Must have been a poor town like this where apparently only one family had enough money for a Sega Genesis. Not mocking the poor or anything, just think the premise that this entire town would show up because this kid had a Genesis pretty ludicrous, lol, like nobody else could afford one, but then it's a commercial.
This was the life back in the day. I still got my Genesis/CD/32X all hooked up with SCART running 4:3 at 1080p. My 4 year old loves the retro games for Genesis.
My Gramma got me a Sega Genesis that came with Sonic 2 for Christmas of 92. Loved that system still play it till this day. Mine was the then brand new model 2 Sega Genesis ( new compact design)
My grandma still has a Sega Genesis from '92. And it still works! So do all of the games too. I still have mine too, but it's a Genesis 3 that is from '97. It also still works cuz it's newer.
I'm also a Matt and I got my Sega Genesis from my Gramma Christmas of 92 mine was the Sonic 2 system was the best thing ever at the time. Still have it and play it today!
Years later, this is what happened when I got a GameCube and my brother got an Xbox. All of the other kids had PS2s, so our consoles were like a whole new world to them.
Matt’s TV looks to be a ProFeel cube Sony PVM. That kid was way ahead of his time to be playing Sega Genesis on the best CRT monitor money can buy at the time.
This kid is saying "kewl" when he got a Sega Genesis for Christmas. When I got my Wii U for Christmas in 2012, I was like "OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!" He also is apparently the only one out of his friends who has one, so why is he all like "kewl" when he should be freaking out.
Wow I never saw any American video game ads like this before in my whole life. The kid was so lucky to receive a Sega Genesis (known as Sega Mega Drive in Japan, the UK, my home country Ireland, the rest of Europe, Australia and New Zealand and the rest of the world as well) for Chrimbo. I know Sega Genesis is the name for Sega Mega Drive in the USA 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦.
Finally, I knew someone out there still had this Commercial somewhere, I've been asking about it for the past year while searching the others down...same with all the 7-up spot commercials.
lol this really happened back then in my neighborhood, i used to always go over to play. until my parents bought me a sega saturn then when kids started coming over my place, unfortunately i slammed the door in their face.
I thought this was gonna happen when I got a SNES and Street Fighter 2 for Christmas and the exact same year but my 16th Birthday Party did look like that with SSF2 on SNES (Super Street Fighter 2)
These consoles back in the day held up incredibly after all these years. That should be more important to game console makers today (yes, I'm talking about the Xbox 360.)
SEGA dominated the European market. It was kind of rare to find someone with a SNES. Although both are great consoles, I'd play my Mega Drive any day. Kind of makes me think: How would gaming be today if SEGA still made games (Saturn and Dreamcast succeeded)
@FractalBolt lol, but I think the commercial said that because, genuinely speaking, it could be misleading. I'm pretty sure the kids knew that the cartridges came separately but since this is a promotion they might have thought that this Genesis comes with those 4 cartridges. Sometimes there were stores that actually sold the Genesis with an extra game or two. One thing I learn in Law school is that one should never leave anything vague; to the interpretation of another. Hence, the disclaimer.
@TaInTeDlYnX Technically the Megadrive came out in 88. but in America in 89. The Genesis certianly does have faster paced games MOST of the time, which I love, and I LOVE the Sega Genesis soundchip. :D
I had a sega genisis for Christmas Sunday morning December 25,1994 from Santa Claus but it broke in 96 & it's gone.I'm gonna get me another one from ebay in the future.
Sega Genesis is the best system ever Sega Genesis does what Nintendon't sega genesis has a lot of acarde games on it its like having a acarde machine i am old school i am into the 90s a lot here where i live thier is a game store that sells every game thay dont care how old it is they will sell it and i always get sega genesis games from them the store is called ZIGGYS i am trying to get a copy of every genesis game that came out so far i got 58 genesis games and still dont have them all
@ClassicCommercials4U Good, I just heard rumors going around and wanted to be sure. I still need the damn link cable that connects it to your genesis anyway, and those get lost all the time so they're hard to find.
This is actually not a joke, this is what it was like at my house when I got my Genesis
Must have been a poor town like this where apparently only one family had enough money for a Sega Genesis. Not mocking the poor or anything, just think the premise that this entire town would show up because this kid had a Genesis pretty ludicrous, lol, like nobody else could afford one, but then it's a commercial.
@@yellowblanka6058It's obvious; they all mistakenly bought Super Nintendo's.
Genesis owners in the early 90's probably were the coolest kids in town. The genesis had attitude something all modern game consoles lack
I still got my Genesis I remember my father coming home with it the day it came out. I stayed up all night playing it.
I still got mine too and still play it
I had a bunch of fake friends in Elementary school who only wanted to play my Sega Genesis too.
Surenity I had that same problem myself.
Surenity sorry about that
Damn, that sucks.
Rip
Me: "I heard Matt got an Atari Jaguar!"
(Cricket sounds)
Sega Genesis / Mega Drive is absolutely the love of my life gaming console!
I heard Matt got a Sega Dreamcast :3
Dang I remember I got one for being on the honor roll. It came with Sonic 2. Oh the memories.
In 1992 my Mom bought me Streets of Rage 2 for making the honor roll too.
I hear Matt got an Ouya. Let's give him a wedgie
No I didn't

The model 2 Genesis came out in 1993, but still a great console and a great present!

Man I'm lucky to grow up in the time I did. Still have my Genesis and it works perfectly.
how old were you when you got it?
This commercial is great. Brings back memories.
My grandma still has a Sega Genesis from '92. And it still works! So do all of the games too. I still have mine too, but it's a Genesis 3 that is from '97. It also still works cuz it's newer.

0:24 I guess every kid in the neighborhood heard Matt got a Sega Genesis.
0:22 - 0:24
SOMEONE MAKE A GIF OUT OF THAT REACTION!
LOL!!! FILL IN THE BLANK *GASPS* All these kids want to play with my sons....
That same thing happened to me when I got my Saturn - and some years later when I got my Dreamcast XD
That's me at 0:17 😁
Lllollllllo
Lol
"I heard Matt got a Saturn. I even brought the pot." - Girl
amazing....all those kids knew whats up sans texting....
Them flying carrier pigeons weren't no joke.
I got one like a moth ago and and my friends thought it was awesome.
*sigh* I remember I got a Genesis as a Christmas gift back in '94. Those were the days
Classic commercial. This really DID happen, especially by 1993.
The Sega Mega Drive is the games console that turned me into the gamer I am today. =D
I still own a sega genesis and still enjoy it!😊
I heard Matt got a TurboGrafx 16.
let's make fun of his inferior gaming system!
i still have nightmares. :-(...
They were probably just jealous they didn't get to play Air Zonk on their Sega.
TurboGrafx sold 1/5 of what the Genesis sold. Of course people will insult you for it
Years later, this is what happened when I got a GameCube and my brother got an Xbox. All of the other kids had PS2s, so our consoles were like a whole new world to them.
Matt’s TV looks to be a ProFeel cube Sony PVM. That kid was way ahead of his time to be playing Sega Genesis on the best CRT monitor money can buy at the time.
I wonder what happened to the friendlier days of gaming.
Fact: Sega Genesis > Xbox One & PS4
***** Well true I guess. I hate this era of gaming. All about online and stuff. Screw that. Paying for the game was enough, also the console.
amen
+GamingDude888 no you do
that's 60 for parts
60 for the house
and 12 for the internet
about 130 dollars
yup
extra

If only we could go back in time and make a fortune on those...
I WISH GIRLS CAME TO MY HOUSE TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES :/
hopefully they won't be asking if I have any lame and stupid games like a hannah montana one
SpikeLanta or bratz for wii
Yo that one girl in the commercial came over to play Sonic 2. She's legit.
When I saw Sega Genesis; I understood the sentence: Sega does what nintendon't
Wow I never saw any American video game ads like this before in my whole life. The kid was so lucky to receive a Sega Genesis (known as Sega Mega Drive in Japan, the UK, my home country Ireland, the rest of Europe, Australia and New Zealand and the rest of the world as well) for Chrimbo.

He was first like: "NINTENDO SIXTY FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUR?" and then "Oh, Sega... FUCK IT!"
Nintendo my ass
Sega blows
Finally, I knew someone out there still had this Commercial somewhere, I've been asking about it for the past year while searching the others down...same with all the 7-up spot commercials.
Lol i remember this...it was big things back then to have stuff like that.
I feel your pain. I got a genesis 2 months ago and offered anyone to play it. Everyone ignored it.
This commercial is so fucking true. Owning a 16 bit system was basically like being a god.
The father after his wife’s heart attack: I guess a video game system THIS good could only come from…”
Crowded kids outside: “SEGA, SEGA, SEGA!”
so if I get a Genesis I'll be the talk of the town.... hell yes!!
I heard Matt got mkx all dlc
lol this really happened back then in my neighborhood, i used to always go over to play. until my parents bought me a sega saturn then when kids started coming over my place, unfortunately i slammed the door in their face.
in 1992: Sonic the Heagehog 2
in 1993: Ren & Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention
that was me one wonderful christmas =]
best console ever
Take me back to this days .. where’s the time machine at ???
Those were the days..lol
Can't we go back to that fun era
2 people never heard that Matt got a Sega Genesis
The Goat King escaped inside the Genesis.
Bob has a Amiga CD32!
"No one runs"
If that kid was me i woulda let the first guy go in and tell everyone else "Go get your own genesis"
That's like my family and friends with my Classic Game collection. They should have a dreamcast commercial like this...
lol...this is EXACTLY what happened when my brother and i got one
"Game cartridges sold separately... in case you're stupid enough to think the entire catalog comes pre-loaded on the hardware"
Merry Christmas from sega
POV: matt has a sega genesis
I thought this was gonna happen when I got a SNES and Street Fighter 2 for Christmas and the exact same year but my 16th Birthday Party did look like that with SSF2 on SNES (Super Street Fighter 2)
Altered Beast, Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Super Monaco GP were my fondest memories of the Genesis
Sigggghhhhh...... there'll never be commercials like this ever again. Why is that???
You have been raised well.
These consoles back in the day held up incredibly after all these years. That should be more important to game console makers today (yes, I'm talking about the Xbox 360.)
Sega genesis will help you get friends.
SEGA dominated the European market. It was kind of rare to find someone with a SNES. Although both are great consoles, I'd play my Mega Drive any day.
Kind of makes me think: How would gaming be today if SEGA still made games (Saturn and Dreamcast succeeded)
I recently got 3 Sega Genesises for one dollar.
The kids in this commercial are 30 now.
Insinuating the Sega Genesis is way too expensive for the kids to buy one themselves.
@unixworm Let's make you feel even older: I was BORN on Christmas 1992 and had a Sega Genesis.
January 28, 2012 10:45 pm
Ha, I remember this commercial!
so the moral of the story is, if you get a genesis you will get friends. Nice friends who use the nerdy kid next door.
Apparently the model that did that never hit the market
I have both and I play my Genesis more..... the Genesis games are more addicting, thats why
in europe we had the mega drive, same thing but looked a hell of alot better
I got one for Christmas "94 (:

100 people who play Sega Genesis
sega is awesome
Oops! I meant consoles, haha XD Thank you for pointing that out
@dearestjen I've had a SNES since launch. And it turned green, but still works fine. My Genesis however, stopped working years ago.
Sega still makes games. What they don't make anymore is consoles.

well played good sir
Yeah, that was so 2007 with the wii.
I wonder if those kids are more into the Wii now or more into the Playstation?
I just found almost all my genesis games, but I can't find my freaking genesis :(
I heard mat got a sega genesis :)
that is the funniest post on youtube right now
Everyone must of been broke in that neighborhood.
those kids have no street smarts they should have all just combined the dollar fifty they have in their pockets to buy their own for all of them
wow, only one person owned a genesis in the ENTIRE town? :/
Challenge Accepted
@NoriesW I got into PC gaming when half-Life came out. But my childhood is with Sega and Nintendo.
@HapasFine took me 16 years to do the entire game skipping the flutes
I heard matt got a sega genesis
