With that reylo sword fight, it's important to remember that Kylo was not trying to hurt or necessarily overpower her. He's been trying trying to convert her and that amount of time allowed her to gain the upper hand
YES! People may think otherwise because he threw her at the tree initially and swiped at her a lot with his saber, but his goal was to disarm her so he could capture her. Well said.

He punched Finn before slicing his back.
I love the fact that I'm not the only one that watched the movies so many times, just to see their interaction. I can see stuff that many have overlooked. I always wondered what title would he had given her if she would had joined him to the dark side: peon, partner in crime, partner in life? I always got the feeling that Kylo didn't have his heart in it when fighting Rey! Though he is a superior fighter he didn't want to take Rey out..."you need a teacher" says this to her while he is supposedly trying to defeat her.
The way Kylo and Rey are fighting is literally passionate in comparison to how Anakin and Obi Wan fought in ROTS. They’re both equally desperate to get to their own goal but there’s something about them fighting each other that isin’t all out like all other star wars duels, but rather toeing the line. It always is. Especially when you consider the fact that after TFA, kylo never wants to hurt Rey physically or mentally, just resorts to defence when she chooses offence.
When Kylo says “don’t be afraid, I feel it too” I wonder if he means it like “don’t be afraid, because I can feel that fear” Or something along the lines idk
Kylo was never trying to kill Rey, while Rey wanted to kill Ben. That’s why she beat him. He pulled his punches. She didn’t. He had an easy opportunity to kill Rey, but instead of pushing her off the cliff, he offered to teach her. They went into the duel with different goals. And this is why he didn’t appear to mind that she beat him.
She _had_ to beat him at the end because it was either that or die (in her mind). He couldn't kill her, but had to catch her (for Snoke) and it was either catch her or die trying. So he had both hands tied behind his back, and she is totally committed to killing the 'bad guy'. The Force literally interferes here.
2:16 i’d also like to point out that although Ren is part of the first order, bringing the hosnian system down would go against his mother’s stand as part of the resistance and he had no interest in doing that because he genuinely loved her. Bedsides, he was on his star ship when this happened, which is a clear indicator that although he was witness to the destruction of the planet, he had no part in bringing it down, star killer was hux’s and snoke’s weapon.
This video is fantastic! Love how you kinda broke down each scene and kept it light and comedic! I remember watching TFA for the 1st time in theaters, and the scene that tipped me off to Reylo was when Kylo says, “what girl?” Before that I assumed the couple would be Finn and Rey, but his undeniable interest in her and the dramatic nature of that scene made me think that maybe Finnrey was not meant to be. Lol. The following bridal carry and the interrogation scenes definitely deepened my suspicion.😂 Anways, can’t wait for parts 2 and 3!

It is interesting to see male Reylo shipper you are rare. One thing i want to coment is about Rey defeating Kylo Ren. There are some points I like to make. Durling interegation when they connect they minds exange happens he get her memories she get his skills its is explained in TFA novel adaptation . Also I think many of us dont get that characters do what is nesesery for the story. If Kylo defeated Rey instant we will be going in a dark path where creators are not interested to explore. And how training characters have is irrelevant Grogu from The Mandalorian who is a baby whinout any training do some crazy stuff but why fanboys dont talk about that?
I thank you for this video, I love it. There are not many youtubers that are positive twoards the Sequels, unfortunately. I love the duels in the Sequels. Kylo didn't want to kill her, he reminds her of the force and givers her time to tap into it, while he had her pinned onto an edge. He wanted to see what she could do, if he had wanted to beat her he would have had to kill her and he never wanted to kill her until on the wreck of the Deqth Star.
Because of Reylo that I want to dive in the SW universe. I always said that didn't like Star Wars because was overestimated. Since you focused on their fight a bit and Rey winning, I just also wanted to point out that while Rey WAS trying to kill him, he didn't want to and wasn't trying to kill her, both for personal reasons and because of Snoke's orders to bring her in. Also, Rey technically didn't beat him. She truck a vital blow on him and COULD have killed him, sure, but then they were separated by the fissure. If she went for a killing blow, he may have used the Force to pull his lightsaber back to himself or Force pushed her away and their fight could have resumed.
I think for all intents and purposes, she beat him. She inflicted a good blow on him and disarmed him. You're right, he could have made a move to counter her or save himself, but the movie certainly seems to frame it as a victory over him. He doesn't behave as though he's ready to quickly recover. Even if his goal wasn't to kill her but rather capture her, there's no reason to think he couldn't have disarmed her more easily. He could have used his force freeze move on her again, perhaps...

I would say I agree about them being them being equals since they are meant to be a dyad, but isn’t JJ covering for Rian? Like, did JJ know Rian was going to take a weak story and just dowse it with hot water the way my sweet Irish grandmother would make boiled potatoes? I don’t believe so. I neither saw these two as enemies nor equals. Rey is clearly better at everything with the exception of moving her hand when Kylo uses the Force to subdue her at Maz’s spot. Once she got a taste of that sweet, sweet Force she just entered every new branch of it and was nigh-instantly better than Kylo every time. Also, I felt their relationship was contrived to salvage a Swiss cheese story directed by two separate directors and written by those two directors and a team of researchers and producers. There, I said it. lol
I mean as for live-action Star Wars, I believe REYLO is one of if not the best. I might say Leia and Han’s is better fleshed out, but it’s my personal favorite. I don’t really care about animated or the novels I’m strictly speaking of the movies or live action shows

I don’t think so, personally. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the Prequels and their romance is a highlight for me but the chemistry between Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver is downright magical in comparison
