the alpha is a nice unit. Great prebuilt gaming PC. small with power sure I could build one that is much better but the Alpha rocks. waiting to try the steam controller
7 years later... I upgraded the used I3 4gb model I got used for 100 bucks with... an i7, 16g ram, 800gb ssd for under 100 bucks... meanwhile my friend built a ryzen 7 5700g apu setup for around 600$ ... my gtx 860 mobile gets better FPS on literally every game. I play fallout 76, elder scrolls online, rdr2, starcraft, csgo and the Witcher 3 all with no problems.
More free to play games and content that any other console as a PC ..nice ..you do realize that Xbox and Ps4 both stream media from other devices that being said but can't be used as workstations...edit documents and files run other programs ..now that is a better point to make..great overall presentation bud thanks for the demo it's way better than most anything out there enjoy

Games it can play better looking than the Order.. GTA V, Black Ops 3, Tomb Raider, GTA 4, Gears of War, Call Of Duty Advanced Wafare, Skyrim The list goes on..
if i remember right you could hook up the alienware graphics box for better graphics and you ca customize the graphics box so if you want better graphics there is an option
They all have major hardware issues. Search the web. I bought an i7 for $800 and it stopped working in the first month. Yellow flashing light of death and then stuck on boot logo. Common problem search yourself. Don't waste your money I'm super bummed.

Hell even open the dreaded Internet Explorer and brows the Web. the alienware hive function acts almost like a dual boot option. you can run any game off the system through it using the supplied controller in a series of controller friendly menus (esseclntialy the point of hive mode because this is intended as a console replacement) however you can do anything you can with a normal desktop computer by using a keyboard and mouse to controle your inputs. the alienware alpha is a PC that runs a console style UI if you so choose and can run steam in bog picture mode to allow keyboard free navigation. the steam box (which is the same but different in a way) only uses the steam OS, and as far as I know does not have windows on it and thus can't be used as a regular pc out of the box. so in closing, anything you can do on a regular PC, I mean anything at all, you can do on the alpha.
Now, how high of graphics can you run on this little monster and how many games will it be able to take in? Say I wanted to download skyrim, saints row, tf2, the witcher and so on. How much can this little monster take?

The steam box doesn't have a windows os integrated and cant use it as a normal computer.. And no it cant run ARK survival as it is only optimized for gtx970 and above
+Not bob Spec wise they are identical, however the Alpha comes with Windows pre-installed, while the Steambox has SteamOS (Debian Linux based) installed. Also the Steambox has a steam logo in the bottom corner. (You can do a clean Windows install on the Steambox, but do so at your own risk and no customer service support for that)

I paid 800 canadian. so roughly 630 US. there are cheaper versions. as little as 399 even. however they all have the exact same graphics card built in. only difference is the cpu and the amount of ram, both of which can be upgraded by you at your own convince. that's the cool thing about the alpha, you can put better parts into it

Alienware does have a steambox that runs off SteamOS if you are looking for that. It also comes with steam controller. Therefore, it is not crap. Just picked mine up recently. :)
but personally i would get a syber steam machine since it's fully customizable on their website and can be upgraded it's bigger than the alienware but still alot smaller then most towers. i think it will have a longer lifespan then the current alienware. although more expensive.

A gtx860m is as good as a gtx960 thats good for value including windows os license and a dual boot which costs more and a lg1150 socket cpu which means its upgradeable with even an intel i7-4790k

It will work just fine with any hdmi monitor. as far as a "let's play" style youtuber it should work just fine :)

My friends, it's not worth buying this. Get an xbox one or ps4, they're cheaper. Or get a desktop pc if you really want something hi end and fully customisable. I'd rather be stuck with an xbox than be stuck with an expensive box. That is why I do regular PCs.
Its not expensive....if 400-1000$ is expensive to you get a job

A gtx860m is as good as a gtx960 thats good for value including windows os license and a dual boot which costs more and a lg1150 socket cpu which means its upgradeable with even an intel i7-4790k
+Mikhail Armanuel I totally understand your point, but those Alienware pc are overpriced, an hp of similar specs is usually cheaper. I have a gaming pc and I have an Xbox too for my multimedia setup.
