I think these would make the worlds most expensive and the worlds nicest defender dog poop bag holder (to keep dog poop out of the inside of the car).
It would be cool to see at very least the side or main body in gloss black to match.
When you first started modding stig i actually was looking online to see if anyone had a marine grade door that could be mounted to the original gloss black corners (with some dremel work) to rig up something like this to store dog poop while on the way back to a trashcan :)

Its a nice bit of kit and I can think of a few things that could go in there, especially something you'd want to grab without waking the car up. Shame about the dollars.
Of course if you had the Box in carbon fibre you'd need the light surrounded to match.
I think a plainer finish would be nice for those of us that wanted to keep it more understated.
I wonder if you could remanufacture under license and then add your other touches such as the blind rib-nuts and blanking patches.

I think the problem with the screw being short is your rib nut caps that you used instead of the rivets. They are acting a bit like a spacer and stick out a bit more from the sheet metal, thus acting like a washer between two points you are trying to bring together. Where the rivets pull it in tighter with less of that washer affect between the two surfaces. Which in the end could throw off you window seam between the unit and the window glass a bit because its now got this rib nut acting like a washer and everything is in a sense not in as far as it should be What say you! I would use the pop rivets, if the holes in them bug a person, put a bit of bondo in the holes and use a black paint pen to paint them. Or some paintable caulk in the holes and paint them black.

I like the idea, but what a backward construction. This would be much less noisy on the road if the clip was gone and instead the hinge was towartds the side of the car. A simple push to open for the lock and the keylock mounted from behind would do the trick. Less parts, more smooth design and a lot easyer to access from behind of the car. (Strange to open the door towards the midle of the car where the backdoor is. (??)
