    Another amazing video! I love watching your process. The rough color on a single layer is always so intimidating to me because it already looks finished 😆Before I had difficulty understanding the method of separating layers and clipping them to the rough color layer, but I think it was presented really clear here! Thank you for showing us your process again!

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  11 месяцев назад +30

      Aw but that's the point! I am more intimidated by the idea of having multiple unfinished layers I have to go through individually and render all of it on it's own. That way I am close to call it done when the rough colour layer is finished^^ So the satisfaction is higher since I can render whatever I want without switching and it feels more naturally to me^^
      I am glad it was more clear here. I forgot to record this step so I was worried it might be confusing. Thanks a lot for your comment :3

      @@kurohshiro Yes, it's a much faster process from the artists that I see using it! I think I might have to give it a try at some point now that I understand it a little better!

I think I am also lowkey "scared" to going back to being an artist again after stopping for so long but I have been applying some of your techniques into my new artworks and find myself having fun and hopefully courage to start posting again.. so thanks so much!

      That's amazing to hear! I am so glad you keep on drawing. Honestly there's nothing like the fear of missing out or growing out of a style in my opinion, since whatever you like is the best style, So maybe Anime style is scarry, it ranges from semi realism to absolute cartoonish simplifications. I am actually trying to apply painting techniques to my stylized anime character drawings :)
      Anyways, I am wishing you the best for your art journey, having a community to share things to and get engaged helps to get back to it, get motivated and excited to be back in the art sphere ^^

Having people and fellow artists to engage with kept me motivated and going and I miss it, hence I wanna go back asap. Your videos have been perfect guides to me to have an idea where to start so I really appreciate them and look forward to whenever you post a new one!

    Seeing you used 5 or more references on single illustration gives me a new perspective! Now i only use 1 or 2 references. I think i need to search more references from now on.
    Your method on the single layer rough color and have it clipped on individual base color layer is really amazing. I wanna try it but feel a little bit scared for making any mistake and can't go back 😂

      Ohh I use a ton of reference. When I know I want to draw a gemstone, i look for 2 or 3 references just for this single object. It's so helpful :)
      For me the single layer thing is less scary because theres nothing to ruin since I make a copy of it before I refine it. Sometimes the rougher initial shapes are the best looking ones and I won't overrender stuff like this^^

    Line variation is so hard (hence why I don’t draw lineart) but you do it so flawlessly o(^▽^)o
    the rough colouring tip has motivated me so much to continue some abandoned art, it’s really helpful. Copy pasting it also keeps the original progress so that’s a good tip.
    Also about the lasso tool, everytime I use it it makes these really pixelated edges that as a perfectionist I hate, is it just ibisPaint orrr… and how do you pick colors, my color choices are often really saturated and well, unrealistic. Maybe it’s different stylistic ideals, but I like how you art has a softer look to it.

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  11 месяцев назад +9

      Thats amazing to hear! This method makes my workflow so much less intimidating and stressful. I feel more productive this way^^
      Ah okay..I don't know how it works for Ibis Paint since in CSP its working fine. Maybe its a matter of Anti-Aliasing or the dpi of your overall file?
      For colours, I plan on making a separate video for it. But basically I try to have muted based colours and add really strong saturated hues when I colour (for shadows especially and the edges of shadows)

    As always you give us amazing content and help us see how digestible the process is, so it feels less intimidating.
    There's one thing I'm curious about... In regards to your overall progress throughout the years, when it comes to practice (although artwork and fun drawings are also another way of practice) what would you say you have done the most? artworks, wips and fun drawings or practice and studies?

    • @kurohshiro
      @kurohshiro  11 месяцев назад +1

      Actually you already mentioned it. I never practiced, I always kept on drawing one finished illustration after another. Rarely studies. That's not the best way but when I wasn't sure how things worked, I looked for references, many, and tried to implemented what i saw into my art. That way I built a visual library of how things have to look (roughly) and when there is a special, unknown thing like the paw of a tiger, I have to look up refs again. The more you draw a certain thing, the more you will remember it without references :) I hope this answer helps you ^^

      Honestly, I don't move on to lineart when I am not happy with the sketch since that's basically my foundation. This might be different for others, who can make all the important decisions when they ink but for me it has to be clear right from the beginning where the illustration is heading to. That's why I make so many different versions for arms, poses, heads etc^^
