For me, this was maybe the last great generation for Xbox and PS. I played my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games on my fat PS3 for years until it failed. The games are awesome. Playing Metal Gear Solid 4 is still a huge gaming highlight for me. But, like you mentioned PK, the hardware issues are a blackeye.
Absolutely! I hope somewhere down the line we see PS3 and Xbox 360 clone consoles. Emulators are great but I would like to see a way we could play the original discs.
I loved the 7th Gen Consoles and have always had both an Xbox 360 and PS3 to this day. I really loved HD DVDs on the 360 but nearly half my discs are now failing due to disc rot, so Blu-ray quite rightly won through. It's hard to beat the experience of the Halo 3 launch and the off the charts hype but I think PS3 had the killer app that was PS Home. I have two PS3s and three Xbox 360s but to be honest, if you've got an Xbox One then most of your digital purchases will be backwards compatible and playable on the newer consoles anyway. Xbox as a brand won me over with their commitment to backwards compatability but Sony are a more innovative company when it comes to platform exclusives. I don't think you could fit a cigarette paper between the Xbox 360 and PS3 so I'll call it a win for both :-) Keep up the awesome work PK!

Rare by the way, made sea of thieves and are making Everwild. So after some early 360 stuff and Kinect stuff, they are finally doing something with them.
The 360 was definitely the gaming console for the most part with games like bioshock, mass effect ,gears also dead space and the Arkham games. The PS3 was mostly for God of War games , Blu-Rays and the early days of Netflix. These days though I’m discovering more ps3 games I didn’t play or know about from the 7th gen days. Over all they’re both great systems.
All of the games you listed were on PS3 also except for Gears. Xbox had great early exclusives like Halo and Gears, but PS3 had a stampede of quality IPs well beyond the 360 (especially after 2010). Little Big Planet 1-2-3, Resistance 1-2-3, Killzone 2-3, Uncharted 1-2-3, Infamous 1-2, Demon's Souls, Twisted Metal, Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain, 4 Motorstorm games, PS All-Stars Battle Royale, and several others.

I have 3 ps3’s and 4 Xbox 360s. I’ve been going heavy on collecting for the 360. I feel like it plays games better imo. The only time I get a ps3 game is if it’s cheaper. Prices are crazy these days haha
They're both good. I own both currently, a PS3 with CFW and a 360 with RGH and a 1TB hard drive for each. But I'll say this: backwards compatibility is much better on the PS3 so I keep an original Xbox around for the 6th gen multiplats and Xbox exclusives and let the PS3 handle the PS2 exclusives. It's what I personally recommend others as well if they're interested.
I have both but i like my launch ps3 (the cecha01) better because the backwards compatibility is perfect,while the xbox 360 backwards compatibility ranges from horrible to kinda decent. Thats one of my main points of interest
Yeah, the Xbox 360 is all over the place. I put in red dead revolver for the original Xbox into my 360 the other day, I don’t remember it being that rough.
Overall, I liked the 360 more, but they really started screwing up towards the latter half of the generation, so I switched over to PS3 at that point. the last Xbox 360 game I bought at launch was either syndicate or the Witcher 2, I forgot which one came out first. I still bought PS3 games up until the PS4.
I think PS3 outselling Xbox 360 mainly boils down to Japan. Though the 360 was more popular there than the other Xbox systems, the PS3 out sold it quite handily still.
A while back I got a physical copy of axiom verge on WiiU . It’s one of the rarest games on Wii U . When it was available for pre order it sold out instantly.
I lived through this gen in my teens. 360 won hands down. Sure PS3 sold more consoles at the end but still had trash online that still gets hacked to this day.

The 360 was definitely my go to platform for my 3rd party games Which usually performed and played better on that platform. As well as it's Exclusives and PC To Xbox 360 exclusives. Both amazing systems but my favourite was/ is definitely the Xbox 360.
It turns out that the 360's Original Xbox emulator can technically run pretty much the whole library, but Microsoft arbitrarily placed blocks on a substantial number of titles. Some of these made sense because they ran terribly, others, worked okay but were still blocked. So if you don't mind jailbreaking the system there is that factor. I think the PS3 ultimately ended up being the better platform and is more future proof than the Xbox 360, but both systems have their strong points. To touch on emulation again, yeah, I know the high seas sailors love it, and I concede that it can be a useful preservation tool, but it does bother me that there is not any real option for clone hardware on the horizon. I think focusing on software emulation only is a mistake, and there is value in preserving the logic and operation of the hardware, i.e. kind of what you get with the Analogue SG cloning the Sega Genesis. The PS3 cell processor in particular is fascinating and I'd like to see it preserved as much as the games it runs.
That makes a ton of sense about OG Xbox, I remember trying to play the original red, dead revolver on it, and wow, did this look washed out compared to what I was used to seeing. I’m definitely partial to the PS3 myself . I would love to see some clone consoles of these in the future that could play most of the games at least. We definitely shouldn’t rely on PC emulation alone.
There is a 360 emulator. I started looking into a couple of days ago and god a game running with some graphical issues. You are supposed to be able to tweak some settings and dial it in but I was quickly just messing around with it.
For me xbox360 won as I never bought a PS3 ha! As a loyal Sega fan there was always hate towards Sony but I still managed to buy PS1, PS2 & PS4 lol. I just skipped PS3, I think the difference between 360 & PS3 was so close in later years that all that set them apart was the controller - which one you preferred would be the console you owned lol. As consoles they offered much the same for the majority of games...
Yeah, I was definitely a PS3 controller guy. I avoided getting Sony products for so long. I had a GameCube and OG Xbox before I had a PS2. After I got a PS2 I was hooked because I liked the exclusives and the controller layout.
idk but ps3 games are still hella cheap i just bought a 10 pack from a guy $3 a game..told him im game for more in the future...all non sports titles..IDK what its so cheap compared to 360
Yeah, it’s really hit or miss depending on the game . I feel like all the games are still pretty cheap in general. I feel like a lot of RUclipsrs are trying to bring more attention to the hidden gems . You know how that goes.

I famously skipped this console generation so I have neither an Xbox 360 or a PS3. If I were to choose one today I would pick the PS3.

I also think it helps that the PS3 got cheaper. $600 launch price was insane back then.
It turned around worldwide after RROD and AAA titles dried up. After Halo Reach, I don't remember a single exclusive on 360 I couldn't live without.
