In this video we review the Atari Legacy Edition Cabinet from Arcade1Up. This beautiful cabinet is designed after the original Atari Tempest cabinet and maybe be one of the nicest looking cabinets Arcade1Up has made to date. There are some curious design choices with a horizontal 4;3 screen for a vertical themed game but will the horizontal screen be essential to enjoying the other 11 games on the cabinet? Find out if this cabinet is worth your hard earned arcade dollar.

Welcome to my channel. I have been playing and collecting games since 1987 and I use this channel to share my passion and memories of gaming. I review games that I believe are under appreciated or wrongfully dismissed on Game Genie Reviews. Video Game Nostalgia is a fun series where I take a look at a topic from my gaming past and share games that come to mind from it. I also do Top 10 lists, of course I do...what else is on youtube right? Well I like to think I put my own spin on them because they are based on my life in gaming. Hope you enjoy the channel and always looking forward to hearing from you.

This is one of my favorite arcade 1up cabinets that I own I grew up with all these in the arcades back in the 80s and to have an arcade that looks just like the original is amazing it's like a dream come true
It is before my time but where i have been getting into arcade history and trying to really focus on 80's arcade classics this was a can't miss
Thanks for watching everyone! Please let me know what you think of the Atari Legacy Edition Cabinet from Arcade1Up
My wife surprised me with the Namco Legacy Edition for Father's Day and love it so much I HAD to order this one to sit next to it. This one looks incredible and together with the Namco, I will have so many classic games to enjoy! Great review and thanks!
I just picked mine up for $250….I knew these would be on sale!
I collect original machines, but it’s always cool to see what arcade1up is doing. This Tempest cab does indeed look nice. I thought they did good with Star Wars too. Both are iconic cabs for sure. 😎
I wish i could collect original machines. I live on an island and it just isn't possible without dropping like a g on shipping each time
Thank You For This Review. I Purchased This Cabinet Because Of This Video. I Love These Game And The Beautiful Design Of The Cabinet. Thank You Again
AHAHAHA! The second stage rush for Akka Arrh 11:28 was hilarious. Great review, I'm looking forward to getting this as soon as I can find it
I just love the look of the Cab, hope I get my order soon!
Thanks for the great review. I keep eyeballing this cabinet so much. Im a big missile command fan so that's a bummer but still this cabinet looks so good!
Great review, Genie. I love my Tempest 12-1. I could nitpick, but all in all, it's up there in my opinion with the very best A1Up cabs, so far.
Is the track ball slow on that cab for Centipede? My track ball sucks, its too slow
Great review Michael! Thanks!
Great review Michael and I get mine on Friday! I'm excited to receive it. One of the most beautiful cabinets in my opinion
Thank you! It absolutely is a stunning Cabinet, probably the best looking one they have made to date
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie this and Star Wars are best looking for sure...I give Burgertime 3rd place
Great review Michael B! This cab looks awesome!
Mine was delivered today! Looking forward to a fun build and some game night!
So funny I have Burgertime in my "prime spot" too and debated long about switching it out with Tempest. Just couldn't do it though right now LOL. Thanks for the great review! Love that you have an "Atari Row" in the geniecade.....looks awesome
Just sold my Burger Time last weekend for $650. Replaced it with an iiRcade. Ppl are wanting the BT cab now, since its not available.
So I got my tempest. Just a quick tip. So in my job I work with different types of machine lubricants. One of them is called w/ptfe by CRC. It makes things really slick. So I put a little on a rag, and wiped the spinner ball. A nice improvement on how well the balls spins now.
Excellent review as usual. You and PDubs selected some killer music to play during the first part of your reviews for this cabinet. I am really leaning towards getting this one. That would bring me up to 4 total. I think my wife would close the door on any future purchases so I better make the last one count and this one is beautiful. I have TMNT, Marvel vs Capcom, and Star Wars pinball.
This is a great one to get as their are just so many great classic arcade games on this one unit. Pretty much everything Atari really did well outside of Star Wars is here
Still one my fav Cab I use as my mod. I have top 10 games in my fav area which I switch up often. If Michael B just get over with his anti multcade issue, it would of solved his cab cluttering issue.. You will never get everything you want till you mod it.
I just got into these cabinets recently, got myself the Marvel Super Heroes, Midway Legacy, Capcom Legacy and Pac-man h2h so far and was looking at this one next. excellent review sir and I think I will go ahead and grab this one as well (provided I can find one in stock in Canada lol)
Thanks for the review - gotta love those classic arcade games!
I put Happ buttons and Glens trackball in mine. Absolutely love this cab.
Off topic, but if 1up made a Splatter House cab would you buy?
You betcha!
I’m gonna get the Midway Legacy cab, Namco, Atari, X-men, and street fighter. I think that would really round out a collection of nice games, and I could use my original arcade to make it just a mame machine or something crazy like that.
I've watched your legacy cabinet reviews about 5 times each... Torturing myself until I get them all!!! Merry Christmas!
Wonder if it would be possible to put a glass/plastic sides on with an air space between the glass and actual cabinet and then be able to slide in artwork for the game you want represented.
I have had some people say they have done similar mods
I actually sold my old 12 in 1 to get this one. Happy I did. Surprised that Major Havoc uses the trackball here rather than the spinner on the old machine. Works better this way.
The trackball works awesomely for Major Havoc. If you cant use the Roller Controller this is the way to do it
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie does the spinner work for M Havoc (like on the Asteroids cab)
@@SoulforSale No, it doesn't. Just the track ball.
Congrats man it’s gorgeous
I Really Want A Robotron Cabinet
Do you know when Tron will be coming out?
You have the best reviews thank you! How do the speakers sound though?
i was able to fix my stock spinner by disassembling it and cleaning the bearings with WD40. I can spin the spinner, go get a drink, come back, and the spinner is still turning. The stock spinner is actually really good if you unfoul the bearings.
Let's hope this arrives in the UK eventually. This Legacy Arcades represent excellent value for money.... especially if short on space.
Very much doubt it fella, been waiting for ages for any of the newer cabs to come across to these shores but alas nothing!
At least we got the latest partycades!🤣
So many Legendary games!!! This is a must have!
I do want to like this cab, but just too small. I just played an og tempest this weekend (so fun).
They could have moved the 1/2 player buttons over a little bit so that the Missle Command button layout would have been similar to the Centipede cab layout.
Thanks for the review. Game Stop still hasn't shipped mine. I ordered it in January. LOL
Where did you buy it? I'm also in Canada, and hoping I can get one from the same source you did!
Hi Mike, wanted your opinion on this.. I have the 1st gen asteroids and centipede, thinking about replacing the asteroids with this legacy cab. However I am afraid I may miss the asteroid control panel button layout. Do you like the button layout to play asteroids on the tempest legacy? Just not sure what I should do. Fyi..My 4 favorite games in the asteroid and centipede cabs are asteroids, tempest, centipede and missile command. Thanks bud!
After having it and playing it for 10 months now, any issues? Stock Controls ok?
Zero issues with the hardware. Control panel design I have gotten a little irritated with. I have found it increasingly more uncomfortable to use the spinner with buttons directly underneath it that i am resting my arm on
Are the buttons on the left too far apart for Asteroids ? It looks like you need to use your second and fourth fingers and not second and third . They are closer in the arcade. Thoughts ?
i have almost all of these games already between 2 arcade 1 up party cades and my atgames legends, or actually have them all already, but got this cab because of the art and form, much like im going to do with the tron. i missed out on star wars, but im pretty sure they will rerelease it as an xl or proline, which i am already signed up to be notified as soon as 1up offers it.
Crystal Castles was my favourite back in the Chucky Cheese (Calgary, AB) days in 1982/83.
Mikey B, at some point your wife's gonna say, No mo! LOL
This is it. I have to sell something if i want to add anything else
Michael B,
GREAT REVIEW! It's actually cool that you can play Major Havoc on this new Atari Legacy cabinet with the trackball to move. I have the original Atari 12 in 1 and you can only use the spinner or buttons to move, I would've liked to have the option to use the trackball.
I can't quite make the case to get the new Atari Legacy since I have the Atari 12 in 1, but if I had the space, it would've been a day one buy as I know Glen will figure out how to implement his spinner in it.
btw, it looks like your monitor may have some stuck pixels. I had the same issue with my Atari 12 in 1 when I got it. If this is the case, Arcade1up will send you out a replacement monitor at no cost to you.
Thanks again man, for all your videos!
vgv
I would have preferred lunar lander to Akka Arrh
Great review....all high scores save?
Yes
Just got mine. It was the final thing I needed to complete my house. It’s well worth the money. This is for sure one of their best cabinets produced so far.
Tempest being vertical did not bother me in the slightest and they included a legit spinner that fully spins.
Anyways great video, this cabinet looks amazing
Cross your arms/hands when playing missile command - old trick people do on some games when they like
to control and fire with different hands.
That rotating screen is demon technology
Do you think they will release Atari 720?
My God, I hope I don't regret ordering the Centipede Legacy. Maybe I should have gone with this one for my Atari fix.........The black backgrounds REALLY pop on this one.
How long did it take to put this together?
Does your display have a couple stuck pixels or is that the camera?
Great review ty
Hi, was wondering if you had any difficulty putting it together (you didn't mention the build process, etc. like other reviewers have). Also, now that you've had it for a while, has anything broken on it? So far, all the issues I've read on-line with Arcade 1up in general has prevented me from buying. Thanks.
Great review Michael! Still on the fence on this one. I have on Orr order at GameStop still, but saw it available at Walmart. But it really is as you say more for looks in the arcade than something I’d play a ton…. Think I’m going to pass and leave a prime space for KI
This is truly a beautiful cab, tempest and missile command are some of my favorite games and I don’t remember missile command being that hard lol 😀
Just put mine together today! I'm loving it! I noticed that the Namco Legacy cabinet had the ability to turn off smoothing on all games. Does this one do that as well? I don't see it in settings, maybe its already off by default? Thanks!
There’s no smoothing anywhere!
Do all of these cabs save high scores permanently ?
i all so have the sign you have too. only dif is. it says welcome open
I cannot get over the fact that they put the monitor in the incorrect orientation for Tempest given that it is the titular game represented on the cabinet.
Your review and the fact that a local store has it makes me wanna buy it, I love the look but not so much the games and since between my iircade,my MVS and 10 arcade 1 ups ,marvel pinball and at games pinball I literally have room for 2 more arcades & if I add this I’m down to 1 space left so wtf can I do??? I know there are going to be killer cabs coming out and I plan on getting the big blue since The one cab I don’t own is street fighter. Your making the decision hard mike b lol. Anyone looking for this cab Walmart has em in stock and seems to have plenty for quick shipment.
It's on sale at the Brick for $399cdn.
I came here to make my choice. The horizontal screen is a deal breaker for me.
This cabinet would have been perfect with Lunar Lander and Breakout. But an Atari multicade without either is a very sad pass. Great overview
They are releasing a new cab this month with Centipede graphics that includes Super Breakout and Lunar Lander. With two cabs that both have a trackball, I am very disappointed that neither has Marble Madness despite it being a major Atari game classic. I grew up when video arcades were king and frankly I never heard of some titles this one has like Major Havoc, Akka Arrh, Liberator and Space Duel. Having lesser known/popular titles takes a lot from what could have been a great list of games when better titles exist. This new cab does have wifi capability(for high score uploading). It would be nice if they offered the ability to add other games compatible with the control set even for an extra cost now that it will have web connectivity.
Thanks for sharing Michael. I was close to submitting an order to the brick for this cabinet, but I can't come to terms with lack of screen shaders and horizontal monitor, for most of the games that are vertical.
The vertical screen especially for Tempest kills me where it is the marquee game but it still looks fine
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie Darn it Michael! Thanks to watching your video 5 times I bit the bullet and picking up the cab tomorrow lol. I do have to say you by far, hands down have the most comprehensive and in depth review on you tube. Others should take notice! Question though, for someone who's never played Asteroids (I know I know) would playing with the buttons on the right side be an issue, you think?
Wow what a great 1Up. I didn't know it was so packed with games. Did you upgrade the speakers?
$199 at Walmart right now without riser or lighted marquee
If someone goes into the geniecade do they get 3 wishes?
Hope they fix the audio glitch in Asteroids. The bullet sound effect triggers twice for each player and UFO shot. /fingers_crossed
I opened a ticket with them snd they said they’re aware and working on a solution. Mind you the same happened with the pac-man 40th and no update were ever released (to correct the blur filter option)
It's not nostalgia without: Veritcal mount monitor, tilted marquee, cone buttons, real coin door. I mod all that and the cab looks so much better.
Share ideas, links, photos of your finished cab? I'm planning to do all of those exact same mods to this cab! 19" vertical from arcademodup?
I would like to know from owners of this cabinet, what their favorite couple of games are. I find it hard to decide myself. Some games, like Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe and Missile Command reminds me of my pre-teen days where Asteroids and Missile Command were at movie theaters I used to go to, and Asteroids Deluxe was at the local drive-in concession stand. That being aside, I find myself playing Milipede, Tempest, and Space Duel more.
This is on sale at Nordstrom of all places for $270. I’ve been holding out for the Centipede, but that’ll likely be $600.
Late to the party. Noticed this was cab is now available at walmart(USA). Not sure about Canada, but ordered mine :)
am thinking that would be my next 1 for my xmass in july gift and would be arcade1up number 4 for me
I'm having a hard time choosing between this, Big Buck, and Outrun.
I really liked Outrun while i had it. Depends on what you are looking for
Big buck is awesome. I play it daily. The screen is way too small and it’s way too short. I put a 20 inch monitor and added a 4 inch riser to it. With those modifications it’s excellent. If you’re not willing to make those changes I wouldn’t buy it.
I've got the Legends Ultimate and I'm getting space constricted for others. So I'm looking more towards cabinets that offer something I can't do on others. But I'm just loving the Tempest look. So idk.
@@silkk2117 Iircade
@@jollygreen9377 Trust me I've added and removed the Retromania/Mutant League Football cab to my cart probably 20 times this past week. Lol
man I wish someone could figure out how to get the grs spinner to work on this little bit better but still lame spinner on tempest.
I want this so bad
I’m looking forward to the new Ms Pac-Man class of 81 because of wifi so I won’t need to post high scores on FB anymore. And I love a challenge. Tempest brings out the challenge and that big kid in me. This cab is awesome. I love the Atari legacy.
That is a cool feature, It hasn't been confirmed what the wifi is for but Leaderboards isn't a terrible idea. I have some practice to do to match your scores
I'm hoping that the wifi is actually for leaderboards, and not just updates too. It adds to the replay value of the games.

Definitely a good cab. I was totally on the fence with getting this one, but I decided to pass because I didn't see me playing the games that much.
I want a Mad Planets cabinet.
This cab is on sale right now for 300! Qvc
Nice!
"Ehr-cade!" xD
The firing effects for Asteroids don't look the same as in the arcade version. :(
Loved it but please make intro less than 75 seconds long!
That thing is gorgeous, but I'm not buying it with a horizontal monitor. If I bought it I'd end up having to install a bigger vertical monitor.
I wanted this one more than Star Wars too. Hopefully they'll either do a limited run of vertical monitors, or I'll have to find one cheap enough that I don't mind modding it.
With limited space, I am shocked you are keeping both the 12-in-1 atari AND the tempest 12-in-1 since the game lineup is so very similar.
Maybe they dropped Lunar Lander due to the upcoming dedicated Lunar Lander cabinet.
Can you imagine?
No chance of that happening in a million years. haha

Lunar Lander will be in the new Centipede cabinet coming this month along with Super Breakout.
Kinda killing me no scanline option for crystal castles.
I didn't even notice because i never play with scanlines on....I am just happy it doesn't have a forced screen filter
@@MichaelBtheGameGenie honestly, there should have been a scanline option for all non vector games on this cab. I mean why have the scanline option on the other two legacy cabs but not this atari version? I tell ya, the decisions A1up makes on some of their cabinets boggles my mind.
IT'S NOT ATERRY, IT'S ATAREY!!!
Shouldn't you live in a bottle if you're a genie?
nobody is mentioning that left unattended the cab launches directly into that awful game. (akka arrah?)
Haha well it is the first game. I don't dig it either
I love akka arrh. it's an underrated prototype game that is cool once you learn how to play it.

"Atairy" lol
This cabinet is now $399.95 at www.thebrick.com on a last chance deal as of today!
