I like these "6 Months Later" reviews. A great way to show your opinions on replay value. I wonder what the next driving game will be. Pole Position or Cruisin' would be great!
Just bought one yesterday. Bought my first 6 cabinets this month. Pretty late to the game but appreciate all of these reviews helps with making decisions. Appreciate all the information you all post.
Excellent review, Fox. With Best Buy having it on sale now for $299 (must sign in to see price), it was an immediate buy for me. Love the Ridge Race series, and the cab design really stands out 👍
Picked up this one recently. Not a big fan of Ridge/Rave Racer, but I love the Ace Driver titles. Agreed with your assessment of $500 being an easy yes if you want a driving cab. I was surprised by the high quality of the steering wheel and rumble, and have been enjoying it a lot. A perfect addition to any home arcade.
This cab isn't for me, but I'm definitely interested in the tech for when it eventually comes to the inevitable Daytona machine. Hopefully when that machine eventually comes out Arcade1up uses the online to allow races against other players.
I sold my outrun and bought ridge Racer for $350, I like it much better than the outrun. My only issue is this cab is not very comfortable to play standing up, I'm in the middle of turning mine into a sit down cab. Great Review 👍🏽
I just picked Ridge Racer for $299 w/ $90 of Kohl's cash. I was buying my daughter new boots for Christmas anyway, so basically $210 w/ free shipping!!
Appreciate this review. I often see 1up units come up for sale due to lack of use. I never played RR or Out Run a lot but I spent a lot of money on Daytona USA/Sega Rally and the Cruisin USA series. I am holding out for those.
If Daytona isn’t announced by summer 2023. I’m heading back to get RR. Already own Outrun, but limited on space right now and only room for 4 more and Daytona and House of the Dead are two, Dragons Lair will be one when it goes on sale and looking at Smash TV last. Good review never played RR in the arcade but need me some variety in the arcade and RR may scratch that itch if the other don’t come to pass soon
Hey Fox, you may already know this but a lot of people have noticed reduced audio quality out of the PCB and some have made use of the 3.5mm jack and have routed it inside to hook up stock speakers/external speakers to it for proper sound. This may fix your "buzz". Also THIS CAB, T2, and Simpsons is NOW on sale at Best Buy for $299 (you have to be signed-in to your BB account to see sale pricing).
Upgrades needed: Logitech Speakers, bmw petal covers, plexi control panel cover. At the 210$ price from kohl’s it’s worth it I think. Cabinet inbound after thanksgiving with those upgrades. Curious how it will work out
The ridge racer cab is $735 down here in Australia. What has put me off from making the purchase is the lack of variety of games like you said. Plus the force feedback only works with some games. The pedals still look flimsy to me; I had a Thrustmaster with force feedback years ago for my pc and the pedals for that were truly robust! Even robocop couldn’t break them.
Hey 19kfox thanks for the review, based on yours and PDubs review I pulled the trigger today at Best Buy with their $299 deal. My first racer. Looking forward to it.
Yep like I mentioned before. I want to get this cabinet to mod and be my main racer arcade machine. If it dropped to just $399.00 I would be on board after I take care of some other important things like getting a nicer daily driver. lol
Bought mine brand new a few months back for $350. I do enjoy it although my only complaint is that speakers are terrible. I installed a Logitech z313 sub and speaker set in mine running through the headphone jack....the bass now thumps!
Original price….had no interest. $399…I jumped on it and don’t regret it. Will say it would be great if those mystery encoder folk could add a few more games, as I completely agree, a little more variety would be appreciated. But again, at $399 I’d recommend.
I managed to pick one up a few months ago at $400, and I was really happy with it at that price. Sadly life seems to be getting in the way, so I haven't been able to spend as much time with it as I'd like to, but I've enjoyed the brief amount of time I've had with it.
@@joelpomerleau4015 You fking bandit!😁 Man, I thought I got the best deal out there! Haha! Great snag, my friend. A $400 savings is something to celebrate 🍾 Enjoy your new toy!👍
I had to get an extra 6in riser to make it comfortable to play for me. I think that is the biggest issue. You sit down to race. I got my RR cabinet to have variety and it was on the 399 free shipping sale.
While i didnt pick this 1 up it definitly seems like a quality cab. I'm interested in seeing their next racer and if they make a few improvements from this one like online play and if they can upgrade that flimsy foot pedal the next racer could be an absolute gem.
Good review! I love the look of this cab and RR was a fav of mine in the early ps1 days. I'm just not sure id actually play it now though, could be a one and done kinda deal. Which probably isnt good economics. So tempting though.
Great video. I enjoy this cab. I picked it up for 499 and it was worth it. I added pedal covers and added the riser from buy stuff arcade which made it a perfect height for being 6 ft.
Yeah it needed to drop a Ridge Racer. Ace Driver games are by far my favorite. My issue is the absolute crap audio. I usually plug my pa speaker into the head jack. Also I'm a sit down guy. Standing doesn't last long then I'm on a stool.
Instead of buying this cab I spent the money on a killer sim rig …much better bang for the Buck and a MUCH better experience. And still looks great in the arcade🤘🏼
I own one of the ridge racer cabinets and I have to say I find it fun but again like you I have to be in the mood to play ridge racer. It's not for everyone but it is a very unique orientation for arcade1up to take in a driving cabinet. I could not agree more that they do need to find a way to give better pedals.
It's a great cab except RR is a two pedal race game. What I mean is to do well in the race you have to use both pedals at the same time, one foot hovering over the brake and so on. That is really hard to do with a stand up cab... it really sucks the fun out of this. Crusin USA would be perfect since that is a one pedal race game... you don't really need the brake. Hopefully Arcade1up brings out Crusin since that lends itself to a stand up cab so well.
I really would like to get this cabinet. I do have outrun and with limited space like everyone, if I bought ridge racer I would probably be done with the driving cabinets. And I really am hoping for Daytona or cruisin USA one day haha. And I would rather have either of those 2 than ridge racer. So if I'm only going to own 2 driving cabinets I might pass on this one. Unless I sold outrun for this one.
I've had my for a while. I've had fun with all 5 games and it's gotten a decent amount of time, but I feel like a jackass for paying the original price and not waiting for a drop. I guess I was scared this cab would be very limited since Ridge Racer isn't that popular....now my local Best Buy has 3 of them in stock :P
I purchased it for 399 with terminator and it's gets alot of play from my son his friends and my wife and has held up. The kids are rough on it which upset me one day lol but it really has held up. I'm actually surprised how much everyone likes it.
I got the same two cabs for $400. Love them both. Ridge Racer is hard as hell. I have to admit I set all the games to easy and I’m still bad at it, but it’s fun
No buzz on mine but my blitz has had a high pitch sound come from inside the cab… After it being left on for a little bit. Not at first and it does go away or dims some… RR has done its job for me. Still need to do coin door mod eventually
I like this type of video Fox, good stuff. Did you see the pedal cover mod Unqualified Critics posted? Did it to my Outrun and the gas/brake look 100x better.
I like your 6 month reviews keep up the good work. I bought Ridge Racer over Outrun just because I believed Arcade1up would do a better job the second time around. I waited for it to go on sale and got it at $399 I was not disappointed at this price point. I love everything they did with this cab except the marquee also. I might have been a little hard on you about your list but it's your list and you are definitely entitled to it.
I have that cab the games are really hard well of course all arcade games back then was tbh but great cab tho from my experience and it doesn’t get that much play either
Im more outrun dude, but seems you cant get them anywhere, was thinking if i buy the racing box update to this machine,is the playing feeling the same then with both machines?anyone?
I have had mine for a couple months and already it does not get a lot of gameplay. I think there are two reasons: 1) The tracks get old and boring. 2) At 6' tall, my posture is horrible as I find myself "scrunching" my body.
I seen this video I had the volume buzzing sound as well I ordered a ground loop isolator plugged into usb audio jack on the pcb then plug in the speakers or sound upgrade that you done with the computer speakers and the humming noise goes away I ordered the isolator on amazon no more humming
Trouble with nearly ANY 'Ridge Racer' copy is that the BEST part of the arcade game was getting to play the complete sit down version that included a gated shifter AND a CLUTCH pedal! Without the 'cutting edge' hardware the racing itself is just average...
All unique games for sure but I would go with Ridge Racer. My understanding is the production numbers is lower than T2, so you must likely will see T2 at these prices in the future.
