Yes, I am still recovering from having my mind blown by Blackmagic today. It was a Grand Slam to say the least. If I was starting over in my video creation, the Pyxis is it. However, you brought new life with the BMMCC extension pack and the upcoming Eclipse. This fits my current video making perfect.and will get heavy use. The Pyxis filed what I did not like about the 6K pocket and gave us a platform. Isn't it all about having a good platform to move forward? That is why the Eclipse will have a home with me.

I have a Komodo as well with the Hasselblad viewfinder mod for the top screen. Love it too but man it’s a pain to operate. The global shutter and that image is just special to me, like the BM Micro. Might have to make some decisions soon though!

We all got decisions to make now 😅 my fx3 is already collecting dust and with the eclipse and pyxis I doubt I'll ever use it.
All these people saying RIP to Arri clearly don't know the industry or use Arri cameras. there is a reason people use them and will continue to use them. Sony will probably wince with the Burano but just chalk it up to a lesson I really see that more as a concept they let go to market and is actually pushing the boundries and is still a great camera. Sony just have the money to push an industry that way. Zcam and Kinefinity are surely going to be more in danger though Zcam seem more interested in lighting now and not so much about their cameras anyhow.

Hey Peter, Yeah a few people said get L mount and looking into it, it makes sense. However, I've been researching the C6k and some things are a bit concerning. The iso performance, crop modes, framerates, gyro stab not as good as P4k/p6k. I'm thinking I might hold off for a bit and see if BM updates anything.

Blackmagic's NAB '24 Update yesterday was insane. 🔥 I personally was hoping for a bmpcc 4K pro (MFT) or bmcc 4K FF. That resolution is plenty, and you get faster sensor readout speeds or framerates. After yesterday I doubt they will ever release anything below 6K honestly...
I agree 100%. I would prefer a 4k version too and mft would have been great for me personally. I think you're right though and we may not see any more 4k outside of the studio cams.
I was curious what the DIY community would think about this camera. Super positive attitude to have your thunder stolen by Blackmagic! And you’re right about vertical video. I never even thought about that.
Credit where it's due man. I personally like what they've done and very interested in the networking side of things. The vertical video was a big deal for us at the time of designing the B6K. I was shooting so many client reels that I wished I had a screen on the side lol. I've got some great ideas for accessories and custom plates so can't wait to make some stuff.
I would probably get the L mount and then add on a POGO MOFAGE PL adapter and then you'll basically have internal NDs and more. So just add on about another $400. Going to be interesting to see how things shake out in terms of their typical IR pollution and moire pattern issues. Love BM, but that's always something to contemplate.
vinaydahya5353 It is a super solid adapter system, especially now that they have released the new dual filters that have ND and IR Cut, etc. Also introduced a CPL filter
Blackmagic had a huuuuuge spring release. I’m hungover from yesterday’s announcement. I absolutely love my BMPCC 6k at the Resolver workflow. Definitely ordering the Pyxis and the Micro color panel.
I like to think that it was people like yourself that finally woke Blackmagic up to finally building the camera that users actually wanted. The approach you’ve taken was still game-changing in how fast you could realise a product. The least Blackmagic should do is offer you a job!
Thank you brother, that's a nice thought and I hope it's true. It might have seemed like I hated Blackmagic but I actually love them. When I first started with camera's my first upgrade to a proper camera was the p4k and I loved BM since....just never got on with the shape. It actually feels good to talk about them positively for a change.

Blackmagic did an incredible job with their release today- and yeah I was super bored with the broadcast stuff too. Thanks man, it's been a long time that I've been this excited about a camera. I know it's not exactly groundbreaking but it's something a lot of us wanted...even tradesmen get excited about a good screwdriver lol. So you're a full-on BM guy huh, I'm not gonna lie though, image is fantastic but the bodies just weren't working well for me in the work I was doing. A lot of people keep saying it's just a 6kff and no real upgrade but for us that don't own a BM6k it is a big upgrade. Thank you bro
While the price is the main draw, what its missing is glaring. Those hyping it up without experiencing it on a paid shoot may find themselves regrettably coming back down to Earth. I believe DM will take the tempeture of this offering and use the feedback to create the Pyxes Pro that should have build in ND, 15 stop range, 4K at 60 or even 120fps and 14 and maybe even 16 bit internal recording. With those upgrades, those hyping up the price of the Pyxis will also hype up a $4K to $5K price.
Your system the one you created is still awesome in my opinion, and I think they took some ideas from your past concepts and finally released there own, long time coming but hey they finally did it and gave everyone what they have been looking for ...

I think blackmagic as a company will continue to expand...they LISTEN to your client base even though it may have taken a while. I don't get the side monitor placement. Would prefer even a tiny one but on the top. No internal ND? Another thing, although not important to me, just curious: why won't they make the camera to WiFi itself, without the need of a phone? I think Panasonic did that. And would it even work when the phone is connected to the internet via WiFi and not 4g / 5g
I think it's ok at the side. Most cine cams like Arri and Red have no monitors. The komodo does but it's not useable for work Worse things have been done by Sony ie the fx6 and no audio inputs on body. This looks like Blackmagic wanted a small box with proper networking capabilities for cinematic live streams and broadcast. Fits perfectly for what they're doing with the connected Ursa. It's why I put the Arri 35 part at the beginning.
@@imiy look at the broadcast side of things and why they put ethernet and RTMP into this camera with a metal body. I don't think solo filmmakers are the number 1 focus although they could use this if needed.
The only thing can maybe could save zcam is an aggressively priced 15 stop dynamic range, global MFT sensor camera they were going on about a while back.

@@AltCine and that’s because I believe those sensors were built for arri and not used. Rumor has it another wave was supposed to be used in the pocket 4k but the tsunami happened and they had to get the Sony sensors
Yes that's good advice and a lot of people said that but I really want to avoid adapters if possible. I don't even use my speedbooster on the micro often.
Would be even more usable with RF, Z or L mount (or even NO mount) which would be best as a base!! They missed a trick here. Seams like a bit of a waste/inefficient to make multiple fixed mount versions but what do I know... one of the things i love about my Komodo is the really huge range of lenses I can use on it but hmmm..
I just think making multiple mounts for one camera and for them to speak electronically might have increased the price quite a lot. We know they can do it and some people would definitely pay extra but this is more inline with how they price cams. But yes...what do WE know...it's all just speculation by us but I'm pretty sure this cam will do well.
I hope the front mounts are interchangeable, annoying if the mounts are fixed. Is it better to get the L-mount and use EF and PL mount adaptors like the 6KFF?
Love your energy FYI: Canon and Sony have patents for internal ND systems for mirrorless bodies… also both companies have sensor tech that could well negate the need for ND filters altogether. It’s almost certain that at least one of these technologies is soon to be released in a mirrorless body. I’ll wait until that happens. My current cameras all outshine this Blackmagic box camera… and the new 12k is too large for my shooting style.

I had my reservations with blackmagic in the 2010s to be taken seriously on their camera releases and their broadcast hardware modularity now, its so synergized where it all clicks together with their BM Camera to Cloud offering and finally a "no-limits" URSA Cine, a true cinema featured camera, especially the AC side monitor, and Kimodo rival box camera BM is coming out ahead of the game and shouldn't be slept on
Yes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you understand it fully! I added the Arri part at the beginning to show people what's happening in the industry but they don't see it. This smaller connected cam is perfect companion for bigger ursa's. I can see broadcasters putting this on a couple small stands or hanging discreetly whilst using the bigger ursa manned. It's just great that with a monitor it can be used for handheld too.
Guys, Blackmagic intentionally didn't release the another BLACKMAGIC PYXIS camera with articulated screen. They are very clever as this design doesn't allow single person shooting
Yeah for the first time I’m looking closely at the BM cameras, but for now I believe I’m going to go for the video assist at its reduced price and the new micro panel. So progressively getting into the BM ecosystem.
I sincerely disagree. What you've done with the M-Lite says otherwise. This might have killed your ambitions with the Micro G2 box body but this might also be a sign. You guys are capable of so much more and I hope you don't lose sight of that. I do have to say the Pyxis is really interesting but they'd better add touch screen functionality to a videoassist or something

The decision on the G2 wasn't because of the Pyxis though...I just don't think it's worth it over doing our own CinePi and I also want to build a new more meaningful channel. The Eclipse will give everyone an idea of what we can do. I hope the VA can control pyxis, that would be great. Considering it's SDI like the G2 it could be possible.
Wait was the og fairchild sensor dual gain? I knew it was a killer sensor but i didn't think they could fit that into such a small body. Also I read blackmagic's custom sensors are still manufactured by fairchild (no idea if thats true) and still look amazing. I'm super excited for the ursa cine.
I think the only reason Fairchild stopped is because Sony bought some of their business and patents. I think they still manufacture some parts but not for consumer cams. The new BM sensors are made by Sony....just like most other brands which are all dual iso...not dual gain. Research all my claims yourself as I could be wrong but I believe the only dual gain sensors available right now are only older Blackmagics & Arri.
@@AltCine @Altcine sorry should have clarified. By custom sensors I ment the 4.6k sensor and maybe 12k sensor were manufactured by Fairchild (bought by onsemi). All their pocket and broadcast sensor are Sony. But its the og's dual gain that surprised me. I did look it up and apparently it's two 11bit signals which is super surprising. I have no idea the challenges, but uou should look into modifying the old 2.5k production camera. I believe it's a larger cut of the same sensor as the og. Absolutely love your projects!
@@nickxc ahhh gotcha. I actually don't know who does their custom sensors so it could be made by a branch of Fairchild as Sony didn't buy the whole lot.... you're teaching me something new. Yeas the dual gain on some of the old sensors is incredible. They all have a funny issue but the OG & micro definitely are the best as the moiré is easy to deal with. Definitely need to look at more models but we're really committed to building our a pro cinePi that people can make at home.... hopefully. Thank you for your support bro
Blackmagic played us beautifully. They some how convinced many of us that just by changing the form factor to a box, and removing a really good monitor, and increasing the price, still got us praising just because box easy to rig?
I hear what you're saying but I'm seeing a different picture. This looks like a high end camera for cinematic broadcasts that can still be used by the average cinematographer.
Bro, on the Blackmagic group it is actually ridiculous! I thought they'd be happy that BM took this step....is it perfect...no but at least they added a screen & a 3.5 jack unlike the fx6.
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 it's double the price..that's not really another option that's a whole new realm. Don't get me wrong FX6 is great and I owned 2 of them for work but it's not all bells and whistles. Sometimes the Nd wasn't strong enough so you still had to step down and some people preferred using external Nd over Sony's inbuilt. The lack of 3.5mm jack means you were forced into using the handle for even smaller jobs. If your handle broke then it'll set you back £1250 which is crazy. So whilst it's great and I'd recommend it...it did come with its own set of issues.
It certainly looks good, but we really don’t know if it is. Before you get too excited… Does it have auto focus? How’s the rolling shutter? If the auto focus sucks and the rolling shutter is terrible then it doesn’t matter how pretty the boxes it only matters what kind of images we’re going to get. And nobody seems to be talking about this. And I hear the dynamic range is just OK. I don’t know… Waiting for the Sony a7s4…. Which may blow this back camera out of the water.
I got FX3 and recently sold my 2 FX6's as I don't need them for work anymore. I'm currently shooting on Blackmagic micro and started with canon Eos-M in magic lantern...I think I'll be ok with this 😅
A lot of us are fine without auto focus…the majority of people doing narrative work. Dynamic range is not much of an issue when lighting is setup properly. Just want people to realize that not every camera is for them. Respect 🫡

The nexus project did an announcement based around the pyxis. They're still gonna be releasing. They are confident their design is better than the pyxis.
Graduated from a cinema school, ran a video production agency for 8 years. I lost my interest to video production totally. Since Blackmagic started LOG shooting and other camera companies followed that workflow, everything seems too gimmick to me. As camera technology evolves, it pushes me away and made me interested in more basic older tech. Let’s admit that, clients do not care about what picture profile you take the video. After long years of LOG, Sony came up with a non-LOG picture profile with cinematic color range. That’s signal of change for me. I now more interested in old 5D’s (mark II and III), Panasonic GH4, Sony a7s (original) etc. Even 5DMII still has a fantastic image. Yes it is lacking of tons of features compared to todays cameras but clients are only asking for simple vertical videos for their Instagram. That format or other social media content doesnt need too cinematic 4K or 8K footage. We talk about all features but in the end of the day people watch videos on their phones and I ask myself “do we really need that kind of complicated systems?” or “do all pieces we crate have to be cinematic?”. And my answer is always a “no” even I was once one of the biggest camera nerds.
There’s many types of clients and work out there…not just social media and vertical video. Some of us do full time narrative, music video or commercial work. I respect that the camera’s not for you but it’s definitely got it’s place 🤙

But once you live in a country with %100 yearly inflation, after several years, clients take videos with their phones and ask you to edit to minimize the budget. Lately, thanks to capcut, many of our clients stopped working with us and create their own video content. Music videos? They work only with the directors/producers who do it for FREE. Not willing to pay even a penny. Commercials? Mafia is a gatekeeper and it is impossible to get good production jobs as independent director. Youonly have small businesses with no budget left in the market for you. So yeah...

I love technologies, I’m a geek, so I get excited by stuff like that, even thought I’m just a video editor and not a camera operator, so I will probably never buy a Pyxis, or Ursa Cine, and yet I still want to know more about the future Ursa Cine Medium Format 17k… life is good, so enjoy it as long as it lasts!

Add some NDs, AF, full size XLR, Vlock and Prores and I might buy one. Not saying it's bad, just that I'd still rather shoot on my FX6 for usability. All they've done here is stick a sensor in a box. Feels like a 'back of a fag packet' design to me. Next version might be great!

@@AltCine can you think of any reason as to why they do not have a HDMI out. Can one use the USB C as a HDMI out or is the idea to use a phone as monitor using the USB C instead of the EVF?
@@daylight5500 I think there's a couple reasons. I think this isn't aimed at your casual low budget shooter... it's somewhere in the middle and I genuinely think this is meant to support the new Ursa's for cinematic broadcasts which I believe is going to be a big part of media creation in the future. We can't look at this cam like an everyday A cam, although it can be used as one it's definitely in the realms of a supporting camera like the komodo's original use case. Finally if you give this camera everything then it will cannibalise the pocket range and that would be a bad business move. A lot of people will hate this cam but I see the future of professional, well built metal camera ready for cinema and broadcasts but at a very good price.

@@AltCine Images aside, without the interest your efforts generated, I doubt BM would have ever pulled their finger out. But for me 13 stops doesn't cut it. Hell I'd rather have a 16 stop 1080p camera than a 17K Ursa any day. I don't know what they are thinking. Give us dynamic range and frame rates and if going to lower resolutions can get us there then do that.

If that's the case we still have to look at the pipeline from capture to destination...can we make use of all the data? I think the bigger cams with better DR will pick up the bulk of pro productions and the Pyxis is a b-roll cam.
let me make this clear I love this camera but there's a reason that I won't ever buy it and that's the fact that it doesn't have internal ND filters if it did it would be an automatic purchase even if it was only $400 more expensive and you might ask why and I'll tell you because number one it's an extra thing to carry and number two they're super annoying as a solo operator yes when you're working with a team and you have an AC it's less annoying but it still takes up valuable time

People are never satisfied. You can’t always get what you want, work with what you have. This camera satisfies my thirst as long as the image that comes out of it is great, I am satisfied.
So I'm the only one that's remarkably disappointed? I wanted a Mini URSA with a full frame for another $2000-$3000. Instead we get a camera that costs $9000 more than the ursa mini and is twice the size. It's a camera that will fit on almost no gimbal and will be a massive beast to shoot handheld. We finally get a box camera and again, no internal ND filters. I guess I'm the only one that bought a bunch of 6k pro cameras and said I'm never buying another camera without internal ND as long as I live. I'm not going back to variable ND. I'm not going back to screwing filters on. I'm not going back to ND filters that make everything green. I'm not going back to $450 filters that break because they're literally just big pieces of glass. I'm not going back to spending 2 minutes to change out a ND filter on a run n gun shoot. Man fuck these cameras.
This is why I make my own stuff. Even with fx6 which I loved and had Nd, I hated the screen was attached by cable and no mic port. However, you brought new life with the BMMCC extension pack and the upcoming Eclipse. This fits my current video making perfect.and will get heavy use. The Pyxis filed what I did not like about the 6K pocket and gave us a platform. Isn't it all about having a good platform to move forward? That is why the Eclipse will have a home with me.

I have a Komodo as well with the Hasselblad viewfinder mod for the top screen. Love it too but man it’s a pain to operate. The global shutter and that image is just special to me, like the BM Micro. Might have to make some decisions soon though!

All these people saying RIP to Arri clearly don't know the industry or use Arri cameras. there is a reason people use them and will continue to use them. Sony will probably wince with the Burano but just chalk it up to a lesson I really see that more as a concept they let go to market and is actually pushing the boundries and is still a great camera. Sony just have the money to push an industry that way. Zcam and Kinefinity are surely going to be more in danger though Zcam seem more interested in lighting now and not so much about their cameras anyhow.

However, I've been researching the C6k and some things are a bit concerning. The iso performance, crop modes, framerates, gyro stab not as good as P4k/p6k.

Blackmagic's NAB '24 Update yesterday was insane. 🔥
I personally was hoping for a bmpcc 4K pro (MFT) or bmcc 4K FF. That resolution is plenty, and you get faster sensor readout speeds or framerates.
After yesterday I doubt they will ever release anything below 6K honestly...

Credit where it's due man. I personally like what they've done and very interested in the networking side of things.
The vertical video was a big deal for us at the time of designing the B6K. I was shooting so many client reels that I wished I had a screen on the side lol.
I've got some great ideas for accessories and custom plates so can't wait to make some stuff.
I would probably get the L mount and then add on a POGO MOFAGE PL adapter and then you'll basically have internal NDs and more. So just add on about another $400.
Going to be interesting to see how things shake out in terms of their typical IR pollution and moire pattern issues. Love BM, but that's always something to contemplate.

It might have seemed like I hated Blackmagic but I actually love them. When I first started with camera's my first upgrade to a proper camera was the p4k and I loved BM since....just never got on with the shape.

So you're a full-on BM guy huh, I'm not gonna lie though, image is fantastic but the bodies just weren't working well for me in the work I was doing. This body will be great to use and looking forward to networking this in our studio which is getting built soon.

@@ODHunte gotcha. I had to make the switch last year for type of work I was doing and although I'm taking a long break, I still kept the FX3 just in case any good jobs come up.

While the price is the main draw, what its missing is glaring. Those hyping it up without experiencing it on a paid shoot may find themselves regrettably coming back down to Earth. I believe DM will take the tempeture of this offering and use the feedback to create the Pyxes Pro that should have build in ND, 15 stop range, 4K at 60 or even 120fps and 14 and maybe even 16 bit internal recording. With those upgrades, those hyping up the price of the Pyxis will also hype up a $4K to $5K price.
Your system the one you created is still awesome in my opinion, and I think they took some ideas from your past concepts and finally released there own, long time coming but hey they finally did it and gave everyone what they have been looking for ...

I think it's ok at the side. Most cine cams like Arri and Red have no monitors. The komodo does but it's not useable for work
Worse things have been done by Sony ie the fx6 and no audio inputs on body.
This looks like Blackmagic wanted a small box with proper networking capabilities for cinematic live streams and broadcast. Fits perfectly for what they're doing with the connected Ursa.
It's why I put the Arri 35 part at the beginning.

@@imiy look at the broadcast side of things and why they put ethernet and RTMP into this camera with a metal body. I don't think solo filmmakers are the number 1 focus although they could use this if needed.
The only thing can maybe could save zcam is an aggressively priced 15 stop dynamic range, global MFT sensor camera they were going on about a while back.

Yes that's good advice and a lot of people said that but I really want to avoid adapters if possible. I don't even use my speedbooster on the micro often.
Mystifying omissions: NO internal ND’s, and only 13 stops of dynamic range.
Would be even more usable with RF, Z or L mount (or even NO mount) which would be best as a base!! They missed a trick here. Seams like a bit of a waste/inefficient to make multiple fixed mount versions but what do I know... one of the things i love about my Komodo is the really huge range of lenses I can use on it but hmmm..
I just think making multiple mounts for one camera and for them to speak electronically might have increased the price quite a lot.
We know they can do it and some people would definitely pay extra but this is more inline with how they price cams. But yes...what do WE know...it's all just speculation by us but I'm pretty sure this cam will do well.
I hope the front mounts are interchangeable, annoying if the mounts are fixed. Is it better to get the L-mount and use EF and PL mount adaptors like the 6KFF?

FYI: Canon and Sony have patents for internal ND systems for mirrorless bodies… also both companies have sensor tech that could well negate the need for ND filters altogether. It’s almost certain that at least one of these technologies is soon to be released in a mirrorless body. I’ll wait until that happens. My current cameras all outshine this Blackmagic box camera… and the new 12k is too large for my shooting style.

It's a good question. I read quite a few comments about the ND not being that good but I honestly have no real idea as to why it doesn't have them.
I had my reservations with blackmagic in the 2010s to be taken seriously on their camera releases and their broadcast hardware modularity
now, its so synergized where it all clicks together with their BM Camera to Cloud offering and finally a "no-limits" URSA Cine, a true cinema featured camera, especially the AC side monitor, and Kimodo rival box camera
BM is coming out ahead of the game and shouldn't be slept on
Yes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 you understand it fully! I added the Arri part at the beginning to show people what's happening in the industry but they don't see it. This smaller connected cam is perfect companion for bigger ursa's.
I can see broadcasters putting this on a couple small stands or hanging discreetly whilst using the bigger ursa manned.
It's just great that with a monitor it can be used for handheld too.

I sincerely disagree. What you've done with the M-Lite says otherwise. This might have killed your ambitions with the Micro G2 box body but this might also be a sign. You guys are capable of so much more and I hope you don't lose sight of that.

Wait was the og fairchild sensor dual gain? I knew it was a killer sensor but i didn't think they could fit that into such a small body.
Also I read blackmagic's custom sensors are still manufactured by fairchild (no idea if thats true) and still look amazing. I'm super excited for the ursa cine.
I think the only reason Fairchild stopped is because Sony bought some of their business and patents.
I think they still manufacture some parts but not for consumer cams.
The new BM sensors are made by Sony....just like most other brands which are all dual iso...not dual gain.
Research all my claims yourself as I could be wrong but I believe the only dual gain sensors available right now are only older Blackmagics & Arri.
@@AltCine @Altcine sorry should have clarified. By custom sensors I ment the 4.6k sensor and maybe 12k sensor were manufactured by Fairchild (bought by onsemi). All their pocket and broadcast sensor are Sony.
But its the og's dual gain that surprised me. I did look it up and apparently it's two 11bit signals which is super surprising.
I have no idea the challenges, but uou should look into modifying the old 2.5k production camera. I believe it's a larger cut of the same sensor as the og.

Yeas the dual gain on some of the old sensors is incredible. They all have a funny issue but the OG & micro definitely are the best as the moiré is easy to deal with.
Definitely need to look at more models but we're really committed to building our a pro cinePi that people can make at home.... hopefully.

Blackmagic played us beautifully. They some how convinced many of us that just by changing the form factor to a box, and removing a really good monitor, and increasing the price, still got us praising just because box easy to rig?
I hear what you're saying but I'm seeing a different picture. This looks like a high end camera for cinematic broadcasts that can still be used by the average cinematographer.

Idk, FX6 has usable AF and built in eVND. I believe if your budget can stretch it’s a more solid choice for more shooters.
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 it's double the price..that's not really another option that's a whole new realm. Don't get me wrong FX6 is great and I owned 2 of them for work but it's not all bells and whistles.
Sometimes the Nd wasn't strong enough so you still had to step down and some people preferred using external Nd over Sony's inbuilt.
The lack of 3.5mm jack means you were forced into using the handle for even smaller jobs.
If your handle broke then it'll set you back £1250 which is crazy. So whilst it's great and I'd recommend it...it did come with its own set of issues.
It certainly looks good, but we really don’t know if it is. Before you get too excited… Does it have auto focus? How’s the rolling shutter? If the auto focus sucks and the rolling shutter is terrible then it doesn’t matter how pretty the boxes it only matters what kind of images we’re going to get. And nobody seems to be talking about this. And I hear the dynamic range is just OK. I don’t know… Waiting for the Sony a7s4…. Which may blow this back camera out of the water.
I got FX3 and recently sold my 2 FX6's as I don't need them for work anymore.
I'm currently shooting on Blackmagic micro and started with canon Eos-M in magic lantern...I think I'll be ok with this 😅
A lot of us are fine without auto focus…the majority of people doing narrative work. Dynamic range is not much of an issue when lighting is setup properly. Just want people to realize that not every camera is for them. Respect 🫡

Graduated from a cinema school, ran a video production agency for 8 years. I lost my interest to video production totally.
Since Blackmagic started LOG shooting and other camera companies followed that workflow, everything seems too gimmick to me. As camera technology evolves, it pushes me away and made me interested in more basic older tech.
Let’s admit that, clients do not care about what picture profile you take the video. After long years of LOG, Sony came up with a non-LOG picture profile with cinematic color range. That’s signal of change for me.
I now more interested in old 5D’s (mark II and III), Panasonic GH4, Sony a7s (original) etc. Even 5DMII still has a fantastic image. Yes it is lacking of tons of features compared to todays cameras but clients are only asking for simple vertical videos for their Instagram. That format or other social media content doesnt need too cinematic 4K or 8K footage.
We talk about all features but in the end of the day people watch videos on their phones and I ask myself “do we really need that kind of complicated systems?” or “do all pieces we crate have to be cinematic?”. And my answer is always a “no” even I was once one of the biggest camera nerds.
There’s many types of clients and work out there…not just social media and vertical video. Some of us do full time narrative, music video or commercial work. I respect that the camera’s not for you but it’s definitely got it’s place 🤙

But once you live in a country with %100 yearly inflation, after several years, clients take videos with their phones and ask you to edit to minimize the budget. Lately, thanks to capcut, many of our clients stopped working with us and create their own video content. Music videos? They work only with the directors/producers who do it for FREE. Not willing to pay even a penny. Commercials? Mafia is a gatekeeper and it is impossible to get good production jobs as independent director. Youonly have small businesses with no budget left in the market for you. So yeah...

I love technologies, I’m a geek, so I get excited by stuff like that, even thought I’m just a video editor and not a camera operator, so I will probably never buy a Pyxis, or Ursa Cine, and yet I still want to know more about the future Ursa Cine Medium Format 17k… life is good, so enjoy it as long as it lasts!
I'm glad you said this, it's true. I had to buy cameras which made work easier but my first real "pro" camera was p4k and loved everything apart from the body. Now I'm back doing passion stuff, it feels good to be passionate about a camera again.

Add some NDs, AF, full size XLR, Vlock and Prores and I might buy one. Not saying it's bad, just that I'd still rather shoot on my FX6 for usability. All they've done here is stick a sensor in a box. Feels like a 'back of a fag packet' design to me. Next version might be great!
This looks like Blackmagic wanted a small box with proper networking capabilities for cinematic live streams and broadcast. Fits perfectly for what they're doing with the connected Ursa.
It's why I put the Arri 35 part at the beginning.

@@daylight5500 I think there's a couple reasons. I think this isn't aimed at your casual low budget shooter... it's somewhere in the middle and I genuinely think this is meant to support the new Ursa's for cinematic broadcasts which I believe is going to be a big part of media creation in the future.
We can't look at this cam like an everyday A cam, although it can be used as one it's definitely in the realms of a supporting camera like the komodo's original use case.
Finally if you give this camera everything then it will cannibalise the pocket range and that would be a bad business move.
A lot of people will hate this cam but I see the future of professional, well built metal camera ready for cinema and broadcasts but at a very good price.

Pretty much 😅 I have no problem with the pocket apart from the shape.
Image is good throughout the range, rolling shutter is my only issue with 6k
@@AltCine yea the jelly effect was bad, my concern was my cam had a good chance of turning into a toaster mid shoot and the memory always fluctuated, give it a year and this cam will flood eBay with fried out SDI 😂

Thanks man. I like bpu, they last long but not sure on Pyxis as the screen will drain it. It looks like theirs a lot of options for rigging though or maybe bpu to vmount adapter?

Yeah I made that mistake with 6kpro but this isn't exactly a new camera under the hood so should be ok....fingers crossed

@@AltCine Images aside, without the interest your efforts generated, I doubt BM would have ever pulled their finger out.
But for me 13 stops doesn't cut it. Hell I'd rather have a 16 stop 1080p camera than a 17K Ursa any day. I don't know what they are thinking. Give us dynamic range and frame rates and if going to lower resolutions can get us there then do that.

If that's the case we still have to look at the pipeline from capture to destination...can we make use of all the data?
I think the bigger cams with better DR will pick up the bulk of pro productions and the Pyxis is a b-roll cam.

let me make this clear I love this camera but there's a reason that I won't ever buy it and that's the fact that it doesn't have internal ND filters if it did it would be an automatic purchase even if it was only $400 more expensive and you might ask why and I'll tell you because number one it's an extra thing to carry and number two they're super annoying as a solo operator yes when you're working with a team and you have an AC it's less annoying but it still takes up valuable time

People are never satisfied. You can’t always get what you want, work with what you have. This camera satisfies my thirst as long as the image that comes out of it is great, I am satisfied.

So I'm the only one that's remarkably disappointed? I wanted a Mini URSA with a full frame for another $2000-$3000. Instead we get a camera that costs $9000 more than the ursa mini and is twice the size. It's a camera that will fit on almost no gimbal and will be a massive beast to shoot handheld. We finally get a box camera and again, no internal ND filters. I guess I'm the only one that bought a bunch of 6k pro cameras and said I'm never buying another camera without internal ND as long as I live. I'm not going back to variable ND. I'm not going back to screwing filters on. I'm not going back to ND filters that make everything green. I'm not going back to $450 filters that break because they're literally just big pieces of glass. I'm not going back to spending 2 minutes to change out a ND filter on a run n gun shoot. Man fuck these cameras.
This is why I make my own stuff. Even with fx6 which I loved and had Nd, I hated the screen was attached by cable and no mic port. The Komodo had no internal vnd and a useless screen....I think we will cope😅
Again, this is why I design and make my own stuff rather than waiting for manufacturers
