What would be totaly amazing is if A1Up gave the option of putting multiple Ridge Racer cabs physically linked together for multiple players racing against eachother. And yes, the audio needs an upgrade.

Just snagged this for $399 earlier at Best Buy, labor day sale ;) Cant wait to set it up and add it to my arcade1up arcade (I call it my 'coffeecade!' ha) Thx for the great review :) It's a bargain if ppl can get it on sale like I did today, paid full price for my Tron cab, so I was due a discount ;)

Totally agree with you on the gas and brake pedals. They feel super cheap and I wish they would have used something much heavier duty to keep it from dragging around.

Looks pretty good. This will look great in your game room and gives a racer option to play. Glad they nailed the wheel. Hoping for a Cruis' n USA/ World & Exotica or Daytona in the future. Really want Hydro Thunder though!

I doubt you'll see Crusin' USA as Nintendo own the name. Hence why the recent Crusin' Blast was exclusive to the Switch. More likely to get it's sister franchise: San Francisco Rush, as Warner Bros owns that.
Awesome review Jason! I also had this on PS1 as one of my launch titles. I never had it at any of my arcades so all my memories were from the PS1. It almost makes me wish it had the third person mode because that's how I played it.(I understand why it doesn't though) I do hope they continue to improve the pedals. Longevity is a concern on those but the cab itself looks great. Nice job as always

I’d love to see a third party produce a more premium set of pedals for these A1UP racing cabs. I think that would really complete this Ridge Racer cabinet.

I have Outrun and agree...1Up nailed the steering wheel. Sound on the Sega cab is good, but I have the same crappy pedals. Really unfortunate they jacked up the price on Ridge Racer, no reason it shouldn't be $499 like Outrun.
After playing Ridge Racer, I’m really tempted now on picking up a stand up Outrun cab. I think overall A1UP did a great job on these driving cabs. Hopefully a third party comes out with a more premium set of pedals.

Another great review my friend! On the one hand, it's awesome to have the better, reactive, steering wheel on this cab. Very cool that it has wifi (although to be honest, every game needs this going forward). What's not cool is the speakers (which are actually quite good on the other A1up racing cab OUTRUN). Worse is the $700 MSRP - too much green for this cab IMO; $550 a lot closer to a fair price. Would loved to have seen at least 12 racing games on this cab - there are so many good games out there, so few options. Keep these awesome reviews coming Jason!

Best Buy has it on sale right now (4-23-22) for $549. Like you, I felt $700 was way too much for this cab. As soon as I saw it on sale, I borrowed the neighbor's truck and went and snagged it. These big boxes don't fit very well in the trunk of a Camaro...grin...
Oh yeah, that price is way more in line for this cab... odd that's it's already going on sale though... But, glad it is!

I saw someone mod the pedals with car pedal covers from Amazon , would you consider doing that to beef up the pedal ? Or do you think the original form factor is good enough
If the covers fit the pedals properly I think that would be a pretty good mod. I’m hoping a third party comes out with a higher quality set of pedals altogether. It would be a massive upgrade to this great cab.
Wow!!! I'm impressed with the Ridge Racer cabinet and the lineup of racing games that's included on there! For $599 on sale is definitely a good price point for anyone to have in their collection, including me, lol. I never heard of the F1 games though it reminds me of Pole Position only in 3D yet I'm still impressed with them nonetheless in how they both play.
Definitely something to pick up on my radar to have in my collection of games. Thanks for sharing this wonderful gem to all of us Jason as it stands out well in owning this one!!!

Cool cabinet. Had a ps1 with a madcatz wheel when it came out. Good times. Rage Racer would be a great addition. Don't know if it came out in the arcades.
There was a red button on the original Rave Racer cabinet which I can't see anywhere on the 1up machine. Was that one omitted? I remember it to be very important, I think it said "shut up bitch!" or something.
Well... I get back to gaming, since there's a lot of racin' ahead!
Best Buy has this on sale for $299. Also Simpsons and T2 for same price. Bought RR and Simpsons and picking them up today. Great reviews man. Totally agree about the speakers. My Star wars pinball has the same issue. But it still awesome!

@@3rdFloorArcade G Shocks are the best! Had a couple in the military years ago. You could literally slam the on the edge of the table with no ill affect. I did this as a demonstration often.

Thanks for the review Jason! I have ridge racer and outrun side by side like you mentioned, using a patio chair with the cushion from the outrun seat nonsense lol it works. Hopefully next a Daytona or midway legacy racing cab with spy hunter and cruisin' games would be sick. Also I take back what I said, doubtful I will ever make the leaderboards, so many good racers!

The pedals were a concern for me. I’m afraid they may break easily.

A 3.5mm audio jack? Which means you could hook it up to external speakers or the aux port of a soundbar?

The price is definitely pretty high. If you can find it on sale I think it’s worth it. Best Buy seems to keep having their pop up sales on these newer cabs lately.
These arcade1up prices are ridiculous. The company is relying on an older demographic and nostalgia to sell their products. You can play most of these games on any laptop computer for free using roms.
The sound issue is with the audio input on the pcb. Use the headphone audio input instead, sounds way better

@@3rdFloorArcade I bet, and is the best one when it comes to getting some racing action for that matter as well! I do hope they'll come out with more shooting games, even if some of the newer ones I really want to see get released for these, that never got console ports (such as Terminator: Salvation for starters) may not quite be doable anytime soon, if ever from what I've heard though. But we can hope, if not at least dream for now however!
I wonder can you powerslide the wrong way around a corner in the arcade versions like you could in the PSX port? To embelish: Say there's a tight right coming up. Swerve right, brake, hard left accelerate to initiate slide, and do a magic mirrored 360 through the turn. Does god sort you out in the arcade like he did on the playstation??

When will A1UP realize audio is a huge part of the arcade experience? Aside from that it looks like a step towards the Sega racing cab I want. Not stand up tho. I'll never understand a preference for stand-up racing. Their benches suck but great opportunity for improvising a nice seat.
Yeah hopefully the audio is fixed on the next wave of cabs. I’m sure A1UP heard everyone complaining about it. I’d love to see A1UP do a premium bench for the next racing cabinet. 👍
@@3rdFloorArcade They're all over the place with quality. Got Class of 81 recently. Sounds good. Marquee was done by a 3 year old. If they ever decide quality matters we all win. Big if tho. Glad your enjoying RR. ☺

Can you change camera view out of first person to third so you can actually see the car ?
Some of the games you can, I forget which ones exactly though. But I know that aspect of these games is arcade accurate with switching the view.

That's cool they included the Ace Driver games, awesome formula racing games. The Ace games aren't well emulated in MAME as of yet either, they look like they play flawlessly on your Arcade1up. I've never bought one, but I'm considering it now, either the Ridge Racer one like you got, or the OutRun cab.
The two Ace Driver games are excellent additions to this cab! I’m a huge fan of Ace Driver especially (the first one). I highly recommend picking this cab up, it’s great 👍

I've been wanting to buy Arcade 1ups for some time, but previously didnt have the space for the cabs. I just cleared out like 1,500 feet of space this past month, so I have room for these now, just being able to afford them is the pinch.

@@3rdFloorArcade Same here, I have a finished basement and there's a lot more space down there now for things like games. I have an ecommerce business that takes up like a third of basement, but theres still tons of room. We have an extra bedroom upstairs that isnt used for anything, but I think its too small for an arcade room.

Yes on a few games on here you can switch the view to car view.

Not sure if you mentioned this in the vid, but does forcefeedback work with both the Ace Driver games or works only with Rave Raver?
It works with Ace Driver. The force feedback on this machine is accurate with the ones that had it in the arcades. 👍
I really wanted this cab would've been perfect in my game room, but I ended up getting the Golden Tee 3D instead, that was one I've wanted badly and missed out on the first wave.

@@3rdFloorArcade that would certainly be a dream come true. I currently have Daytona on my xbox so I normally leave that on the screen for the complete arcade vibe. Its a great touch to the arcade room but it's just not the same without the wheel n pedal.

Hi jayson great content quick question how’s your gas peddles on your ridge racer are they comfortable also are they delicate why I am asking I am thinking about purchasing it thanks buddy
Thanks so much G G I really appreciate you watching. The gas peddles are ok, not great but also not bad. I definitely recommend not playing too rough on them especially if you have kids. A1UP used better springs on them compared to the Outrun driving cab which is a plus. Overall awesome cabinet, you won’t be disappointed.
@@3rdFloorArcade thanks jayson I will probably hold off too see if there’s an after market company or there next cabs improve gas peddle arcade 1 up needs to offer us plug in play replacements my t2 out of the box blue sinden gun did not work properly so they sent me out another one now I feel uncomfortable playing it if it breaks
What size are most of these CRT monitors? 19 inch?

Nice! Overall it’s an awesome cab despite the poor quality speakers.
@@3rdFloorArcade I'm debating running out and picking up a better set. Once I get the box open, I'll spec them and see what my options are. Do you think it is an amp volume problem? Or is it the actual speaker quality? Because if it's an amplification issue, I may have to do something other than just upgrading the speakers.
@@deecee4644 I think it’s just the speakers. I’ve been thinking about picking up some new speakers for this too.
@@3rdFloorArcade Come to find out, it appears to be a possible hardware defect coming off the PCB. Apparently upgraded speakers won't help with that much. However, the headphone jack's output is excellent. I'm going to plug in a set of decent speakers and mount them on the cab somewhere tastefully and run the game with the sound output from there.

Thanks Jeff! I’d love to see a pro series driving cabinet. Overall though I think the Ridge Racer is pretty good quality despite the speakers and pedals. It’s a good buy at $600. 👍
Does the steering wheel have feedback?
Yes it does. But only on some of the games. The feedback on the wheel feels good too, A1UP did a nice job there.
how has the pedals held up? lot of people say they break.
The pedals aren’t the greatest but have held up well actually on mine. They are still like-new but I’m pretty careful when it’s in use.

Yes some of the games on this cab you can change the view.

Unfortunately no. It would definitely be pretty cool if A1UP made that possible.

There’s no clutch pedal on this so it would be difficult to learn how to drive a stick shift with this. But the concept of when to change gears is something someone could pick up on here by using the gear shifter.

Is it me or the latency is huge when steering the wheel ?
Some of these arcade cabinets are nice looking. But knowing myself I would get bored of these games after a few days.
Yeah the replay value on some of these aren’t the greatest especially the beat’em up games. But the addition of the online play and leaderboards definitely helps.

This cab looks great standing next to my T2. Games are questionable... a mixed bag of crazy fun and crazy frustration, 🤪. Really hard to stay off the walls in these NAMCO style racers, they are definitely their "own thang". I've always had fun playing the original in the arcade and it's still my favorite here on this cab, both for the nostalgic factor and it's the best handling of the 5 games. The others are faster games and the faster they are, the more the flaws show in the handling designs of these games. And man do the competitor cars get CHEAP as hell when you do well, running you right into walls and other cars. Despite the imperfections in handling and collision detection mechanics, the games are still crazy fun, mostly due to the amazing shifting game. A must have for racing enthusiasts, but I don't think it's as entertaining or enjoyable as the Outrun cab. My favorites on this are the original Ridge Racer, Ace Driver and Rave Racer. The other two are enjoyable as well, just have more issues with collision detection I think. Just made top 10 on Ridge Racer last night, can't wait to see where you place on this one brother!

The idea of playing ridge racer standing up makes me sick. This cab is 399 right now and even at that price i can't imagine playing it that way. I'll stick to playing these on mame with my t248 wheel and stand
