with myself, I have a daily meeting with myself and will then use transcription/intelligent recap to capture my thoughts, and copilot to develop them - particularly good in the car to ideate. I don’t think Teams is useful to just actual Teams at all.

    Agree Microsoft copilot licensing make zero sense. The promise of 365 copilot to use the graph is false if data is hidden in paywalls

    Copilot…It’s about as helpful as Clippy was back in the day. Both pretty useless.
    And also most companies will restrict it down so much that it won‘t even be as helpful as clippy.
    It’s a farce…

    • @brightideasagency
      @brightideasagency  Месяц назад

      I'm not sure what Clippy version you were using back in the day, but Copilot for Microsoft 365 certainly offers a lot more than the one I remember. Once Copilot for Microsoft 365 is activated there are very limited ways for companies to restrict it down, you cannot deactivate on an app by app basis, nor can you really limit its capability in any meaningful way other than making changes to what data it (and the user) sees. You are right though that as released in preview the specific features of Copilot in Planner is pretty useless for any meaningful work imo.

    • @Phillsen

      @@brightideasagency we will see where it will go. We already have it in the company and at the moment it’s pretty useless. It can’t access the content of whatever Programm you have open. It says the settings of your company prohibit copilot from accessing the content of this site/app.
      Also it doesn’t remember like ChatGPT does. You can’t have a conversation today and continue it tomorrow. For me there isn’t a reason to use copilot instead of ChatGPT.
