    This is probably a much better solution than the Land Rover one! Making a new spare wheel centre cap that duplicates as the quick release would be the icing on the cake for this wonderful solution. Brilliant idea!!

    • @rl9810
      @rl9810 Год назад +3

      It really needs an extension that places the quick release further out, so that is protrudes from the center cap position.

      should be quite easy to achieve, with some 1/4 BSP threaded pipe cut to the relivent length, would extend the quick release through the wheel centre.

    Nice design, with regards to the quick release I would recommend adding a standoff pipe to move the quick release to be the same depth as the wheel sits.

    Might be a less pretty solution, but you could jimmy up an center cap adapter that's actually a female connection point to the ARB, that way you don't have to fish it through (put the coupler on the center cap, feed in like 5-6 inches of additional hose so when you have to take the wheel off you can have some slack to the compressor). I think that'd be a pretty slick connection point on the actual wheel.

    Far better than the Land Rover option. Perhaps a spacer between the hose connector and the compressor, bringing the connector further out?

    I guess the voltage would be to high to just plug it into the domestic socket below the fuse box for those of as that have them. This could possibly remove the need for a switch? Brilliant idea, well done!

    I may have missed it somhow, but did you also show how the electrical supply connection is made? Maybe in another video? .... I'm assuming you poke the cables through the grommit / remove variious covers and tap into the rear compartment 'fuse box', but over here in Australia we dont have good access to technical info (i.e. schematics etc) from JLR... and so while I'm mechanically and electrically savvy, at the moment I am not too keen on performing 'exploratory surgery' on my new toy 🙂.

      Great video - Maybe add some sort of ‘soft’ washer (nylon?) between the stainless steel bracket and the car? I’d be a bit worried about bolting the bracket directly to the vehicle body w/o protecting the paint etc, it could create a potential corrosion / rust issue downstream if this isn’t done.

    Will this be the straw that breaks the rear door’s back? I had an early classic Discovery three door and its door hinges would droop if I so much as looked at it less than kindly.
    Excellent location and kit if it works. Would like to see it wired up of course and maybe you could sell the bracket with a wiring kit included as standard

    In real life you’re exposing the compressor to dust and mud which is not good at all. In addition, the access point is beyond horrible. When we travel, we sometimes air down and up several times a day! I would be super discouraged to use this system, not practical at all!

    Great idea, just two things first one are the screws that connect the compressor to the plate are they going into nylock nuts as the vibration may make them come loose. Second one where the outlet is on the compressor is it not possible to make up and extension piece to bring the quick release connector nearly flush with the spare wheel. I.e. a piece of stainless steel pipe about 6inch or so with the same thread to connect to the compressor then fix the quick release to the other end. Just a thought..

    • @johncanalese588
      @johncanalese588 Год назад

      I have seen many a video where people have installed these units (and the single compressor version), into engine bays. I believe that this will lead to premature failure due to the heat. Stories of motor bearing failure etc are being told. These units run hot when operating and have a fan installed to try and keep the heat at bay. But if the fan is moving hot air, or very little air due to it's installation location, then it's going to fail.

      @@Discoveryjamie I am pretty sure the installation has a lot to do with it. These units generate a lot of heat and there's even a cooling fan that runs continually when power is applied. A lot of guys here is Oz fit them in engine bays and under the false floor of their Land Cruisers and Patrols. The engine bay is continual heat and hot air and under the floor there will be limited airflow. I think this is a primary cause of premature failure. I have installed the dual compressor unit in my Y62 Patrol - it operates the load-assist airbags on the rear suspension and provides an outlet for air-up of the tyres.
