- It happens to all of us...turn the key, and the engine just cranks. It's a problem one of our local viewers was having and this is how we did some quick field troubleshooting and got the old girl to fire up and run.

Uncle Tony: "We brought some fresh gas" in same hand as lit cigarette 😂😂😂 reminds me of my pops
Cigs won't light gas.
@@isellfoodstampz very few people seem to know this.
Tony's got us covered:
ruclips.net/video/gZfudpLsGkM/видео.html
We all know that a cigarette won't light gasoline but it is still funny to see Tony holding something flammable and a cigarette in the same hand. Good work Tony!
+Fourteen Words... I love your name. Made me laugh.
The cigarette and bottle of gasoline both in one hand proves it's an authentic Uncle Tony video. Accept nothing less!
Unbelievable.
Yeah it's perfect. Quite possibly done on purpose for humour.
Safety first!!
You can drop a cigarette into a cup of gas and it won’t ignite.
Needs to be atomized.
@@danielkane5646your wrong cigs can’t light fuel, they don’t burn hot enough
Fixes the issue in less than seven minutes, Tony's on it like a fat kid on a cupcake!
yeah but it shouldn,t have taken him that long to figure out that the timing was off . old engins are the easiest to figure out when they have problems related to timing . But htere is more to it than the timing . With the amount of gas he poured in that car should have started way before that .It was only pure luck that he got it to run on his last try . i'll bet my ass that the next day that engin was has hard to get running that it was right now cause its obvious that this engin doesn't run to its peak efficiency , far from it . Its probably why he also did not give a jirk on the throttle cause he probably knew that when he would do that the the fast iddle would step down and the engin would stall . not saying that he doesn'mt know what he's doing . just saying that once he heard the engin running he knew right away that something was wrong with the timing components . Anyone who knows these engins well will tell you that this engin was not running like it should be when it finally ran and pretty much anyone with mechanic skills from those times had already figured out why. that is also why he shot down the engin right away cause he knew something was off . A hint that gave it away was the fact that no matter whitch way he turned the timer there was no restriction when he cranked the engin a tell tale sign that the the timing is off on the cam . when a timing is spot on no amtter whitch brand of engin you crank when you will trun the timer to far off counterclock wise the engin will start to have problems to crank because the explosion occur before the stroke of the piston reaches its top dead center resulting in a kick back stroke .
@@guytremblay1647 So along with your bad grammar, where are all your subs and car videos? Oh thats right you have none don't mess with Uncle Tony he will run circles round you.
@@guytremblay1647 I don't usually say this but...shut your pie hole. You couldn't even pack Tony's lunch.
@@EarthtonesCymbals I'm sure you could pack Tony's fudge.
@@guytremblay1647 Agree. Someone said "Fixed in 7 minutes". What did he fix? He never said. I think he was a little surprised and decided to leave it at that. He moved the timing back and forth many times before it started. It's not "fixed" unless you can describe what you did to fix it. And then, you need to unfix and refix it to prove your diagnosis.
That man looked SO happy when it started now i'm happy too
"I've just met you, but I'm going to lay my cigarette right in your engine bay." You can't beat this channel..
If you don't want a cigarrette sitting temporarily on your car, you don't want Uncle Tony's help.
I love it! I've learned everything I know from guys like uncle Tony and since I've watched all the videos he feels like my uncle guess I'm gonna have to make some videos too!!
The sign of a great mechanic.
STPerform isn’t that where it goes?
Shaun Hensley
I saw that too.... cool as fuk
Hearing an engine fire up after having work done to it never gets old. Love your channel.
i hope that he didnot rebuilt that engin and only repeinted it cause at least it will be normal to see it run so poorly at the end .
Never gets hold especially if you've spent quite a while under the hood to the point you just stare at the engine...and as .."why wount you start?why?"....then out of no where our like a cat......never gets old
When Uncle Tony's at work I just shut up and watch.
Absolutely
Light a smoke first...
Kept waiting for Bam Margera to show up and slap Phil.
This cracked me up Haha
Lmfao
Why wasnt he in the new jackass forevor?
😂😂😂
That happened in real time, with no commercial breaks or cuts. No diagnostic computer, no high tech gadgets.
Uncle Tony is a genius.
Just brain power and know how.
My dad thinks that Comment is funny.
Tony “you hear that start to kick back?”
Me: -- nah, huh?
Just shake your head and nod...
Howard Walters haha - that’s exactly what I’d do!
49 yrs. Old and have been wrenching shit as long as I can remember. Thats exactly how my dad taught me. Do this, hear that? Hold this, tighten those and I remember being so proud and staring at him in pure awe that he could always get "it" to run. Good video Uncle Tony
Your dad sounds cool 😎
Engines loaded with gas, bumping the timing, and no fireworks out of the carb, not one pop, she just started like she was running all day. Uncle Tony becomes one with the engine. Awesome!!
My heart was startin’ to hurt for that starter😂
The bendix loved it
nice to hear the old Mopar starter still too but double reduction gear as opposed to one of those lighter hytorc things that sound like a foreign car starting
That's nothing. Ive cranked on starters so long you couldn't touch them they were so hot. Even used one to move a car a few times.
@@brettgast a lot of these folks are so used to fuel injection they think you turn the key and it starts within 2 seconds
Those old Mopar starters were designed for that type of cranking.
Once upon a time, and I don't know if they still do this, but Chrysler used to have diagnose and repair competitions where up and coming techs would race the clock and try to figure out what was wrong with jury rigged cars. This video reminded me of that time. As a side note, that V belt looked mighty loose. ;-)
Plymouth Trouble Shooting contest. Good memories
I can remember those, they use to put it in the magazine and let teams of high school kids go at it...
Today's kids aren't interested in working on real cars . The only way you can get kids to do things like this now is to make it a video game about it...

Haha back when I got into working on cars , an old timer gave me a stack of troubleshooting books for 80s Chrysler stuff and a breakout box computer diagnostic thing.
Even then, it was more of a conversation piece than actually useful.
Nice catch on the v-belt.
You’re a good man Uncle Tony.
Cheers😊
Last time I help out a random person they kept coming back every time something breaks.
Neighbors are the same way...
Do they bring beer and food?
Start charging them...
Tech NO City It's like feeding animals in your yard. They keep coming back.
Tell'em just like the drug dealers.... 1st one was free now you gotta pay up.
I haven't seen anyone back the wires off in a long time, that's an old school trick for flooded engines and weak coils, man your on top of the game!
if you are having a weak spark its more that likly the condenser --could be wrong value condenser or defective condenser coils usually go open and quit coils and cond must match to perform correctly -test this way remove sparplug wire from plug insert screw driver hold close to eng at idle how far will spark jump 1/2 in is good less than 3/8 is bad install correct cond it will jump about 3/4 inch go to dealer to lok up that year part # then tryto cross ref, with modern #s online what happens over the years wrong value is installed over and over i did this for my 53 m37 spark went fron 1/8 in to 3/4 inch its worth the effort .
hahahahaha! i see it alot.
I know right I f****** learned that when I was a teenager and I'm 59 trying to help my young family member with his first El Camino and we're trying we're trying to get it started and man I know I was thinking it's not getting a spark but I'll remember that next time give it some room fire in the hole combustion chamber boom kill two birds with one stone get a spark and dry out the cylinder in a second now if only I could do my hair like that when I'm late for work
By next time or remember later I mean that's not going to be the issue right here cuz it's been sitting in a hot ass desert that's been 117 everyday for a thousand years and it's all full of dirt so it probably needs spark plugs I doubt if it needs to back off Gap but you never know it's a great dance move anyway right back it up back it up back it up LOL
the old leave spark plug wires loose for hotter spark trick good job.love that guys smile. see tommorow!!!!
I was having a bad day today and this just put a smile on my face hearing that old 383 fire up thanks
@@dancage2446 I stand corrected I thought he said 383 or maybe I just wanted it to be a 383 one or the other sadly I have a visual impairment so unless it's right in front of my face I couldn't tell the difference if it's a small block or big block
actually a poly 318
@@sincerelysophie462 Absolutely Correct.. Poly 318..
@@dancage2446 yeah that's what they called the bigger 318 back in the day...
383 and all Mopar B motors have the dizzy up front
Those old 318s look so big. Love the old dodges....a nice car too. Don't forget your smoke on the fender near your gas container😎
Happy car owner, happy mechanic, happy viewer... Triple play! Well done.
The coolest part of this is that you helped out a random dude AND got to use that to make a video...win win.👍
I used to love that feeling, getting called out to fix a car that won't start, after the world and his dog has had a go, and getting it running in under 10 minutes.
Nice work Tony!
You're in good hands man if Uncle Tony is on the case.
Uncle T, the classic car whisperer. 👍👍☮️
I remember going through this on my slant six. The plastic timing gear broke. It should have taken a short amount of time to figure it out. But now I've learned. Good stuff.
Thank you Uncle Tony!!! Don't know how many times when I was younger I had this issue... never thought about one or two items you did. Keep on Keepin' on!! I got some tricks to pass along now also to the younger generation.
Had 62 caddie no start back in the day. My buddy found the coil dead right off, then shorted the ground with the positive lead sparkling a few times. Hooked it back to the positive coil post and it fired right off. I think, or I'm telling it backwards. Looked at me and said "you need a coil". Miss you Big Tony, smiles always.
This guy is the most kick ass! 🤘 Helping and teaching folks around the world about their cars and how to trouble shoot, diagnosing, and solving the related issues they eventually will have with their obsessive passion and love for their sweet ass rides! 🤘
Great video! I just got my 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme to run and drive yesterday. She sat since 1992 and she runs really strong. The 350 she has runs smooth and she shifts great. Now to get the small things figured out! Thanks to your videos I've learned alot!
Wow and double wow
Faster than a burning cigarette, Uncle Tony strikes again !!
THIS is how it's done! Hell of an amazing live working video Tony!
Love the way an experienced mechanic -( that's Tony) can deduce so much from subtle sounds
How can you not like Uncle Tony? Some of the vids he does are great. From trouble shooting lawn cars, how to hunt for a project car, and even a video on inline 6 engines. The broad spectrum makes his channel so entertaining to watch. Keep it up Tony. The cigarette in the same hand as the gas can has military motor pool written all over it, lol.
love the sound of a gear reduction starter in an old mopar. smile on the face at 6:40 is every man that has worked on a car and got it running
Killer 7 Minute how to video.
Uncle Tony leads the Savages to civilization. Lectures and seminars to rows of fools laughing behind the back of the Boy Wonder. Building on his work.
This would have killed 10 ordinary men. One man's Madness is another man's genius.
Bravo Uncle Tony. I used to be conceited but now I'm perfect.
Way to slay the no start metallic turquoise Beast. Now nothing more than a pigment of his imagination. Rock on Uncle Tony!
This video sends me back to the best car years of my life... my first car was a white 4dr '64 Plymouth 318 poly. I rebuilt that 2V Carter Ball & Ball a dozen times, replaced the bypass hose another million, and obsessively kept the points set to where the car would start just by looking at it. When I'd finish working on it, I'd go back out to the garage and work on my Vitamin-C Superbird. It was paradise.
Uncle Tony Great channel There are not to many old school mechanics that know and work on old classic cars. They are easier then the new ones with the sensors and computer.I had to learn about the new cars .Still learning and the old classics. Fine tuning the carbs is hit or miss .You got some good old school tips and taught me some things I did not know Thanks for taking the time to show the videos
Uncle Tony. You are the best I love the way you analyze and troubleshoot the car by hearing touching and smelling your way around the engine bay like a fine hart surgeon saving the patient who is on life-support you can actually see the relief on the owners face once that baby fired right up and she’s going to live. To drive another hundred thousand miles 😂DR. Uncle Tony to the rescue. You are amazing you’re the best
Great job Tony, I’m sure he is very appreciative for the hand you gave. Really nice of you .👍
Lit cigarette in the engine bay, squirting fuel all over the engine bay, fixing the issue in 5 minutes... priceless. This is seriously the best car channel out there!!
Amazing!! Running in 7 minutes!! I’ve never heard of the “leaving the spark plug wire a little loose” trick, very cool!!
End of a hectic day, Tony and a cigar, I figured timing that's what they have trouble with on a rebuild...ask how I know.
easy . The cranking did not change no matter how far he turned the timer in both directions . normally when you go to far counterclok wise and he did go far the engin should have cranked like it need a 24 volt battery to crank it but it didn't . it cranked the same way no matter whitch way and how far . what does that telle us ?
Gonna try this on my Buick Regal tomorrow, it’s an 83, and cranks but won’t start. I’m 22 and people don’t wanna help because it’s a carburetor or it’s an arm and a leg. So thanks a lot man, God bless you!🇺🇸 The joy you brought to that man, respect!
Love the refresher!!!! Nice car Randy!!! Thank You Both!
wow I never new the trick on slippin back some on wires to enhance spark for a car with wet plugs , thanx uncle tony ...coulda used that trick on a mad max movie car a few weeks ago
Hey look at you go Uncle Tony,, you are the man very good job.. thanks for your time and not letting us and the man down..
Some of the most fun I had when I worked at the shop was diagnosing crank no starts.
Pretty soon you'll be pulling cars out of a swamp and having them ready for a big money auction in an hour, just like on tv.
getting an engin running after a long period without running is the easy part getting it to run good is the hard part
Lots of old school tricks. Good job.
Thanks, Uncle Tony! I am restoring an old ski boat and just replaced the fuel line for the 350 Windsor. after doing so, she was not turning over. After watching this video, checked the plugs and had a spark so then I got some new gas and put it into the Carb and she turned it over in minutes and now purs like a kitten!! thanks again!
Classic Tony! The Master used his eyes and ears. In the grass nearby, the (Little) GrassHOPPAAS , crickets , and even spiders stopped and showed respect.
Just watching this now, was helping a buddy dissemble his Nailhead. badass uncle T!
Good job uncle Tony! You really know your stuff ! That's the advantages of knowing automobiles!
Wow. Great job. That is so kind of you to help this guy out
Once again you've proven you are the man the myth the legend
It`s all in the timing!! lol..adding gas with a lit cig in his hand. Love it Uncle Tony.
I have to say, I love this channel. I can ALMOST do that with an old Honda, figuring out in a few minutes why there is a no start... My friend's Toyota though, I am pulling my hair out.
Love the sound of those Chrysler starters.
I agree! Awesome sound!
I had a crank no start problem on my 65 GMC. For months with the little time I had, I couldn't figure it out. Today I tried backing the plugs along with other tricks and she started! Now I notice I have a leak lol, on to the next fix. Thanks for the tips and tricks!
Tony, you did it again.... as always you make them light up and run .... good job, 👍
Love that sound !!! And the old days !!
Me too on both counts!
This was awesome Tony! Saving this one for reference. Thanks for sharing your knowledge brother. See you tomorrow.
That's a sweet 64 Polara and with the big Poly 318. I like it a lot I love the 1964 Mopar's the Polara and the Fury
SHAZAM!!!!! UR THE GREATEST!!! NARY A BEARD, EYE BROW OR BALL CAP SINGED!!!
Just to quote the great Rodney Dangerfield. Women and cars are so much alike. How many times on a cold morning, when you really need it, she's breathing hard, but won't turn over. Uncle Tony you get all the respect!
Love those poly engines.
No Tony! You are very good at explaining things! But I get what you were saying! There's a time to explain and then there is a time to do! I'm the same. Thanks Unc great filming Kathy!

Nice '64 Polara.....I had one too and loved it. I found a 4bl set up for it and it dualled it off and it made a nice difference.
Splashing gas, sparks flying and a lit ciggy. Just beautiful!
Nice of you to help UT
Thanks Uncle Tony! Just got my la318 to start by messing with distributor timing. Party On in my 1977 Dodge b200!
Wooow just like that! Tony and his magic gas and hands 👌
Great Job! I like how you did it by ear.....
Aren't 318 polys pretty hard to find now? It's a cool engine.
Gli Italiani Sono I migliori meccanici . Your videos are great there's nothing like old-time mechanics
OUTSTANDING, I didn’t doubt you at all.
Morning, Tony your great, down to earth. I live in the uk and the owner of a 43year oil ford rv 7.3 v8 you've help me a lot big thanks
I love the sound of those old Mopar gear reduction starters....
I love that sound too! Nothing quite like it!
Uncle Tony's is a National Treasure!!
Welp, for us newbies why did it finally start? The plugs were wet, couldn’t you have just waited for them to dry and it would fire? Or is it pump/carb issue not getting enough fuel to fire up? Or was the timing just off coupled with wet plugs
That was about it...timing off and wet plugs
This 3 year old video made cry… tears of joy 😢😢😢😭
Very educational. Your videos are the best.
Yes! Just needed to learn this before I start up my engine. (Bike carbed 4ag).
@Prez Bee just a 77 toyota celica. Bought it for my mum and been working on it for a few years.
@Prez Bee yeah, lucky this one isn't.
@Prez Bee nice. I had a 89 s13 years ago. So easy to work on and upgrade. Love the s chassis.
Outstanding Tony!!!!
Usually it's a fuel problem, but checking for spark at the end of a spark plug wire is so easy to do in a few seconds, it's the go-to first step. And about holding the spark plug boot a bit off the spark plug wire to increase the voltage is duplicated by holding the coil wire a bit off, to do all the spark plugs at once.
Tony saves the day nice one mate 😀😀
Only borrowed my brother's timing light once. Just couldn't get it by sound. Took longer to read instructions. Was D'mn close. Will borrow and use in a heartbeat in the future.
love your videos dad had a 64 polara like that. i had a 64 dart with a 225
Love checking out the comments and seeing everything I was thinking and more. Too Funny!
