@@82melcoopdeville i've still got mine from 2015 and i'm just now upgrading it because the hard drive has slowed to a horrible crawl. seriously takes like 5-10 minutes from pressing the power button to getting steam big picture up on the screen.

I bought the most expensive model when this thing first came out. the one that cost almost 1000$ (i7). I think that's pretty bullshit they didn't give me 16gb of ram and a SSD for that price. but that aside for my first pc I couldn't be happier. people say you can build a pc for way cheaper. ok good for them but I don't know shit about building pc's + this thing is so fuckin small its awesome!. what's it been like 2 years since it came out? I haven't had a single problem with it and I leave this thing on 24/7. if you are looking for a pc that does not hog space and can handle high graphic settings then give this thing a shot.

I've had the i3 for 2 years now. Never had a single issue with it, these pc's are awesome. I don't care about building my own pc either. I just want to play some games on a decent settings which is what I can do now. I think for the price at the time it was on sale for 400 i got the 8gig version. I should probably upgrade it soon though.

i had my i3 alpha for 2 years as well , no problems and i could run lots of games in decent settings , very well worth to upgrade the ram to max out at 16gb , thinking about upgrading my CPU in about a month

    Good, newbie-friendly video.
It's also grammatically redundant to say "SSD drive" :D.
I personally would've gone with a smaller SSD for the sake of saving money, and using the stock 2TB hard drive externally for game storage.

    QnA
Q: Can this RAM or SSD or CPU upgrade work on i3 model
    A: Yes
Q: if I upgrade the RAM, will I have to backup?
    A: No you don't
Q: HELP my system is blinking with yellow lights!!!
A: Did you change the CPU? If so it may need more power than provided.
Q: Will changing the SSD help run
A: Not really, maybe a slight 1fps difference in texture heavy games, not really a big deal. This is best for video editing.
Q: I just bought the Alpha, do I need to backup?
    A: No you dont.
Q: Can I Change the video card?
    A: No it's soldered on.

Two questions. One: is that SSD necessarily an "upgrade" due to the lower amount of storage it provides? Two: On the box that the ram came in, it showed the logos of the i5 and the i7, but not the i3. Does that mean it won't work on the i3?

+Political Loopholes It's a computer... u put ram in and it will work, u put a HD in and it will work reguardless of the processor. And yes, it is an upgrade. Some lag in games come from live rendering of textures and other things in games, SSD's can reference and load files and other things faster than a HDD. So not only does boot up time increase, pretty much everything increases in speed. As for it being less space, i've never filled up 500gb so it wouldn't effect me none other than it being faster. I guess some people hoard games and actually need 1tb-2tb of space.

    • @beardalaxy
      @beardalaxy 3 года назад +1

for anyone else reading this, all you have to do is sign in with a microsoft account and when you install windows 10 on the new ssd, it will carry over your install. it won't keep any of your files or anything, you'll probably have to get a USB drive or put it in cloud storage for that, but nowadays your microsoft account is tied to your copy of windows 10 so you don't have to purchase it again.

Hi, really enjoyed your video. I'm planning on getting the i7 model. If I wanted to upgrade the RAM only would I still need to do the re-boot etc or is that only when upgrading the cpu/hdd? Thanks.

+Ew you should be able to just swap out the RAM no other steps needed.

Can I do the same as a repair job if I don’t have the respawn? I’m getting 4 yellow flashes for memory/ram failure. This would be a quick repair

I upgraded my Alpha with the same exact parts (PNY thumb drive, Corsair Vengeance 16GB kit), except for the SSD. Instead I picked up a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB. So now my specs are Intel Core i7, 500GB SSD, 16GB or RAM, and I overclock using MSI Afterburner. Everything flies. The biggest upgrade is the SSD, hands down.

Hi, is it possible for you to give me a list of what you used to upgrade your alpha and where you purchased all the parts from? Also what did you use to back up everything? I'm new to pc's and I would really appreciate you feedback. I could use the help.
      - thanks in advanced

My parts are listed. I bought the RAM, Thumb drive to backup, and the SATA to USB cable to clone the old drive all at Best Buy. The SSD I bought from eBay. Now there's great deals on SSDs on SlickDeals.com every day. It's very simple to upgrade.

Jordan Hayes When it comes to RAM, I recommend Corsair vengeance or G Skill RAM, as they're low latency. For SSDs, Crucial or Samsung are fine. Shop around, as PC parts go up and down in price daily.

***** I actually bought mine with the Core i7 4765T configuration. With that said, any Haswell i7 will work. Most people stick with Amazon and NewEgg.

can you use a fresh windows install usb instead of the respawn usb backup? Just incase someone does not want to use any alienware peripherals or softwares and rather just use plain fresh windows 10. Thank you

I know this video is now quite dated, but I was wondering the specifics regarding RAM selection. Is the alpha not compatible with ddr4 RAM, or is it possible to get DDR4L 1600MHz ram as an upgrade for this machine? Seems a better improvement and waste not to go with the faster more recent generation double data rate components. Could someone explain why it would be restricted?

i know i'm late to this comment but if laptop ram is anything like computer ram it physically will not fit in the slot, let alone be compatible with the motherboard. it needs to be ddr3l.
