I live in the United States. I grew up racing Bmx from 1979 to 2016! I know all the hero's of Bmx!! I grew up racing GT..I absolutely love your collection and story!! I'm 56 now and have Crohn's and had 5 stomach surgeries that's the only reason I had to quit racing!!❤ Bmx was my entire life!! Traveling the country racing Bmx every year in our motorhome all over the USA! My little sister raced for Factory ZERONINE and won the world's in Amsterdam..Bmx was EVERYTHING to my parents and entire family!!! God bless!! Frank Balazs Toledo ohio 🇺🇸
They were the days, couldn't wait to get out on the BMX after school as a kid, building a jump with a bit of old wood and a few old house bricks. Standing on the stunt pegs bunny hopping on the spot having a competition with ur mates who could do the most 😆😂 fab times. Who remembers the film BMX bandits ????
Ahhhh BMX My first love, lost count how many I broke or parts I broke jumping off stairs or ramps over stolen beer barrels, my dream bike was a Haro but it's another dream that wasn't fulfilled, my first ever hero in life was Andy Ruffell then along came a certain Mr Eddie Filoa. Even now at 52 years old I still watch the young riders of today on You Tube and it totally amazes me how things have evolved and the tricks they do, some of today's riders are just insane and things now are on a new level. Kieran Reilly is just off the scale on a BMX and worth checking for any of the old guard who might still have any interest in BMX. Thanks again Adam and Paul for sharing his cool collection.
Love this guy everything he says is literally what we did as kids such great times and great memories these kids today don't want to leave the house 🏡 Fab times the 80s
I was pretty much Paul back in the 80’s. Mum got me a local classified paper BMX which I then spent all my pocket money on. Z Rims, CW bars, DiaComp single finger levers, mushroom grips, white wall tyres… all that jazz. Really wanted a GT Freestyler though. Chain jumped the sprocket one day while I was giving it the berries through the council estate, locked the wheel, launched me over the bars and I woke up in the middle of the road, sans bike and skin, blood everywhere. Found the bike 3 days later up a tree, where it landed. That was my last ride on a BMX. Then came mountain bikes in 86. The rest is history. BMXs we’re more than a bike. They were the start of a life-long obsession with anything with wheels. Loved that video. Really took me back. ✊
Can totally relate to this, spent many many hours out on our bmx's as kids a whole group of us perfecting the tricks and going to bmx racing tracks miles away from home. Still got marks all up my shins from the pedals due to practicing and accidents.
I remember the spoilt rich kid who had 2 of everything getting a Haro for Christmas, he already had a DP Firebird, I was so jealous. He offered me the frame and forks for £20 and gave me 1 week to get the money or he would sell it to another lad.. Spent the whole weekend in Sainsburys carpark collecting abandonded trolleys and returning to the other end of the carpark to get 10p coins; I made £30.00 and bought the frame, I stripped all the parts of my cheap and nasty to get it on the road and every weekend I would go back to Sainsburys to do the trolleys, earn my dough and head straight to local bike shop and buy the best parts he had, quick release MX brakes Shimano pedals, Skyway, Wheels, Layback seatpost all in Black and Red, it was a beast. I remember spending 6 weeks summer holiday with all my mates on our bikes, morning till night. Those where the days
This is ace. I still own, from when i was a kid, a haro and a ELF (extra light frame). i am now about to turn 50 and still use them to this day. Rad man!
Legends, great stories Paul we can all relate to Im 40yo. Same in Australia, hours on the BMX down our street, jumps and skids. Love the stories, can hear em in the pub I bet today.
The super soft mushroom grips , the mx 2 fingers brakes, the laid back seat post and the sky way tuff wheel 2, my Haro free styler had the lot.was same as Paul’s but white. Ahhh the good old days eh . Thanks for the video Adam and Paul. Still have a set of black sky way tuff wheels that sit in my shed .
What a great guy and he brought back so many memories!! use to set jumps and and see how many kids we use be how jump over, it was never good being the last kid in the row!! we had the best rope swings where you get as many on as can. i was born 75, what a time to be born!!!!!!!!!!!!!! poor kids no days don't leave the house
a posh kid next door to me got an Andy Ruffell team burner for Christmas but he was useless on it so i used to borrow it and me and my mate who used to have an all chrome mongoose used to have massive fun , we built a ramp one day with a huge run up and persuaded our friends to lie in a row at the edge of the ramp , i managed to jump 7 people on the Andy Ruffell .
I hope to god Paul writes an Autobiography one day his knowledge and story's are absolutely amazing :) Thanks again for another top quality Video Adam & Paul !!!
Thanks for the great video and taking us back to the good ole days. Love your passion and expertise on these bikes. Well done and well appreciated. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Takes me back to my “Pure White” Skyway Ta I had when I was young. Bear trap peddles, mushroom grips with the mushroom emblem on the ends, super tuffs, etc. Ahh those were the days we all remember. Wish we could go back to those days again. My brother had the Z Rims (flexible wheels) on his BMX. 😀👍🏻
Me too. Upgraded the wheels to Z rims, then some Skyway type wheels then proper Skyways. Mushroom grips, better brakes, layback seatpost etc. Jumps, tracks over the woods. Happy days almost 40 years ago now. Still love cycling. As you say, great memories👍🏻🏴
@@sbaddison only thing I put on was some cw handle bars and thought I’d be clever putting the brake levers back on the opposite side…… thought I’d show off with a massive skid yanked the lever ( back not) BOSH straight over the handle bars 😂 frigging hurt 😂.put them straight back properly 😂
We’ve all been there. I vividly remember the day I got my EB. From Edershaws Raleigh in Swansea. My Nan to D me off for “stunting” as I wheelied out of the shop😂😂😂After watching this video I went on eBay😂 The re-release Super Tuff Burner from 2019 looks mint. Couple of restored extra burners on there too. As a padded 52 y/o, I’m probably better sticking to my Gravel or Mountain bikes.
Best era of childhood when BMX arrived , started with a Red Raleigh Burner, then Mongoose with Z rims , then chrome Haro freestyler , wish I still had mine . Only ever saw 1 Skyway TA at Scarborough Race track .
I did more racing than I did freestyle, but loved my BMXs back in the day. Had Mongoose Supergoose, California Special, Haro, Redline, etc. Wish I still had them nowadays. Could listen to this guy talk for hours and hours. Good times.... Lol
Those skyway tuff wheels were the dogs bollox.......rumour had it if you bent them you could put them in the freezer and they would pop back into shape.....never tried it so it might have been an urban myth......i had a raleigh team burner.......the blue and white one
For a bloke with such an amazing collection of motorbikes and BMX’s etc it’s nice to see how humble your are. Unlike the young kids of today. You make me think of riding around with my mates on weekends and being told, “be home before dark!” I also love your Dick Johnson Sierra in the background. Dick and Peter Brock were my heroes growing up here in Australia in the 80’s.
That guy is a star, I just had a great trip down memory lane. Cheers Paul. I had a chrome skyway TA with pro class wheels and CW flat top bars. By no means a posh kid, sold everything I owned and delivered as many news papers as I could to buy it. I grew up in Farringdon, a council estate just like Paul. I could eventually wheelie the length of the estate (Allendale rd ). Sadly I sold it to fund a Mk2 Escort, but had just as much fun in that thing.
Paul has dream bikes from my childhood Brilliant to see again cheer's..I had a Falcon pro freeway bmx I think made by acorn chrome frame white mag wheels and black pads..countless hours learning tricks and building ramps and scars to prove it 🙂..Fantastic period in my life ..bmx 🤘
Being a Scarborough lad I know exactly where Paul’s talking about, the ‘top shops’ at Eastfield 👍🏼 I had an unknown brand of BMX bought weekly from my mum’s catalogue 🤣🤣 peeled the stickers off and replaced them with Kuwahara ones from local bike shop - Len Raines. Paul will remember that shop 👍🏼 great vid guys 👌🏼
Brilliant upload. I was BMX daft years ago. Had the green DPfreestyler and the Burners too. Haro freestyler was the dream bike in the 80s finally got a Haro Sport at 35 and still have to this day. wish i never sold my DP Freestyler. It is great that people share there collections on youtube. Great Vid
I remember in the mid 80's I had my Burner, completely modified with new parts, and two mates of mine had a Rickmann freestyler and a haro freestyler, I used to drool over them!
All the memories as a kid and BMX bikes are exactly true. I am in Texas and I think it is amazing that kids of that era in totally different countries can share similar memories of their BMX Childhood. The BMX culture was and still is a strong one. I am 60 years old and just rebuilt/restored a 1998 GT and about to get a new BMX bike and start racing again (yee haw).
I had a red Raleigh Burner with gold alloy rims, a Mongoose Californian with Skyways, a DP Freestyler (same as Paul's) with blue Skyways, a PK Ripper and two modern BMXs including a Haro Lineage Sport 2017. Funny how BMX leads into car obsession too. I had loads of fun on BMXs as a youth and it gave me a lot of the balance and skills that make driving cars and mtb nowadays great fun too.
Yesteryear fun , great collection Paul has , I was a poor lad in North London in the early 80s just a 5 speed racing bike with cow horn handle bars 😢,the best bmx wheelie kid came up from Camden to see us , I was challenge to a wheelie challenge as he was thinking he would beat me 🤔little did know I could wheelie over 2 miles and also wheelie around corners he soon went home 🤣🤣🤣
Reminds me of my youth I'm 51 Eddie Fiola on the Flying Banana Bob Haro was my hero I rattle canned my Raleigh Burner yellow lol Mushroom Grips anyone happy days !
Just watched this video, I usually see Adam and Paul talking cars, what a difference talking bikes, I was into Raleigh Grifters the other half BMX, she's just had her Redline ST-20 refurbished. Just nice to hear about the old stories from days gone by.
What a decent bloke, and I was just the same with BMX's. A posh lad I knew, his dad imported a Puch Murray BMX for him in 1980 from the states, and we were jealous as fk. So by hook or crook we all managed to get a BMX. In xmas 1981 I think it was, Halfords started selling the Raleigh Burner, and every kid wanted one for xmas, because in 82 they were everywhere. From mongoose supergoose's, Skyway's, Haro freestyler's, I had the lot, great times.
That was a trip down memory lane. Just the terms like MX quick release and “layback” post and Shimano Pedals etc. always wanted a Burner tough mag or ultra. I know they weren’t the best bike at all but I lusted one badly. I had a Raleigh Grifter 😭😭 so had to borrow mates bikes.
Had a silver Ultra Burner and it’s still the best Xmas present ever and I’m now 53…!!!was a great bike regards spec and used all the bits for my Firebird ,suntour stem ,cro mo one piece crank, sugino chain set ,swapped out the araya 7x for tuff II…👍
Mongoose (the real ones bk in day) , Hutch, Thruster, Redline, Haro.. all greats bk in the 80s! Mongoose was my favorite. Well made BMX bikes! Ohhh the memories. NJ 🇺🇸
I can relate to everyone of his BMX stories ... dead on, we used to ride sun up to sun down (other than when damn school got in the way) cheers from Canada
was a bmx kid too great days loved the mongoose bikes had many had a supergoose too used to run a mag an a spoke rim lol mag front spoke back 1 brake for lightness🤣 when you done a pedal wheelie hit the front brake so the mag sat still dindnt rotate proper cool like👀😅
Brilliant, good honest interview. We were the same, walking into local cycle BMX shop smell the new rubber tyres and see the skyways and hutch but walk out with a burner 😢
I drove my mum and dad mad on my bmx just like paul said about being home at certain times and still being out jumping off curbs trying stunts etc really funny listening and remembering my youth
AMAZING! I'm on a load of old BMX groups on insta, Haro and Skyway and Diamond back and GT etc. It brightens my day to see a wicked old bike pop up on my feed! Zooming in on the trick parts and decals to geek out and reminisce and spot what's right or not. I'm as impressed by Paul's pushbikes as I am with his vintage superbikes. They are all amazing examples! I especially love his honesty about not being a riding God on any of his 2 wheelers... I'm the same. A lot of old bullshitters make out like they were stunt doubles in BMX bandits 😂😂! I climbed back down off more 1/4 pipes with jelly legs than I ever faced a drop off 🤫😎🤣
Started with a BMX, then a Racer, and finally a Mountain Bike! Be cool to see Paul’s model & RC collection. I notice the Tamiya Blackfoot RC Monster Truck in the background. Had one of them too!
Is the grifter really massive tubes? Me and my brother shared one (along with a chopper, then we got Night Burners) and wd both seem to remember the grifter being fat tubed and really heavy. My brother was convinced it could pin you down! Obviously we were quite young and probably this has warped over time but it's funny how that memory sticks!
I had a Firebird freestyler with a toughneck handle bar stem ,VDU monkey bars,a one piece crank and bear trap pedals and skyway wheels.I wish i had kept it.If i remember the Firebird was made in Wales.
Enjoyed this video. Paul is a fascinating chap. As a boy I was fortunate enough to have a Dad who bought me 3 new Raleigh 'bikes as I grew up. Started with a Boxer in Yellow then a Super Burner in Gold followed by a Maverick in Brown/Gold. Thank you.
Love these videos. Thank you for posting. BMX as a kid we’re care free days with friends. We would ride them and trade them with them. So Ive been through GT, dyno, skyway, PK ripper, Torker, hutch, redlines. To relive the good times I’ve put together the last BMX I had for the past almost 30 years a 24” redline and I let my older boy ride it around.
Hell that's a look back into history 👍 loved my sky TA back then, then was lucky enough to get SE quad angle with z rims the ones they said can bend hahaha, very spoiled lad back in the day, all thank to being an only child and great grandparents
I had a chopper among many bmx’s ,we used to play a game called dodge and attack, basically trying to make the other people put their foot down. The chopper was best due to the small front wheel

Not heard that word (RAD) for donkeys , there was a skate mag called RAD something you would buy just for the free stickers lol
I only ever saw a Skyway in the bike shop as a frame and fork. Wish I had a time machine to go back to the 80s.

Lay back seats and mushroom grips 😍 happy memories

Mongoose (the real ones bk in day) , Hutch, Thruster, Redline, Haro.. all greats bk in the 80s! Mongoose was my favorite. Well made BMX bikes! Ohhh the memories. NJ 🇺🇸

You could also and people did put Z Rims in the freezer over night to straighten them..... True story 👍
I can relate to everyone of his BMX stories ... dead on, we used to ride sun up to sun down (other than when damn school got in the way) cheers from Canada
I remember having what Paul calls "flat top bars" :o) we called them CW bars back in the day
was a bmx kid too great days loved the mongoose bikes had many had a supergoose too used to run a mag an a spoke rim lol mag front spoke back 1 brake for lightness🤣 when you done a pedal wheelie hit the front brake so the mag sat still dindnt rotate proper cool like👀😅
Loved my BMXs my dad used to rebuild my mag wheels as I was alway breaking them jumping off kerbs. Great content when someone is passionate.
Brilliant, good honest interview. We were the same, walking into local cycle BMX shop smell the new rubber tyres and see the skyways and hutch but walk out with a burner 😢
Hutch were cool!
Good stuff, it's nice to relive our childhood. Hope you find that Trickstar!
What a top pair of geezas , respect from Dan saff 😘👍
I drove my mum and dad mad on my bmx just like paul said about being home at certain times and still being out jumping off curbs trying stunts etc really funny listening and remembering my youth
Raleigh Night Burner was my first BMX.
That transparent grey film over a chrome frame (oval tubes) just looked epic.
This is just a brilliant video.
Having a mk2 focus rs a couple of raleigh burners and a grifter in my garage I can relate to this guy so much. Great video
Raleigh burner was my dream bike . With mini brakes and mushroom grips
Great memories. Paul There is a model of the Corsa SR coming out. Check out Andy at Rally Models.
What a great video, i can relate to everything Paul says about the BMX days, fantastic times, always enjoy your visits to Pauls too.👍👍
I had a Firebird freestyler with a toughneck handle bar stem ,VDU monkey bars,a one piece crank and bear trap pedals and skyway wheels.I wish i had kept it.If i remember the Firebird was made in Wales.
I made a comment. Great to see these bikes. :-)
Can totally relate to the bmx era great memories of great times as a kid. I learnt to wheelie miles I wasn't a though kid but a hero on the back wheel
Awesome, I’ve still got my TRM freestyler, it’s about 36 years old😁
Dibs!😆
Enjoyed this video. Paul is a fascinating chap. As a boy I was fortunate enough to have a Dad who bought me 3 new Raleigh 'bikes as I grew up. Started with a Boxer in Yellow then a Super Burner in Gold followed by a Maverick in Brown/Gold. Thank you.
Great to see a nice collection of old school BMX's, I got an orig Redline MXII hanging up in my garage as its what I rode all day long when I was 10 !
Paul's stories are awesome I think he could talk about toilet roll and he would still draw you in to watch and listen lol top fellas both of you 👍
Love these videos.
Paul is like a gift that keeps giving what a boy.
Brought back some memories of bikes I couldn't afford but my grifter was a beast 🤣
I brought a set of Z rims from a mate in high school. They were pretty cool, but I thought they were tuffs 🤣🤷♂️ I guess my memory isn't that good
