I have the waterfall deck and a real working coin door on my tempest and it’s such an improvement. I want that marquee but I don’t know if I can justify the cost. As for volcano buttons on the Tempest, you need to use the 2nd player button so using a volcano button a lot isn’t comfy. I bought the Grs light up trackball and it’s not worth buying to me. No difference from stock to me. I kinda like the off white color. Makes it look aged. But what’s with the lack of angle on the monitor on the Centipede? I was so glad to see some angle on the Tempest
thats interesting. because the original missile command, only had volcano buttons for firing. it worked out well for that. the centipede angle is more vertical. but it makes no difference. still was able to max out the score on it. later -1
I hope the next time they re-release the Legacy Atari cab, they put it in a Missile Command cab. That game is super important to me. If next year rolls around and they put the Legacy in a Lunar Lander or Crazy Castle or something, I'll probably just pick up Centipede for the great artwork.
I bought the Tempest last year, but haven't opened the box yet. Building out my arcade lounge. I assumed the screen would be vertical, as the lead game, tempest was originally vertical, ie portrait display. 1up needs to do rotatable screens like the atgames cab
I love you content Danny. Every time I see one I watch. You are almost at 500 subs congratulations. At 500 you get community posts and that helps your channel greatly if you use them. Thanks for the video. I like the way you just show us the cabs and compare them. For example the spinner comparison and sound. This is useful to me when considering a buy of a cab. I love these 80s Arcade1Up cabs with ubique shapes and classic 80s games. I will never sell my Tempest cab.
Thanks for the feedback, Papa Brad. It really means a lot. I agree on the uniquely shaped cabinets. I'm going to need a bigger room soon, because the decisions are getting harder.
I like your videos. I know that waterfall deck is very expensive .BUT! Treat yourself. You will love it. They moved the player 2 button to be more in line with the 2 buttons below it. Meaning its easier to play missle command. Plus ,its nice to feel the control panel under your hands and not a plastic "deck protector". More of an authentic experience.
Interesting comparison. I'm sticking with my Tempest. Those splotches I am guessing is from maybe the natural oils on your hands. Seems odd that the spotches would be on both the Dell and the default Joust monitor.
I'm starting to think it might be interference from the board that's mounted to the back of the monitor housing. That's right about where the spots show up. Going to unscrew it and move it away from the monitor as a test.
@@FeralInferno Proved that theory wrong a moment ago by unscrewing the board and moving it away from the monitor. No change. I do notice that the dots are only visible when I'm standing straight, so the 4" risers might make them less visible. I have a new monitor on the way to test as well.
Keep them both They look great next to each other ! I have the Midway defender 40th if I had the money and room I would put the Joust next to it , would look sweet!
Part of my arcade at home is the nostalgia and look of the cabs.. that Tempest cab looks so good.. would be a shame if you got rid of it, but if room is needed, it's understandable. I guess the final test, does just looking at the cabinet in your collection make you happy? If so, I'd keep it if possible. The Centipede screen looks nice from the far right, it's original weakness. I put mine on the far right of the room, next to the wall, so you're only viewing it from the left or straight on. I still may swap the monitor though.
Thanks for the side by side comparisons. No! Do NOT sell that Tempest cabinet! LOL By the way, my waterfall deck arrived last week, and it really looks amazing. I haven't had a chance to install it, because I need to get a sighted person to move the encoder, and wiring over from the original deck to the waterfall one. Don't know if there's desoldering to be done, or not on the original deck. I ordered the one with the volcano buttons, and can't wait to see it in action. Yeah, you need to get that deck whilst it's still available. :)
I'm curious: How sensitive is the trackball on these machines and is the sensitivity on par with the original arcade machines? The reason I ask is that I've never played a real Centipede machine. There weren't any arcades near my home and the times I went to one with friends, I just never saw one. I did however try one of these Arcade1up machines a year or two ago in a local Walmart and the trackball felt sluggish. You know how if you set your mouse pointer speed too low, the mouse reaches the edge of the mouse mat before the pointer reaches the edge of the screen and it just feels sluggish? That's what the trackball felt like. I expected that I'd be able to move from one side of the screen to the other without ever taking my hand off the ball. Instead I had to keep moving my hand back, like I was petting a dog, to get from side to the other. For reference, it had the bug where you didn't hear the sound of the shot until it hit something. I don't know if current machines still do that. The only trackball arcade machine I've ever tried was Crystal Castles, and I basically had to spin the ball like I was revving up a top, to get the bear to move. Not what I'd call precise control...
I have the Tempest cab and I like it but I think artwork on the Centipede cab is one of the best Arcade1up offers. The buttons on the Tempest cab aren’t right for missile command although I have made due and too far apart for the Asteroids games. That really bugs me. Why would they make a legacy cab with the buttons all screwed up?I’m probably going to add a button if I can or move the two player button to fix it. Other than that yeah it looks plays and sounds great. How is missile command on a vertical screen? Seems like that wouldn’t work too good.
Arcade Game Factory im assuming. It looks awesome fitting with the lines of the cabinet. Makes me want to purchase this cab now. Thanks for the videos.
Love the producer cameo at 8:05
That’s my girl. She’s always close by, keeping an eye on things.

Yeah, Tempest and Centipede would have both been so much nicer, if they had vertical screens.
Have the Tempest. Been hunting for a Centipede and bought one. Waiting on it to ship. Can’t wait to have it part of my A1U collection.

Those 2 cabs look gorgeous together! Just ordered both! Lol, I'll update you when the divorce proceedings begin!
Both look great and have very different personalities.

I did some rearranging after the last room tour video and they are now side-by-side in the room. I agree they look incredible next to each other. =)

Keep the Tempest! If only the tempest can had online leaderboards……..that’s the main reason I got the centipede as well .
You could easily swap, or maybe just by the PCB and try that.

No soldering. But there’s some glue ran across the wiring you might have to either heat or cut with a razor
@@MichaelEarl Ah, ok. Seen that before on other cabinets.
Keep them both 😁
If it's not too difficult to swap out or add the volcano buttons for Missile Command, that might make the difference for me to get the Legacy.

Any idea why they have the same lineup of games except for the tempest cabinet missing Lunar landing and super breakout?
Which marquee is on the Tempest? I dont think I could keep Tempest without that gorgeous lit marquee...

@@LukeDodge916 Yep, that's the one! I did a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/8KozBDvVvxY/видео.html
I need to get a track ball for my Centipede
Do you know how to find a better 1
Thanks
I never have been able to play it yet cuz of the track ball
Good video. How did you swap out the stock monitor in Centipede for a Dell? Is there an adapter for that?
No adapter necessary. I did a video on the swap here: ruclips.net/video/G3DScp7id8Y/видео.html
Does the tempest cabinet have a 5:4 monitor like centipede?
The Tempest is a 4:3 BOE monitor.
When you say "risers" you mean?
I use some 4” furniture risers I get from Amazon. I have a video that talks about them and includes a link.
@@DannyWelch I figured as much. I already looked for this video but couldn't figure out which one it was.
