I can't describe how valuable these videos are, Honest reviews, and not trying to push the corporate line, In this day and age the transparency is unheard of, Thank you Luke!
Also I am sorry but thankful for the situations you put yourself in, and I really commend your preparedness for a back-up shelter, and you do a really good job trying to engrain that lesson into your videos, As the scouts always say, "BE PREPARED" 👍
I’ve only been camping twice in my life. I admire you and anybody else that knows how to camp and knows what to do. I have no desire to go camping, but I love watching your videos in your adventures.
I too, was going to call it the Aqua Coffin, but you beat me to it. Maybe you are supposed to bring your bass fishing rig into the tent. Who knows, if it rains had you might get lucky. (with fish that is. Wet chicks in a small tent are not fun!)
Until I watched your channel, I just accepted the fact that all tents leak- and I love tent camping, but hated when it rained, for good reason. I found a great tent that you tested and recommended and I am so thankful! I'm so done with cheap leaky tents!!😊
Thanks again Luke for your efforts and helping others to make better decisions. Under the wrong circumstances that tent could be disastrous. There is always a certain amount of “ you get what you pay for” involved.
My nephew tried using it 3 weeks ago, he was so proud of it😂😂 brought it all the way from PA to Colorado! When putting it up and and having me inspect it, I could tell it was a waste of money😢 do to the excessive rain all weekend long, I was able to put them up in a hammock with a good rain fly to keep him out of the weather. Told him to take it back
I love this guy and his adventures! He will live forever! Such great videos and I know a lot of work goes into these videos. I enjoy them so much! My husband calls him the ‘The Camp King’. 😊
Really appreciate you taking the hit on this for the good of the community. You may have saved some unfortunate and inexperienced campers life. Great video my friend. All the best from Greece, Jono 👍🏕️🙂🙏
I am a short chick and even I would have trouble trying to just sleep in it. If you turn over in that thing, you will be soaked. Trying to ride out a storm would be very unpleasant. I don't even want to try and imagine needing to take a pee in the middle of the night. That tent is not even decent for kids to campout in the backyard. I don't even want to think of what could happen to someone out in the middle of nowhere in wet conditions. I am sharing this video with as many people as possible. Thank you, Luke.
Thanks Luke. I’m a fan of Bass Pro Shop. Never bought a tent & now never will. I need a small tent for some car camping this summer. I follow you for all these great tests. Thanks for the ones you have to suffer through. Stay safe.
Everyone has a right to their opinion though … What makes these videos fun is the tents are pushed to their limit to see how they will react. I think good video 👍
It might be the form factor too, I had a single tent like that years ago and camped about a half dozen times in it, it got condensation like you experienced and the final time I used it before throwing it away was when it stormed and I was getting soaked, had to bug out to my 2 seater car to sleep the rest of the night.
I bought an identical tent a few years ago - but was branded Field & Stream. I used it in October during a moderate rain, but I also pitched it under a 9x12 tarp and kept the rain flaps on the entrance open. Like you said, the sides drooped inward, but other than that it was an OK experience. So a $20 tent combined with a $10 plastic tarp can work.
Really appreciate your no nonsense reviews. You aren't unfairly attacking products just to make a video, you're warning people and companies about the true nature of their products. Manufacturers should be paying you!
Hi Luke, I really enjoy your adventures. They’ve helped me pass the time while I recover from open heart surgery. I’m hoping to get out and enjoy some adventures of my own soon. Thank you for making these and keep up the good work!
Luke, just got back from a 3 night four day camping trip. My 4 year old Gazelle T-4 is still doing great! I have a blowup bed/ twin size 20 inches high. I lay a cheap thin felt cover inside on the floor. It soft to walk on and helps to keep pokey things from puncturing the bed. I had three heavy rain storms come through also, No leaks! So also inside is a 3'X2' table and a standard size camping chair. My iPhone, laptop, lights, zip up luggage case and small fan complete whats inside my T-4. I don't think I could even crawl into that coffin yet backwards! But I know you just had to do it! Just tell Bass Pro to put a rainbow on both sides, Cheers, Eff Bud Light.
Dude, STRENGTH and Honour indeed... As we say here in the UK, you are looking hench!! Love content as always keep it up, and clearly keep the gym workouts going! 💪
Cabela s Alaskan guide is the only tent they make I’ve used and I’ve been in 80mph gusts with water actually flowing underneath the tent to 2. To 3 ft of snow on top of it no leaks or worries at all you should review it
LOL! Now I want to see you sleep in more solo 1 person tents. My go to is the Eureka! Solitaire AL, but looking to also grab their Midori 1 person tent. Thank you for all your honest product reviews!
Luke, always love watching your videos. We have a Bass Pro close to us and it just seems so pricey. I don’t doubt they have some good gear. This tent I agree is a death trap. If the rain would have been heavy and the outdoor temps would have been very cold for your neck of the woods, I could see how someone could get hypothermia. If they were not trained on how to get out of that situation it could be a life and death situation. Thank you for this series as I know it helps those that need to know before buying.
Getting out of a hypothermia situation from a tent such as this would be an excellent topic for a video. If he hasn't done one already. Not everyone would have a vehicle to escape to for emergencies.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and reviews, which I have occasionally passed on to family and friends. I've camped in good and bad situations. The only thing I can think to do if stuck out in the woods with this would be break down the tent, lay it flat as a ground insulator, and use the ground sheet as a tarp! You'd likely be somewhat drier! 🤔
Idk, I think I would opt for that shower curtain you were talking about in one video. Btw I had a storm kick up out here by the great lakes where the hail came down the size of baseballs. I was standing at my door trying to figure how to cover the windows on my trucks. . This hail was so damaging I had two of those shelterlogic garage in a box shelters. And the hail went right through them both. Yeah I feel sorry for some poor kids that go camping and get soaked. It could be deadly. Your vids are very informative. Now I know what look for in good tents. After seeing these vids I definitely carry an extra tent, or a big tarp.
An ice storm can be just as damaging, it's been my experience. The weight of the ice just pulls on the seams, and and wind make the ice like a saw when the tent flaps!
Such an important series in my opinion. So many new campers buy the cheapest tent and have a miserable experience and never try again. You also explain why they don't or do work. I bought a super cheap tent years ago and got lucky. I hope you find one that works.
Thanks for sharing your insight. Hopefully it helps people that are starting out, to not get burned and have bad experiences. Or worse, get hurt in the process!
Bass Pro and Cabela's are pretty nice outfitter stores similar to Sportsman's Warehouse but much larger. I am surprised at that quality of a tent from them. On the opposite end of the quality spectrum is the Cabela's Alaskan Guide series tent which I think is unbeatable for winter camping in storm conditions
Thank you for taking us on your adventures! I appreciate your real reviews. I am from NC and went through an Outward Bound course. It was held in that area. I know that area well. I will not name it just to keep it a little bit more of a secret from those that do not know the area. Thanks for allowing me to come along and enjoy that area again. BTW, I now live in Colorado. I absolutely love the outdoors and the wilderness. Maybe on your’s and Suzy’s next trip out here we will cross paths. Thank you again!
@@ncpinky8495Yes it does. I love that area. NC has many magical places. I am fortunate to know about many of them. Some are hidden some aren’t. I just hope that they don’t get overrun like many places out here in Colorado. I know that it happening there too in some places.

I agree that quality matters but for folks on the cheap or casual campers, there might not be too many options. The main argument is that rain is not the only weather (which is majority of your testing). You could use it in cloud free skies and use a tarp when needed. Ventilation is a bigger concern here but some of the other tents you’ve failed could work in normal weather with a tarp combo for rainy weather.
If you are putting a tent under a tarp, why even bother with the tent. Just sleep under the tarp. Tarps are also often more expensive than these tents and the people who would be looking at buying this tent probably wont put a tarp over it. A tent has to resist a little rain, its the most basic function of a tent
@@pyotrilyichtchaikovsky3733 A wise owl tarp is $11 on Amazon, just checked. Look, I agree - ideally a tent should do everything. My beef is that the tests on this RUclips channel are always done in rain and the second a few drops show up, all hell break loose and it’s the worst thing ever and he has to always evac to his truck. I live in California and it’s sunny 10 months out of the year. These tents he keep failing would be just fine over here. For the freak storm scenario, you take a tarp. If you have money then by all means, get the right tool for the job that doesn’t need extra help. For a casual backpacker, these should work.
@@pyotrilyichtchaikovsky3733 Again, if you’re in a region like I am where it doesn’t rain 10 months out of the year, the purpose is mostly protection against the sun, wind and bugs - and some psychological safety of being in an enclosed space. Rain isn’t the only weather!
@@h.h.1266 Yes, but in many places rain is more common than sun and bugs. And still, a tent needs to protect you from the rain, its a basic requirement. I understand that if the region you come from this might not be as big of a risk but in a colder area, getting your sleeping bag wet is a good way to die or at the very least be in need of rescue and medical attention. Hypothermia is no joke and nothing chills you to the bone quicker than getting wet. Its legitimately dangerous because tents like these are also sold in areas where it rains and is cold, thus need to be able to withstand that. Or there could be very serious consequences.
Gotta love that no sleep, 5am smack talk! Thats how you know you had a crappy night. I've never been to a Bass Pro store but I expect better from Cabela's. I guess since BPS bought them things have changed.
if a tent leaks, you get wet it's cold out (temp drops at night) you freeze, yes you have all the equipment to survive (but it may get wet unless wool) maybe no one has died (or they have and it's just reported dead at scene) poorly made jackets can kill you if gotten wet (again i think it's report dead at scene) i can see the news headlines "leaking tent kills hiker" more at 11. or 7 hikers found on trail 2 survive for having better tent. with all that happens today would be interesting if anyone (police, forest service ever written up a report of cause of death because of wet tent) written as extreme cold cause death of camper/hiker for being wet from tent or something like that. but it could just be a saying like "this tent will kill you" as a general caution. but a good subject up bringing.
Back story, I've been "camping" for over 60 years. From backyard adventures to section hiking the AT, including disaster response, and SAR. None of my tents have cost me more than $100. I have always also bought 2 cans of CampDry or similar for each. Mine have always lasted 5- 10 years. I've never had the funds to put towards "good" equipment. Have I had some bad outings, yes! But so have all my friends who had much more money. That said, you are absolutely right. Each of the tents I've bought should have come with warnings and a free can of waterproofing and seamsealer! And believe me, had I had the money I would have bought better. Eureka has had some of the "better" cheap tents in my experience. Whether from SkyCity or Walmart, or Gander Mountain. Thanks for your advice and opinions. Better than the rest as far as I'm concerned.
CampDry was a silicone type waterproofing spray for outdoor gear. I believe the company was bought out, or Kiwi stopped making it, and have something different now.
I can't remember which one, but I've seen a video made at his house. It shows down in his basement where a section of it is full of shelves loaded with tents, tarps and other camping equipment.
Remember, he has sales several times per year on used items. I doubt he's ever returned anything, also he pays for all of it out of his own pocket. He is who he says he is, actually One of a Kind and only person on All Social Media who gives us 100% Truthful reviews.. . First Class all the way..
Ca-bail-uh? Thanks for the review never heard or seen this Bass Pro Body Bag product. Also never seen tent poles in that red color previously. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Cheers🎉 BTW: been receiving Cabela’s and Bass Pro catalog since I was a young kid. Name pronounced Ca-bell-ah, however after seeing that it will flood inside needing to be bailed out for the water somewhat prefer your pronunciation.
My two favorite tents are the Husky Sawaj pyramid tent (set up with one hikingpole) and the A frame tent from DD Hammocks. Both are reasonable priced tents wich have proven themselfs in heavy downpoors in our Dutch summers.
I'm actually very surprised at Cabelas/Bass Pro for putting their name on it. As far as the best "cheap" tent I've ever had, it was (is) a Coleman Sundome. I paid less than 50 bucks for it, and it's held up really well. I don't use it anymore because I graduated to canvas tents.
I agree. I've been using my Coleman Sundome tent now for many years and never had any issues with it. I've camped out in it during torrential rain... I MEAN TORRENTIAL rain and never had a drop of rain get inside. Great tent for car camping at a campground.
Looks cool in concept - bigger than a bivy but smaller than a dome tent. Smaller to stay warm in winter environment. I have been looking for a tent this size. Thanks for testing.
I stayed in a Bass pro tent years ago. Bad storm, tent filled with water. I slept in my car. Took it back, got my money back no questions. Now I car camp with Kodiak canvas 2 person and 4 person tents. No problems. Thanks for your reviews.
Hi Luke! My one question is - isn’t the definition of a tent ⛺️ a shelter? How does this piece of garbage qualify as a shelter??? If it doesn’t provide protection from mild conditions then it is worse than useless, as it gives the inexperienced consumer a FALSE sense of security! Thanks for all you do! Frances
I purchased a 4 Man tent from Bass Pro 10 years ago because the reviews where overwhelmingly positive.......My guess is the reviewers never used it in the rain or left their back yard with it.
My friend brought this for an Appalachian trail section hike. He's about 6'4", 270 lbs, and I have no clue how he managed to get into it. We had a light misty rain and he got absolutely soaked, either from the rain, the condensation, or both. I slept great in a Teton Sports Vista 1 tent with minimal condensation on the rainfly. For my next section hike I bought the Kelty Late Start 1, as it is lighter and packs up smaller.
I'm sure you knew exactly what you were in for with your vast experience . But you did it for us. I guess . That tent is something for a 8 yr old sleeping in the backyard 20 ft from Mom and Dads backdoor. They can pretend their in the wilderness and have a blast under the stars . We all gotta start somewhere . This tent is a start tent for kids in the yard. We both know that . Thank you, Sir. You Rock !
That tent looks amazing! Very sturdy and breathable. 100% waterproof, too! I like how much room there is on the inside - could easily sleep 4 adults. HAHA! JK. Thanks for this series. This was definitely informative and ... entertaining.
LOL! I’m loving the cheap tent series. I snort laughed with you said you were questioning every life decision you’ve ever made when looking at this tent! Love the videos; keep ‘em coming!
But it's so believable. I for one am just like that. I start off thoughtful, then I question my choices and then I loose my cool... Usually by then my Irish vocabulary comes into play and the air goes blue... Probably good that it's not me vlogging... Lol 😂
I have a large flat roof rack on my old xj cherokee and I'm considering getting something like this for the top when the weather is bad in the PNW. looking forward to your review
The cheap and nasty tent reviews are an excellent idea, because the first camping experience many people have often involves a bargain basement scenario. Whenever someone declares they hate camping, dig a little and you’ll often find their first outdoor experience was a nightmare resulting from cheap gear that was simply not fit for purpose. With that in mind, why would these same people go on to spend decent money for decent kit when they’re left associating camping with an unexpected fight for survival? In short, cheap gear drives people away from the great outdoors and that’s no joke. Luke, keep exposing the companies trying to inflict exposure on their customers.
That's exactly what my friend did. We hiked 13 miles on the Appalachian Trail in 90 degree weather and then a misty rain and condensation ruined his sleep. I slept like a baby in my $80 tent
I am glad Luke you are doing this series. It has been very informative and things to look for on an inexpensive camp & overnight hike or bike tent. You honestly don't know at times hiking that a strong wind, rain event could hit. Like one time on the Bruce Peninsula Trail, up on a cliff area overlooking Lake Huron. We needed and had a strong 2 person tent, well made in the 90's. It stood through wind, hail, lightning. Trees fell around us we were dry and safe from rain and wind. Had a rain tarp that went over tent, plenty of stakes and ropes for securing. Now quality has gone down for the makers of these tents. Basically 75.00 for a cheap fair to good tent that will keep you dry 85% of time. Maybe the coffin tent would be better used in the house for kids to play in.
I have a Coleman 5-person tent I bought 9 years ago and used it on many camping trips. It's gone through some severe thunderstorms and has never leaked! Paid around $110 for it and got my money's worth! Haven't gone camping much the last 4 years due to cancer treatments and surgery.
These videos are always fun. To see what a tent will do when pushed to its limit. I have an old ROKK and a military tent both that do great for me for many many years… I bring a light weight tarp just in case … thanks for the great video!🎉
Great review and series. This is exactly what people need to see before they go out and buy some “cheap” gear. I own another BP/Cabelas tent, and have had zero issues with my Ascend Nine Mile 1. Big difference between the $30 tent in your video and the $130 Ascend tent. I found my Ascend used, for $40, and that is the best $40 I have ever spent on a tent. Don’t pay full price for hiking/camping equipment, if you can help it.
Would be in hospital if you were hiking or cycling without Extra coverage you done a great review that could save a lot of discomfort for folks well done a big thank you from Scotland.

I live in California and it’s sunny 10 months out of the year. These tents he keep failing would be just fine over here. For the freak storm scenario, you take a tarp. If you have money then by all means, get the right tool for the job that doesn’t need extra help. For a casual backpacker, these should work.
@@h.h.1266 not just ideally. If a tent isn't rainproof then what is the point of a tent
Thank for all your reviews. Strength and Honor
Hi Susie! Yes we like seeing you suffer! Lol. Only because we know you always have a backup plan! Frances
You sir, are the Harry Potter of tent reviewers. 😄 I would be so claustrophobic in that thing!
expelliarmus
I have this tent & my fish love it!
♠️🤘🏼🏚️🤠🚬
Great idea, Luke……. Stay close to the Tundra⛈️🌧️⛈️……..moral of this review, Always bring along a tarp to cover a cheap tent😄🤷🏼♂️😄
But that would not have helped with condensation!😟🤷♀️🏕️. You would not expect to go swimming in your tent! Lol 😝
Gotta love that no sleep, 5am smack talk! Thats how you know you had a crappy night.
I've never been to a Bass Pro store but I expect better from Cabela's. I guess since BPS bought them things have changed.
I've heard you mention on numerous occasions that certain tents will kill you. Do you have an specific examples of someone dying from a leaking tent?
Of course not
if a tent leaks, you get wet it's cold out (temp drops at night) you freeze, yes you have all the equipment to survive (but it may get wet unless wool) maybe no one has died (or they have and it's just reported dead at scene) poorly made jackets can kill you if gotten wet (again i think it's report dead at scene) i can see the news headlines "leaking tent kills hiker" more at 11. or 7 hikers found on trail 2 survive for having better tent. with all that happens today would be interesting if anyone (police, forest service ever written up a report of cause of death because of wet tent) written as extreme cold cause death of camper/hiker for being wet from tent or something like that. but it could just be a saying like "this tent will kill you" as a general caution. but a good subject up bringing.
“If there’s one thing that girls like, it’s really small shitty tents.”
Haha that one made me chuckle.
Back in the 70's I used the smaller bivy style tents from Eureka. The solitaire I think. Tiny AF but never leaked or fell down.
I love these cheap tent series. I love seeing how irritated and frustrated you get you can tell that it is pissing you off bad.
Canuck here. What is “camp dry”?
CampDry was a silicone type waterproofing spray for outdoor gear. I believe the company was bought out, or Kiwi stopped making it, and have something different now.
Like the stove and cookware. Thanks, Luke, for all your great research
You should show us how you store all your gear. I’m interested in how you organize all of it.
@@gilg2560Says who? Quite a number of products will be in multiple videos spanning long ranges of times
@@gilg2560 Guess I walked right into that one
I can't remember which one, but I've seen a video made at his house. It shows down in his basement where a section of it is full of shelves loaded with tents, tarps and other camping equipment.
Remember, he has sales several times per year on used items. I doubt he's ever returned anything, also he pays for all of it out of his own pocket. He is who he says he is, actually One of a Kind and only person on All Social Media who gives us 100% Truthful reviews.. . First Class all the way..
First class Luke
Really love the music at the end
Ca-bail-uh? Thanks for the review never heard or seen this Bass Pro Body Bag product. Also never seen tent poles in that red color previously. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Cheers🎉
BTW: been receiving Cabela’s and Bass Pro catalog since I was a young kid.
Name pronounced Ca-bell-ah, however after seeing that it will flood inside needing to be bailed out for the water somewhat prefer your pronunciation.
I like that color. It looks good on you Luke
My two favorite tents are the Husky Sawaj pyramid tent (set up with one hikingpole) and the A frame tent from DD Hammocks.
Both are reasonable priced tents wich have proven themselfs in heavy downpoors in our Dutch summers.
I bought the REI 1 man tent for backpacking and I LOVE IT. It wasn’t too terribly inexpensive…..$190….. but it’s amazing.
Your coat is colored TEAL
It seems like a lot of these tent makers simply don't rain test their tents. They get a pattern, cut up some material, sew it up and send it.
Frances
Thank you for making these and showing To us unexperienced
I purchased a 4 Man tent from Bass Pro 10 years ago because the reviews where overwhelmingly positive.......My guess is the reviewers never used it in the rain or left their back yard with it.
I really appreciate these videos.
I have been learning a lot of life saving information
I'd be afraid to get sick trying to sleep in that tent overnight even with just light sprinkles. Wow!
It sucks😂
WOKE PUPPIES
Love the ending where the coffin is unceremoniously chucked in the back.
LMAO, it's just fun to watch Luke get more and more snarky.
T.Y. Very thorough. I appreciate that.
Imagine hitting the trail and finding yourself in a hypothermia situation overnight.
That's exactly what my friend did. We hiked 13 miles on the Appalachian Trail in 90 degree weather and then a misty rain and condensation ruined his sleep. I slept like a baby in my $80 tent
Seems like that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen when someone is put in legit danger over it.
That's cool. A table you can hook up to your wheel!
Thanks to Suzie for picking the tent. This is what the average shopper would see visiting BPS store and wonder the same question.
I like the jacket. Nice color.
I have a Coleman 5-person tent I bought 9 years ago and used it on many camping trips. It's gone through some severe thunderstorms and has never leaked! Paid around $110 for it and got my money's worth! Haven't gone camping much the last 4 years due to cancer treatments and surgery.
Absolutely beautiful video.
These videos are always fun. To see what a tent will do when pushed to its limit. I have an old ROKK and a military tent both that do great for me for many many years… I bring a light weight tarp just in case … thanks for the great video!🎉
Im enjoying this series!
Don’t buy cheap gear,it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that cheap means crap…
you have an awesome setup wow you really know what your doing :)
I believe I’ve finally seen a tent that isn’t as good as the backpack 8$ plastic tube tents we used in the 1960’s and 70’s. This is a first for me!
RIVER COUNTRY PRODUCTS! Trekker tent! I have one and its great! Great support! Great price! Served me well so far
Would be in hospital if you were hiking or cycling without Extra coverage you done a great review that could save a lot of discomfort for folks well done a big thank you from Scotland.
