We take out our BRAND NEW Boat Camper on a remote lake in the Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota! This is a 16 foot aluminum fishing boat that I redesigned and built a cabin on top of to be able to explore lakes and spend the night out on the water. We explore the islands of this lake, go for a hike on the mainland, do some fishing, have a campfire and hunker down inside the cozy cabin for a rainstorm.

The sounds of the water hitting the boat brought me back to days gone by when my parents and I would go fishing in Minnesota. I'd give anything to have those days back. Just to hear that sound once more before I die.
Years ago, when I was still in the US Navy, and stationed at Great Lakes, we spent a week with my Brother in Law, who lived in Two Harbors, MN at the time. Trailered 2 open aluminum boats up to the boundary waters, launched them, and camped on one of the islands and fished all day. Harvested a lot of walleyes, and threw back any of the boney Northern Pikes. It’s hard to beat the peacefulness up there. Really get to give your ears a rest. This was back in 1979. I hope it has not changed since then, but I fear that it may have.
18 months from the last time we heard it together. Man you really put that into the right words! If I heard “the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” (one of pops tunes) rn my heart would melt. I wonder if this same idea would work on a fiberglass boat?

Many years ago when I was healthier I had 2 golden retrievers. My female was an awesome fisherman. We'd fish for trout in Colorado and she would always come up with one. Amazed me.

Wow if your lil 28 footer is using 15 gallons / hour i would definitely have it looked at , I own a 38ft 2010 mustang that only uses 20 litres / hour each engine (2 large inboard engines ) which is about 5 gallons per hour each engine at about 2600 rpm and this boat is 10 ft bigger than your regal .✌️
@@aussieguy3689 we burn so much because we have a single big block gas engine and mostly travel on the Hudson River and Erie Canal. Up on a plane, most of the time to cover long distances as fast as possible. you can almost watch the fuel gauge go down in front of your eyes. looks like you’re from Australia. I’ve always wanted to try Vegemite.

At 68, retired, tired and home bound, I love this! The beauty of Chippewa National Forest is amazing. I live in S. Texas and you remind me of Jeremiah Johnson (R. Redford), my favorite movie and actor. I'll watch it tonight for the 30th time. The self-made boat cabin is excellent. Always keep mosquitos and snakes out and rejoice!
Hey Jack, I love your new boat camper. What a great idea I have a suggestion to make sitting on that seat, putting your legs up on the gunwall a little more comfortable take some of those long foam noodles cut them down the middle and fit those over the edge of the gunwall. Sure makes it more comfortable on the ankles.

I do not like videos people post labeled “easy” or “cheap” or “inexpensive” camping or “simple” tent made on floats to sleep on lake and have TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars in gear and equipment, usually brand new. Cooking fancy meals with high end cooking equipment. That’s showing off and not realistic for most people. You keep it simple, no sugar coating, and it’s realistic- for me at least. I’m always looking for new ideas, not fantasizing. I really enjoyed your video. Your mini cabin on your boat is awesome, I love it and want one! Thank you for sharing.

Kind of what I always wanted. A well-equipped "cabin cruiser" for fishing and camping on lakes and rivers. You're living the dream. Doesn't take a very big boat for you to load up all the comforts.

Do a search on "Foamie Campers" It would be a great way to build a small, lightweight, well insulated, tiny house on a good size pontoon boat. Use what they call "poor mans fiberglass" to cover it. Basically canvas glued on, and saturated with oil base paint. I have seen teardrop campers covered with it that were 10 - 12 years old and still looked great. (they covered airplanes with it for 60+ years)

At 68, retired, tired and home bound, I love this! The beauty of Chippewa National Forest is amazing. I live in S. Texas and you remind me of Jeremiah Johnson (R. Redford), my favorite movie and actor. I'll watch it tonight for the 30th time. The self-made boat cabin is excellent. Always keep mosquitos and snakes out and rejoice!

Hey Jack, I love your new boat camper. What a great idea I have a suggestion to make sitting on that seat, putting your legs up on the gunwall a little more comfortable take some of those long foam noodles cut them down the middle and fit those over the edge of the gunwall. Sure makes it more comfortable on the ankles.

I do not like videos people post labeled “easy” or “cheap” or “inexpensive” camping or “simple” tent made on floats to sleep on lake and have TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars in gear and equipment, usually brand new. Cooking fancy meals with high end cooking equipment. That’s showing off and not realistic for most people.
You keep it simple, no sugar coating, and it’s realistic- for me at least. I’m always looking for new ideas, not fantasizing.

Is very comforting to see Ellie sleeping peacefully. You really need to put something on the floor of the boat for her. In summer dogs like to sleep on the cooler ground. but you need to keep it dry. May Go bless you!

Do a search on "Foamie Campers" It would be a great way to build a small, lightweight, well insulated, tiny house on a good size pontoon boat. Use what they call "poor mans fiberglass" to cover it. Basically canvas glued on, and saturated with oil base paint. I have seen teardrop campers covered with it that were 10 - 12 years old and still looked great. (they covered airplanes with it for 60+ years)

I picture you on the Atchafalaya River after hurricane season for certain and well before summer, January thru February would be great since you are used to the cooler weather up north. Thanks so much! So right after this video, I made an elevated platform on the ground so that any water in the boat runs underneath it. I also have a bilge pump that I can use to remove water 👍🏽
